Thought I'd start the new thread using paro's suggestion

Luke has been in a terrible mood for the last few days - whinging constantly and crying and it's all we can do to try and make him smile. His cheeks have been bright pink and I swear he must be teething as there is no other explanation even if the HV says he isn't - anyone else had this and if so what's the prognosis?!

ThePenguinProject · 05/10/2008 17:38

This might help Amber....?

Upsidedowncake · 05/10/2008 17:58

Hi Amber

It sounds like he really could be teething - why would the HV say he isn't? Dorothy got a tooth at three months fgs.

Amberc · 05/10/2008 19:24

PP - those are the exact symptoms he has - he cannot be without something to bite on otherwise he cries. My fingers have been bitten to the bone - he's got very strong jaws! He has a teething ring but he can't quite get it in his mouth properly. He has a small steif style teddy with stiff arms and legs which he prefers and the poor thing has been bitten to death and is ruined! All its fur is matted with drool! Glad to see I have been doing the right things but not glad to see this can go on for months!

UDC my HV is a waste of space. She looked in his mouth and said she couldn't see any teeth and this was a phase. I can't see any teeth either but apparently this can go on for weeks before a tooth arrives.

Upsidedowncake · 05/10/2008 20:03

It could be his teeth moving around in his jaw. Christian started teething at two months, just like Dorothy and Luke, drool, cheeks, munching, irritability, poo bombs ... and as my DH had got teeth at 3 months, we all (including the HV) thought the teeth were coming.

Well, everything calmed down (except the drooling and munching) for a few months and I didn't notice anything until 7 months and 2 days when he suddenly spent the day screaming and a tooth popped out that afternoon. (It was also the day he learnt to crawl!) So fingers crossed for you that like Christian, everything will all calm down, and the actual tooth will pop out with almost no hassle at all!

Upsidedowncake · 06/10/2008 10:51

tumbleweed ...

ThePenguinProject · 06/10/2008 11:06

The shouting/laughing thing is driving me mad! Ryder is so loud. He woke us up with this at 4am and again woke me this way this morning. I'd have thought that being woken by your baby's laugh would be the most wonderful in the world, but I was wrong, I'd rather just sleep....

He wouldn't go back to sleep after the 4am feed until 5.30am when I basically fed him back to sleep. How do you all get your LO's back to sleep after a feed in the middle of the night?

fungle · 06/10/2008 12:27

PP Isla has been doing the same after night feeds. Looking very awake. No advice really, Im wondering myself what to do because I don't want to fall into the habit of feeding to sleep. Did this with DD and she was a nightmare sleeper until around 2 1/2 Middle of the night you'll do whatever though eh.
It is very quiet here at the moment isnt it.
Libra, hope your hangover wasn't as bad as mine was....Me and DP went for dinner Sat night and then a few drinks afterwards, didnt go to bed till 2.30, felt shocking all day yesterdayWas good to go out together though, had a right laugh.
Isla is upstairs crying at the moment....Its DD's first full day at school. hence i can start trying to get this daytime sleep sussed. She had 45mins, then woke crying, therefore i still think shes tired, so have been up to settle her and hoping she'll go back to sleep. Amber, you did this with Luke didnt you? Any tips? Is it still working now?
Deb, hope you made it safely over to the UK.
Ooh she's stopped, hope thats it for a while....

PiggyPenguin · 06/10/2008 14:07

Hi all, special hello to Sophie - also, is is ok that I still think of you as Sophie? Feels a bit personal given I have never acually met you but just can't stop myself.

Jamie being a pain today, doesn't seem to want to feed at all - even when asleep. He is happy as larry though so am trying not to worry.

needahand · 06/10/2008 14:46

Debs welcome back to the UK. Will you still talk to us once you are famous after being on TV with ironed muslin (Iron muslins??? I don't even iron SJ's clothes...or mine these days..hum hum). I bet after the horrendous journey you won't want to leave the UK and do it again!

UDC No tips on the wee-wee poopoo phase, but each time we say something to DD that she doesn't want to hear she says "that is not fair" and/or rolls on the floor throwing a tantrum...nice

PP sorry you've had a hard time

Essie3 · 06/10/2008 15:36

Hi all - how quiet is it on here? I've been busy all weekend and thought there'd be loads to catch up on!

I went shopping with DH on Saturday and he bought me an eternity watch! I didn't want a ring, so opted for a watch. We've decided to spend our way through the credit crunch. (Hell, we have 2 mortgages, it's too late for us now!)

PP if you have a really tough time like that again, remember to text me. If I'm in London I can give you some time out if you want. (Says woman who is brilliant with babies...NOT!)

What else now? of hangovers - who would have thought I'd say that?!

Can't think what else I wanted to respond to. UDC no answers on DS' phase, except to say that my DH is still in that phase more or less...so a boy thing? I have an anecdote for you though: my godson's brother went through a phase (around 2 and a half) of being obsessed with his winky. To the point where he offered to show it to people: eg, checkout lady at Tesco 'aren't you being a good boy today?' 'Yes I am - would you like to see my winky?', and childless me: 'guess what I have in my trousers?' me, all innocent: 'what?' Duhhhhhhh...

Muslins are the only thing I iron now. But I'll have to check absorbency!!

bitofadramaqueen · 06/10/2008 16:35

Hello everyone! Just thought I'd pop in and say hello. Having a terrible day with S who hasn't had a nap at all, and resorted to putting him in the sling where he is happily screaming away. The only thing I can do is sit at the computer.

Glasgow gals - thanks for emails and sorry for lack of reply. I dont know where my time is going at the moment. I think I'll need to miss out on next meetup as I've got exams in November and am trying to squeeze in as much studying as I can in October, by getting babysitters in during the week! Let me know about the next one though?

Hope everyone is well - deb are you back in the UK. When's your programme on.

Essie as the former queen of ironing, even I have to ask why you iron muslins?

Anyone, any good ideas re savings for childrens? HAve started a thread here with my query.

alipalli · 06/10/2008 16:42

A quiet day here having had the in laws staying for a long weekend. I am very lucky with the PILs, but it is still good to get the house back to myself. I was most irritated by MIL arriving with 2 casseroles that she had not mentioned she was bringing. We normally try to encourage both sets of parents not to bring food with them (they are convinced that there is no food in the nasty South East). Now MIL has gone undercover about it, because she wants to help out. I appreciate the sentiment, but I had a fridge full of food that needed cooking. The freezer is now stocked up...

PP sorry to hear about your troubles with Ryder. You asked about whether the non-dairy thing is working. Well, I haven't completely cut it out, so still having milk in tea, and the odd biscuit. However it is now two weeks since I cut back and generally Peter's wind, sleeping and eczema are all improved. I wouldn't say for sure that it is the lack of dairy that has caused it, it could of course just be that he has matured a bit, but things are easier most of the time. Having said that Peter had a bad night last night and I currently smell of baby sick, ho hum... The other positive side effect is that I have lost a bit more weight. I am now down to the heaviest I ever weighed in my life pre-pregnancy. Half of me is pleased and the other half is slightly bemused that I am happy to be the same size that I was when I was unemployed in a new city and comfort eating all day

I haven't managed to post much in the last few weeks. Peter needs to be bounced for much of the time, so I can't type too often. I did mean to say that I have started going to post-natal pilates once a week. I have really enjoyed having an hour of me time and feeling slightly more active too. Disturbingly the instructor diagnosed me with a 2.5cm abdominal separation that the GP had not bothered to check for. If I prod my stomach I can't believe that I had not noticed this valley running the length of my tummy.

I had a quick read down the due June 2009 thread this morning. They are just beginning to get BFPs. Can you believe that it is a year already since that was happening to us? It feels like another world in some ways.

Essie of your eternity watch. I would love an eternity ring off DH especially as he is really a DP and the traditionalist in me would like to confuse people with a strategically placed ring , however if I ask him for one I will spoil it.

Gotta go, Peter awake.

Amberc · 06/10/2008 17:12

PP I sympathise - mine was 5am this morning. Luke woke up 11pm, 1.30, 2.30, 3.30, and between 5-6 I was up 4 times then got up. I am soooo tired and it's DP's borthday so have dinner out planned (and have to erm...well it's his birthday!!)

Amberc · 06/10/2008 17:21

Fungle - everything gone to pot on the sleeping front as Luke is all over the place with his potential teething problems so I have been holding him more and he's been dropping off in his pushchair as he seems to get woken up by gum pain and scream so I pick him up to soothe him. Good luck. Did work fine - after 45 mins I used to dummy him and he would sleep for 45 minutes more but as I say at the mo I he doesn't want a dummy he wants something he can chew which is not conducive to sleep!

Ali - jealous of weight loss - I got rid of 77 lbs but have now put the whole lot on. Cannot diet whilst this tired and certainly can't exercise.

poppy34 · 06/10/2008 17:24

hi all -back from weekend away (flight was ok although had major crying jag on way down -but hugely impressed with ba and terminal 5 for being super helpful... captain even helped put the pushchair up as was last off plane and struggling with it).

amberc sorry to hear about your problems with luke - I hope things ease up a bit soon as sounds like you're having a right time of it.

fungle sympatheis re sleepign problem... have similar issue re cuddling/rocking to sleep = was getting better about making her settle with pick up/put down and was going to be really strict last week but she was ill (still not great) so didnt think she'd learn much when could hardly breath for sniffing. I do think that she was waking as she was cold as definitley been better since I wrapped up in thicker grobag.

sorry will post moer later as just skimming posts

OP posts:
Amberc · 06/10/2008 17:30

Clearly I meant 7 lbs not 77!

Essie3 · 06/10/2008 17:32

Amber don't laugh (or cry either!) but I think extreme tiredness stops you losing weight. And you certainly shouldn't diet if you're tired. (That's properly tired like Amber, not 'hmm don't feel like denying myself food and fancy lots of biscuits' tired like me...)

Ali I'm sure I read somewhere that an eternity ring is birth of first baby. You need to leave that kind of information lying around! Has anyone been given an eternity ring?

Amberc · 06/10/2008 17:34

PS have ordered new grobags with arms in them - they even have little hand mitts for when it's really cold. I often thought Luke's arms might be cold especially as it's getting colder and they say the optimum temp is 18 degrees - that's chilly. WHat do you think?

sleeping bags with arms

Amberc · 06/10/2008 17:36

Essie I agree as your body is not working properly and it's probably storing up things - plus I am anaemic (sp) which doesn't help. I'm not eating loads of rubbish - just can't get anything off. Also am sitting on my backside a lot as too tired to do owt.

poppy34 · 06/10/2008 17:38

amberc that looks like a really good idea - I do wonder where the 18 degree advice came from -that is BLOODY cold let alone for a baby.

and yes agree - think your metabolism goes into hiberantion mode when you're done in...

OP posts:
FiveGoMadInDorset · 06/10/2008 17:52

They are cute Amber, but DS seems to be going the same way as Edie and at the moment kicking off his blanket, he sleeps in a short sleeved vest and a body suit at the moment and the temp is 19 degrees at night and will get a lot colder. Just be careful about the mits as the hands and head are a way of letting excess heat leave the body and remember that don't go by how cold the baby's hands are it is their chest area, if that is warm then they are fine, they will let you know if they are too cold.

I am ridiculously excited and as my guests this weekend said I obviously don't get out much as my card machine has arrived and is in use and just taken my first deposit on the phone. Although we are busy for the next few weekends, including Sebastians christening.

Had a bizarre weekend, DH's nephew turned up, he is the step son of DH's BIL sho is being sentenced this Friday for fraud and forgery, we haven't seen him for 4 years so it was brilliant to see him again, his mother however seems to be not telling him anything and although he new that his step dad had been arrested he didn't know he had been to caught or anything, so he is a bit shaken up, he is coming back down in a couple of weeks and have a funny feeling we are going to see a lot more of him which will be lovely.

Ali I was feeling that way about the June thread, the year seems to have gone so aquickly.

Hello sybil yes you can still call that, How are you today? Try not to worry about Jamie, Sebastian goes through phases like this, his sister was greedy and drained the bottles whereas he is a bit hit and miss.

Poppy sorry to hear about the crying, we are off in 6 weeks so fingers crossed, nice of the captain though.

BDQ we have a CTF which my mother tops up and is doing OK at the moment, however the children will be told in no uncertain terms that they will not fritter it and will have to decide what they are going to do with it. I am seriosuly impressed with the exam taking.

Hello to anyone I have missed, it is now bath time so must go.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 06/10/2008 18:34

Also Amber if you are worried about the temp in the room, thos electric radioators that are very cheap to run are good, I knwo it is difficult but don't get your self worked up about optimum temps, DD's room used to be about 13 or 14 degrees and she is fine, as will Luke

ThePenguinProject · 06/10/2008 19:38

Amber - I got these today. Don't know if you already have them, but they may help Luke?

Fungle /Needahand / Essie / AliP - Thank you. I think Saturday was a sleep deprived melt down, I've been ok since, I'm sure being able to rant on here helps stop the mad thoughts from whirling round in my head.

AliP - I akways smell of baby puke now. Also does everyone else find the smell of their baby's dirty nappies, whilst not pleasant, quite comforting almost? (TMI alert, almost like your own farts...they're not exactly nice, but are perfectly bearable). Opps have I shared too much?

Dramaqueen - Knew the mention of ironing would get you back. I've got that £250 cheque for Ryder now so will watch your thread with interest.

Bloody hell Amber - I have no idea how you manage with so little sleep. You really are amazing, even if it really doesn't feel like it! Re: the 7 lb vs 77 lb, whilst I am still a fair bit away from my pre pregnancy weight, I worked out today that I've lost 42lb since I weighed myself whilst in labour...it was a very long labour, it was something to do to distract myself!

Essie - DH bought me a diamond ring that I really liked as a joint 30th birthday and "yay, you're pregnant" present last October. It looks like a snowflake, which unfortunately means that it's spiky and I'm too scared to wear it now because I'll scratch Ryder.

Phew - that was along post....

PiggyPenguin · 06/10/2008 19:51

I have an eternity ring. (boast boast!) dh bought it when pg with ds1 7 long years ago as we thought we wouldn't be able to afford one after. It is a very tasteful four stone diamond one. For my thirtieth I got a faberge locket which has pictures of ds1 and dd in - must try to fit Jamie in there somewhere!
