Thought I'd start a new thread before we ran out of space! Couldn't remember the exact name suggestion so have paraphrased, the sentiment is still the same though...

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?

ktpie i have these for freezing bm in. they attach to my breast pump and can also be used with avent teats. I also have the dreaded thrush back. Hv recommended 2 paracetamols 10 mins before feed for the pain

Hi All,

Struggling to keep up with the posts these days but it's so nice to come on here when I do have a spare minute.

Everything is going well here, Emma is still really content, although we had an incident with her brother the other day - he kicked her in the head whilst I was changing her . It wasn't done maliciously but it was deliberate. My dh told him off and put him in his room for a few minutes which we've never done before - he didn't like it but we felt we needed to do something. Usually he's really good with Emma and strokes her head gently and gets excited when he sees her in the mornings etc so this kick came as a great surprise. Fortunately it was just a glancing blow but it upset me. Have any of you had any similar problems with older siblings and how have you dealt with it?

Allnew - we are still exclusively bf'ing and Emma usually sleeps 5- 6 hours at night so I usually end up feeding at about 3am which isn't too bad. It's enough for me to feel human during the day anyway.

As for the poonami's well Emma had been going about once every 2-3 days but my husband made spicy meatballs on Saturday and put extra chilli in and on Sunday Emma did 3 poo's!!!!!! I was quite at the effect it had on her.

ktpie · 18/08/2008 14:47

Thanks hedgehog, I think they are the same ones I've been looking at on the boots website, I may have a wander up there this afternoon, if the rain holds off!

josie - we had chilli on saturday night so maybe that is the reason for the extra poos at the moment, I'm sure he's not normally this bad!

debinaustria · 18/08/2008 15:15

Makecakes - great to see you back with us

Allnew - Ethan is exclusively bfed, and last night's wondrous sleep was a one off!! Usually he can go about 5 hours from about 9.30 pm. Last night he fed for ages(about 45 minutes) before bed so whether that's what made the difference I don't know! In the day he snacks!

Needahand - we're considering moving back to where we moved from - Leyburn , North Yorkshire. I'll still be too far away for meet ups won't I?

LauraT · 18/08/2008 15:35

glasgowgals tues and friday are out for me, monday or wednesday perhaps???

makecakes nglad to hear from you and that things are getting better for you.

Oh no...

I hear the sound of a poonami being generated, eek better go...

goingfor3 · 18/08/2008 17:41

Allnew, DS also only has short feeds but he really gulps it down so I think my milk comes out very fast.

On the subject of poo ds only does it once a week and the last couple of times it's not been too bad!

He has slept quite a bit today, he's on nap number 5 at the moment. Two were one hour and two were half an hour.

bitofadramaqueen · 18/08/2008 18:27

Hi makecakes good to hear from you, glad you're getting on ok.

Glasgow gals - How about 1pm Monday 1 September? Been thinking about train times, and realistically the earliest train I could guarantee getting would be 12 o'clock. Also any later would provide additional challenges of coming home during rush hour. Let me know what you think.

Now, how on earth do I travel by train with a baby .

hedgehog1979 · 18/08/2008 18:43

BDQ depends on the access at your local train station, I cannot travel on the train by myself as it involves stairs to get to the platform and from the platform (they are building lifts at the moment). The trains down here have enough space to stand with a buggy by the doors, although I do get glares from people who get on with huge suitcases at Gatwick. It can be tricky getting off at the other end depending on the step between the platform and train although I have found that getting off and then dragging the pushchair after me works.

If I do have to do it by myself I tend to put Isaac in the sling and everything else in a rucsac so I can do it all dead easily and can sit down without disturbing him

If you can do the bus (which sounds like a nightmare) then the train will be fine

goingfor3 · 18/08/2008 18:49

bitofadramaqueen today I went on trains, buses and underground with baby in a maclaren and a 4 and 7 year old. If you have to use stairs either ask for help or bump the buggy up or down them, in the train either stand near the doors with the buggy or push iy between four seats. You'll be a pro before you know it! Using a sling makes everything much easier!!!

LauraT · 18/08/2008 19:53

sounds good to me BDQ I've pencilled it in!! Queen St and Waverly should both be Ok with a buggy I think!

pleasechange · 18/08/2008 20:00

Thanks all for your replies on feeds/sleeping. I'll be patient, and hopefully A's nightime sleeps will extend over the next few weeks!

All the poo talk is funny - who would have thought a couple of months ago that we'd all be so obsessed with poo!

bitofadramaqueen · 18/08/2008 20:54

Great Laura and thanks all for tips on train travel. Agree that both Waverly and Queen St will be fine and I'll take buggy but stick the sling in too just in case its needed.

Once S gets to 3 months am definitely going to get a maclaren for bus/travel etc. I was looking at a maclaren quest - anyone got any opinions?

Gals in Scotland - is there places to put buggies on our trains without folding them up? Have never really given it consideration before!

TaurielTest · 18/08/2008 22:05

BDQ i did a bit of buggy research and have gone for a maclaren quest for when P can sit up (just one month to go...) - folds up really nicely and the seat reclining mechanism seemed better than the one on the triumph, and i lost count of the number of more experienced mum friends who recommended the brand. i think they're a tenner off at mothercare.com at the moment too.

debinaustria · 19/08/2008 07:45

Morning all

I knew it was a one off - back to the 3.30 fed last night!!

thegreenfairy · 19/08/2008 09:55

morning all

just a quickie as i think storm is raring up for her three month growth spurt went to HV clinic yesterday and she's climbing the centiles again, gained 13oz last week and I spent THREE HOURS feeding her yesterday evening, and TWO AND A HALF HOURS in the night!

needless to say am not planning much for the next couple of days, and am taking advice to have a 'nursing holiday' (ie, just get into bed and feed constantly) which am not looking forward to, but it's the quickest way to get the supply up...

so, briefly...
hedgehog re thrush - sorry to hear it's back - have you done more than use the cream/ gel?
if not, then also try - cutting sugar and yeast from diet as much as poss. boiling instead of microwave or steam sterilising any bottles etc (kills the fungus spores better), taking acidophilus supplement - one for each feed(restores stomach balance), vinegar and water solution on your nipples and baby's bum at nappy change to sterilise you both (one tblsp vinegar to one cup water). using disposables or boiling your reusables rather than doing 60 wash. sounds like a right pain, but it'll get the deep rooted infection which the cream/ gel may not kill on its own. good luck!

debs sorry to hear you had a night feed again - but it's a sign of progress he dropped it at all i guess!

needahand we'll find somewhere - will think on it.

waves at everyone* else wish me luck with the growth spurt!

aberdeenhiker · 19/08/2008 11:25

bitofadramaqueen - yes, there's lots of room at the end of most of the carriages to leave your buggy. Often there's a wheelchair area where you can park the buggy and sit down. I find the train really easy with a baby! Much better than the car where if they cry you can't do anthing about it!

We went and visited with Josey and family yesterday as I was up that way dropping DH at the airport. Olivia is doing really well with her gross motor skills and puts Fraser to shame! It's lovely to see how much she's improved in these past few weeks. And as always, it was great to chat

ErnestTheBavarian · 19/08/2008 11:37

ooh hello everybody. I've not been on mn forages - didn't even know there was a pn thread!

How is everyone? I'm fine & looking forward to tomorrrow - boys back at school

I'll now have to spend forever catching up

Parofleurmapu · 19/08/2008 11:59

Morning

Bit peeved today took Fleur for weekly weigh in at chemist and she has lost 5 grammes which i no is nothing but after being used to her gaining 200g - 400g every week it was a shock, presume all is well and that its just this week, we shall see

TGF - Re swimming etc, think 10 mins is still a long time for them, I only put fleur in for 5 mins, maybe a bit longer somedays. I got her used to water first with her own little bath and a small paddling pool. We did it gradually 1st day splashing water over here, then just putting feet in, then hands etc, then lying in my arms. SHe did cry and scream sometimes but we perserved even through screaming and she got used to it. I also give a shower with us every so often and dont actually top and tail her but give her a mini strip wash ie rub water all over her on her changing mat, she loves it .We have 3 specific bathtime songs which now i tink she relates to as she gets excited when she hears them!!! I also sing these in the pool. Hope this helps and good luck with growth spurt!!!

Fungle I get the opposite from RL friends, im breastfeeding and they say oh you will be giving up now wont you, uh no actually was hoping to feed fleur at least to after xmas. they look at me in distaste!!! all are FF

Allnew- you mentioned that FF helped babies sleep through ive found that with fleur its the opposite have tried a ff feed last thing at night and she wakes earlier than with BF!!!!

Ohh Debs, oh well 1 good night!!!

Hi ernest good to see you

Glad to see you are ok makecakes!

Amberc · 19/08/2008 16:24

Haven't had a minute to read anything but aftr Luke did a massive poonami going all the way up to his neck at Debenhams with the London mumsnetters, he did another one at home!!! I had to cut him out of his babygrow as I couldn't pull it over his head as it was so covered in it! What the hell gets those yellow stains out other than bleach? Thank god I take a spare outfit with me!!

bitofadramaqueen · 19/08/2008 16:25

Afternoon all, just on quickly to read todays posts.

Welcome back ernest I was wondering what happened to you!

Debs same here! S had a middle of the night feed. He woke shortly after two but was only grumbling a bit so didn't feed. By around 3am though he was crying so gave him a small feed. He was really settled in the evening last night though (which is very rare) so I guess you cant have it all ways!

Paro Fungle you can't win with feeding can you! I think people often want you to be doing the same as them as it validates their own choices.

Aberdeen ta for confirmation re the trains. It's funny how its something I've never thought of. Remember now that there is usually a big area for wheelchair users etc although often next to the smelly toilets!

Thanks puddock for reassurance on the Quest. Think I'm definitely going to go for that one. Did some internet searching and couldn't find any bargains for new ones so will check out mothercare offer.

Right, today is my first day of getting back to studying so tell me off if I'm on here too often on a Tuesday. Am supposed to spend all day Tuesday studying but today been to docs for 6 week check, had some visitors then went shopping for wedding outfit! Purchased a very uninspiring black dress, but think I can dress it up nicely with a bright shrug/cardi and some nice jewellry so trip to Monsoon on Friday!

Right, I'm going to dust of the textbooks...

hedgehog1979 · 19/08/2008 18:48

afternoon all,

Was lovely to meet all you london ladies earlier.

amber sunlight bleaches poo stains out, hung out my nappies and a couple of stained babygro's yesterday and all are back to being white

TGF haven't even had cream or gel, have had flucanozole (sp) for me and nystatin for LO, haven't even been using bottles due to thrush but have been putting them through the dishwasher and then boiling anyway, but will try the water and vinegar and probiotic drink thing. However saw another GP today who doesn't think it is thrush and recommended that I see the lactation nurse, so off to the BF cafe on thurs (DH's other day off this week)

welcome back ernest hope all is well.

Isaac has had his 8 week check and jabs today. He was good as gold. A little bit upset, but he was also hungry as well as we only just made it after meeting the london ladies (took a detour on the way home as DH wanted to 'just check a couple of things' so we had to stop at a pizza hut)
After the jabs we took him to the pub, fed him and he has been fine since although feeding every 2 hours, rather than the 3/4 I had got used too. But we have had a lovely nap in the bed together!!

Those of you whose LO have had their jabs, if they were going to get temps/side effects how long afterwards did they start to show?

Weather looks C$%P for tomorrow so think we will stay in, and continue the good work I started last night in packing away my maternity clothes and throwing loads of others away - I had over 35 pairs of jeans ( did someone say hoarder!!)

Amberc · 19/08/2008 19:12

hedgehog I agree sunlight would bleach them but I live in a flat so have nowhere to hang anything!

Got to share this with someone - cannot believe DP is away but Luke LAUGHED!!! Proper laughing not just a few noises. He did it when I put the shower on his tummy when he was in he bath and then did it each time (I checked to see if it was a coincidence but it wasn't). Oh my god it was the most amazing thing!! I hope he does it again tomorrow. I also hope I do not spend every waking hour now trying to make him laugh again (probably will, especially when I tell DP and he wants to see).

On the down side, Luke is not in any way tired like he usually is so i'm going to go mad trying to get him to go to sleep this evening

Upsidedowncake · 19/08/2008 19:53

Ernest, welcome back. Good to hear from you. How are you all settled in in Munich?

It was lovely to see all the London ladies today - very interesting to put a face (and a real name) to a nickname.

Paro, hope the weight thing is just a blip (or faulty scales )

Aberdeen - forgot to say, thanks for tip re Sainsbury's rice dream. It really is much cheaper, which makes a huge difference.

Dorothy has been very unsettled again today - so much so that I gave her Baby Gaviscon for the first time. She showed all the signs of being about to be sick ... and wasn't! But also seemed to feed less. We'll see how the 10.30 feed goes. God I hate all the two-steps-forward-one-step-back thing, and the nervousness as well ...D crying ... after Gaviscon. Will go and see.

debinaustria · 19/08/2008 20:00

Isn't it lovely to hear your baby laugh Amber, Ethan did it for the 1st time properly when I was out shopping and he was here with dh. - typical.

Ernest - lovely to see you back - and you lucky thing, school tomorrow, my boys have 2 more weeks yet !! How's Adele?

DQ - sorry you didn't have a full sleep either

Tonight Ethan has gone to bed in a sleeping bag for the 1st time as he keeps moving round the cot, and waking me up headbutting one side and kicking the other so fingers crossed for tonight !

alipalli · 19/08/2008 20:14

Ernest welcome back after your long summer of 4 children in the house. I shudder to think what it must be like.

Makecakes nice to see you back on the thread too. The London ladies are getting quite social, I seem to remember you are somewhere south of the river. Just shout if you want to join the RL meet ups.

Deb thanks for the link to your site. I have sent it onto the other two couples to have a look at. They fall into the category of thinking that the only place for skiing is the Tarantaise , so it could well not happen. Also, my PILs are in North Yorkshire (near Yarm), maybe when you have moved back we could arrange a RL meet up. Ethan and Peter will probably be toddlers by then though

Having got lost trying to find the centre of Wimbledon this morning (pathetic I know) I made a better job of escaping from the Wombles on the way home. Thanks for the directions Mamawizz.

We had a peaceful afternoon, and Peter is now asleep. This is a major breakthrough. In the last week he has regularly started going to sleep late afternoon and then sleeping for much of the evening. I am so chuffed as it means that I am now able to tidy up a bit, do some cooking and even write on Mumsnet at about this time. I'm sure that those of you with sleepy babies have no idea why this makes me so happy, but believe me, after 9 weeks of a baby that stays awake all day it feels great. DH is a bit sad because he does not get to see Peter awake though .

Go Luke on the laughing. Peter isn't laughing yet, but I love these pictures that my MIL took of him smiling here
