Thought I'd start a new thread before we ran out of space! Couldn't remember the exact name suggestion so have paraphrased, the sentiment is still the same though...

OP posts:

Hi aberdeen - This is the first day I've had A in the babyhawk and he's been sleeping happilly in it for over an hour now! I haven't been walking anywhere, just around the house, but it's very comfortable. At the minute he's in the froggy position with legs inside - not sure at what point you use the legs out position?

It's really different from the hugabub wrap I have - he's able to see out more from the babyhawk which would probably be better for walks I think. I'm not sure whether or not to get a hotsling - for quick trips. Does anyone on here have one to offer any opinions?

goingfor3 · 16/08/2008 18:15

ThePenguinProject Zapps aren't that good if you have a big baby, so many kids looked crouched in them. I use a Maclaren on the london underground and it's really good, would definatley recommend it.

Upsidedowncake · 16/08/2008 19:55

Penguin, sorry about your cat. I hope yuo're OK, but well done on the weight.

Sybil, I hope you had a better day today.

Fivego / Sophie - glad you and Libra had a lovely time.

Aberdeen, yuk, 2-year-old poo - won't it be wonderful when they can both wipe their own bottoms?

DQ, there must have been something about 4.40 am! DS (aged 2.5) and DD both got up at that time!

Paro, cold weather in Gran Canaria. Todo bajo el sol, eh?

Debs, interesting re Ethan's poos. I worried about them a lot more first time round - well done you for your perfectly balanced breast milk. Any more valuations?

Dorothy seems to be much better without dairy as well. She was slightly sick this morning and a bit windy this afternoon (but I forgot the infacol). How do the Italians manage to eat their insalate tricolore?

We are way off schedule too - I had a perfect Gina baby until her growth spurt this week. Now I can't get her to sleep more than 1 hour at lunchtime, and I have to really struggle to get her down without a finger, nipple or dummy to chew on. (plus it's hard with DS running around causing chaos). How do the rest of you with two manage it?

aberdeenhiker · 16/08/2008 20:20

upsidedowncake manage it? I'm going with controlled chaos here. And no matter what I do we have the same kind of night (up twice) so I'm trying not to worry.

debinaustria · 16/08/2008 21:50

I'm with you AH - whatever I do in the day doesn't make any difference to the night - I'm up twice too.(at least)

We've had 3 valuations now and they vary by 75,000 Euros !! 2 are similar and one is pie in the sky. One agent spoke excellent English, has a good website and was very positive about our house so I think we'll be going with her. Just got to decide when to put it on the market as we can't afford to miss out on the winter earnings.

Amberc · 16/08/2008 22:38

Ladies, talking of slings, I bought one fron ebay 'cos I wanted something I could put Luke in horizontally instead of upright IYKWIM (like you cradle them in your arms). I'm really pissd off as he's way too long for it and ends up doubled in two - am I doing it wrong or are those horizontl ones only up to a certain size?

PS made up with DP!

alipalli · 17/08/2008 00:43

amber: welldone for making up with dh.

Pp: essie and I both have versions of the chicco 3 in 1. The pushchair bits by themselves get good write ups for being lightweight and manoeverable. Score less well on size of storage basket. Don't know if they take the maxi cosi. Sorry about your cat.

Deb: was going to ask whether you would be around for the winter season. Currently trying to agree on a ski holiday with two other couples who both had babies this year. We are all fairly strong willed and have different preferences. What a nightmare. Of course I think I know best cos I did I ski season

weren't the olympics great today! Ah I thought of you when the cycling was on.

I just managed to totally mess up a dream feed. Ended up with a screaming peter who had wet his clothes when I attempted a stealthy nappy change in the dark. Arghhh! All quiet now though so no longer the worst mummy in surrey

fungle · 17/08/2008 07:45

Goodmorning......
I think Im getting used to being up twice a night now, funny isnt it how you just adjust.
LO seems to be getting quite a regular night time pattern now, which is good Bed around 7, wakes 11, 3 then up between 6.30 and 7. Shame we cant suss the days at the mo, shes all over the place
Fights sleep terribly, and wants lots of small FF, I thought with FF they where meant to feed ever 4 hours. I guess she is used to little and often with BF. It makes it difficult because I dont know if crying is because of hunger or not. And im very aware that FF babies can overeat.
West country ladies, Im up for a meet up anywhere really, John Lewis in Cribbs is possible but a bit harder for me as I dont drive. Central Bristol easy, and yep am looking forward to checking out new shops in Sept
Sorry about your cat PP, thats sad
Enjoy the reat of the weekend x

bitofadramaqueen · 17/08/2008 08:22

Morning fungle! It took me a few days to settle S into a feeding routine when he moved from EBM but it was worth it. He's now 7am, 10am, 2pm, 6pm, 10pm on thereabouts. I'd recommend working on trying to give a full feed at the first feed of the day and work on from there. The evening/night-time pattern shows she can go 4 hours without. Am no expert though, so wont be offended if you dont take my advice!

Am feeling particularly refreshed today as S slept from 11pm till 5.30am . Was worried how it would affect his feed as he was getting a feed around an hour and half before his 7am feed, but he only took about half his usual feed at 5.30 so we did another half feed at 7am and hopefully he'll keep on track the rest of the day. Here's hoping its not a blip.

Paro and allnew I've sent you an invite to the blog. I'm a secret mumsnetter though so please dont 'out' me!

PP really sorry about your cat.

Allnew I didn't get an outfit but did buy a winter jacket. Am officially a 'mum' - I bought a jacket with a hood because its too hard to hold an umbrella and push a pram. However, it was from topshop so still clinging onto maintaining my youth.

On the pushchair from, while I love my bugaboo bee (gush, gush) our local bus company getting very strict on prams so think we me invest in a maclaren sooner rather than later for when I have to get the bus/travelling etc. Any recommendations? I might check out the products topic list or start a thread.

alipalli sorry about your dream feed, the good news is today is a new day!

aberdeenhiker · 17/08/2008 09:24

bus recommendations - drive or walk. I've been very annoyed when I've taken the bus lately. They only allow one buggy on and it's always full with some woman pushing her 3 year old. Does she fold hers up so I can leave my newborn sleeping? Nope. I've given up on the bus and am walking or driving into town instead.

Am loving the olympic cycling and swimming. I was a swimmer when I was younger (this is the first olympics where I haven't had a former teammate racing! - I feel old now) so it brings back a lot of excitement.

deb - it's kind of a relief that nothing we do makes a difference though, especially with the older boys. It means I've no pressure to do anything special during the day and can schedule things around DS1.

TJuice · 17/08/2008 09:27

pp - so sorry about your cat. i am still gutted about losing mine which was about 6 years ago. xoxoxo

fungle · 17/08/2008 09:33

advice greatly appreciated bdq, its good to know what other people have done, and also that it can take a while to establish, will try eek out the time between feeds. how much do you give per feed? we are on 4oz, well thats what im aiming for. think she must weigh 12lb now so am aiming for around 30floz in 24 hours.
sorry about lack of capitals, lo asleep on arm!
how are people going with baby weightloss?
im suprised that its all gone already. pleased though! been shopping and got new slim leg jeans, tops and 2 cardi's. its good for the soul;)
am back to swimming twice a week now too in an effort to tone up, going to go this morning.
right, best get ready, bottles to wash, big kid to bath.....the list goes on!

Parofleurmapu · 17/08/2008 09:43

Morning all

All well here good nights sleep i went to bed aat 9 and fleur slept from 7pm to 1am then woke at 5 and again just now so feel very normal!!

BDQ thanks for invite will look now aand sssshhhh!

Re Talking boout formula feeds and 4 hrs

As fleur has knocked her dream feed out im still giving FF once during day as when i go back to work i wont be able to express enough tto feed her whilst at nursery so i dont want her forgetting the bottle or FF seeing that she takes it easily.

Have just bout HIPP organic FF as the other nestle Nidina (dont know if same in england) was out of stock. Is Hipp good?

Gettin out and about: PP think actually maclaren would be better. Im thinking of getting one for xmas when we fly back as dubious bout taking quinny on plane and also have probs with buses etc here. I had Fleur in her maxi cosi on the wheels the other day got on the bus put the brake on and strapped buggy in. The driver made me take out Fleur and holsd her in my arms as it was safer!!! She was in a car seat strapped in and strapped to bus!!! like in a car!

Long post again will go now before i blether on more and more!!!

hedgehog1979 · 17/08/2008 09:56

morning all,

DH had the laptop at work all day yesterday so was internetless

Cabbage hasn't helped with thrush, although getting double use out of the leaves, as can then feed them to rabbit!! have had it for 5 weeks now so will be back to gp next week.

Like pp i have also been looking at lighter weight buggies esp for on the train. we got a mothercare my3 as it did everything we wanted and dh, mil, and my mum disliked the phil and teds which I LOVE, think i will push for that when we need a double

Have to go and visit MIl and FIl(seperated) this morning wish me luck!!

debinaustria · 17/08/2008 10:12

morning all

alipalli - yes we'll be here for the winter, take a look at our site and e-mail me through there if you're interested or you just want to know availability/price.

alipalli · 17/08/2008 10:23

morning everyone. dream feed disaster last night was ok in the end as peter then slept from 12.15 till 5.45: 5 1/2 hours . Can't believe I am happy about being woken before 6am on a sunday!

Also can't believe GB is currently 3rd in medal table.

ampster · 17/08/2008 10:45

morning all!

we had the most amazing poonami this morning. jimmy decided it was time for his bi-weekly megapoo. i heard / smelled the first wave arrive so moved him to his changing mat. attempted to manage the situation but it simply wouldn't stop coming - first nappy was covered, replacement nappy was covered as well, till eventually he was just lying on his (plastic, thankfully) changing mat letting it all come out. i had to take him and the mat to the bathroom to hose 'em down! argh! still, at least that's it for a couple of days.

am at my parents' this weekend. mother has decided to buy jimmy the most annoying toy in the world - a dog that plays horrible renditions of nursery rhymes in tinny electronic tones. no wonder he's crying!

spongebrainbigpants · 17/08/2008 11:41

fungle, alex is ff and i've been assured by my MW that it's not possible to overfeed a baby whether it's ff or bf

alex will certainly tell me when he's full, by just pushing the bottle out of his mouth, and if he occasionally carries on feeding just for the comfort of sucking he promptly brings any extra back up again, so i wouldn't worry too much about it

spongebrainbigpants · 17/08/2008 11:41

I meant my HV not my MW - sorry, spongebrain by name spongebrain by nature!

spongebrainbigpants · 17/08/2008 11:43

deb, your place looks absolutely gorgeous - tempted to book a holiday right now!

bitofadramaqueen · 17/08/2008 12:11

quick post as on way out - fungle S gets 5oz per feed, but he doesn't always take that much. Often he'll take about 4oz, but I like to offer him 5.

poppy34 · 17/08/2008 15:17

Para thanks for the hints... Edie is getting more into her cot (certainly sleeps through at night in it)...just evening bits still tricky but will crack on (it is better some nights so there is light at the end of the tunnel I think)

UDC/fungle know what you mean about daytime routine...the downside of being better at night/more alert is that I have the devils own job getting edie to take a daytime nap (unless out in car/pushchair etc).. and she can be a very greedy baby on their hands - yesterday we had another major vomiting incident purely caused by fact she wouldnt stop feeding.. i guess solution is not to give more foood but difficult to know as a lot of time she is genuinely hungry.

LauraT · 17/08/2008 17:58

bdq katyjo whinegums buchanan galleries iws fine for me, perhaps we should arrange a place outside JL to meet as we may never find each other inside! how about just besdie the ice cream place on the ground floor? now we just need a date and time!

just scanned the rest of the posts, hope all is well. C is going for her 6 week check tomorrow, so will be weighed for the first time in 4 weeks...

debinaustria · 17/08/2008 19:06

Spongebrain - feel free to book - we're very baby friendly!!

fungle · 17/08/2008 19:23

poppy im so with you on the daytime nap stuff, saying that, she has slept loads today. Maybe a growth spurt... or just building it up for this eve
Its really nice to have FF advice on MN Im getting non too supportive stuff from freinds, all of whome have BF for 6 months +
Its a real shame, I wanted to go longer but it just wasnt happening for us.
