DH applied to today. (he used to do warehouse work when ExW made him give up cooking) for a temp xmas job. Wish we lived near toys R us (staff discount!) One place DH was sent by the JC (a training centre I think, to discuss lecturing) told him not to put his DOB on his CV so they didn't not interview him because of his age (40+)

IamRiallyindisguise · 26/09/2008 22:48

some of the JC staff are lovely, pleased someone actually WANTS to get a job, but he saw one twat advisor the other week who said he wasn't applying for enough (only every sodding job that comes up, beyond the spec set by his "disability" advisor) and now emails him updates (usually after DH has already applied). I am on a mission to fill his search log in so much it takes said tosser all day to type it into his computer

Bumperlicious · 26/09/2008 22:50

A consideration for DH here too Ria (43).

Anyway, sorry to dump and run but I really must get to bed. DD was up a few times last night. At least DH and I have weekends together now

LackaDAISYcal · 26/09/2008 22:52

he will have your tea ready for you every night and will have done the housework too bumper

IamRiallyindisguise · 26/09/2008 22:56

yeah right daisy

I'm off too. Have a great weekend (esp you bumper and daisys DS) fingers crossed for a good night here cos I won't fit in the cot!

Bumperlicious · 27/09/2008 10:01

Morning all. What a shitty day compared to yesterday!

Bumperlicious · 27/09/2008 10:03

Weatherwise I mean

Ohforfoxsake · 27/09/2008 15:54

bloody lovely here - but thick, thick fog this morning.

Bumper, don't forget to contact the Council about Council Tax and Housing Benefit. You just never know. I think there's lots out there which goes unclaimed because its not widely advertised. Has he considered going to the Press? They might settle out of court. I think it would make a good story, male employee of large high street chain suffers constructive dismissal and sex discrimination for wanting to look after his child.

I feel sorry for JC employees. They can't help anyone, because they have no discretion. They just have to reiterate the rules time and time again to angry, demoralised people. Its one of those places noone wants to be.

And he can sign on and declare any temporary work.

If you have any insurance check what is covered. Sometimes there are extras for legal fees and the like. Any unemployment cover hidden away there?

Bumperlicious · 27/09/2008 17:36

Thanks for the reply foxy, turned in a beautiful day here in the end.

No insurance for anything here unfortunately. Dh has an appointment with the job centre next week I think so they will be able to advise him then on any benefits we can get. No change in the Tax credits unfortunately. We are on a super duper budget as of now, and we are ok for 2 months, DH should get paid the end of this month and like I said before, it's bonus month for me next month which will mean I can cover the basics.

DH's union guy has contacts with the press, so they may get involved. I have to be careful with my work though. Any press contact has to be run through them. We'll get through this, I really believe our time will come. Plus I have 2 unchecked lottery tickets, so I am probably sitting on a winner in which case we will still take the bastards to court but give all the money to charity!

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 27/09/2008 17:50

We're home! Haven't even looked at the thread yet, just logged onto the 'puter and wanted to make my mark!

Lovely week, despite 3 days with no hot water () and lots of teething problems with the jamlet meaning we got very broken nights ( again).

Back later once we've unwound and caught up with stuff

LackaDAISYcal · 27/09/2008 18:29

bumper, it's a bit crap that your bonus will have to be used on living expenses . Fingers crossed for the lottery tickets

Hey Jammy, hope that you got some RandR inspite of teething issues and no water.....washing on holiday is optional anyway

We have had a lovely day in the gorgeous Autumn sunshine. I took DS swimming (and we had more of a chat about "the incident", he said that the boy threatened him , but I think I need to take that with a pinch of salt), then after a quick lunch we took his bike to the park and had a walk round and found some ducks (including some moorhen chicks that were just sooooooo cute) and had a lovely family time. DH is worried about me as I was relaxed and chilled and happy and it was him getting all stressed and wound up for a change . Also I bought him a card and present to say thanks for being there and sorry for taking him for granted over the last few months (he has done more than his fair share of housewrok etc). I just felt all happy and loved up today and DS and I got along like a house on fire.

The boys have now gone off fishing for a couple of hours, and I am chilling with a grumpy and tired baby who refused to eat her tea.

She finally pooed this morning; the first time since Wednesday teatime. Thankfully it was whilst DH was in charge

Hope everyone had a good day

OK I?ve tried to catch up but it was pretty much a skim read apart from a few things that caught my eye. We?re tired after a busy week and lots of travelling today. But it was good. We took Jamlet to the beach, the zoo, the aquarium and to see the horses at the national stud farm place. She liked the beach, got excited at the colourful tropical fish and liked the penguins, like the otters and racoon things at the zoo, and liked the horses but was a bit scared too especially when they breathed hard on her.

I agree with Fairy about autumn holidays. I?ve waited patiently while all my friends and work colleagues have been away and come back, and now as they?re getting fed up and feeling that the stretch between holiday and Xmas is never ending, I come back all refreshed (while kind of) and it doesn?t seem that far to the next main holiday J

People talking about swimming. Jamlet loves swimming and also isn?t bothered about being dicked under. We has looked forward to swimming each day on holiday so were rather that the pool at our cottage wasn?t in use, despite the fact that when I?d asked if it would be (the advert said summer months only, so thought I?d check) they?d said yes. But apparently the filter broke early in the summer and they?ve just taken it out of use. EXCEPT THEY DIDN?T PUT UP ANY SIGNS TO SAY SO so I could have taken jamlet in without realising how filthy it actually was if it wasn?t that we happened to have to speak to the property manager to complain about the lack of hot water for THREE DAYS . Other than that it was a great holiday though!

We did have plenty of broken nights though - a combination of strange surroundings and teething I think. She sprouted 2 new teeth while we were there and I think another is not far behind. So DH and I are shattered now and really hoping she manages better in her own familiar cot tonight.

I see hugs are due to Foxy - sorry I can?t offer any real advice, I?m no expert in such things, but do let me know if you need anything, and bad luck with the driving test Holly. And Bumper sorry things are so shit for you. Do get in touch if you want a moan or need anything.

As for bags, I?ve been using a beach bag I got free with a magazine just after jamlet was born as a changing bag. But on holiday we used my old rucksack until it broke. Bt by then I was converted to a rucksack as a changing bag so now I use a stylish French rucksack

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 27/09/2008 20:00

Daisy, your day out sounds lovely.

Sputnik · 27/09/2008 21:25

Welcome back Jammy

Pain about the hot water though. We once got 3 nights free hotel in Greece as there was never any hot water (think the next room was using it all), so we got fed up and moved to some cheaper rooms down the road, and the hotel very sourly told us "We wouldn't want to charge dissatisfied customers".

Just been to DD's schoolmate's party, the parents very bravely had it at their house, though they did have a huge outside terrace so thankfully their house didn't get trashed as it was al outside. It was utter chaos, and Baby Sputnik just waded in and had the time of his life, I think we will have no problems settling him at nursery in a couple of weeks, he was so interested in the new toys he forgot about us completely!

Ohforfoxsake · 27/09/2008 21:46

Welcome back Jammy, glad (all things considered) you had a nice time.

Your day sounds like just what you all needed Daisy

LOL at your little boy Sputnik, party animal

Laptop being a farking PITA. I think I'm going to have to cancel my boots for the cause

IamRiallyindisguise · 27/09/2008 21:48

Hi there. about your holiday jammy, but glad you got to do all those things that didn't involve water.

Baggins only woke every 2 hours last night (til 5.30 when DH took him in our bed - having snored through the other wakings - and I went in with DS2)

ISWYM about JC employees foxy, but some of them (the one DH got landed with the time before last) do have power issues(the rest of the others have been lovely, and his DEA people are really really nice, he actually likes going to see them!) DH has got absolutely clobbered on the last wedding he did though, so if DH is going to do any temp work while signing on get him to double check what he can do without being affected bumper (DH was assured it wouldn't affect our benefit entitlement as it was less than a certain amount of hours, but it seems not. Hoping he can sort it out on Monday, or he gets a job before then. Or we will be on veg broth for a few days)

At least DS is talking daisy. Maybe tell him you're going to draw a firm line under under the incident and forget it as you are happy to believe it wasn't down to him, but tell him his side of the bargain is to promise to go straight to an adult at school or you if anything happens again? Bless your DH, they are funny beings aren't they?

LackaDAISYcal · 27/09/2008 21:52

did you see that Paul Newman died today ?

83 years old and married to Joanne Woodward for 50 years. Very impressive by hollywood standards!

OP posts:
IamRiallyindisguise · 27/09/2008 22:01

Is that the one out of the pool film? blue eyes? 50 years is a bloody long time for anyone!

I am feeling a bit melancholy myself, M&D been away and they got back today find out that my Great Aunt died on Thursday. Not local (recently) and not close, but she was the last of that generation of my family. No one from here is going to the funeral as it's too far but apparently her daighter is bringing her ashes here to buried with her husband and we will have a service then.

It is a day for it too as when I went to Dsis's earlier her FILs ashes were on a shelf in the front room. Her DH asked if I'd said hello to his dad. I was a bit as that's the last thing I would have thought of discussing. Am just glad DS1 didn't ask...

LackaDAISYcal · 27/09/2008 22:12

I have just realised I made a mistake with the school hols and it's a week later than I thought. Which means that PILs get back on 1st November......and my EDD is the 6th. They know that we don't have anyone else that can take the DCs overnight; is it too much to ask that they consider us once in a while rather than BIL and his brood. They can only go on holiday in the school hols as SIL is a teacher and they look after their kids so that she can go back to work and not have to pay for childcare...while we used to shell out £800 for DS when I was working.

Trying not to worry about the fact that it might just be me and my doula at the hospital as DH has had to stay home with the DCs.

OP posts:
IamRiallyindisguise · 27/09/2008 22:18

oh dear daisy. that's a bugger. I can't remember - wa DS early or was he CS too? My MW with baggins did say that by the third they know when they can come and they wait until a good time (or something similar) My contractions started after DS1&2 had gone to bed, my show was while they were still asleep and things only got going after I'd got them to school

IamRiallyindisguise · 27/09/2008 22:21

of course that may all be bollocks said to make me feel good - foxy?

Sputnik · 27/09/2008 22:30

Yes, remember Foxy held on til the summer holidays . My gynae also said something similar about second and subsequent labours.

LackaDAISYcal · 27/09/2008 22:32

I was induced with DS at 10 days over....but not an issue back then as DH and I weren't together. He was there for the birth, but my DSis was my main birth supporter.

Mind you, the way my BHs are going, I might not last that long anyway.

I told DH to tell his brother that as they are the main reason PILs won't be around then they should take the kids. After all, SIL will be on school hols . He won't though.

LackaDAISYcal · 27/09/2008 22:34

So I could still be here at Christmas? ......yikes

OP posts:
IamRiallyindisguise · 27/09/2008 22:35

you would think they would be happy to help... are they nearby? what about someone who could come to yours overnight if need be? I would come if it wasn't so far/could drive to Leeds on my own without causing a major incident!
