DD understands every bloody word. If I say "right I'm off to get ready, she runs to the bottom of the stairs rattles the gate and shouts "bath".

Am going to get a baby signing DVD I think Natty. DD struggled wiht nose for a while, but we always press her nose and say "beep beep". After 5 minutes of "where's your nose?" and me starting to think she couldn't get it, DS asked "where's your beep beep?" and she got it first time . she now presses everyone's nose and will keep at it, pressing harder and harder until she gets a beep beep!

they are funny little things aren't they?

Sputnik · 30/08/2008 21:32

Nice one Izzy

Natty that is soo cute of your DD. Less cute of your DS though, or your DH for that matter. Hope you send him to bed with no dinner too

Izzybel · 30/08/2008 21:33

We had a lady come in to talk to us at M and B group, about baby signing. I swear to God she belonged on Ceebeebies! Had one of those "special talking to children voices" IYKWIM. The baby signing was really good though!

LackaDAISYcal · 30/08/2008 21:33

Oooh natty, that would be good

I'll FB you my address.

NattyThomasAndEllen · 30/08/2008 21:35

ah my teacher is like that izzybel, u have to kinda get past that lol, kids seem to respond to it though the "talking to them like they are puppies" it does make me laugh, my tutor says "come on then" like u would say to a dog!

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 30/08/2008 21:35

We have a baby signing book. Maybe I should get it out?

Izzybel · 30/08/2008 21:38

Lol, although no one would be if they saw my horrible, saggy, stretch-marked muffin-top!

Izzybel · 30/08/2008 21:39

Natty she even talked like that to the mothers! Pmsl

Izzybel · 30/08/2008 21:41

Maybe they get special training in how to do it. I should sign up then maybe I could get DD to listen to me!

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 30/08/2008 21:43

Thought of you this afternoon Daisy. There was an Usborne books stall at the festival. Didn't buy anything though, thought I would wait and buy anything we want from you!

NattyThomasAndEllen · 30/08/2008 21:43

lol izzy, perhaps!
i tried the "peppy" approach with ellen. she just raised her eyebrows at me

LackaDAISYcal · 30/08/2008 21:52

Aw jammy thanks
A friend of mine ordered one of the "touchy feely" range for her nephew and it came yesterday; it's lovely

Right, I must love and leave you all.......night

They must have something on at our local park. A MASSIVE fireworks display (was wish I'd been able to see it properly) and woke Jamlet. I went up to her and took her some milk (she hadn't had any at bedtime as she'd been too tired) and we stood and watched some out of the window. They were amazing!! Loads of loud music and crowd cheering and laser lights too. She seems to have gone back to sleep now though

Bumperlicious · 30/08/2008 22:15

If we say to DD "where's your big fat belly?" she lifts up her top and clutches her tummy , not sure it's the best thing to say to her!

Natty any chance I could have a copy of the DVD too? I would paypal you the cost. I keep getting books from the library and not using them. I then bought a couple of books from Mini IQ but was really disappointed by how little they had in them. DD just laughs when I try the few signs I know, the only one she learnt was "all gone" holding both hands out and now she signs it for everything vaguely meaning "what the bloody hell is going on here?". My email address is bumperlicious . mn @ hotmail .co .uk.

There was a thread on here a few weeks back listing all the things posters' 15mos were saying. It was very demoralising! Brings out the competitive parent in me .

Izzybel · 30/08/2008 22:17

DD is sleeping like um...a baby atm. She didn't have a nap today so she was knackered by bed time!

Bumperlicious · 30/08/2008 22:20

What is your 15mo saying?

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 30/08/2008 22:21

I daren't read that Bumper. Anyway I'm off to bed now. Night all.

Izzybel · 30/08/2008 22:21

lol, Bumper! There was a thread a few days ago (I didn't post on it) asking what other 14 week olds were doing. Apparently the OP's was sitting up blah blah blah and feeding himself with a spoon I think DD had only just started opening her eyes at that point!

Bumperlicious · 30/08/2008 22:28

It's so silly to get worried over these things isn't it? It's hard to remember that in a few years they will all be doing exactly the same things and whether your DCs said "tractor" at 10 months or 20 months, it's highly unlike they'll get to 17 without being able to say it . Me and another mummy friend do it, subconsciously, and to to be horrid to each other, but just can't help it "look XXX is feeding herself now, watch her", "oooh, DD can say 'duck', go on DD, 'duck', say 'duck', say 'DUCK' DD - she usually says it!" they are like performing seals bless them. It's more like "look, DD is putting her fingers in XXX's mouth", "oooh look, DD has trodden on a piece of toast and now XXX is eating it" .

Right off to bed, night all

Izzybel · 30/08/2008 22:51

My nephew, although he could say lots of recognisable words and had a good vocab, could never say his Rs and struggled with different sounds. For eg: green trees were vween cheese and he fwied when he fell on the bwass instead of cried when he fell on the grass. Now, at 9 years old, his speech is just like any other 9 year old child.

It is quite funny how competitive parents can be. It upsets me sometimes. My friend's DC has done everything before dd. Rolled over first, sat up first, took steps first etc etc and I'm forever saying isn't x clever or well done x, but when DD does it she doesn't get a well done off x's mum coz x "did that ages ago!" It's really sad and silly that it bothers me, but at times it just makes me think grr! When DD actually does something that x hasn't done I find myself thinking "heehee x hasn't done that yet!" It brings out a horrible side to me that isn't really me IYKWIM and I HATE it! All children are different and just because they do x, y and z at such age doesn't mean that they will be geniuses.

NattyThomasAndEllen · 30/08/2008 23:12

couldnt agree with you more, i have a friend who does that, her son is so clever ya de ya de yada. thomas is delayed due to his autism, he finds speech hard, and certain behavioural things he has only got to grip with recently. but instead of being happy for me that thomas is happy and catching up to children his age, she says "oh hugo did that ages ago" and more so than with other children she should say "well done" cos it REALLY is an achievement when he has struggled for months to say Ellen properly.

so izzy

i fully sympathise!

Izzybel · 30/08/2008 23:18

It's ridiculous isn't it! All I want is a "well done DD!" Goddammit!

How is Tom doing btw?
