DP sleeps from around 11am till 8pm.
DD sleeps around 10 - 12 then 3-5. So its the times in between.
DP sleeps upstairs and he can hear her when she's on one. She's woken him a couple of times today to prove it. lol

She's not like it all the time and I try my hardest to keep her happy but I gotta pee and stuff.
I was playing with her today and she dropped a toy and WENT nuts. I'm at wits end cos I feel if we just allowed her to throw her paddy a couple of times she'd think it doesn't get her anywhere but at the mo it gets her the world.

Things like nap-times. I lie her down and turn off everything except some quiet music and she screams and thrashes around.

fillybuster · 08/09/2008 23:04

Oops meant to say welcome back simpson...sorry the trip was such a nightmare But now you're back with friends ! left you a long note about 3rd birthday parties a few days ago...scroll down if you still want to know

Lucky - she probably has figured out that you panic/give in in response to a certain noise or behaviour from her...maybe you can try responding differently eg taking her outside for a walk when she starts up? if its not the middle of the night, of course Or get dp to wear earplugs for a few days, then chill, ignore the screaming and after a few minutes calmly distract her with something else....ie she gets the message you don't really care about the noise but here, look at this instead Worth a go, maybe? I know its hard when dp is sleeping and needs to be alert for shifts

simpson · 08/09/2008 23:08

Sorry don't know what to suggest but I do think it is a phase and she is learning that you are there for her if she needs you (unfortunately for you more than you would like!!)

DD can often battle for an hour for her naps she rolls on tummy then gets stuck I then unroll her and she rolls back within seconds Grrr... Rolled up towels next to her don't work as she either rolls on them or unravels them and I am worried about it over her face.

She only has one half hour nap in the morning 11am ish and another 30 maybe 45 mins if I am lucky at 3ish. But does sleep well at night (apart from being away!!)She seems to cope ok with this amount of sleep in day and is fine if she has my undivided attention which can't happen as much as she would like!!

DD also gets fed up with being held sometimes but doesn't want floor so I put her in highchair/stroller/bumbo and she watches what I am doing, doesn't last long mind you!!

simpson · 08/09/2008 23:10

Forgot to say can DP not try earplugs for his sleep that would let him sleep more and take the stress off you trying to keep DD quiet?

LuckySalem · 08/09/2008 23:16

I've asked him to do earplugs but he says they're too uncomfortable.

If it was a nice area I'd take her for a walk each day but its just houses and that's not nice to walk around.
We do the Avon but that's not enough for her. She wants undivided attention as well and sometimes I can't do it.

I've tried stroller - I found she likes her cot cos she can stand herself up in it so might pick up her travel cot from mum's tomorrow and put it up for her. Although she can't reach the top to pull up she might like the security.

Other than this i'm really out of ideas.

Simpson - this is the problem I have. She starts to fall asleep and then realises she doesn't want to sleep yet and rolls onto her belly, gets stuck, screams. You unroll her and 2 secs later she's there again screaming. [sigh]

THIS TOO SHALL PASS - When? lol

simpson · 08/09/2008 23:25

Lucky - tell me about it!!! LOl I have had the rolling phase with DD for over a month now. Its like there is something in her that says "I must roll, I must roll!!" But she has never rolled back so I genuinely think she can't do it But I remember with DS he used to pull himself up to standing in cot and couldn't get back down. Did my head in!!

Travel cot could be a good idea, use it like a playpen put toys in etc. Then she can stay downstairs maybe away from DP when she does nap.

DP might get used to earplugs. I have always HATED them they made my ears sore but in Ireland I got so desperate for sleep as DD was up at least twice in the night then then when she was asleep she sucked her thumb loudly and I mean REALLY loudly that I bought some foam ones and it took one night but I did get used to them.

LuckySalem · 08/09/2008 23:28

See the thing is I know she can roll back as she does it when she's happy - rolls all over the floor and bed. Same with up and down. She's started to stand up using the sofa and then screaming whereas last week she was up and down and cruising along the side of it. It's like she's regressing.

Well I'm going to bed before the nightmare
insues tomorrow.

I'm doing a transport run for a 13 week old puppy tomorrow as well so need my kip.

Thanks all and if anyone else comes up with ideas please tell me. I'll take anything right now.

MrsMcJnr · 08/09/2008 23:43

Hey ladies looks like it might rain here tomorrow. I know that?s nothing to you lot (so sorry it?s been so bad for you this summer ) but we haven?t had a drop since we arrived here at the end of May.

Madmouse ? thanks for the food (and box) info

Lilyloo ? I bet they haven?t suffered for it though hon, don?t feel guilty, you?ve made the right decisions for your family x

Gingme ? your DS seems like a lot of fun now glad the 1st day of school went well

Filly ? LOL loved the message for Nathan!

LaTrucha ? sorry about the peas and sweetcorn!!! I use the same argument when I buy things for DS I know we are on a different time line being in Spain but I give DS his dinner at least 2 hours before his bath. He then has a cat nap before his bath of about 20 mins or so and as a result really enjoys it.

Hey Angechica sorry to hear that things are getting on top of you

Lucky ? good news on the kitten front I agree that babies are one if not more steps ahead of us and that they are more intelligent than we give them credit for. I?m sure you?ve tried but does distracting her not work? (just seen Simpson suggested the same thing)

Simpson ? so sorry it was bad hon glad you are back!

JKS ? that?s what happened here, he just started refusing me! persevere; it might just be a phase.

Catch up with rest tomorrow, knackered! x

LaTrucha · 09/09/2008 08:44

Sorry - just popping in as have very lively dd on my lap (don't know what happened to her but she's full of beans).

I just wanted to say - Lucky - those ideas on distraction etc seem good to me. Garden always helps me. Also playgroups seem to burn off some of dd's energy and I enjoy nattering to other mummies. Also swimming pool. And also, DP should understand that she can shriek as loud as she likes but you're a good mother and you are NOT going to give her the knife! You are quite right. She has to learn that screeching for these things won't work

AIBU to think that Lucky's DP is asking for more than a bit much - NINE hours of uninterrupted sleep with an 8-month old in the house (or any kind of small child, in fact) and not prepared to make any concessions? I don't think know I didn't get this before DD!

And there are comfortable foam earplugs. I used them every day for three years to combat DHs snoring. Now he's stopped smoking it's much better but earplugs really weren't any hassle.

LaTrucha · 09/09/2008 08:47

Foam with a tapered end, BTW, are the most comfortable. And on offer in Boots ATM!

LaTrucha · 09/09/2008 08:50

Oh! and BTW, your thoughts on playpens ladies, please!

Pricey, aren't they? I'm not sure how we're going to get on without one, though.

LuckySalem · 09/09/2008 08:56

Ebay

LaTrucha · 09/09/2008 09:01

Still bloody expensive (for us, anyway).

LuckySalem · 09/09/2008 09:03

I think it's one of those things you do need. We got ours for when she stays overnight but it's gonna double into a playpen as well.

I think ours was £30 from mothercare. I got the cheapest possible.

LaTrucha · 09/09/2008 09:10

You got a travel cot? Hmm. We have a very small house so I'd like a folding one. Our travel cot does fold - if you have a spare few hours!

LuckySalem · 09/09/2008 09:11

www.kiddicare.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet/productdisplayA_42_10751_-1_14053_9909_10001_1405 3 - thats the cheapest I can find.

Yeh we're using a travel cot which will double. Ours takes a while to fold as well, its annoying. lol

LaTrucha · 09/09/2008 09:20

Anyone remember what all those auntues or ladies of a certain age said when you were pregnant? 'Oh babies don't cost much' LOLOLOLOLOLOL

Fragolina · 09/09/2008 09:40

Oooh, my lovely little girl has turned into a monster! Doesn't want to go in her cot anymore, even when tired. As soon as I try lowering her into it, she arches off the mattress and screeeeeams. She usually loves her cot! Yesterdays naps were in the pram with me rocking it, but its pouring with rain out, so not sure what i'll do if she does the same thing today. HELP!

On the positive side, she slept through till 6am (because I ignored her sporadic shouting), and then accepted the bottle so proud but a bit sad at no more bfing.

Sorry no personals - am exhausted, but not sure why, had plenty of sleep.

simpson · 09/09/2008 11:35

Morning all!!

DH has gone back to work today after being off for over 3 weeks, feels a bit odd being in house by myself with the Dcs even though I have been doing everything anyway due to his collar bone. I will be glad when he can tie his own shoe laces

DD seems much more settled today and I think she is glad to be at home. She squeaked at 10pm last night which is unlike her and I thought "here we go again!!" but gave her calpol as she seems to be teething, she drained 5ozs and then slept till 8am I feel soooo much better!!

Am determined to crack on with BLW now we are back from hols etc. Will still give her some purees but gradually increase finger or BLW foods till that takes over iyswim! Today she has had cheese on toast with me and loved it!! You could tell she was chuffed to be eating the same thing as me, was watching me v v intently to know what to do. V sweet For lunch she will have pasta and pesto. Will probably give a yogurt beforehand otherwise she will be too hungry to do it.

Ds back at playgroup tomorrow for 2 weeks till he starts pre school on 25th Sept, he can't wait

barristermum · 09/09/2008 11:35

Hi folks,

Sorry it has been so long! I have had no chance to catch up - took me long enough to find you all but please tell me if there is anything I should know!

I had my gall bladder out a couple of weeks ago and things have been a bit manic. But now the operation is over I feel fab and the worries of recent months are well and truly put behind me. I have returned to work and short of the loss of 2 and a half stone now, and the still-slightly-stressed look of my DH you would never have known anything had happened.

DD has had a personality explosion, and sprouted in length alarmingly as well. I simply cannot get over how quickly time passes. She is desperately pulling herself up people/sofas/beds etc, and equally desperately trying to crawl but cannot quite get all parts of herself in the right place. It is comical seeing her try raising a hind leg, or launching herself forward as if sheer momentum will do it - lots of bumped noses and foreheads, but she recovers herself well and I feel just so proud and slightly awed by her deetermination. She manages to propel herself around by a combination of creeping and bum-shuffling.

She loves her food and her sleep and nothing is safe from her now! DH has fitted one stair gate and I am trying to see if we can cope in a town house without anymore.

DH and I had our first evening out since she was born and left DD with a friend babysitting last week as we went to celebrate our 3rd anniversary - it was SO lovely and we were very proud of ourselves for managing to go an hour and a half before even talking about her. She didn't stir all evening!

Anyone else thinking of their next lo or even pg already ? I am starting to get a bit broody, and not sure how keen DH even is to extend the family - or even if I want another. I was a very happy only child, but I was so scared in the first few weeks of Cerys's life that I would almost like to have a 2nd just to do the first couple of months again knowing I would manage! I love her so much seems silly not to create another I would love so much! I don't know - just put it forward for discussion.

Anyone else back to work recently and loving/hating it? Cerys loves her nursery and it's really working out for us but not easy I know. Anyway love to all. xxxxx

madmouse · 09/09/2008 11:43

Lucky please please relax over dp waking up. He will have to get used to it one way or another! If (or when ) he complains tell him 'she is a child, she does make noise, end of discussion. Agree with LaT that he is getting a rather princely amount of undisturbed sleep and needs to be more flexible.

It was our 10th wedding anniversary yesterday, so have not been on much as dh and I managed to watch some dvd together (rarely spend evenings together), first with Nathan bf, then we put him in bed, but 10mins later he was awake screaming, and again and again. Strange thing was he was screaming, normally he calls and waits for answer then calls again. In the end he snored away on dh's shoulder while we watched movie. As soon as bum his cot he screamed again and he seemed to have some difficulty farting. In the end he slept from 12-1, then at 1.45 he suddenly relaxed in cot, smiled, blinked and was off. ravenous (of course ) at 3.15, but then slept till 7.30 and after feed we all played and slept in big bed till 9.30 (dh's day off)! No idea what it was, but did huge poo this morning and polished off 2/3 large jar of lasagna last night .

Out for a nice lunch this afternoon to celebrate.

So Fragolina our kids seem to have been chatting to each other , hope dd calms down.

Well, simpson glad you are back, last time you went there for a while I guess?

Susie I have a Graco pack and play travel cot from ebay which folds in seconds and is really sturdy and large. It umbrella folds round a big red button in the base. It can also be used as a playpen.

Hello to everyone else.

Lucky well done on kittens

madmouse · 09/09/2008 11:47

x-post barristermum and simpson hello

barristermum sounds like cerys is doing fabulous no wonder you think about having another one of those.

simpson is there such thing as baby pesto? Because normal pesto is so high in salt? Just wondering as I love pesto!

simpson · 09/09/2008 12:05

Barristermum - glad you hear that you are ok and on the mend. Cerys is doing well.

Fragolina - hope you get a good nights sleep tonight and feel more refreshed.

Madmouse - I have made the pesto myself and put it in ice cube trays. I am very impressed because I am a rubbish cook

LaT - i don't have a playpen as DD's activity station takes up half the front room But do have same travel cot as Lucky but just used for DD to sleep at my mum's don't know how long it takes to put up and down as it just stays up in spare room.

madmouse · 09/09/2008 12:39

simpson recipe please pronto !!!

simpson · 09/09/2008 12:51

Madmouse - have not tasted it yet,DS says he is not hungry!! Made it before going away

But recipe was:

1 cup dried & cleaned basil
3 garlic cloves
half s cup of pine nuts
half a cup of grated parmesan
half a cup of olive oil
(can add a bit of lemon juice if you wish)

Chuck in blender everything but the oil and start to blend, while blending slowly add oil.

Easy!! Got it out of freezer earlier and it looks ok am just doing the pasta now...
