HarryJoesMummy · 12/09/2008 13:54

Hi everyone, thanks for the all advice earlier in the thread.

I tried out a couple of things suggested (not picking him up, reassuring with pats and sounds etc) and miracle of miracles on the third night he actually settled back to sleep in his own cot until 5.45am!! I couldn't believe it - felt so much better for having a proper night's sleep!

Sadly he is now cutting another tooth so we have gone a bit backwards, but only 3 more teeth to go and then hopefully we can all settle down to a better routine!

Thank you for all your help - you were sanity savers! I shall keep reading the thread and posting a bit more!

charleymouse · 12/09/2008 14:04

well done on the sleep front.

Bensonbluebird · 12/09/2008 14:34

Hello all,

What is this thread I've wandered in to? it has a very misleading title....

I've not wanted to show my face on mn for the last couple of weeks for fear that you could smell the festering piles of laundry all over the Bluebird household. Our washing machine died, but thankfully we now have a new one. DS1 pronounced it a splendid machine. I was just going to put in a third load of washing this morning when I found that we had no water! It is back on now though and the machine is working away. A few kind friends had done some washing for us and poor little A has come out all over in eczema, I suppose it must be the unfamiliar washing powder. he has always had slightly dry skin but nothing like this before.

Harryjoesmum - very jealous that you only have 3 teeth to go. I will have a party when A gets his last tooth through. He had been getting his first bottom molars through for months now.

A few things caught my eye on my marathon read through. TMAM (truly living up to your name at the mo!)I climbed Mt Kenya when I was 20, I'll gladly do it again. Also enjoyed your description of trying to explain planetary physics. DP tried to explain the relationship of the earth, moon and sun to DS1 with various bits of fruit. We had a very confused 2.5yr old refering to the sun as an orange for a while after that...

Jennyusedtobepink · 12/09/2008 14:37

How many teeth do they get in total? L has 12. We are currently awaiting the canines, which seem to be having a huge affect on her.

Bensonbluebird · 12/09/2008 14:38

20! A only has 8.

Bensonbluebird · 12/09/2008 14:39

At least you are more than half way.

I think the canines are sore because they have to squeeze down into the gap between the incisors and the molars.

Themasterandmargaritas · 12/09/2008 14:46

yes the canines are the worst, J now has all 4 just coming through and he is pretty miserable. So he has 16 in total. The last 4 (if I remember rightly) are the two back molars which come when they are about 2, 2.5 and are a nightmare. They ruined one holiday in Italy for us!

Great news Harryjoesmum! Well done, come and join us properly.

Benson, good to hear that you have experienced Mt Kenya already, and that you want to join my party of mad mountain climbers. This therefore means you will be the offical expert and Team Leader because I pulled a muscle walking the dog the other day.

Charley, wtf is an amontillado? Sounds delicious and I will happily join you in/with/making one.

Bensonbluebird · 12/09/2008 14:53

No problem if you supply courgette cake (is that the chocolate one? it's surprisingly delicious)

charleymouse · 12/09/2008 14:55

TMAM en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Amontillado

Have to confess to a swig snifter of amaretto last night out of the bottle . I don't normally drink either. Have had a drink on 4/5 nights this week now. must pull myself together.

Have just heard I have got my job! Now I have to actually do some work as have been seriously unmotivated sp? waiting for this crock of shit reallocation process to get sorted.

charleymouse · 12/09/2008 14:57

Hello, BBB I have just invested in a tumble drier, it has revolutionised my laundry. Used to have a combined washer dryer and it was pants, now have lovely separate ones and it is great. how sad am I.

Bensonbluebird · 12/09/2008 15:10

CM - I was actually jumping up and down with excitment at the thought of a new washing machine. V.sad too me!

Glad your day seems to be getting better

TheGreatScootini · 12/09/2008 19:11

I long for a tunmbe dryer but DH wont let me as they are a bit unenvironmental (whatever, says I) and he thinks they cost a million pounds to run.Better than freezing washing on the line in sub zero temperatures and having it just get cold, rather than dry..but then he doesnt do it I guess so he doesnt feel my pain

L has been back to her old ways today and has been a horror, (I knew not to trust her good behaviour ..am hoping is a blip)
The high point of the day was when she slammed M in the face with a Lego brick. She got a BIG telling off.Poor M has a bright red imprint of a lego brick on her face.It does not look good.

Have had a smooch with a newborn today though which was lovely.Broody moi? (came back to my senses following lego incident, natch)

TYG says she is coming Tenant gazing..(she is fine BTW).Final call before I book up..

The thought of going to work tomorrow is Not filling me with joy right now.I looked in the locals today for a more nearby job. There was one similar ish to mine, but it paid 11k last So much for that idea..

Bensonbluebird · 12/09/2008 19:46

Just heard on front row that Hamlet is booked up - surely that can't be for the entire run?

AprilMeadow · 12/09/2008 20:56

Dh still at work over 300 emails today and phone going non-stop

Supposed to go to Swindon tomorrow but he says he has to go to work

AprilMeadow · 13/09/2008 08:48

Dh got back at 9.45pm and is going back in this morning.

Going to head to Gun Wharf Quays today and go up the Spiniker Tower then possibly head to HMS Victory. Swindon will have to wait until tomorrow.

Poor Ella has woken in a grumpy mood this morning largely due to the fact her gums are swollen. Dosed up with calpol now so should help take the edge off it.

Pink, WOO HOO you have access to KK's now

Themasterandmargaritas · 13/09/2008 18:08

How did dh get on today April? Did you get a lovely view from the tower to LG&T's back garden?

Dh got back last night finally, only for us to entertain today one remaining couple, who are from Texas and who are slightly worried about their family left with the grandparents whilst they were here in Kenya. They managed to reach their eldest daughter who has been evacuated from her university in Houston to further upstate. All a bit scary. Anyway they have left tonight and will see when they arrive at Heathrow tomorrow, if they are able to fly into Houston or not. Meanwhile one other set of friends has had a tree fall on her house in Houston and another friend is not contactable, possibly evacuated. Can you imagine living like this every year? Poor people.

Dh had to go to a meeting at 6.30 pm with the MD of a large and international company, who is a muslim and is fasting (as it is Ramadhan) so wouldn't meet until he could break his fast at day's end. Leaving me with 3 kids, no staff, visitors, dc bedtime and preparing the visitors a light supper before they left for the airport. I beg of you, when do these men ever use their brains????!

AprilMeadow · 13/09/2008 18:21

Parts of the day were nice, ds was the devil child for the rest of it. Had a mooch round the shops and picked up one or two bargains. Told ds that he could go on the aeroplane ride if he was good so bought some tokens. Was good on that then wailed and kicked off when i said he couldnt go on the quad bikes. Struck a deal with him and eventually he went on. The wandered round the shops before going on up the tower. Was ok, but not really worth the £19 it cost for all of about 5mins (as that was as long as they would keep still for. Took dh's penpal with us and i could tell that she had had enough of the kids so headed back home. Honestly i dont know what to do with him. We take them to nice places try and do different things to keep them entertained and all he does is play up it makes me very &

Themasterandmargaritas · 13/09/2008 18:36

Tis normal, don't beat yourself up. Especially if he is a little tired or perhaps because you have had guests staying...

This'll make you feel better (or not!) ds1 got a new bike today as he had grown out of the old one. He is such an easy going sweet and polite wee thing and was very grateful. Dd, who has a very good bike, on the other hand had a massive jealous fit and threw a strop about 'its just not fair' and yelled at him constantly, trying to wheedle a way for her to get on his bike. So anyway she got sent to her room to calm down and her and mummy had to have a good chat about jealousy and how it is an ugly emotion, it is ok to be jealous but not to take it out on her brother who did nothing wrong. what will happen when she is a teenager?

Little swines do they not appreciate anything we buy/do for them?

MKG · 14/09/2008 17:19

Hello all. just listening to the tumbleweed fly through.

charleymouse · 14/09/2008 21:59

Evening all, hope you are all AWOL as RL is being good to you this weekend.

DH has used both the washing machine and tumble drier today

Obviously he needs something ready to take away with him but still hoorah! He also folded the washing, it is still in the kitchen mind you.

He couldn't believe how long it took to get out and fold up (was mostly DDs stuff and boy does she know how to get through clothes)

Anyway after that bombshell just clicked today if SOH or anyone else did want to get in to CP (Elvedon) this week we have a 3 bed villa and only 3 of us. Would cost nothing for 3 people over 2 to be admitted. I would need to know to ensure you were registered but you could be staying in our villa.

Well the offer is there and if anyone fancies it let me know, don't feel obliged to see me whilst you are there am quite happy to sign people in see them/not as the case may be.

Will take lap top so can stay in touch but if anyone gets in touch re signing in but I don't reply LG&T has my mobile number.

April know what you mean DD has slow timed me all day today but she is in bed now and I think it is just excitement about a few days away.

TMAM Tsk men, although can't complain today as DH ha done washing.

MKG it just rolled on by me as well.

cravingaquietlife · 15/09/2008 08:18

Morning lovely ladies!

CM have a lovely relaxing time, you deserve it. x

largeginandtonic · 15/09/2008 09:48

Ooooooh i'm back

DH back to work, children all at school and house still reasonably clean. Now what can we talk about?

AprilMeadow · 15/09/2008 09:53

Morning all

Well yesterday we went to STEAM, the Great Western Railway Museum in Swindon and then to the shopping centre. Jack was fairly good but did have his moments. Got home and he decided to draw on the walls with a pencil in the lounge. I lost my rag and told him that he wouldnt be getting any milk that night. Now normally we give in for an easy life but last nigth we actually for the first time stood by our threat! He was sobbing for an hour about how he wanted to be good and that he wanted milk etc etc. We were very strong and explained why he was not getting it. I then read him some stories and at the end of the 2nd one he apologied and said that if he was good tomorrow (today) would he be allowed milk, so i said yes and then he said sorry for drawing on the walls and gave me a kiss.

We are very pleased we stood by out threat as we know we can do it

largeginandtonic · 15/09/2008 10:06

Well done AM! It is horrid sticking with it, sepecially when the whinging gets unbrearable. It will pay off in the end. Your children lead such exciting lives, mine are thrilled with a walk on the beach

Have a fab time CM, sadly we are going nowhere this month. The car exhaust has rusted through but no pennies to fix it till next month! Luckily the kids are all walk to schoolable now!

We have the twins in localish school (about a mile walk) and the other two are in the local schools. Hooray! I am SO unfit though, the walking nearly killed me last week! Still all good for the giant behind i am growing, tis shameful.

How are the rest of the pregnant ladies doing? How many weeks are you all? I am 23 today! Too fast...

JamInMyWellies · 15/09/2008 10:39

Morning all,

well done AM for sticking with it although bloody hard at the time you will reap the benefits long term. When I nannied it was the most frustrating thing ever when you would discipline a child then the parents would come home promise to carry it through then cave after 5 mins.

LG&T lovely to have you back cant believe you are 23wks already I am 28wks I am sure by this time round with A we had decorated his bedroom and had nearly everything we wanted. We have not done anything this time round apart from get our pram and that was only by accident.

CAQL how are things any movement on the house.

Charley have a lovely time at CP.
