Thought I'd start the new thread using paro's suggestion

PP, I'm so jealous! FWIW I think going to NZ would be a fantastic move for Ryder - a much better place to bring up kids than England for a thousand different reasons. Our problem is our family - if we were both orphans it would be a no-brainer.

How long has your dh been over here? Which part of NZ is he from?

Lol at the sheep, countryside and funny accents - Essie will love that!

FiveGoMadInDorset · 25/09/2008 22:29

YOu can come done here PP next March and try the sheep thing, and we all speak with funny accenst down here

debinaustria · 26/09/2008 08:29

OMG the cameraman is here, I wasn't expecting to be filmed here this morning, thought he was just filming the boys in school, but at 7.00 he was filming the boys brushing their teeth, dh eating his porridge without his hair brushed and me winding Ethan after a feed whilst interviewing me about having a baby in Austria!!

Plus point of all this is that the house has never been and will never be this tidy again. So I'm taking lots of photos so that if we do sell we'll have a stockpile of photos for the house

Got to go and get ready for when he starts again, am all ready for the spa - with legs de fuzzed!! details!!

Neenztwinz · 26/09/2008 08:56

Hi all, long time since I posted so haven't been able to catch up... hope everyone is good.

I am fab, the twins are still as adorable as ever and are an absolute delight. They are 20 weeks old now, Theo rolled over last week (but hasn't done it since), they want to be entertained all the time... not so keen on their vibrating reliners now!! But I am enjoying the last few weeks of exclusive bfing and them not being able to move when I put them down. Won't be long till they are all over the place and I am up to my ears in pureed fruit and veg. Oh well, it will be a challenge.

ThePenguinProject · 26/09/2008 09:10

Yay MN's back! I wrote a long reply to you last night Sponge and the site went down . Basically saying that barring a HUGE redundancy payout or lottery win, the current plan is to emigrate in September 2013...! We'll be in NZ before Ryder starts school and with any luck we'll have another baby before then too. (DH's idea is to have two here and two there, but we'll see...)

Thanks for the invite 5gomad.

Good luck with all the filming Deb!

Hello Neenz. Please don't talk about weaning...it was being discussed here a few days ago, but my head is firmly in the sand on that one for a bit longer. BTW we need more pics of the twins.

Ryder slept from 9pm - 6am last night, had a feed and a play with a hungover Dad and then went back to sleep and is still asleep now. If only every day could start this well.... I have to go out in half an hour or so but am loathe to wake him.

He's growing so much I've changed the buggy set up, but it means he's not facing me anymore and I miss him! It may need to be changed back, not for his sake, but for mine.

katyjo · 26/09/2008 09:40

just popped in to say a quick cheerio, see you all in 2 weeks!

Neenztwinz · 26/09/2008 10:10

Yes the weaning thing is tough cos six months is too old for most babies but you can't get a straight answer out of the HVs cos they have to say six months. T+E are both still sleeping through the night so I am in no rush but it can only be a matter of time before they start waking up and when they do I am going to put them on solids, I don't care what the HVs say.

spongebrainbigpants · 26/09/2008 11:38

Deb, how exciting! Lol at dh not having brushed his hair!

Hi Neenz, good to hear from you. I wouldn't worry too much about weaning from now - your LOs are so close to 6mths anyway. I don't think the 6mths is a hard and fast rule, I think it's just there to encourage parents not to wean too early. We're also going to be led by Alex when he's ready for food.

PP, your dh has it all planned doesn't he?!!

fungle · 26/09/2008 12:00

Hello all. Crazy busy week here. Not really read through properly yet. DD still on silly school times and it was her 5th birthday on Wed so had to do a party etc. Mayhem!!
Big news on the Isla front. She had started waking 4-5 times a night, not always for food, just unsettled. By Wed I was so sleep deprived I had to resort to taking the dummy away for sleep. I think she was waking without it and needing it back. Result = she slept from 7 - 6.30 am!!!!!
Last night she woke once at 2.30, and then at 5.45, but got herself back to sleep. Im not thinking Ive cracked it, but it sure is a step in the right direction.
Needahand and GF, lets sort something out for in a couple of weeks, GF email me, of and by the way my SIL really apreciated reading through your email.
Its sunny! How lovely. Right of to get the big girl from school, have a good day all

aberdeenhiker · 26/09/2008 13:24

Hi, both boys are napping - thank goodness! I've been way too busy lately. When they wake up I need to go to the shops to get the paper because we're supposed to be featured in this week's home section. I had the photographer around on Monday and DS1 refused to smile Cleaning my house for that was bad enough Deb, you're very brave!!!

Fraser's longest sleep last night was three hours (so was his shortest, but that's besides the point!) so tonight we're going to really start the crying it out in earnest. I'm going to sleep downstairs and not feed him until 2am at the earliest (last feed at 8pm). We felt that he was too young for this but then yesterday when I was driving I realized that I was so tired that it wasn't safe - and that seems like the priority at the moment. Still, previous attempts to help train Fraser to sleep longer haven't worked that well, he is fine for a few nights then drifts back into early waking... fingers crossed.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 26/09/2008 13:51

katyjo have a nice time.

neenz we managed to get to 20 weeks with DD and to be honest she didn't eat a huge amount for the first couple of weeks just a teaspoon or 2 at lunchtime.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 26/09/2008 13:52

AH good luck with the sleep training tonight.

aberdeenhiker · 26/09/2008 13:56

thanks 5gomad.

neenz My HV basically said we could wean anytime after 17 weeks, not sure if that's because I'm a second time mum or not, but we're hoping to hold off until after we're back from vacation just to make life easier while travelling.

Amberc · 26/09/2008 14:46

Hi all. Going through a massively bored moment and need to post on MN as I have my credit card in my hand and was about to buy more clothes for a baby that has a larger wardrobe than DP and I put together. Luke's been playing on his baby walker and has learned to move around and can pick up some speed now. I have to keep turning him round though when he reaches an edge as he has not discovered backwards or turning yet! I bought one of those net thingies that you put fruit in that babies can munch on without threat of choking. I fully intend on using it when it's delivered even though it won't be 4 months. I already give Luke a bit of fruit to suck on every now and then and he loves it. I have to hold the end just in case and keep pulling it out to check he hasn't munched a piece off. Can see the white bits under his gums now so I want to give him something to help his teeth come through. I bought him a teether which he likes but he still prefers my knuckle! He's got one hell of a bite now little bleeder and it means my hands need to be scrupulously clean all the time and they are all dried out (handcream doesn't taste so good). Much as Luke can race around the living room on his walker he cannot even vaguely roll - isn't that funny? I don't know where he gets his energy from sa he hardly eats anything.

Aberdeen - I sympathise. Luke wakes for one feed at 3.30/4.30 and then gets up at 6.15 and he has his dream feed. He is nowhere near sleeping through and doesn't go more than 4 hours other than from 6.30-11.30 (typical!). He only has 120ml per feed in the day at the most and sometimes it takes an hour to get that into him so I guess he still needs the calories. Hopefully I'll have soe kind of breakthrough on solids whenever that may be. Every now and then I test him with a spoonfull of sloppy baby rice to see if it just comes straight out and so far it always has.

Aberdeen and Deb, can I please have your autographs? Now you are famous in print and on telly!

PP 9-6?!!

spongebrainbigpants · 26/09/2008 16:47

Amber, I'm intrigued by the net thingie! What is it, where do you get them from and how do they work?!

AH, good luck with the sleep training.

Amberc · 26/09/2008 17:05

Colors May Vary.

goingfor3 · 26/09/2008 17:13

I had an awful night last night. DS was screetching from 9pm onwards and just couldn't settle. He had a couple of feeds before 2 am and then nothing until 3.30 pm. I took him to the gp twice and of course when we where there he wasn't screaming! He hasn't had a wet nappy since 9am but am hoping that when he wakes his nappy will be wet as we have been told by the gp to go to A&E if he hasn't.

I complain if he feeds too much now I'm complaining he's on strike!!!!

Essie3 · 26/09/2008 17:16

LOL piece of meat!
Am I only finding that hilarious because I'm vegetarian? Or is it the idea of Iestyn gnawing on a bit of steak or a rasher of bacon whilst out and about which gets me?

spongebrainbigpants · 26/09/2008 17:19

Amber, thanks! What a clever device!

spongebrainbigpants · 26/09/2008 17:20

G43, how stressful .

josey · 26/09/2008 17:41

Just popping in having had a quick skim over

Debs hope filming went well.

AH will try catch up when you come back next week is mayhem have double appointments on Tuesday and Thursday along with the kids activities

Katyjo the sw basically said that they could help by arranging a sitter for Olivia when we wanted to go anywhere so we didnt have to take her with me Then said you will want the contact details for the special needs toddler group and left.

On the weaning as a 3rd time mum I have disovered that its not about them being hungry but here physical abilities also, I have obviously learned this due to having a disabled child that may not sit well on her own....this will cause problems with her having solids, where as her mouth is physically ready as she makes the right movements which develope about the 4months later in some children.....all this needs to be taken into account....learn something new with each kid I suppose!

Anyhoo Im hoping to find out this week about adding extra calories into Olivias milk as she is talking 4-5oz either off a spoon or a sippy cup, she doesnt take much more through the tube as she hurls everywhere, but its really not enough, but there is something they can do so fingers cross we will be tubeless soon.

Love to all from Josey and Olipops xx

poppy34 · 26/09/2008 17:53

quick skim through - going43 hope you get that wet nappy...

essie you welsh militant ... but do agree with you re the meat thing !!!

amber step away from teh internet shopping - I know what you mean re too many clothes..except it isn't me its dh that keeps buying. Should I be worried?

Reckon it must be food related with luke - am sure edie has got her dads pint guzzling gene whcih is what helps wtih her being able to sleep a bit longer (although as I've said before this a bit hit and miss .. she is still not great re settling - didnt go down til nearly 11 last night despite being tired but that may be to do with the jabs).

no swimming for us today as pool was broken -they're rescheduling but I'm beginning to think it might be me..but THE BUILDERS ARE FINISHING TOMORROW - we are having an official bathroom unveiling so I may wear a hat.

OP posts:
poppy34 · 26/09/2008 17:54

amber also won't solids help as will have more in his tummy therefore feeling of being full?

josey good to hear from you.

deb hope filming went well despite the surprise visit

Amberc · 26/09/2008 19:18

G43 - hope everything is ok...let us know. Sending hugs.

Sponge - yes it's a great little device but Essie - definitely no meat!! Very strange indeed! Thinking more apple or mango (his fave).

Josey - 4-5oz - lucky you! I struggle to get that down Luke's throat. He also refuses to have his bottle in my arms now and will only drink it sitting bolt upright which makes it more difficult with angles (unless it's the night feeds when he's only half awake and has the lot and lying down!). I bought him a cup today that the baby holds himself and I broke it within 2 minutes. There's a bit inside which seems to stop anything coming out so I cut it off. I think it's meant to control the flow and stop it leaking if tipped over - doh! Nearly choked Luke to death when Niagara falls came out so I've had to bin it. What an eejit .

Poppy - yes I imagine it's a calorie thing. Can't wait to wean him but can't even if I wanted to as he's not ready yet - hasn't worked out how to get anything from front to back of mouth. This will come with time but you can't force it. Been looking at the Beaba all in one steamer and blender and am mentally making puree as we speak! Luke does go to bed at 6.30 to 7 though. i could hardly get him to 6.30 tonight as he wore himself out on the baby walker! Videoed him to show DP - so sweet!!

josey · 26/09/2008 21:13

Amberec I use the tommietippy the oldfashion one that is meant to make a mess of your carpet!! You have to keep tipping it but it works quite well for us though does take a long time. Problem is she only feeds 4/5 times aday she is so sleepy with feeding now though. Does Luke have reflux that he wants fed sitting up? I remember reading some of you tried gaviscon, if you have tried that and it doesnt work there are a further 2 medications, Olivia takes 2 medicines twice a day and gaviscon! When the reflux is bad she becomes so tense she pushes herself so far upright she is looks like she could stand.

? to bottle feeding mums, how long is it taking to do a feed? Obviously Olivia has problems so the feeding takes a while but I cant remember how long the others took....I need to arm myself with info to back my case of getting rid of the tube.

Anyway the house is unusually peaceful so im enjoying a glass of vino watching Robson Green.

Have a good weekend.
