Thought I'd start the new thread using paro's suggestion

Hello again all. 5gomad - glad your CTF doing well at the mo. I'm a bit worried about the fact that the CTF will automatically transfer to DS at age of 18 and that he might waste it on fast cars and loose women . I think we might go with putting any money away for his future in a different type of account.

of eternity rings. Have dropped lots of hints but nothing forthcoming. However, what makes me much more is that I still cant get my engagement ring and wedding ring back on. Has this happened to anyone else? Going from a size 10 to a size 14/16 in two years is bad enough, but I didn't think my fingers would get fat too!

On room temperature stuff, I agree that 18 degrees seems bloody freezing. Poor S has very cold hands in the morning but it doesn't seem to bother him at all. I'm confused though, if it was 18 outside it would be quite pleasant . I've still got S in a lighter weight grobag though (1 tog) and he wears a sleeveless bodysuit under it. I've bought some long-sleeved bodysuits for him to wear when it gets colder and I've got a 2.5 tog grobag in the 6 months plus size. Is it mean of me to refuse to buy a 2.5 tog in 0-6 months when he wont get much wear out of it?

I keep telling him he needs to get used to the cold because we live in Scotland . On the subject of cold weather etc, do people think that pram suits are necessary if baby has warm clothes, warm jacket and is tucked up in a footmuff/cosytoes. People in my baby group already got their babies in pramsuits when I've got S in jeans, t and a hoody!

Ooh, long post, you can tell its been a while!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 06/10/2008 20:11

Yes me, so getting all questions are you Miss or Mrs.

I have 10lbs to go to lose all baby weight so have managed to lose 22lbs but struggling, might help if I stopped quaffing the vino

FiveGoMadInDorset · 06/10/2008 20:51

But after that have still got a huge way to go.

alipalli · 06/10/2008 21:24

Amber 77lbs - now that would be something and would probably warrant a Channel 5 documentary on the subject. Hope that DP's birthday meal is nice tonight.

Very impressed that you have an eternity ring Sybil. My DH isn't educated in these kinds of traditions. On the plus side he does seem to have finally learnt when P's birthday is. Disturbingly he has got it wrong a few times recently. Wishing that like Amber's DH he would read this thread to see what I am wanting thinking.

An extended topic of conversation with PILS over the weekend was whether babies' arms get chilly in sleeveless gro bags (it was a bit tedious repeating the SIDS guidelines after a while). I will have to tell MIL that you can get ones with sleeves. We also have an ongoing debate in our house about whether 18 degrees is very cold for sleeping or not. It has dropped down to 18 at 5am when I have been feeding the last few nights and I was cold . BDQ very amused that the Scottish babies are having to be toughened up whilst the soft Southern babies are in loads of layers. Peter is currently sleeping in a 2.5 tog gro bag with a baby gro and sometimes an extra vest as well. I'm just following the gro-bag guidelines though in relation to the temperature of the room. Peter wore a pram suit for the first time last week. It was really quite chilly here a couple of days ago with a northerly wind. I got brownie points as MIL had bought the pram suit in question back in August thinking it would fit him at Christmas. Not Peter though. He is so big now that it fitted perfectly this weekend which was good as MIL got to see him in it. He really looked cute in it too.

ThePenguinProject · 06/10/2008 21:51

I work by these guidelines for grobags and temperature, but still seems too cold to me!

BDQ - I lost weight for my wedding, so when I'm slim my only wedding ring fits me and when I'm larger only my engagement ring fits. Think you can guess what I'm wearing right now.

Amberc · 07/10/2008 09:15

PP - I have immediately bought one of those gummy teethers - what a good idea - a teether like a dummy.

I have not lost a single pound other than what the baby weighed and the other pregnancy related bits. I cannot believe it and must be the only person to have not lost a pound. VERY depressing but will be able to go to gym once Luke in nursery and I get some more sleep.

Had a lovely meal last night - went mad and had a whole grilled lobster - yum yum!!!

We put our £250 in the Children's mutual. We are going to top it up ourselves and Luke's Grandmother is opening a seperate account and putting £50 a month in (whoaaa!). At the mo Luke wears a sleeved bodysuit plus a 1 tog grobag plus a blanket. I am cold in the room next door with PJs and a 13 tog duvet!

Luke had another disrupted night last night although night nanny was here so I got a bit of sleep thankfully. He seems to want to turn onto his side but can't always do it so he wakes up and grizzles until I put him in the right position with a blanket rolled up behond him. Also did the deed last night and feel much better for getting that first one after the birth out the way as it was starting to be 'a thing'. I felt almost embarrassed like when you first meet someone - how funny! It did feel different though I must admit.

Luke loved his hour at nursery yesterday and was laughing a lot. He was sparko on the way home. Not sure he'll be laughing so much today as he has his jabs at 10.30 - hmm.

No diamond rings for me. No rings at all!

Amberc · 07/10/2008 09:19

PS can anyone think of a place which is warm for a holiday in winter but not transatlantic or Tenerife?

FiveGoMadInDorset · 07/10/2008 09:45

Amber, can reccomend Mark Warner, they do egypt holidays and have a nursery for Luke so you get some free time, we went on one to Corsica when Edie was 4 and a half months and she was so well looked after.

bitofadramaqueen · 07/10/2008 09:46

Glad its not just me PP.

Amber I dont think I've lost any weight either. Not that I've weighed myself, but just going by clothes etc.

Have just looked again at the temperature guidelines and it would appear there is clearly no risk of S overheating. Perhaps should add a blanket. Poor wee thing. Tis character building though

On the bank account funds, we have decided to open CTF for the voucher, savings account for pennies, pocket money etc that S can take control of when he is older and any money that we want to put away for his future we're going to put in an ISA in our own names then we have complete control.

alipalli when you had peter in a pram suit what did he have on underneath? Am starting to fret that I might be being too tough on S!!!!

poppy34 · 07/10/2008 09:51

mm.. amber -glad you had some break with night nanny... been up since 4 and only just got madam back to sleep

malta another option -not as warm as some places but warm enough.. also sicily can be quite warm and is absolutely fantastic

OP posts:
alipalli · 07/10/2008 09:55

BDQ a baby gro and possibly a vest

Amberc · 07/10/2008 11:57

Poppy - I am actually Maltese believe it or not and would love to go but November is very hit and miss with the weather and is more 'pleasant' than sunbathing weather.

When we go out with Luke he has his regular clothes on (vest troosers and top) plus a jacket and socks and then his footmuff is on. It's more of a body muff though as he's only little and it's like travelling in a big duvet - lovely! He hated it at first but now falls fast asleep quickly and loves it.

Amberc · 07/10/2008 12:10

PP - I must be some kind of retard as I can't work out which side of that teether thing is meant to go in his mouth as at the moment he just spits it out in seconds.

goingfor3 · 07/10/2008 12:26

All the talk about the voucher has reminded me I must put ds's into an account. DD1 doesn't have one as she is too old but has two savings accounts one we put money into and one for her modelling money. DD2 has her voucher in a savings account, we don't add to it as we want to be in control of her savings and don't want her to go on a big spending spree with money we have saved - if she blows the voucher money we aren't bothered.

poppy34 · 07/10/2008 16:13

anyone else got very sleepy baby ? having woken up at 4 has now spent most of day asleep which has done a couple of times over last few days - also hungry so I guess its a combo of growth spurt and maybe getting over her cold ..anyone else had this too?

OP posts:
Amberc · 07/10/2008 16:18

Luke is tired in the day but he's sleeping so badly at night. He had fun at nursery on his own today and fell fast asleep in the pram on the way home. He also had his jabs today and I think that takes it out of them.

poppy34 · 07/10/2008 16:20

that seems to be the same story here re night time sleeping (she is better than she was last week but still having trouble.. perhaps we should have some virtual earlybirds thread

and agree re jabs - only side effects so far is taht she is completely sparko all afternoon after she has had em.

glad he liked nursery -did you get some rest while he was there?

OP posts:
bitofadramaqueen · 07/10/2008 16:31

S has been refusing to take proper daytime naps over the last couple of days. That's him at three months. I dont know about him, but I'm exhausted!!! Today he would only fall asleep cuddled up in my arms - it was like having a newborn in the house again. It was kind of cute though!

Amberc sleepiness is definitely a common side effect of jabs. In fact, I now look forward to jab day

poppy34 · 07/10/2008 16:32

bdq the double edged sword of cuddling to sleep.. I got into bed yesterday realising that I'd spent most of the day cuddling edie (we travelled home with her in a sling from france and spent most of teh evening cuddling her to sleep )and I missed her ..the bad side of it is that she is not the best about getting to sleep without it - having thoguht we were making progress have now gone backwards

OP posts:
bitofadramaqueen · 07/10/2008 16:56

I was thinking the same poppy re going backwards. He'd just settled into a bit of a daytime nap routine and I thought I'd finally be able to get on top of things through the day and now this started! Hoping its just a phase?

Those of you FF - how many ounces were you giving at 3 months? S is on 6 at the mo, and wondering whether to increase. He's started draining most, but not all of his bottles.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 07/10/2008 17:00

BDQ we make up S's bottles to 210 mls, sometimes he finsihes, sometimes not and that seems to be working for him.

S is also going through the holding thing, at the moment he is on Gaviscon about 1 in 3 feeds, colief, every feed and I also think he may be starting to teeth, we are having red cheeks and 3 poos today but he aslo ahs a cold so more likely that.

bitofadramaqueen · 07/10/2008 17:36

S had red cheeks and two poos yesterday so wondered about teething too. Although, the grandparents have been saying he's hungry/teething ever since he discovered that it was fun to put his hand in his mouth so am resisting any notion of teething . He's been a bit more sneezy than usual though so he could have a wee bit of a cold.

5gomad I started doing daily 'anti-colic' massage with S to help him with painful passing of wind and general colicky-ness and have been able to stop giving him dentinox finally. Worth a try for S?

poppy34 · 07/10/2008 18:17

BDQ I hope its just a phase too - she is a little better..we are on 210ml/7oz now (I moved it up a couple of weeks ago for same reasons as you are thinking)

OP posts:
poppy34 · 07/10/2008 18:18

cross posts with 5gomad- and I always liek to hear what you're up to as you're an experienced mum..glad its not just me with a cuddly baby . Have you started ghost road yet? read it years go so need to see if my copy is still around somewhere

Evening all - the big news here is that Iestyn has his first tooth! Lik DQ I've been resisting, but we had a horrific night last night, and today UDC confirmed that the hard pin-sized white dot is definitely a tooth! (Yesterday, he was rosy cheeked, has been drooling for Wales, and hands in mouth - particularly last night when I remarked to DH that he was reverting to newborn behaviour; when he was newborn, he would try to suck me and his hand at the same time.)

DH says lucky he never slept through because he would have stopped!

Amber I left without my dummies today and PP lent me Ryder's teether dummy. Iestyn wasn't convinced!
