OMG - I need help girls... I've been asked to take either 4 5month old kittens, 2 18month old cats or a litter of 5 kittens (ages unknown)

With the 4 5month old group I would be expected to find homes for them myself - I would be nuts to take that on wouldn't I? Surely?

justkeepswimming · 27/08/2008 14:16

unless you know likely people who'll take them then yes you'd be taking on a big job.
the 18mo olds will still act like kittens and prob need socialising so would be the 'neediest'
the litter of kittens may be v young and shouldn't have probs finding homes?

LuckySalem · 27/08/2008 14:24

Yeh probably make more sense to take on the young ones with rescue backup rather than the young ones without it.

The 18 month old cats are currently living in a family situation with 2 other cats but the owners have been posted abroad.. so they need a new home and that's pulling at my heart strings.... I've got to listen to my head not my heart.

Hi ladies.
Well the maize was great fun if a little confusing. You had to collect bits of a treasure map as you went round and crossword clues to do with pirates. You found the treasure chest at the end and the kids got a bag of sweets for finding all the bits of the map It took about and hour and a half to walk round and was great fun.
We slung George so he had a bit of a sleep while we were walking round. ds4 was a bit moany as it was alot of wlaking but dh carried him on his shoulders for a bit.
Yes justkeepswimming George did pull himself to standing. He did it at my parents at the weekend too on their sofa. Hes way earkier than the other boys but I think because he sees them running and walking he probably thinks 'I'll try a bit of that'.
Well off for my shower now.
Takr care all xx

Evening all

DS is off colour today. Has been very sleepy, whingey and lethargic. He feels hot to me but doens't seem to have a temperature. I only have one of those fever strip thingies to go by though. Has scoffed his bottles and meals as usual though so can't be too serious I guess. Apart from the odd sniffle he has never been poorly before so I can't help but fret! (am a worrywart and a mild hypochondriac when it comes to my own health never mind others!). Could this be teething? He was definitely teething earlier in week in terms of dribbling and chewing on stuff, but not so much today.

He had a right paddy on the scales at clinic today and did a big wee fountain all over the HV . Weight - 23lb 2 at 30 weeks .

LaTrucha · 27/08/2008 20:53

Hi Gingeme - glad maze was good. Must be a shock to see you LO standing by himself!

Sounds like it could be teething to me Ange, or a bit of a cold. For waht it's worth, my forehead thermometer seems to me to measure a bit too hot.

Has anyone found a reliable thermometer. I bought a Calpol digital one but it seems awful to us. We have tried taking, say, three readings to see how to use it and we get three completely different readings. And it cost £30 too! (although I got it with Boots points)

madmouse · 27/08/2008 20:54

Hi Ange

i would not put lethargy and sleepiness down to teething, but quite possibly to an innocent virus. it is indeed a good sign that he is eating but keep an eye on him and make sure his responses are normal, ie not drowsy. Am with you on worrying though, very good at it .

madmouse · 27/08/2008 20:56

I use my lips as my hands are unreliable due to poor circulation and i am normally pretty accurate. Also Nathan seems to have cold hands and warm feet when he has a temperature. i find that if I really need to know nothing beats a good old rectal measurement with a digital thermometer.

LaTrucha · 27/08/2008 21:05

I use my lips too! I was taking a rectal measurement but the paediatricain told me not to as it was 'invasive'. . It made Sabela giggle!

madmouse · 27/08/2008 21:11

gggg, must have been invaded a lot as a child, can't say it harmed me. Would love one of those ear ones that doctors use, but they cost a fortune.

justkeepswimming · 28/08/2008 06:58

woohoo - 2 nights in a row 7-6

got visitors, drank too much, head hurts
first hangover in years, actually it's not a bad one, just not used to it!

Isabellasmam · 28/08/2008 08:12

LT - lol at your dd giggling at rectal thermometer.

Angechica - your ds is huge . dd was weighed this week and is 17lb 4oz at 30 weeks. what was his birth weight?

Ok, I have a weird question but what is your LO's poo like? When dd went onto solids it changed from mushy baby poo to more solid lumps that (ensure you we didnt do this) you could pick up. Now for the last 7-10 days it has returned to mush. She also goes vvv frequently, atleast 6 times a day and normally after every meal/bottle as appose to 3-4 times every other day. I wouldnt say the quantity at each nappy was smaller either. Shes eating and drinking normally and it doesnt seem to be bothering her. Is this normal?

LaTrucha · 28/08/2008 08:36

For the first few weeks on solids, Sabela went as much as your LO. She does less now but more at a time. I put it down to bananas. Sometimes it is quite solid but sometimes lately it has been quite like clay - which is a bit disquieting.

Shocking night last night. Sabela had wind. I'm not sure what would have given it to her as she had nothing new recently. If she hadn't done a big bloww off every time she woke I think I would have gone mad. Instead I felt sorry for her. I actually thanked God for farting noises!

gingeme · 28/08/2008 09:07

Ha ha ha thats exactly what I said about George last night. I went in to check on him as I was getting my heirdryer out for my shower and he turned over and did a massive fart, sighed and went back to sleep. Just like Daddy
A sort of good night last night. He woke at 3.30 for a bottle. Took quite a while to settle but then slept till about 6.45 so not too bad I guess.
Were buying ds3 a new school bag today. I took his spare clothes out of his old one and it had one of his cartons of milk in from way back in July. It was disgusting and smelly. Tried to wash the bag but it still smells of off milk so will get a new onw.
Swimming this afternoon too.
Re pooh Georges varies from what he eats though usualy its pretty loose. Some days he has just two poohs some days every nappy is dirty
at justkeepswimming. Hope your heads better

justkeepswimming · 28/08/2008 09:47

sorry for posting twice - ds1 got involved and tried to help!

head fine now, was in the minor leagues of hangovers really, just such an odd experience for me

re poo - depends on what he's eaten really, sometimes it's more like the 'milky' poos of before solids, others it's far too grown up for my liking!
clay type poo can be blueberries -watch they don't eat too many!

messed up today and feeling bad - there's a vague playgroup thing on a thurs morning, not many people go, and a friend has just moved into the area and i got her along last week. just her (+2), me (+2) and one other (+2). i know the other isn't going this week, and i've got visitors so not going. meant to text her and let her know but forgot last night
just got a text from her, leaving now, see you in 5. oops.
have had to say i'm not going. she'll prob be on her own so now i feel extra bad
have invited her round this afternoon instead...will get cake!

madmouse · 28/08/2008 09:47

at all the poos! Nathan does one every three days or so. Mind you, he does give new meaning to the expression filling a nappy

He was a bit unsettled last night, but hey had jabs so ok, resettled him at 9 and 10.30, then he mewled again at 12. Thought ok, won't feed him, just cuddle but he kept crying and waking. I was tired and sore after dentist and was getting quite upset. Dh came in to help, picked him up and said 'he wants to feed, look he is trying to get at you', so gave in and he fed for all of three minutes before happily settling to sleep. I told dh 'that's it, he will be snacking every two hours now'. dh, knowing when tired wives get dangerous just said ok. We went to sleep at about 1.

3am madmouse awake, no baby
4.30 madmouse awake, lots of the usual insane sleep noises from the nursery
finally crying, what time is it? 5.45!

might get there yet. dh talked a lot of sense, saying we have never had to force him to do anything yet, he will sleep through when he is ready. when he wakes cuddle first, but if he wants to feed feed. If he carries on we give him a night bottle.

ok, off swimming when Nathan wakes from his nap.

Curious though, how long after baby sleeping through did you sleep through (especially bf mums, those things get blardy uncomfy if not emptied)

LaTrucha · 28/08/2008 10:24

MM - I too was awake staring at a peacefully sleeping baby for a large amount of last night. . LAst night it was because she woke up so frequently between 8 and 1. that I think my body just gave up. Thank goodness I had gone to bed at 9pm so I at least got a couple of hours before.

My DH is much like yours - and very sympathetic on the no-sleep front (although I, too, think there is no point in two people being knackered and tend to do all night stuff myself). His view is, we taught her to wake every two hours when she was tiny (because we had to feed so frequently) and all she wanted to do was sleep and insists on being mightily impressed if she goes for 6 hours between 7.30 and 1.30. BTW, do you have a weaning plan? Has Nathan had a bottle yet?

Oh. and it's the ear one we've got, but I really think it's dodgy. I did look up a medical supplies site and they're around £25. Might just stick with the, ahem, old-fashioned method.

JKS - Hate things like that! But it does happen. Just have nice cake at the ready! Glad you're getting some good nights ATM.

Gingeme - LOL at the milk bottle. I'm sure I remember doing this sort of thing when little. It can be a nice surprise when it's an old toy you thought you'd lost! Hope you get a good bag. I'm sure DS will be very happy!

Just bought a LOAD of 6 month+ toys from ebay. I hope she likes at least a couple of them!

betterhalf · 28/08/2008 11:17

Anybody got a date through for the 7 month HV check yet, or already had it? Just wondered what it entailed. Apologies if it's already been discussed. I find it hard to keep up with you chatty ladies!

LaTrucha · 28/08/2008 12:07

I thought it was 9 months, or at least it is in Wales. I don't think it's too scary. We did mention it before. I think someone said it was things like, do they pass objects from hand to hand etc.

betterhalf · 28/08/2008 12:55

Thanks . Its 7 months where I live. Although he will be just over 8 months by the time of the appointment as its come through for the end of September.
Sorry I didn't pick up on the convo about it earlier.

AngeChica · 28/08/2008 13:40

Sorry MM my sleep is still generally rubbish even though DS generally sleeps 11 hours nowadays. It never used to be pre preg - I loved my 8 hours! DH not a good sleeper though and he can disturb me with his tossing and turning and then I can't get back to sleep.

DS still the same today. 'Tis just a virus I reckon. We had a rough night with him. I still thought he should get some fresh air so walked to Tesco and he cried big time in the shop, all the old dears clucking over him, I felt like a right "bad mother"!

DS weighed 10 lb 14 at birth Isabellasmam, always been a whopper. NB did you see my message I am also in NE (just north of Newc). Re poo: on solids it is really variable - a rainbow of colours and textures . He does the occasional half brick which took me aback at first!

fillybuster · 28/08/2008 14:24

Ange - I'm the same as you...T sleeps for about 13 hours a night but I'm generally up from about 4.30am onwards....its soooo frustrating, especially since I know I'll be shattered when we get up at 8am (Sorry, massive apologies to those who are thinking at 8am!)

Ugh. Brain gone blank...finally read everything and now can't remember any of it...sorry! Have ds' 3rd birthday party on Sunday, Thomas cake is now assembled and in the freezer (but not iced/decorated yet, which will take about 4 hours on Sat night) and I've got tons to do. Will do a proper catch up when my brain starts working again...

Hugs to all, congrats to Katy ...and fingers crossed for Nathan to follow suit! xxx

LuckySalem · 28/08/2008 18:09

Hi all,

8 month check was done for Aaliyah yesterday (at 7 months 2 weeks ) they checked her eyesight, development and wanted to check her hips but she became as rigid as a board and she's so damn strong the HV couldn't check but she asked if she was walking etc and when I said yes she didn't seem to worried about hips.

Hope that helps whoever asked.

LuckySalem · 28/08/2008 19:20

Been told Aaliyah is going to need a new car seat in about a month (apparently she has to change car seats at 9kg) but I have no idea which one to get. It's driving me crazy and I'm skint which doesn't help.
