Thought I'd start a new thread before we ran out of space! Couldn't remember the exact name suggestion so have paraphrased, the sentiment is still the same though...

All this talk of poonamis - I have the opposite issue! Has anyone's baby radically cut down on the amount they poo? He's gone from pooping at pretty much every feed to about once a week. Seriously. I was worried at first but then I read lots of reassuring things about how it just meant that my breast milk was so supertailored to his needs that there was nothing left over. But still I wonder. Anyone else in same boat?

PS - I'm not complaining btw! Having a poo-free baby is pretty awesome, all told...

thegreenfairy · 15/08/2008 16:46

I wish Storm was poo free. She poos practically every feed! Between washing the reusables and buying disposables I have no time left! Ok, kidding.
But my washing machine is taking a pounding these days...

debinaustria · 15/08/2008 16:58

HI everyone

Ampster - Ethan can go a week between poos, at the moment it's about every 3/4 days and then he only goes once!

BUT he is the fartiest baby in Austria, people pass him back to me saying - I think he needs changing - but he never does - it's just smelly farts!!

ampster · 15/08/2008 17:09

lol, same here! his farts never smelled until he stopped pooing though. i think i'd rather have the farts...tough call.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 15/08/2008 17:45

Hello all, just a quick catch up, laptop has died so doing ths on the old computer. Also very busy so not on much.

Hope everyone is well and enjoying the better weather.

Just had a lovely afternoon with Libralady Luke is georgeous very laid back and her older boyis lovely, very good with Edie and they had a great time playing together.

have a good weekend on and all.

ThePenguinProject · 15/08/2008 18:26

Hi everyone - Had a really busy day today.

Has anyone tried a buggyfit class yet? I'm looking into them (and new gym membership), but would like to hear your experiences. Really annoyingly my local instructor is offering a free class on Monday and Tea round her place after the Wednesday class....I don't have my 8 week check up and hopefully sign off until Thursday!

DH out on the p tonight....hope he remembers he's in sole charge of Ryder tomorrow morning and that might not be fun with a hangover. [evil laughter]

Bad news - My lovely old cat is being put dowm tomorrow. Poor thing has had to put up with a house move and a new baby in the last couple of months and has been so good. But she has more than eight different things wrong with her and is getting thinner and finding it harder to walk by the day. I'm feeling guilty as pre Ryder I would have been devastated whereas now I'm just a bit sad.

Been really good all week and have lost some lbs , so am undoing all the good work by treating myself to a takeaway tonight!

Ryder still having daily poonamis (Essie - I keep accidentially saying poonani...). One a day or less would be great. TMI alert - They're getting smellier, although thankfully his farts appear to be odourless right now.

OP posts:
ThePenguinProject · 15/08/2008 18:32

Also, has anyone got a quinny zapp and how would you rate it? (Essie - is this what you had in wagas?)

I'm finding my buggy a bit big now and would like something smaller. I'd like to be able to get the tube as it really would make London life much easier....

Also are they sturdy enough to get one second hand (ebay here I come) or would you recommend a new one? I'm tempted to go new as they're only about £100 (we already have a maxi cosi) and I can get it tomorrow....

libralady · 15/08/2008 18:40

Will catch up later but just wanted to post and say what a lovely day we had with Sophie AKA fivegomadindorset. Basil is a lovely little boy and Edie was a lot of fun. Sam had a great time 'looking after' Edie and was extremely perplexed when she got stung by a wasp. At least the weather has improved over the last couple of days so a day out at the castle was fantastic.
Catch you later

Quick Question - Do cabbage leaves do anything for thrush? I bought one at tesco this morning and am now sat with the leaves in my bra (it is lovely and cool) and is there a maximum length of time I should leave them in.

Have been dealing with this thrush for 5 weeks now - Last dr I saw (male) said I may just have sensitive nipples/I didn't 'toughen' them enough before birth (WTF)

debinaustria · 15/08/2008 19:38

Hedgehog, you may remember that my hospital sent me home with a cabbage for my blocked ducts, keep it in the fridge, cut the hard stalk out of the leaf then put it in a muslin cloth and using a rolling pin , roll it flat, then put in bra.

As for the time - I often forgot until I started applying heat to the breast before the next feed - then you begin to smell it!!!I would be sitting there with a hot water bottle on me, thinking what on earth is that smell.

Hope it helps the thrush - no harm in trying eh?

poppy34 · 15/08/2008 19:43

just quick post ....pp sorry to hear about your cat

hedgehog cabbage meant to help with swelling/discomfort so would help with sideeffects of thrush..its the active ingredient in yoghurt that is meant to be the real help.. not sure if you can apply it to your nipples (but don't see why not - given you are advised to apply it if get thrush elsewhere ). your doctor sounds like an arse.. had that kind of comment from my mother when had blocked duct (whcih still hasnt gone - teh joy of weekly visits to the specialist)...reallly helpful .

re pushchair, we've got a maclaren xt -although I wasnt sure it was plush enough for edie when newborn , am now really happy with it.. dead light and when you put a cosytoes in it she loves it. very easy for getting out/about and travelling plus has some longevity as do see loads of bigger kids in em.

hope you have fun at the meet up..would have gatecrashed but am away til after bank hol now.

fingers crossed may be getting somewhere on sleeping..edie happier to settle in her cot at night , now starting to settle earlier in teh evening and generally only waking up once sometimes not til 4/5am...suppose there is some upside to ff.

debinaustria · 16/08/2008 06:51

Morning all, hope you're all OK. Pouring down here and it's our village fete today

PP - sorry to hear about your cat.

Sybil - hope you have a better day

Josey - how are you doing today?

Makecakes - if you're lurking - how are you? Come and say hello or e-mail me.

Hedgehog - how's the thrush this morning? Did the cabbage help?

Amberc · 16/08/2008 07:54

PP sorry about the cat - what's wrong with it? I remember when my cats died and I was devastated as they were part of the family.

Having a rubbish time at the mo - had a row over who knows what yesterday with DP which has now gone into not really speaking to each other mode and general bickering. Not sure how to break it to be honest as neither of us will back down. He's going to NY tomorrow until Thursday. I think the tiredness makes rows much easier to have.

Parofleurmapu · 16/08/2008 09:01

Good Morning well have tried to catch and read instead of skimming

Amberc - Rows and bickering are easier when both of you have lack of sleep, hope you get it sorted

PP- sorry bout cat Its sad when that has to happen. Re quinny zapp I have the buzz and the pushchair bit is similar to zapp and other features too. I find it fab, really hardwearing and easy to put up and down as its mechanical, it is slightly bigger on folding up than other buggies but if your boot is big enough, also dont know bout zapp but the buzz is quite wide so sometimes cant ge in places but i wouldnt swap as really comfortable for Fleur and ace to push.
Congrats on weight

BDQ - Hehe on S beeing a monkey messing up a routine
Fleur woke at 7.45 today wanting to feed instead of normal 8.45 (Ohhh 1 hr more sleep llost!!) Oh well she did sleep from 7pm to 2am then 2.30 -5.30 and then til 7.45 so cant complain really

UDC- fingers crossed dorothy gets on better now youve eliminated things, I cant have beer neither alcholic or non it gives fleur awful wind!!

Hedgehog - hope thrush better, im getting checked out nxt week as Fleur had a few probs sucking, latching on and crying at breast though i feel fine

Ah- although you are frazzled im sure you are doing fab job loving the pics on the blog!

Glad libralady and 5 go mad had a fun time, I would love there to be more mum and baby groups, breastfeeding cafes over here but nothing like that at all, not even changing areas in most places. Whats it like in the other expat countries?

Morning debs Hows the house selling going? Hope weather clears up for fete

Poppy - hope cot goes smoothly i found Fleur didnt mind it

Makecakes - Hows things? Hope things looking up and all well

Fungle hope all goes better now with the FF

Sybil - heres to a better time today

Hi to everyone else!!! too Hope LO are all well

Im Hoping that today weather better than yesterday as it was raining and dull!!!yes here in sunny GC!! I want to put fleur in her paddling pool as she loved it while we were on hols (see blog video!!!) but its a bit too chilly

Also hope shopping trip goes better today, as we went off to search for bday pressie to take to Fleurs 1st birthday party only to realise when we got there that everything was shut cause it was a fiesta day!!!

bitofadramaqueen · 16/08/2008 09:13

Just skimming today, as heading in to town (on my own!) for something to wear for a wedding next week. Fingers crossed its not too depressing!

Par0 - S's routine continues to be messed up! We did get him to take a full feed at 10 which was great and then he slept all the way till 4.40am which was amazing. However, he didn't wake up for a feed at 7, so we all slept in... I made us get up and feed him shortly after 8, but needless to say he only took half a feed, finished at 9am which is one hour before his next feed is due [hmmm]. Hopefully it'll all work out alright again before tea time.

Paro - will you post yet another link to Fleur's blog? I lost all my favourites when I changed broadband provider. allnew I still have it on my to do list to e mail you a link to S's blog! Sorry, have been rubbish.

Parofleurmapu · 16/08/2008 09:38

Hope it does sort it self out!!BDQ Bless them eh!
Heres the link to Following Fleur Have i got a link to yours dont think so!! Would love to see!!! my email is yeahrozzaonly at yahoo dot co dot uk

Amberc · 16/08/2008 10:25

paro Look at her diddy hat!!! What swimmers did you put on her - i didn't think they came that small to be honest...

Parofleurmapu · 16/08/2008 10:37

Hehe the hat was from England think Sainsburys or one of other supermarkets!!.

The swimmers are from holland from Prenatal. Cute arent they!! My SIL got them. They are like trunks and you can put them on without nappy, must admit though was slighty worried poonami would hit the pools of Gran Canaria!!! But they survived a very good buy!

Parofleurmapu · 16/08/2008 10:39

here is a site that sells them in England Swimmer pants

Parofleurmapu · 16/08/2008 10:41

and here

spongebrainbigpants · 16/08/2008 10:58

PP, sorry to hear about your cat. We lost one suddenly four years ago and it was devastating .

I have tried buggy fit and would highly recommend them - I thought it was an excellent way to get fit with a baby, and I got to meet lots of other mums with different age children which made a change from always focusing on babies Alex's age.

However, one word of warning - don't overdo it! Because of a difficult pregnancy, I've pretty much been tied to my sofa for nine months, started buggy fit the day after my 6 week check, went hell for leather round the lake (it can be quite a strenuous class but the instructor constantly tells you to go at your own pace and not worry about what everyone else is doing - course I didn't listen ) and have now ended up aggravating an old injury to my foot and put myself out of action for another month. Very frustrating.

Thanks for the link on swimmers, paro, we're going to take Alex next week.

Amber, sorry to hear you've fallen out with your dh . I totally agree with the tiredness making you more argumentative - tough call if he's going away though. How long's he going to be gone for?

Hi to everyone else. Must dash, baby about to stir for a feed.

ThePenguinProject · 16/08/2008 12:26

DH took the cat this morning - after being ok about it yesterday, found it pretty tough today, as did DH, came back in tears....and he's a tough kiwi bloke. Not sure who asked, but she had arthritus (sp?), kidney problems, repeated urine infections and big problems with her back legs...she also had at least one cat specific diseases that I can't remember that was causing her to lose weight. It was the right thing to do, but she will be missed.

Sponge - Thank you for the buggyfit advice, esp as I would be like you and trying to be as good as people that have been going for yonks.

Amber - Sorry about your DP. Is it worth saying something like "sorry we're arguing, I don't want to leave it like this when you go" ? It's a sneaky phrase that sounds like you're apologising when you're not really...

A few posts back I said that the fennel tea hadn't made any difference to my milk - well it has today! I normally get up at 5.30am-ish to express and then feed Ryder. I did that today and then we went back to bed about 6.30am with empty breasts. Woke up at 9am having flooded the bed! That has never happened before...

OP posts:
aberdeenhiker · 16/08/2008 16:44

PP - I've got the zapp and I wouldn't recommend it because it doesn't recline. For infants you can use the maxicosi, but for older toddlers it's a pain to use as they probably will want to nap and it's difficult in there! That being said, it folds up extremely small which is why we bought it (small car, family vacation with four adults and a baby).

as for putting babies in swim suits without nappies - we thought we were past worrying but DS1 (25 months) had a poo at the pool last weekend. Fortunately it was all contained but DH said that there was brown liquid oozing out all over the change room. I am glad I was sitting having coffee with Fraser instead!

pleasechange · 16/08/2008 17:03

Hi all - haven't posted in a few days as DH has been off work all week which has been great.

sybil sorry to hear the feeding is still difficult. A still does this fussing and crying at the breast, although for some reason he feeds perfectly now at night, and it's just the day feeds that are difficult. I'm hoping that now we've passed the 6 week mark things will gradually improve

amber I've been getting A to sleep on his side like you suggested a few weeks back. It settles him so much better than on his back, so thanks for the tip!

DQ did you manage to get an outfit today for the wedding?

My new babyhawk sling arrived this week - A is in it now asleep. It's my second sling and I think I'm now addicted as I've been looking at others now on the internet!

aberdeenhiker · 16/08/2008 17:36

allnew - how does A fit in the babyhawk? I haven't tried Fraser in mine yet, we used it mainly for DS1 as a toddler. I love my babyhawk through and am looking forward to using it!
