Thought I'd start a new thread before we ran out of space! Couldn't remember the exact name suggestion so have paraphrased, the sentiment is still the same though...

hi everyone,

changing - we live in an upside down house so we have ikea cheapy changing table upstairs - living room, and changing mat on the bathroom floor - downstairs.

chewing fist - yes, ethan is also doing this

cradle cap - any babies with this? are you doing anything about it?

eye colour - any eyes changing colour yet? i think i can see flecks of brown appearing. ds1 has brown and ds2 has blue.

Boys finished thir circus camp yesterday, happy, tired and filthy. Went to see the performance last night, sat on end of a row so I could make a hasty exit if needs be. Started bfeeding E when they decided to put more seating in front of me meaning that I would be trapped in, so I had to stand up to move to another seat - E still attached and in front of about 150 people!! Then in the 2nd half when he decided he was peckish again, I got him nicely attached as the lights went out and the special light came on that makes everything white glow in the dark - I was wearing a cream top, e was wrapped in a white blanket - a breastfeeding beacon!!!!
So proud of my older 2 boys - they have definitely learnt life skills austrian style - they both performed fire tricks, ds1 lay barechested on broken glass and ds2 jumped into it!!

ernest - lovely pics

pp - yes, come and visit, we have enough space for an austrian meet up, cheap flights in sept too!!!

debinaustria · 30/08/2008 10:24

PP - sorry i missed the bit about your mum, hope today is OK and isn't too upsetting for you, it must be so difficult.
take care

FiveGoMadInDorset · 30/08/2008 10:28

Morning all, having a relaxed weekedend, no beds today which is lovely but all change tomorrow.

Had a lovely meet up with Libralady yesterday, the only way we can get Edie and Sam out of the pool is to put the cover on.

AmberC my website is www.burngatefarm.co.uk.

Debs - your boys sound like they had a great time, lucky them for having that there and I did laugh at your bf experience, how is your lovely friend whose husband passed away?

We are biting the bullet with all the no shows we have this year and are going to get a card machine so we can take deposits over the phone.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend.

FiveGoMadInDorset · 30/08/2008 10:31

PP - I am sorry I also missed that bout your mother, it mustbe very distressing foir you, my Grandmother had it. I think it is important thing that Ryder meets even if she doesn't understand. Hope the visit goes well.

Well that is granola made off to the butchers.

PiggyPenguin · 30/08/2008 15:03

PP - hope that all goes well for you with your visit. It must be terribly upsetting but I think you will be glad in the long run that you did it.

Today Jamie will mostly be wearing an adorable blue and white stripey shorts/t-shirt ensemble. Bought for the hot weather we never had this is probably the only time he will wear it so felt I should advertise it!

bitofadramaqueen · 30/08/2008 16:22

Sybil I'm still holding out for some nice weather so S can wear the adorable shorts/t's sets that I bought him!

Re: my back libralady it's nothing serious (I think!) but I've had really bad lower back ache since the end of pregnancy and I find bending down/lifting etc really painful. Not ideal when you have a baby! Many many years ago I had a back xray and my lower spine wasn't as straight as it should be but I never really followed it up. My stomach muscles were seperated after birth so I've got lots of exercises from the physio to strengthen those which would hopefully help my back ache but finding time to do them is really difficult! I've to go and see the physio if it doesn't improve but tbh, I need to do the exercises I've already been given before I can take on any more...

Thanks all for changing mat suggestions - good point about the extra exercise going upstairs whoever mentioned that! There's no way I could change S at the moment on the floor so I would definitely have to go upstairs anyway. I think I'll move everything upstairs when we put him in his cot.

Deb I have a real notion to visit Austria - have been suggesting it to DH if we actually manage a holiday next year.

goingfor3 · 30/08/2008 16:33

PP Good luck with the visit, I can't imagine how hard it must be.

Debs Ds has craddle cap, I don't do anything with it. I keep meaning to rub some oil into his head but never do as I can't bare the thought of him having greasy looking hair (stupid I know!!!).
RE eyes, dd1 has green and dd2 has blue eyes though they sometimes look a bit green too. DD1 had really blue eyes until she was over two so it wil be a while before we know what colour ds's will be.

poppy34 · 30/08/2008 18:08

can't believe we've finally got some sun so can break out the summer clothes... just ome back from a walk and am baking.

PP -sorry to hear about your mum.

goingfor3 interesting re your dd -thought it was usually by 6 months that they changed..

LauraT · 30/08/2008 18:16

I have my purse back, hoorah! DH kindly agreed to drive down to Mum and dad's last night, Dad was pleased at getting to see C as he wasn't there on Thursday, and we had a lovely time!

Lots of nice family visiting today, saw my Aunt, Uncle, Cousins, Grandad and Stepgran as well as my best friend's Mum, who's like another auntie! lots of cooing and other people to hold the baby while I drank cups of tea and ate cakes, excellent. PP, your post made me realise how lucky I am with all my family still around, and although my Grandad is failing physically, he's still been here to enjoy having a great grandchild.

BDQ we have a changing unit in the nursery and a mat under the sofa in the front room. mainly go upstairs though...

Are any of you having christenings/naming ceremonies for your LOs? We're having a blessing carried out by a friend who is a reader for the Church of Scotland (like a lay preacher type thing) wondering if anyone has suggestions for any secular readings to include?

LauraT · 30/08/2008 18:18

anyone watching last choir standing? it's the big final, which means it's nearly time for Strictly come dancing... can't wait!

debinaustria · 30/08/2008 19:10

Laura - I'll be watching it but not until later when we download it so no spoilers please!!

bitofadramaqueen · 30/08/2008 19:53

at summer poppy. Cloudy here all day.

ThePenguinProject · 30/08/2008 19:58

Thanks again for your thoughts everyone. Sorry for 'moaning' so much on this thread this week. TBH seeing Mum today was one of the hardest things I've ever done. Mentally she's been gone for a while, but today she was really bad physically as well, she could hardly walk (she's only 66...she got alzheimers when she was just 50). However I am glad I did it and we took some lovely photos of her with me and Ryder. We also had a lovely time with my brother, nephew and stepdad so the day had some really happy times too.

Debs - DH so wants to go to Austria. We were originally thinking winter for snowboarding, but he has been looking at some sites and summer for mountain biking looks really cool. (And much cheaper!). But come 2009, our income will drop drastically, so unfortunately I wouldn't recommend holding your breath....I'll check the cheap flights just in case tho.

Changing - Not really as issue as we live in a garden flat on one floor. I walk the 10 feet from the front room to our bedroom where Ryder's cot and changing table are (until he's 6 months).

Cradle Cap - Ryder has some flakes on his scalp. Previously they were white, so as advised I rubbed olive oil into them. Instead of going away, they turned yellow. Is this cradle cap or did I use too strong olive oil!? Not causing any problems at the mo, so not too worried...

Eye colour - I keep thinking they are changing from blue to brown, but they look different at different times of the day.

5GoMad - at your no shows.

Sybil - Loving the weather enabling us to dess our LO's up. Today is the first day I've been able to put R in a shorts romper suit. So cute! Tomorrow is thundery showers though and R doesn't have a cute raincoat yet, I may need to go shopping...

OP posts:
debinaustria · 30/08/2008 20:52

PP, I'm glad that today had some happy times too, it will be important for Ryder to have those photographs in the future. It must be so hard to see your Mum like that.

Re snowboarding, check out our area for snowboarding, great snow record, and a new 8 seater Cable car this year meaning we have a large area accessed by only cable cars or chair lifts. Might be able to help out with some babysitting too!!

Apologies for the blatant holiday plug !!

Sounds like cradle cap to me too.

Sophie - how expensive are those card machines?
Saw my lovely friend today, phoned her and persuaded her to meet me at the pool and she's doing OK.

goingfor3 · 30/08/2008 20:57

DS's cradle cap is yellow, kind of waxy looking.

I thought that eyes changed by 12 months so was very suprised dd1's turned green!

goingfor3 · 30/08/2008 20:59

PP that must be especially hard as your mum is so young, as Debs said it is great you have some photos together.

Amberc · 30/08/2008 21:04

PP Cradle cap is yellow scales, white flakes are just dry skin. They say olive oil but it can make them a bit smelly in this weather - there's stuff you can buy at the chemist but it will just go by itself in time I hear

Eye Colour - Luke's is a strange combination of blue and brown - mine are blue DP's are brown so we'll see. Thinking they will be brown though as the dominant colour in couples so they say.

5gomad The farm looks lovely - is it actually a real farm? DP and I need a holiday and as we are trying to move house need all the money we can get so no foreign hols this year. Thinking of a long weekend in the UK so will get in tough if we decide.

Had a crap day. Luke woke at 5.30 and wouldn't go back to sleep. I would rather feed him at 4 and have him sleep till 7. There;s something miserable about starting the day when it's dark. That 3 month thing must be kicking in as his usual screaming fit sent me into a crying mess and DP had to send me off for some fresh air and time without the baby. Feeling a bit down in the dumps today (my turn) and even the nice weather didn't help. Found out my sister has had a second miscarrage in a row. She had to have a D&C for the last one and looks like it might be the same again. The docs won't help her until she has had another miscarriage - isn't that rotten? I can't believe they will make her go through this again.

goingfor3 · 30/08/2008 21:12

Amberc so sorry to hear about your sister

if it's any consulation ds slept really badly, is usually fast asleep by now but he just can't settle despite fally asleep twice - right now he's sitting on my lap!

poppy34 · 30/08/2008 21:27

aw amber an not surprised you feel rubbish..I had 2 m/c too so its bloody miserable - I think the zita west system is fantastic for getting through next pregnancy - if your sis is interested google the website (or get the book..they are pretty easy to find)... it really is very good at helping deal with these issues and I don't think they go for the 3 strikes rule (bloody stupid imho).

mind you we're about to have a bad night..madam showing no signs of sleeping yet..

Essie3 · 30/08/2008 22:10

Amber and Poppy, I had a m/c too. But I've heard of the three m/c rule, which is really horrible. And sorry you're feeling down too Amber - I find I'm up and down like a yo-yo these days anyway, and I can be fine then the slightest thing gets me all miserable.

Debs so tempted by your b&b...

Iestyn has cradle cap, and I've used a special balm on it - it's really lovely and good for nappy rash too: gwdihw
Mind you, it hasn't done anything for the cradle cap!!

So many things I wanted to respond to but I've forgotten them all. Had a really tiring day clearing out the dump garden here in London. DH worked really hard, and I kept having to breastfeed all the time - more than usual, possibly because it was so hot? Anyhow he pooed more than usual too!

debinaustria · 30/08/2008 22:10

Amber - sorry to hear about your sister, I hope all goes OK for her, how far gone was she?

I expect to have a bad night as Ethan fell asleep at teatime, fed at about 7, then fell back to sleep again, he doesn't normally go to bed until about 9 ish so I don't think it will be too long before he wakes up!! Must go to bed myself.

Hope everyone's lo's sleep well

debinaustria · 30/08/2008 22:13

Essie - sometimes they do feed more when it's hot. I had a day like that on Tuesday with Ethan, felt like I was always feeding him. Are you doing anything exciting with your garden?

debinaustria · 30/08/2008 22:20

Essie - great site, their stuff looks lovely but I can't find out about postage - did you order online?

FiveGoMadInDorset · 31/08/2008 08:40

Amber sorry to hear aboutyour sister. We are a semi working farm (though we don't do it) it is part of the family farm and estate and this is where they do the lambing in springtime and sort out sheep, we do have sheep in the fields behind us. Many of the antenatal threads were about outstaring sheep from my kitchen window

Debs - we have got a guy coming from a company week after next, another MNer put me onto this company and she pays £23 a month so working on that basis 4 cancelled rooms equals a years rental just about, they also have an agreement with natwest and cheaper business banking.

Upsidedowncake · 31/08/2008 08:44

Hi everyone

Sorry I've been away for a while and apologies to people that I don't reply to properly. It's a bit crazy when I have both DS and DD.

Penguin, so sorry about your mother. It must have been very hard yesterday, but I'm glad you got some good pictures. Are you feeling better in yourself?

Alipalli - comment about fire engine; I figure you must know what it's like too! Any more thoughts about your business?

Debs, hope you had an OK night. And glad that you were able to take your friend out.

Essie, DD ate (drank) a lot yesterday too!

Amber, thanks for definition of cradle cap and dry skin. So Dorothy has dry skin. Hope you are feeling a bit better today.

Sybil, I thought your attitude about weighing and the sickness was really positive. Much better than the depths of despair I get plunged into when DD is sick.

Hedgehog, hope you had a good day yesterday on your own.
