Betterhalf I came to the point that i was really keen to get him out of my space into his own. But it has not always been thus and to be honest some months ago i would have been to afraid of the seizures returning to let him go.

It helps to have the movement/breathing sensor. We did not take it on hols, but now he is alone we have switched it back on for a bit.

Just bite the bullet!

Lilyloo · 25/08/2008 21:37

JKS wow dp and ds would love a meerkat albeit a little one

LuckySalem · 25/08/2008 21:37

I'm not stressing but we REALLY need to finish DD's room so she can move out but its not happening. We're both so lazy!!
Anyone got any tips for motivating yourself?
I've gotta empty the spare room and decorate DD's room within the next month and I REALLY can't be bothered. I can never find the energy or "want" to do it.

Also - What are those who are planning on having another DC doing with things that aren't needed anymore? Moses basket, steamer, clothes etc?

justkeepswimming · 25/08/2008 21:39

a TOY meerkat

let me make that clear!!!
a teeny tiny plastic one

Lilyloo · 25/08/2008 21:40

Betterhalf i sometimes think we build things upso much with our lo's ie. any milestone however major/minor then when it comes it's nothing like we imagined!

Ange guess it just small steps so cuddle by cot , then in cot awake but with you cuddling through bars and so on.

It is good to teach your dc independance so don't feel bad.

Where is Gingeme haven't seen her for a while ?

betterhalf · 25/08/2008 21:40

Thanks MM. we've got to have new carpet put in there first ( which I've been delaying ordering), so I will get it ordered tomorrow, and will bite the bullet. I know it will be better for us all. DH must be covered in bruises with me prodding him HARD when he starts snoring so that he stops quick and Toby doesn't wake up. Have to say I will miss the causing DH physical pain though. Hehehehe. Will have to find another reason quickly

justkeepswimming · 25/08/2008 21:41

yes was thinking hadn't heard from gingeme for a bit - where are you? hope all ok.

if he snores, you can still poke him!!!!

betterhalf · 25/08/2008 21:41

And thanks Lilyloo. I think because he's going to be my one and only I am anxious to get it all right with him.

betterhalf · 25/08/2008 21:43

Thanks JKS will take your advice. Poor DH. [evil grin and cackle)

Lilyloo · 25/08/2008 21:44

ooh Betterhalf saucy

Lucky maybe set yourself a list of things then tick them off day by day. And report back to us we can give you shove in right direction. Do you need to order any furniture if so the delivery date might spur you on.
Keep everything it's been great this time with dd we have been able to treat her to other things . jumperoo , bf glider chair as we had all stuff from other dc's.
Make sure you pack it all well though to store.

LOL JKS thought you had enough on your hands already although can imagine they are good entertainment value!

OP posts:
LuckySalem · 25/08/2008 21:47

I've tried lists and it does make me do the normal housework but its not helping to sort out these 2 rooms. grrr.

I want to keep them but I don't know whether to put them in the attic or not? Worried they may become stale.

Oh and I've thought of another question. When do I have to change carseats?

Lilyloo · 25/08/2008 22:22

When their head reaches top of seat.
I have kept things in the loft but just packeaged them well and most have been fine. But if you can wash first in case of any hidden milk stains which will go mouldy if stored!

OP posts:
LuckySalem · 25/08/2008 22:26

Ahh I see. I'll get a bit more use out of carseat then. Thank god cos I'm skint lol...

AS for storage - I'm sure I can do that.

Thanks Lilly

Evening ladies. Nice to know I was missed
We had no internet on Thursday and we have been away to my parents from Friday till this afternoon but we are home now.
Had a lovely weekend. We went to Margate on Saturday and George got his forst taste, quite literaly, of sand. He had a wonderful time on the beach as did the other boys. The bath was full of it that evenig after we had finnished showering them off Sunday we went to a massive car boot sale near where my parents live which I absolutely love and I got loas of 9-12 month clothes for George ready for Autumn/winter though some of it would probably fit him now.
Home again to do lots of washing and stuff but hey its good to be home.
Well off to bed now will try to pop by tommorrow after weve filled the fridge and that kind of thing xxx

Kelix · 25/08/2008 23:15

Hiya everyone

Busy weekend here been to see the inlaws (well DPs mum & dad - not quite inlaws) today and had a nice walk around hollingworth lake and DD had her first ice cream. Good day in all

Missed far too much now to catch up but a couple of things:

Carseats - Mune says its suitable from 0-13kg but the next one up says from 9kg so was alittle confused myself! Lilyloos answer seems to make sense tho.

Own room - DD has been in her own room for 2 weeks today! Was very very unsettled for the first week but am chilling a little now. She does still stir in the night but think that has a lot to do with teeth. Think the best thing to do is decide on a date and stick to it. It has to happen eventually.

Anyway think I best get off to bed. Will try to keep up from now on

bluebell82 · 26/08/2008 09:08

hello everyone- sorry to hear some of you are still struggling with night time get ups. Ruby has been in her room for since she was 5 months, she was too excitable for her moses basket (gutted ending up spending £150 on a fancy one) she was moved to a travel cot in our room after 2 weeks! Ruby likes a quick and speedy bed time routine, we bath her in the morning she has connected it with get up time so we don't bath her and she has her 'bedtime' bottle at 4pm she doesn't want one before bed, hv said it was funny how she dropped the one bottle babies tend to hold onto! We take her up to the nursery and change her puther in her sleeping bag and then we have a tree of life on the wall, I have attached a link for you to see, it is massive and you can move the stickers around to make it more interesting, we have a chat about the day and say good night to all the animals on the tree of life. Put her in her cot and put her mobile on only for 30 secs as she gets stressed because she literally turns on her side and goes to sleep within 3 mins! She stays that way for 13hrs! She tends to wake up and says hello and sings to the tree of life for about 30 mins before she wants her milk gives me a chance to get a shower!

I made sure that during night feeds when ruby was younger that I bf her in bed and didn'talk or make loads of eye contact , I would change her bum and then put her straight down she used to go straight back to sleep, but Ruby only really woke twice in the night at the most and slept through from April even though she was still being bf so I think that some babies just sleep more than others, she only has 20 mins cat nap in the day one about now (looks over my laptop and is sleep!) and one about 2.

We used the 10 min cry out system, which to be honest works for us as she only cried for the first 3 nights and then accepted that cot meant bed, she won't go in her cot in the day though so I suppose she associates it with night time.

I never used to pick her up after ten mins I just used to go in not speak but put my hand firmly on her chest so she felt safe, worst night was 40 mins of doing this but then she just accepted it!

madmouse · 26/08/2008 14:08

oh well that night is best forgotten swiftly , at least dh is sleeping through now ( what is the point of two sleep deprived people after all) and I think I sleep better in between wakings if that makes sense.

Bluebell how are you feeling? Very of Ruby's sleeping . Funny I was just looking at that tree in the BM catalogue yesterday. Have asked dh to draw a Winnie the Pooh mural for me to paint in. He is handy like that. Maybe a while before it happens though.

Nathan has finally had his third set of jabs this morning so we are up to date now. He has been asleep for the last two hours, variously on my lap, sofa, shoulder and now sofa again. The nurse in our practice is ace , she gave Nathan an empty jab box to play with and talked to him. he did not even notice the first jab, gave a little cry at the second but cottoned on with the third and followed her very carefully and cautiously as she changed legs. Then when she approached him again with some cotton wool he nearly launched himself of my lap 'oh no here she comes again ', but gave her a big smile before we left. Hope he won't be too grumpy. Not so scared of fevers anymore now.

Hope Lilyloo is getting on ok camping.

Good to see you again ginge. Need you on here, you JKS and Lily add so much experience for new mums like me!

gingeme · 26/08/2008 14:40

Thankyou madmouse nice to be appreciated. A bit bewildered with Georges eating habits. He will only eat pureed jars have tried sneaking the odd lumpier one in but he just gags and cries yet he will happily eat a rusk, rice cake even toast with no choaking . ds4 was the same so we started giving him more of what we eat and didn't buy that many jars after a while
Still doing well on the diet. Had a couple of naughty chocolate moments while we were away but then we were having a meal with my parents to celebrate our anniversary last week and my parents today.
I did actualy have two people I havn't seen for a while comment I look slimmer.
George is much more settled at night now. He wakes at 3.30 for a bottle. Straight back to sleep till 7ish. Much better. Will keep me in good stead for when ds3 goes back to school in a couple of weeks.
Well best go, off to the library now. xx

fillybuster · 26/08/2008 16:50

Hi girls

Not caught up yet as have only just found the new thread (nice title ) but am I missing something or is there no link from the old one over to here? Can someone clever stick one on, or is it now too full?

OK, am now going to scroll all the way back and try to get up to date. Went away for the bank hol weekend to a self-catering cottage in Shropshire, had a lovely time and got to spend a whole day with my grandparents who live in Cheshire. They came over to visit us, for a change, and we got to take them for lunch and have tea in the cottage gardens with them....and both dc's were impeccably well behaved all day....hurrah!!

Am now in the middle of my first attempt to make ds' Thomas birthday cake. Have been having nightmares about this for weeks, so in a way its a relief to finally be baking...!!!

fillybuster · 26/08/2008 17:16

Still catching up...but so far...

Poltesco - you can't admit this on MN, but if you want one that's for long range (eg hotels etc) listening, rather than at home, check out the ones made by Doro. I think you can find them on Amazon or you can buy from Doro direct. They make telecoms equipment and their monitors work well at much bigger distances than the normal ones - in theory ours covers 2 kms (!!) but in practice it means that going down a couple of flights of stairs and into a different bit of a hotel doesn't cut off all reception which is what happens to our Tomy and BT ones which we use at home. Drawbacks are a) you have to keep an eye to ensure you've got reception and b) they are one way only, so you can't talk back to the baby.

Lucky - so sorry about the dog I was so excited for you

Ange - Tamara also refused some stage 2 'lumpy' food for the first time, even though she happily stuffs lumpy finger food in her mouth!

Aaargghh....the big cake for the Thomas has just fallen apart Bugger....!!!!! Oh dear, had better get to supermarket to buy more eggs, butter, flour and start again once the kids are in bed. Bang goes the rest of my catch up for now....

Isabellasmam · 26/08/2008 18:10

Hi everyone

I've been away in Alton Towers and then had to find the new thread (good title). Have skimmed over posts but too many to catch up properly so will be watching from now.

Izzy's coping well with vegetables now but is still refusing eggs, weetabix, fruit (except C&G purees) and pasta, she seems to like the taste but not the texture. I guess perseverance is the key. Oh and she loooooves chocolate of any kind. She gets than from both parents

Lilyloo · 26/08/2008 18:12

Thanks MM

Filly no it was too big so we have just had to cross our fingers everyone finds us eventually

Wow everyone had busy weekends Those who went away very

As you may have guessed i am not camping My friend rung and said it is blowing a gale. They were up all night as the tent kept coming undone so she said it up to us but thought better of it esp with dd2. However we were all dressed packed and ready to go so lot's of tears from dc's.
We are hoping it's going to be better tom or Thurs so we can still go but the forecast is getting worse not better It's in Bala Wales so if anyone can see a promising forecast
Have told dc's we will do our best to go but they don't care about the implications of the weather so our reasoning is futile

OP posts:
betterhalf · 26/08/2008 18:13

Isabellasmam, I gave up on weetabix in the end and changed to Ready Brek, and Toby loves it.

And regarding the lumpier food some of you have mentioned. I have persevered with this with Toby. I ended up chucking loads away but he has suddenly decided he likes it and is wolfing it down. It just took him some time to adapt.

Isabellasmam · 26/08/2008 18:18

BH - will try ready brek later, good idea.

I find she tries more when she is feeding herself. Rusks and rich teas are particularly good for this (I think they help with the teething) and she loves big florets of cauliflower and broccoli.

Lilyloo · 26/08/2008 18:19

We have been so lucky with dd she has def been the best for food.
She has eaten everything and we haven't had to buy one jar She loves toast and pitta bread with houmous.
Lol Gingeme how odd is that they really are funny creatures!
Isabellas have you tried the baby pasta ? It's really small the only prob i have is finding a good way to drain it , anyone ?
