deb good luck with the jabs.

am mning, because rain has started here and need to go and pick up a parcel

does anyone elses lo pull v funny faces when they get rained on, ie going to the car. Isaac screws his face all up and gives me a look that screams bad mummy!

debinaustria · 11/09/2008 09:57

back now, even though it's for the best - don't you feel such a bad Mummy having a needle poked in them. I know it's nothing compared to what you have to do Josey - don't know how you do it .

Also had E weighed - 6.6kg which is about 14.5lbs, he was 12 weeks on Tuesday so still a big boy! and measuring 67 cms.

Upsidedowncake · 11/09/2008 09:59

Josey, you and Oli are amazing, and I love the way she keeps on showing them and you what she can do. Also rock on DD. who just turned 3, with her polite leaving the table comments! Could you think of the hospice as respite care for you guys?

Debs, good luck with jabs and I can't wait till you're on TV! A work colleague was on a similar programme and it was fascinating watching it! Let us know how it goes.

Alipalli, sorry that you've been having a hard time with Peter and I hope he recovers soon.

A question, are you all keeping your LOs in Moses baskets or have you graduated to a cot? Dorothy weighs around 12 pounds, but the four of us are off to France in our car (a Golf) next Friday. Either we take the Moses basket with us, or she sleeps in the cot that's there. Am thinking of getting her used to the wide-open spaces of a cot here, so that she'll adjust there. What would you do?

Also, what size teats are people using? Dorothy has been having a bottle of EBM and 10.30, which she takes very reluctantly. Lately, I've been BFing her and I don't know if she doesn't like the bottle because:

  1. she's tired
  2. she's not very hungry
  3. the teat's too slow
  4. she just doesn't like bottles

We gave her 1 oz of water at 2 am this morning though, which she seemed to take OK.

poppy34 · 11/09/2008 10:03

josey..I saw that story too..just too awful ... re smiling - think you're right.. there are days when don't get many at all from edie if she is tired, ill etc so stands to reason olivia wouldnt smile if suffering from reflex.

can see how the hospice thing is a horrible dilemma as I guess

deb -how exciting,, you've got to tell us when it goes out so we can all watch...and good luck with the jabs. Is this teh first or second lot for E?

hedgehoggood on your dh..... and you're lucky you only get a look.. edie wails in a way that implies if she could call childline she would if she gets rained on

alipallisorry to hear the jabs set him off and hope you had better night and feeling bit more upbeat (screaming in shops always a real mood enhancer I find)

amber hope you had a better night

Re that programme, I found that it really changed my views about cross-feeding. The Colombian 'sexual' woman was clearly bonkers and probably lying about starting lactation.

But I admit (don't shout at me) that I have felt the urge (but haven't acted on it) to feed someone else's baby to comfort him! I still wouldn't act on it as it's it's such a cultural no-no. It certainly made me think.

poppy34 · 11/09/2008 10:04

sorry joseymeant to say re hospice is that to use it is admitting something that may not be true re life expectancy even if it does have great facilities -have you been to look at it and what does your aunt reckon re benefits of facilities there (you said she has SN experience)?

OP posts:
poppy34 · 11/09/2008 10:06

udc didn't see the programme but can see why you would react that way.. maybe not as extreme but you do become much more sensitive to kids (anyones) when they are upset and instinctively want to comfort them...

Amberc · 11/09/2008 10:13

Quickly scanning through posts today and JOsey just remeber you said that Oli was like a newborn in terms of refelxes etc and babies don't really start to smile uintil 6 weeks so it'll come I'm sure!

Deb - cannot wait to see the telly prog - how exciting!

UDC - Luke been in a cot for ages now but he's so long he hasn't fit in his basket for ages. He seemed to take to it easily but I guess I am lucky in that respect. Now we can't get him to sleep anywhere else though. Teats - Luke has tommee tippee closer to nature - have you tried them - meant to be good for going breast to bottle etc.

Everyone else sorry not to have responded but 4th night in a row of 11, 12.30, 3, 4 and 5.30. I am beside myself with tiredness and don't know how I will manage Stevie Wonder tonight but I've been looking forward to it for ages. \pro Plus anyone?

poppy34 · 11/09/2008 10:15

sugary coke always good for waking up amber..so sorry he is being the amazing wakeful baby again..and even if you're tired a night out /break may be just what you need

Good Morning

Fivegomad, I dont think Im strong possibly just as mad as a box of frogs and that is what keeps me going. I was actually thinking about you at the weekend and your breakfasts....We stayed in a Travelodge(which Im not compairing to you stunning B&B) but we went for breakfast which we had pre-paid for. So we were approached by this awful woman who barked she would be with us shortly she was SOOOO busy seeing to 6 people 4 of which already had there breakfasts and she was only setting tables and handing out plates. When she got to us and discovered we had pre-paid she said FFS and stormed off on her return had a huge fight with us......So I really admire you doing all your breakfasts while you were pregnant and now with 2 los and only managing to tell that P*k to F off re the army base comment.....good luck with the a/cs

Thanks for the Hospice comments....It was only suggested to me yesterday....I think it will be good for her and for all of us as a family.....I just dont know how I feel about saying she is going to die to get her in.

Her Speach Therapist is going to contact the local SN school which have good Therapy rooms to see if I can take her there.
Her consultant has realised I will have her on a bed of nails to get the best for my little girl and has now agreed to contact the Vision Therapist.
I have to say Im managing to get so much help for her much further in advance than she should...Instead of waiting to see.

I have social work coming round next week to see what they can possibly do. Its never ending but worth it.

Amberec thanks I keep trying to tell myself this but its so exhausting not getting the uplift of that little smile Im being impatient.

OK away to have a cup of patience and play with the girls.

Have lovely days everyone...sorry if ive missed anyone I forgot what I was supposed to write half way through

hedgehog1979 · 11/09/2008 11:27

josey you sound amazing, think a hospice would be a good idea as others suggest for the respite for you.

amber have some coke, red bull, pro plus and when you get there you will forget all about the tiredness. I remember going to a gig at 6 months pg (seems like an age ago) and feeling knackered until I got there and then getting on a buzz once it started

UDC haven't put Isaac in his cot to sleep yet but use it at other times for containing him if I have to bath him on my own or when I want a shower, but having looked at him in his basket last night he is going to have to move soon - thinking it will probably be Monday evening as DH is off work on the Tuesday and if he doesn't settle I don't want to have the sleepless night all on my own.

Have collected parcel now - Very excited as it is my Birthday present from my parents (birthday not til 03/10) so am going to be like a kid for the next 4 weeks . Have given it to Dh to hide and will be hunting too

Essie3 · 11/09/2008 11:45

Ok, a quickie but Iestyn has been sleeping extremely badly (what is it with us all and our babies this week?!) so quite tired!

UDC no shouting, because I admit that I've also felt the urge. (And never mentioned it to anyone!) It's quite strange as I'm a private person when it comes to my body, but this is more...animal? (But no, I've never offered and never will!)
I agree on the weird Colombian woman. I never felt the urge when I was a happy childless woman (and babysat), and it's totally freaky that she even acted on that urge. Ugh.
Mind you, after my confession nobody will ever ask me to babysit again!

And on sleeping, miniature Iestyn (8th centile still but 11lb now!) is still in his moses basket, but it's the carrycot attachment to his pram, which goes in the car with a kit. (Also a Golf!) He has been sleeping in that when we've been away. However, it takes up the back seat of the car too so with your DS you don't have that option.

Ugh, only UDC has got a response now! Josey, great to see you back and keep positive - it sounds to me like Olivia has a wonderful future ahead of her, despite what the doctors might suggest.

Upsidedowncake · 11/09/2008 12:21

Josey, re the hospice, so many times, you and Oli have proved the experts wrong about life expectancy, skills etc. Could the hospice be a similar situation?

Amber, I should have remembered that Luke sleeps in his cot because he kept on getting stuck. SOrry about your bad night again. IS he waking for food or company? How are your days? Is he feeding enough in the days? Or is it another growth spurt? - am dreading the next one. Enjoy Stevie Wonder! (who BTW is looking vast, don't you think?)

Essie, glad you admitted to secret cross-feeding thoughts too! I think if I had a sister also feeding, I'd definitely do it, but not otherwise. Still too weird, but now I udnerstand it as an atavistic urge, so I feel better about myself.

Poppy, sorry not to see yesterday. Can't believe BTW that you're RL name is not Poppy. Was dying to ask you about it!

Hedgehog, Dorothy has had both her naps in her cot today, but she hasn't yet had to settle herself in the yawning wastes of the cot, so I may do daytime naps for a few days and then move on to the nights.

katyjo · 11/09/2008 12:26

Hi all

Quick post.

Josey The others are right, Olivia is so lucky to have a mummy like you, and your other dcs sound adorable. It would be great if you can access the facilities in the hospice, try not to worry about what it means as Olivia is proving them all wrong anyway, it will just be another way to do it.

UDC I found it really difficult to find teats ds would like, I heard the best ones are the really cheap brown latex ones. I ended up just using a cup, the nuk learner bottle has a soft spout, was the only thing he liked, I think its suitable from 3/4 months.

Amber enjoy stevie, you'll be fine once you get there!

hedgehog1979 · 11/09/2008 12:31

UDC Isaac is currently napping on the sofa (bad mummy emoticon)

Didn't watch the programme about the BF but when nephew was born (is 6 weeks younger than Isaac) SIL struggled with BF and I just wanted to take him and latch him on while they went out for formula, I also felt guilty feeding Isaac around them coz I could do it so easily

Sorry for all of you struggling with the sleep - Isaac is being an angel and starting to fall into a natural routine including sleeping from 9pmish to 7am ish

alipalli · 11/09/2008 12:48

I am finally up to date on the thread. I now have so much stuff spinning round in my head that I don't know where to start.

Josey realised after I posted last night that we had cross posted with you and thought it looked a bit like I had ignored you. Oli is doing so well, and I am sure that the smile will come. You certainly deserve one.

Thanks for the well wishes on Peter's sleeping. It's funny how lots of us seem to be having the same problem at the moment - excluding Hedgehog . The good news here is that for now, Peter seems to have got back to being the baby I remember from two weeks ago. He went down at 9.30, slept till 2am, back down at 2.30am and woke up at 6am. This is a pattern I can handle. I positively leapt out of bed this morning at 6am unlike on Monday morning when my ears were ringing because I was so tired. He is also being much calmer so far today and is currently having his third nap

Deb thanks for missing me! Hope that Ethan is okay after his jabs. I tried to be positive with Peter at the surgery when they were done and the nurse was all gloomy about doing it. Surely that is odd when she must be doing jabs all the time? Oh and he now weighs 16lb 12oz or 7.6kg at 12 weeks

Peter awake again, better go, I'll be back later.

Amberc · 11/09/2008 14:27

Alipali - I dream of that night time schedule. It's what Luke used to do and then I moaned about it. I don't know what he's waking up for.

UDC - When he woke at 12.50 last night I just rocked him back to sleep but it took half an hour. Hee wasn't hungry as he'd only been fed a couple of hours before. When he wakes up he doesn't seem to know how to go back to sleep again. This of course means he is dog tired during the day and needs load of naps. It's turned into a vicious circle and I don't know how to get out of it. Hoping night nanny will come tomorrow and she won't take any shit from him like getting up at every whimper. Maybe she can give me some advice.

LauraT · 11/09/2008 14:46

hi all,

we've been to the cinema again today - I recommend the duchess, even though I usually can't stand Keira Knightly!

so far today I have not yet been vomited on - a record possibly!

for those of you struggling with sleep patterns, hope today brings lots of shut-eye for those who need it!

alipalli nice to have you back!

Debs how exciting about the TV programme, will look forward to seeing it.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 11/09/2008 15:14

Laura well done on the non vomiting

I am sorry to say,, and I do feel awful, that Sebastian has been sleeping through for nearly 2 weeks, usually from about 8 until about 6, I have no idea how we did it he just did. Consequently he does feed every 2 hours during the day and we have yet to sort out a naptime so he just falls asleep anywhere.

Amber - enjoy tonight

Debs - how is Ethan?

goingfor3 · 11/09/2008 16:56

ALI I got ds weighed today and he is 15lbs 14oz at 16 weeks which I thought was pretty good going until I saw how big your ds is!

I bought ds one of "these" and it really is very cute. He can hod it really well and shove it in his mouth too.

poppy34 · 11/09/2008 20:19

udc lol re real life name.. poppy was a much loved (and missed) dog....

touchwood edie pretty good at night - bit like sebastian 5gomad but as you say does mean a lot of feeding and be madly vigilant about afternoon naps

laurat hope that they are still showing it nex

had fruitless day today..was meant to be going to france for weekend - well we did have a trip of sorts .. ended up going on eurostar to ashford adn then home again (incl trip on train back here in rush hour) as we got turned back due to the tunnel. as was looking forward to my weekend away but will try to do it again next week (if we can get tickets)...

josey you are doing such an amazing job fighting for little olivia..the school does sound better option adn glad your consultant doing his bit re vision consultant.

sorry skimmed posts so will try and post later..take away time now

Been catching up on sleep lately as its had finally hit me!! aslo still have infection which makes me feel ill so been snuggling in bed with fleur so havent been around.

Deb - LOL at the programme, sounds like fun and i go for the boho chick fashion quite often at mo as it does indeed cover up!!! When you go back will you teach nursery again?

Josey - good to hear from you thats fab re the money raised and glad Olivia is yet again proving people wrong.

Loving the swimming classes here they dont start til they are 6 mths!!!you would have thought in this climate and with so much sea around us and beaches so near they would start earlier

UDC - i still use Avent number 1 teat as Fleur refuses to drink for airflow ones or the number 2

Poppy - sorry your trip got cancelled hope you have a nice weekend anyhow

Hellos to everyone else!!

poppy34 · 11/09/2008 20:52

am not too bad as have had takeaway and eyeing the chocolate raisins ..although sorry not to be visiting our other place

debinaustria · 11/09/2008 22:59

Thanks for all the well wishes re the programme.

Sophie - thanks for asking, Ethan was unsettled today, had a long snooze with me on the settee this afternoon. Put him to bed at about 8.00 - wide awake and miraculously he fell asleep fine and no tears yet. the Dr said to expect a fever tomorrow - probably to coincide with watching his brothers play tennis in a mini tournament

Had a much , much better night last night - he went 8-6.00 like Sebastian and also feeds every 2 hours in the day. Fingers crossed for tonight. Must go, midnight here - why am I still up???

Amberc · 12/09/2008 07:40

Stevie Wonder rocked!!!!!! It was the best concert I have ever been to plus I had a few drinks so was dancing like a mad woman! If you get the chance do go it's amazing.

Got in at midnight though and then had a 3.50 feed (which DP did but still woke me up) and up at 6.15 with a hangover . Was worth it though - I really needed that to remind me that I am not just a nappy changing machine - it was good to laugh again - really laugh, proper belly laughs.
