J2O · 13/10/2008 12:07

thanks FT-I keep trying to give her egg but she doesn't seem to like it, probably the texture. purees are good as she still can't chew properly due to only having 2 teeth!

FloriaTosca · 13/10/2008 12:39

Alex has only just got his 4th tooth ...he just gums everything to death or tears it to shreads with his hands
One way of serving eggs is a nursery food we used to love as kids that Alex seems to like too is a soft boiled or poached egg and a slice of (wholemeal)bread with lashings of butter both chopped up (quite a lot of chopping required)together in a cup so all the egg soaks in or binds with the bread and melting butter ... I add a touch of pepper too but it isnt necessary...messy looking but yummy.

Went to physio this morning with Anya for her check up, and they've signed her off! Therapist says that she's got no problems at all and is developing normally - she's got good alignment in her legs and feet (usually a problem) - she's even developing the arches in her feet which is unusually advanced. So we don't need to go back again unless we've got any particular concerns in the next few years.

I'm having a couple of revising days off work today and tomorrow. I was going to do a few phone calls though and drum up some appointments for next week - only to find out that my computer's not saved the notes from my Friday phone calls so I don't know who I spoke to. I hate working on a remote server, nothing seems to work as it should. I think I'm a bit pre-menstrual as I'm really irrationally annoyed about it. Deep breaths...

Don't have any advice on how to control runny poo. Hope Shannon's better soon J2O. Do you have a walk-in clinic or something that would see you sooner than Wednesday?

FloriaTosca · 13/10/2008 14:12

WWAJC;fabulous news!!!Both for Anya, great that she doesn't need any treatment and for you so you dont have to do all those perpetual, interminable, appointments. Sorry you are having computer problems, Dh has similar issues and gets frustrated and furious(with no pmt to cope with either)...hope you manage to get it sorted without too much of a headache.

Alice; I happened across a post you gave (not stalking you honest)to someone letting her child scream while she ate dinner and have to say I thought you gave the most supportive, balanced response on the thread (as someone else commented)Hope you are recovered from your flu type bug and good luck with the house sale.

I had a message from Buffy yesterday ...it seems that she can't believe a year has passed either..and she is very sleep deprived as neither Scarlett nor her sister sleep very well something she attributes to their medication. Consequently she doesnt seem to find the time to get on line and catch up with us, though she keeps intending to and in the meanwhile sends her love to you all.

Hello lovely ladies - sorry not been on much. Been a bit manic trying to get the house in a saleable state - it's now on the market - just need to get pics done for details and fingers crossed....

J2O sorry to hear you're so shattered honey. Not surprised if you and Shannon have both been unwell but great you are going to see doc even if you have to wait till Wed. Floria's advice is spot on about what to give her. Adam also has only 2 teeth but like Alex still manages to gum everything! Very different to Sam who retched on anything solid or lumpy for ages!

LES sorry you are still having a tough time with Karl - no magic advice from me I'm afraid but it sounds really tough and I'm thinking of you...

WWAJC great news on Anya! Thats fab! SHe is doing really well isn't she?

Ummm - can't remember what the rest of you have been chatting about but I have been reading and trying to keep up even when not posting.

Something else I wanted to mention - maybe Floria you will be best able to help? - I have a mate who is stuck in hospital for bleeding while pg. She's 28 weeks now and may well have to stay till she gives birth. She has a rare problem with her placenta - not placenta praevia but sounds like bits of her placenta are over her cervix so she bleeds intermittently. It's very rare apparently and so they are being extra cautious. She is in the hospital where I work so I have been going to visit as much as I can fitting around work. But I wondered if any of you who have been stuck in hospital like this can advise what I could do to really help? I have taken a couple of books. She has stuff from home like a duvet and pics and a laptop and is in her own room. I have asked and there is nothing she has said she needs but wondered if you have any bright ideas?

alicet · 13/10/2008 20:18

LES just reading this article about how you relate to your children influences how they behave. Think they're talking more about toddlers but wondered if you might find it helpful? Not calling you a toxic mum at all - I was interested to read it for how I relate to my boys because I think we probably can all do negative things without realising. See what you think....

LisaLessLumpy · 13/10/2008 21:03

WWAJC - Great news about Anya, you must be over the moon

LES - Sorry I have no clue about suggesting anything that may help but thinking of you.

J20 - Hope you and shannon are better soon.

I'm about to go to bed shortly, feel lousy, the cold I have had since friday has decided to get worse not better, and I am knackered due to early mornings (5-6am) and being woken 3-4 times a night since friday.

I am so not used to lack of sleep and again, those of you that have it on a nightly basis you have my complete respect.

Sam woke up and did nothing but throw up between 7-11am (managed to mess up two beds, two sofas and the rug) so I made an appt to see the docs and got a cancellation for 3.20pm, by midday he had made a miraculous recovery Ben has been fine which was good but have ended up having both of them at home today instead of nursery because sam too poorly this morning to do the drive to drop ben off.

Ben has been practising his walking this afternoon and he has really gained in confidence, he is now readily going from one piece of furniture to another and walking across the room without any encouragement and when he has done it he gives you a huge grin and claps himself

Right, off to bed xx

Les ? I am so sorry for your loss It?s so unfair as you?re having a tough time?

Dal ? good news re the counselling (I got the impression the dr didn?t want you to have it though??) You do have specific issues that could be causing some of your low moods. What the difference a man counsellor should make I?m not sure?? I totally agree with Alice in that 4 months should be a great time as the ad?s will have kicked in.

Apricot ? Happy birthday Huw!!

Alice ? Hoping your cold has got better x

J20 ? Hope you managed some sleep with your mum having Shannon x

Inzi ? I?d give her a try with crayons but just 1 or 2 and so long as you stay with her at all times let her have a go. Not all babies automatically put everything in their mouths?
As for the milk I shall slowly switch to cows milk over a week when Henry?s 1.

Inzi ? I echo LLL ?stop worrying!!!? we will all do things differently xxx
Henry has;
7.30 - 9oz bottle
9.30 ? 1 weetabix + small petit filous
10-12 - nap
12pm ? sandwiches cut small, fruit with water/juice in a tippee cup (finally he?s drinking out of one!!)
9oz milk ?doesn?t always finish this now though
1.30-2.30 ? nap
5pm ? pre dinner ?snackette? biscuit/grapes/cheese to keep him going
Today?s dinner was ½ fishcake, carrots and parsnip mash. Melon for pud
9oz milk (doesn?t always finish it though)
6/6.30 ?bed

I don?t puree anymore or really mash very much just cut up small whatever we?re having. He even has whole grapes now.

Mine/j20 ? I couldn?t give Ollie any snacks as he wouldn?t eat his meals, he?s the same now and if he?s hungry we always let him have fruit (he eats fruit like you wouldn?t believe) but whenever he has biscuits they just seem to fill him up. Henry is a totally different kettle of fish?!

LLL/J20 - am hoping the sickness/runny tummy is clearing?x
I'll come back tomorrow to tell all re my family's visit but let's just say it started with breaking 5 bottles of beer in the halloween isle of Asda 12.30 am on thursday morning and me trying to convince the assistant I wasn't an alcoholic

FloriaTosca · 13/10/2008 22:22

Inzi; have a fantabulous time!!!

LLL;oooh, deep sympathy, it is truly dreadful when they are so sick...dh and I got into a routine where he stripped the cot and remade it,while I stripped Alex and re-dressed him and while I settled Alex he shoved everything into the washer. Glad Sam is a bit better and hope you get to catch up on your sleep soon.

Alice; Your poor mate.. but at least she is being very closely monitored...computer and books are a definate must have ...a Puzzler book or braintraining... cross-stitch or knitting/crochet (plenty of time to practise if she has never done it before). As she is already in her own room she wont need the ear plugs that were the best things brought in for me. Manicure kit (pedicure would be a bit problematic if she is as big as I was)or beauty therapy/pamper kit (with smallish mirror). Having a writing pad and envelopes for letter writing to keep friends informed is also cathartic when frustrated stuck in the same 4 walls (or a diary to record events if she doesnt want to "share")....and chocolates! (if she hasnt got gestational diabetes like I did)...if I think of any more ideas I'll let you know...I hope everything hangs on in there for her and she gets safely delivered in due course without any dramas.

Off to bed now. Dh is away...heres hoping for a half decent night for once.[cockeyed optimistic emoticon]

J2O · 14/10/2008 07:42

morning all

inzi-i've ben using diarrolyte or whatever its called she doesn't seem to be dehydrated but i've been givng her a beaker a day just in case. Am excited for you re your holiday

Alice-hope your friend is ok hmmm, is there a sewing or knitting type kit you could maybe get her? probably boring i know, but at least it would give her something else to do apart from reading. um some DVDs to watch on the lap top. FT has the best ideas

well, i was awoken to a cot full of poo again this morning [groan] am pretty fed up of it now.

I'm at college today and need to go to shop to get some bananas and rice etc so better go get ready.

Have a nice day all xx

FloriaTosca · 14/10/2008 08:47

Inzi; at the risk of repeating myself, but, flat 7UP is, according to my doctor (who is also a paediatrician),just as good as Dioralyte, much more palatable and considerably cheaper...oh, and available at every corner shop, not just at pharmacies

J20; sorry Shannon is still suffering, and sorry for you too, having to keep cleaning it up. Hope the brat plan works for her today and renders tomorrows appointment unnecessary.

Well, sirs sleep pattern is not improving ..I can cope with a 20min feed at 11.30 but the 3.30 45min feed cripples me and if we try to move the first one earlier the second one shifts accordingly and so does wake up time which is 6.15 this week (it used to be a respectable 7.00)....don't know what to do to improve it, he's impervious to the sleep solution....I think I might have to move him back into our room so at least I can rest better between wake ups...

muppetgirl · 14/10/2008 10:10

Alice - I learned to crochet whilst heavily pregnant with Hen and became a one woman blanket making machine. You can do it whilst watching telly, listening to the radio etc. Crochet would be the best girlie to help as to which books, patterns ect as all I can do is rows!

If she likes psychology I have all the Ou's last years books for my introducing psychology course (dse 212) if she fancies them. She can do a bit of learning whilst in bed. (I realise this may not be her bag but they are there if she'd like them x)

I like floria's ideas though, she has the voice of experience Sorry to hear of your rubbish night's sleep floria. I agree with the moving Alex back into your room. If dh complains then maybe he should go and sleep in Alex's room!!

Well, having the family round was lovely but they do have a completely different routine to anyone I've ever met. My nephew is 3 (4 in Jan) and goes to bed around 10-11pm this is so he sleeps in till 9-10 the next morning as my sil doesn't like to get up early great when you're at home but when you stay at someone else's house I though it was etiquette to join in with whatever the house routine is? Ollie was being crippled by the late nights as he goes to bed at 7pm everyday (including Christmas day - nasty mummy!) he still got up at 6am in the morning as he's just wired that way. We took both boys to Warwick Castle -Nephew hasn't ever seen a castle - and it was a bit of a trauma as our nephew doesn't turn round to his name (at all -how weired?) so you have to go and chase after him as he doesn?t seem to even acknowledge you're there and he won't hold your hand, all of this we didn?t know till we got there!! I got firm and gave him choices 'Hold auntie Muppet's hand or we'll leave the gift chop, oh you won?t? Right, off we go....' and funnily enough he held my hand! He doesn't eat regular meals as my brother and sil don?t have a routine so he can get up and have 2 mouthfuls of muesli and that will last him till 2-3 in the afternoon. He?s certainly changed a lot since the last time we saw him?

Lovely boy but never been told no and has never had expectations in terms of his behaviour, eating etc so he does what he wants, when he likes. Have to say though, they had great fun and got on like a house on fire. Ollie loved him in his room and was sooooooooo excited when he arrived. Will go over to see them next year.

My brother looks well but is stressed about a deal with his company but then he?s always like that so nothing changes

Just off to study in the tidy kitchen whilst Henry naps. I am looking at the Strengths and weakness of the three theories of identities?..

Love to all
Xxxx

omg I sound like such a teacher in my last post

I'm not really so far up my own arse normally

Apricotle · 14/10/2008 12:29

Hi y'all

So sorry to hear of ill babies. It's so miserable and draining isn't it? We had a lovely party for Huw on Saturday and guess what? We've all been seriously sick since! OMG is every child in the country carrying this hideous bug? I had to miss work yesterday, which involved cancelling four hours teaching, so I'm now in catch-up mode right at the start of the year.

Have a great holiday Inzi - where you going?

WWJC - brilliant news about Anya . I'm so pleased for you.

Fingers crossed about the house Alice. Well done for getting it sorted. We've decided to probably stay put for the time being, which is a bit disappointing, but at least we don't have to make the effort right now

Huw walked halfway across the room the other day. Oh, it was so exciting! He's still largely crawling though. He got a pair of maracas for his birthday and loves to crawl around with one in each hand. Sounds like a rather limited one-man-band!

Muppet - you haven't told us about the broken bottles incident - or did I miss it?

Hi to everyone. Haven't got time to post properly. Hope you're all hanging on in there with you little just or nearly one-year-olds.

A x

...well we were waiting up for my brother and family to arrive when he phoned saying that he was hungry and what did I have in? I said I'd pop out and get something as Asda was open 24 hours. (it being half past midnight) He said Pizza, off I went. I got the pizza and then picked up some beer and then wandered down the halloween isle as it was quiet. Looking at the skeletons etc etc I dropped the 6 bottles of beer and they smashed I had to go and find an assistant. I embarrassingly told her what I'd done but then said 'Oh, I didn't break 6, I only did 5' as I carelessly waved the 6th bottle I still had in my hand. She just looked at me so then I said

'I'm not an alcoholic you know...'

(bury my head in the hole I'd just dug but did I stop??? NO!!! I carried on) I then rambled on to try to convince her I wasn't drunk which was awful as I did have the little voice in my head telling me to shut up but I didn't. I left her with the 6th bottle (I was still holding it) and went back to the beer section where the man who I'd seen earlier was still restocking the shelves gave me a funny look as I picked up another 6 bottles of beer.

I paid and on the way out saw about 5-6 teenagers walking into the store with no shoes on. By this time I had really convinced myself I was, in fact, stoned out of my brain as the half past midnight dash to Asda had seemed very surreal.

I then saw a woman unload her shopping into her car whilst her son who looked around 12 was sat on the passenger seat with his legs outside the car having a fag....

God I love Swindon

Hey all,

I have fallen behind as I was preparing for an interview today. It wasn't the one that I was waiting to hear about - still not heard from that one. It was another place but the interview did not go well. I just let nerves get the better of me and totally blanked on one question - I had to say 'sorry I have lost my train of thought' on one and then to another I gave the insightful answer of 'I don't know to be honest' - it was horrible. It was so bad it was almost funny - if I didn't so desperately need a job it would have been funny.

Have a good holiday Inzi!

WhiteWineAndJaffaCakes · 15/10/2008 17:57

Exam wasn't too bad this morning - think I did enough to pass. Nearly didn't get there though, decided to get the bus as exam was in Manchester and bus can get there quicker than car - except the bl**dy bus didn't turn up so I had to drive in on the last minute in rush hour traffic. Luckily I managed to park easily and legged to down the road to the centre with only 5 minutes to spare. Not the way to start an exam - I was so stressed!

Still suffering with pmt today - am feeling generally annoyed and irritable.

LLL - sorry you're having sleepless nights - hope you're feeling better now. Well done Ben with his walking - that's fantastic. Can't wait until Anya starts. She got an activity centre for her birthday and she's convinced it's a walker - she leans on it and shoves it until it moves. Problem is it keeps nearly tipping over (it's not designed to be pushed that hard) so I've just taken the legs off. Don't think she's noticed yet, but she's not going to be happy! I wouldn't mind but she has a walker

Inzi - have a fantastic holiday.

Apricotle · 15/10/2008 20:13

Nice one Muppet

Fingers crossed for the exam WWJC - what exams are you doing?

Likewise for the interview Stefka - it might not be as bad as you thought. I burst into tears on my way home from my interview for my current job because I thought it had been a complete waste of time. You never know.

Hope you have a great time in Tenerife Inzi.

Well we had a Wiggles Apocalypse here this afternoon. I put on the Wiggles (if you don't know, you probably will soon enough) for Huw, only to be what felt like literally hit by a wall of sound, unbelievably loud. Huw had only turned up the volume to teh max without anyone knowing. And the max is truly loud. Blew one of Dh's prized speakers. Apparently irreprably. Oh dear.

I'm having a sickness bug relapse and am feeling, not to mince me words, like shit. Am off to bed.

NIght all

x
