Hi all,

Just a quick post

Josey Good to see you back with us, sorry your having a rollercoaster journey, hopefully the next wee while it will be all ups and no downs.

I meant to say to Amber and Paro I brought dss last feed forward when he was a baby, if I fed him at 6.30 downstairs then put him to bed upstairs at about 7.30 I found he would take a full feed at 11 and he started going longer. It means you aren't feeding them to sleep, but it worked for us.

The problem I have with Mia is getting her to eat, she took 6oz in one go today - yippee! She is such a tiny little mite, but if I keep on trying to force feed her she's going to end up a ten ton tess! Why do we worry so much about their eating habits?!

katyjo · 10/09/2008 16:15

ThaT'S AMAZING POPPY, would love to go but no classes near me!

pleasechange · 10/09/2008 19:12

that looks fab poppy. There are similar
courses near to me and I can't decide whether or not to go (especially with recent car costs!). Let us know how they go!

Amberc · 10/09/2008 19:19

which one do you go to Poppy?

Katjo, I do feed Luke at 6.30 and he's already sound asleep in bed now. I think he will just do it when he's ready as he takes a massive amount in the night so he must need it? Or is it the natural sucking instinct and they are too drowsy to care if they are hungry or not?

fungle · 10/09/2008 19:47

Evening all.
Amber - I too think that half of the problem is mine, I wake at the slightest noise from Isla and can't get back to sleep through fear that she is going to wake up and I will have just gone back to sleep.
Josie - Good to hear from you, I too have been wondering how you are getting on.
To all those many who have been having bad nights - heres hoping for a better tonight!
Isla took a full 5oz bottle at 7 and is fast asleep now. x

Amberc · 10/09/2008 20:33

By the way, Luke's legs are really bandy and his feet still turn in. Are other babies' legs doing this - am I worrying for no reason? If so when do they straighten out?

poppy34 · 10/09/2008 20:51

I'm going to the classes in ham now amberc..andbit difficult to tell as edie is always kicking or in frogs legs position so think I wouldnt worry (plus am sure they check for serious issues with hips at 6 weeks)...

re feeding, nothing will make madam feed if she doesnt want to so I think luke will get ther e- must need it if drinking it

OP posts:
josey · 10/09/2008 21:49

Thank you all for being so kind.

Amber the bandy legs is normal as for the feet, my DD1 had a position issue with one foot from being in the womb and I was told just to hold her foot from time to time on the palm of my hand in the correct position. If your not sure it certainly doesnt hurt.

Ernest how is your DS I remember he was going for an op.

Debs are you sold up yet?

AH must try and get together again.

Glasgow girls sorry I missed you, with one thing and the other I didnt get down till very late on the Friday. Another time Im down though.

My Aunty was a great help she is a head and inspector for special schools so advised for items for a light therapy room.

Amberec her hearing is fine no issues there, its just her eyes. And its not so much the word Hospice but the fact that she has to be refered as a child that does not expect to reach adulthood(thats the best way I can bare to right it)

O had IMMs again today and discussing with HV thought that she doesnt like fluresant lights, she rolls her eyes in supermarkets, consultants and docs...possible connection to unhappy time in NNU.

To be honest her development is amazing, she has good head control, has started pushing up on her feet, and is begining to midline her hands and head...she has also started to hit toys hanging on her chair and gym(all be it sensory instead of vision but hey its pretty bloody good no?)

I was also told a couple of weeks ago she has developed her newborn reflexes IE stepping, startle, gag everything all los are born with but by now some of the reflexes should have matured and gone if all had been well. So it is almost in some respects that at 3months she was a few days old.

She is properly crying now and letting us know if she is hungry(if im late with her feed) or if she is dirty and has reflux...so communication is now in place.

On another note...DHs jump was postponed due to fantastic Scottish weather!!! Im so proud of him we have managed to raise £3000+ and donations are still pouring in

Again love to you all xx

ThePenguinProject · 10/09/2008 21:50

Amber - Really sorry to hear about your night. Think you're going to see Stevie Wonder tonight, so hope you have a better time of it.

Sorry to all of you suffering difficult nights.

Essie - $10 is nowhere near enough money! I watched the show and could just about understand the sisters (and even then I'm not sure). The childless woman who breastfed her friends baby w/o asking really freaked me out with her "it's very sexual" comments....

Josie - Fantastic to hear from you. Olivia really is a little fighter isn't she? I'm sure she'll be smiling at you soon.

Allnew - Those courses look great.

Katyjo - I know what you mean, the whole feeding thing is strangely emotive. Primal need I guess..?

Ryder has been so much better today - which is just as well as we've been out all day.

Debenhams is currently having a three day 20% off promotion - especially good as I'm looking at a duffle coat there for Ryder which is still £20 after the discount!

josey · 10/09/2008 21:50

Oh PS on the weaning, I have only recently discovered this, on my 3rd child as well it is not advised to try until proper head control has developed as they will not be able to swallow well enough to cope. Hope this helps

alipalli · 10/09/2008 21:53

Hello, did you miss me?

We were in Devon last week and I have spent all of my bf "free" time for the last two days trying to catch up on the two threads. I left you guys at page 30 of the old thread and you are now onto page 7 of the new one. Just as well that Peter has been having some kind of crazy growth spurt as that has given me lots of reading time. I'm still not quite up to date, but just got to the discussions about extreme bf. Check this out from our blog extreme breastfeeding (the "windy in Woolacombe" post)

makecakes spotted yesterday when I checked the blog that you had posted comments on it. Thank-you, that is really sweet. How are you doing?

PP going way back to last week in the thread, it is Chemical Brothers who did the singing fish video. DH is very into his music so I knew he would know.

The other reason for not posting sooner is that we have been having a really tough few days with Peter since getting back from our holiday. The holiday itself was really good, and Peter seemed to have a good time. Since the weekend his sleep has been awful - lots of empathy to you AH. He has also become very windy for the first time in his life, and to top it all he had his 12 week jabs yesterday. He reacted much more to these jabs than to the first lot. This time last night was fairly miserable. He seems to have bounced back today though, apart from a substantial screaming fit in Sainsbury's this afternoon. Anyway, I was feeling a bit miserable yesterday and wondering what I am doing wrong. Today I have a bit more perspective (for now)

Right, I will get back to catching up on all your exploits, and try to post properly tomorrow.

debinaustria · 10/09/2008 21:57

Evening everyone,

Josey - I was just thinking about you today and wondering how you were getting on. So pleased that Olivia is still making moves in the right direction, I think the hospice will be a great support, just think of it as a special hospital.

Sophie - did you get the paperwork done?

Laura and Essie - I just watched the bfeeding programme, couldn't believe the woman who hadn't given birth but could produce breastmilk, and the woman who saved the babies in the Sudan - amazing. Not too sure myself about cross feeding though.

Here's our news - We've heard today that we're going to be on TV - it's a programme called No Place like home about expats considering moving back to the UK. They come out and film us here for 3 days, then take us to the UK for 5 days of filming 9-5, then we have to say what our decision will be, UK or Austria. Seemed like a good idea at the time but now I'm thinking OMG , I've nothing to wear,I'll have to wear magic pants all the time, and keep the house tidy - AARGH. When they come here they said they'll just film us doing our usual stuff for 3 days, as Ethan is still feeding 2 hourly there'll be a lot of coverage of me sitting on the settee.
So do you think in 2 weeks I can slim back into my jeans which I still can't zip up or sit down in, tidy up the house, garden, get Ethan to bfeed without pinging off to smile at me, exposing all, help dh with decorating, etc..etc...

Please be patient with me over the next few weeks as I get ready , if you see me on here too much, kick me off and tell me to go tidy up or exercise or something. And if I don't reply to you I'm sorry!!

debinaustria · 10/09/2008 22:01

I missed you Allipalli - with Peter being Ethan's birthday buddy. Ethan has his 1st injections here tomorrow - a lot later than the UK isn't it. Glad you had a good holiday but sorry yesterday wasn't a good day for you. I'm having problems with Ethan beginning to wake more in the night now, but he is lovely in the day and goes to bed really well so I am very thankful as ds2 cried and cried as a baby.

debinaustria · 10/09/2008 22:06

Josey - we're waiting until after we've been back to the UK before putting the house on the market, just in case we don't like it anymore!! The last time we went back for a decent length of time was May 2006 so it's been a long time and when you're homesick you only remember the good things.
I am so thrilled to hear of Olivia's development she sounds so strong. How are your other 2 dc?

josey · 10/09/2008 22:35

Debs I am PMSL at you and your TV prog, maybe you could be a bohochick instead of jeans....The prog sounds like the one Nadia whats her face does(swah something) they take them to Australia and Newzeland I love it, please tell us when it is on.

IM so proud of my baby she really does make me happy and I dont feel cheated or anything she is still perfect to me, I know If I carry on the way we are she will probably end up the only child I have with a PHD She is so amazing, her strenght of character is so inspiring and its what keeps me going.............JUst wish she would fkn smile lol why cant I learn I cant have everything and it will come sometime im sure.

My other DCs are wonderful, DD1 was 3 on the 30th AUg and started Nursery this week, she has amuzed me so much these past couple of weeks....Tonight at the dinner table she says"please may me and my brother leave the table as I would like to play with his toys" OKAY
DS is muddling along loving his new class, tonight he was very upset re the world being sucked through a black hole, he crys about the war and things so I expect a rough night with him after hearing the news!

hedgehog1979 · 10/09/2008 22:53

Sorry all, Internet has been playing up- here. going off as soon as i click post etc.

Have read to catch up so here are a few comments.

josey so glad to hear that olivia is still sticking it to the consultants. Hope she continues to amaze you

deb would love to see the tv prog, have watched loads of those kind of shows since Isaac was born and would love to have the balls to be able to go on one.

swimming classes I have found these aqua babies which are on a similar line to the little dippers ones. After my swimming trip with Isaac we are thinking of something like this just to make him more confident in the water as DH is not that confident.

I take back the moans about DH as he bought me back limited edition Jean Paul Gaultier perfume which he remembered we bought on our first anniversary trip together and a georgeous parker pen, as I have a stationary obsession, although I did have to take Isaac to the airport to meet him (he slept all the way through - Isaac not DH)

ali I have done that type of extreme breastfeeding too (dawlish not woolacombe)

Right off to bed now

debinaustria · 10/09/2008 22:54

Josey - you'll have to tell me what a bohochick is 1st - then I'll decide if I want to be one!!!Don't think they have them in Austria!
lol at your dd1 at the dinner table. I used to teach Nursery - they were my favourite age group.
Maybe Olivia's saving up those smiles for you or is it a muscular problem which stops her?

debinaustria · 10/09/2008 22:56

Programme will be on ITV in the daytime but don't know when.. I might tell you when it's broadcast....if I get out of my elasticated waist trousers in time!

josey · 10/09/2008 23:29

whoops meant Chic not chick, hippee with lovely float tops and skirts(stretchy waists) go back to my school days of flowery dresses/skirts knitted cardies/jumpers leggings and docs I WISH.

I dont think smiling is movement it is more vision, she responds to light in the respect if the sun belts in her face she shuts her eyes and screws up her face, and pupils dialate to light change(though I have been told that dialation just means they eye ball works)(yes I swore alot also) I also think her reflux is making her so misserable she has nothing to smile about. All Im worried about is for her to react to light the way she does means that part of her brain works to some extent which means making a therapy room means we can make developements she can improve and BY FK I WILL MAKE SURE SHE DOES

PP and Heghog yes she fights like nothing I have ever seen, it is almost like she knows what they are saying about her and she thinks, noway look I can do this and off she goes.

I am under no Illusions that I have a very disabled child, but I do know that she has so much more than what we were first told.

What I really find hard just now is...I have been awarded Highest rate disability allowance and can apply for carers allowance and they are suggesting that I apply to a hospice which will only accept her if they think she is going to die in childhood....I know she would benefit and so would we but how can I make suggestions that this maybe the case?

Did anyone see the news yesterday about the woman that was jailed for killing her daughter with CP I just about fell on my kitchen floor with sobbing for that poor little girl.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 11/09/2008 07:35

Josey - yet again I am amazed by you and your daughter, where you both get your strength from I have no idea but you both are such fighters.

Deb - I know the programme you mean and will kepp an eye out for it, my eys gave up at lunchtime yesterday so will be back doing it this morning.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 11/09/2008 07:59

Sebastian is still asleep luckily, yesterday I ended up doing breakfast as I was holding him, going to see the nearer nursery next week which sounds more like a childminders.

debinaustria · 11/09/2008 08:32

Sophie - hope the visit to the nursery is positive. Doing breakfast must be a nightmare especially when holding a baby. We don't have guests at the moment so it's decorating time again.

Ethan has his 1st jabs this morning - not looking forward to it.

goingfor3 · 11/09/2008 08:33

Josey Yu really are being such a wonderful and strong mum to Olivia.

Debs Look forward to seeing the programme!
