Monkeysmama - great will look out for your order! the gilets come up fairly small sized wise - i would say for this winter a small would work well as it will see dd through from say mid october through to the end of spring. and remember it will be layered with other stuff under it?

also if you don't fancy a gilet, i can't say enough how brilliant the hats are! they are soooo cool and stay on really well, even without a strap that goes under the chin.

anyway enough about my business! sorry ladies

how is everyone else?

LM are you there? fancy a meetup anytime soon anyone, and I'll get in touch with ycbs if you all let me know when suits.

Mitchell-Have a look at it on line and let me know if you want it. I have two having pressed "order" twice and then missing the return date so it has never been used.

I quite like it but having said that I did buy a new Sleepy Nico (or Sleeping Nico?) a few weeks back because the Wilkinet can be a pain to tie on. It doesn't have any buckles or anything which is useful sometimes but it means when you untie it there are straps everywhere! Depends what you want it for but I am happy to give it to a happy home for a small donation to charity.

What are you all doing with the little baby clothes your dcs have grown out of? I have 10 Mamas and Papas white babygrows dd never even wore, as well as almost a full bin bag of new and nearly new togs. I've given things to our local women's refuge before but when I haven't heard back since I asked if they'd like the baby things....

I noticed a few posts about dcs waking in the night. I have started trying to bath dd before bed and to get into some kind of routine again. Last night it was a disaster! She had a great bath but then screamed for almost an hour refusing milk, play, sleep. Eventually I took her for a stroll around the house and tried again. Almost 3 hours later she fell asleep only to wake up at 1am, 230, 4 and 6. Could it be teething?

MM

thefortbuilder · 04/09/2008 13:11

MM possibly teething but maybe change i nthe temperature etc? i know that always affected ds1 really badly.

we have been really strict with a bath and bed routine right from the start with both of them - it goes something like this:

645 run bath and bathe sam. jacob runs around like a maniac whilst i do this

700 get sam dressed for bed and in sleeping bag, then give milk (attempt to get 210mls or more into him). while feeding him put jacob on toilet and then into bath, and carry on feeding sam in bathroom...

this goes on till about 715 ish then sam normally finished milk and burped, by which time jacob is out of bath and running around again like a maniac...

730 jacob in bed with bottle of milk and nightlight on.

732 flick is downstairs pouring the wine

MM once you do it a few times they get used to it - sometimes i put in some massage with oil for ds2 which he really likes! i find that a really deep quite warm bath helps to use up all their last energy

gpka @ btinternet dot com

asicsgirl · 05/09/2008 09:48

flick v impressed with yr bedtime routine! but how do you get jacob in and out of bath etc while feeding sam?

atm ds2 is still going to bed around 9:30-10pm, but then he does usually sleep for a good while after that so it suits us. ds1 was the same and his bedtime gradually moved earlier...

mm good question re. the grown-out-of baby clothes. we also have some lovely things that are unworn. i guess:

  • stretched/ too foxed -> recycling
  • good enough to use again -> charity shop or 'for free' on mn
  • unused/ as new -> keep to pass on, or maybe ebay? could always give proceeds to charity

this is all theoretical anyway as chances of me finding time to sort it all before xmas seem pretty slim!

ds1 started school yest!!!! he was SO excited. just doing 2 mornings in the nursery class, and staying at nursery for 2 full days for time being. get distinct impression he'd go to school full time if he could tho', lol. he is so proud of himself, with his little book bag and all. so cute.

right off to ebay now to see if i can find a baby bjorn cover. blardy weather!!!

thefortbuilder · 05/09/2008 10:46

asics ds1 started off late like that and moved earlier but sam has always been earlier iyswim and it's a bit of a struggle to sort them both out at the same time on your own - au pair helps at moment but is leaving on sunday and we are without anyone for a week or so!

if you have things lo's are growing out of etc check out the mumsnet christmas appeal which is being run by stgeorge - it's mainly preloved things this year and is a fantastic MN thing.

not much else to report - ladies if you have ordered your things are on their way and will be sent to you as soon as possible!

thanks flick for tip about mn appeal - will look for it, sounds ideal

Hi

Has been a while since I've got round to posting! Been on hols in the Lake District but came back early due to it pouring with rain every 5 seconds!

But while we were away ds started sleeping through, he suddenly decided he wasn't interested when we woke him for his 10.30pm feed so we stopped waking him and the last few nights he's been doing 7pm-8.30am so that's great!

Still doing my diet, lost about 11 lbs so far but still want to lose another stone at least.

I'm planning on passing on some of my baby clothes to friends as I know a few people who are currently pregnant, but am keeping a fair amount as hopefully will have another baby at some point!

Hope everyone else is well, YCNBS it's a shame you had to leave but it does sound like someone was watching you so can understand why.

gingerwench · 05/09/2008 12:41

hello all
I've not spent som much time on MN or the internet generally now that DS is so much more alert and needing more interaction and engagement from me. We had a couple of disrupted nights/days and a phenomenally nasty dirty nappy but thankfully my mother was staying and helped us diagnose teething. He's not even 3 calendar months old yet so although he's been dribbling for a couple of weeks I didn't connect his fractiousness and fussy feeding at first. I thought teething would come later. We've started using teething gel - Calgel- applied via a teething soother and it is almost instantaneous in its effect and my happy smiley boy has returned.

Does anyone have any advice/recommendations about those baby bouncers you attach to doorways? DS has wanted to practise standing up for some weeks now and is keen to do it as much as possible and most of the time he only relies on us supporting him for some balance and cries to do it. I thought a bouncer might give my arms some respite and amuse him at the same time. Is he too young to use one do you think? My mother is convince he will skip crawling entirely and go from sitting to cruising/walking in one bound (but it could just be her undeniable pride in her grandson that makes her think this?!)

magicfairy · 05/09/2008 15:24

hi all,

gw - ds1 went in a baby bouncer at 6 months, we did try him earlier as he always wanted to stand up but he freaked as he was kinda just dangling there. i think when they have the strength in thier legs to bounce then they love it, however they do say from when they can hold there head up.

Well all is good here, ds2 is lovely and happy most of the time and is amazed by his older brother being silly for him!! He is definatly teething though, have had sucispions for a while now and yesterdayt tryed some theething gel and ahhh, happy boy again!!
although he had his secound lots of jabs yesterday (4 weeks late?!?), it was horrible he has laughing and gurgling at the nurse then she stabbed him and his poor little face went soooo sad and red then he screamed, but was back laughing after a minute!!
He is still sleeping rubbish, he has started going down betwen 7 and 8 then he wakes around between 1 and 1 then it can be anytime from then on. on average he wakes about twice between 1 and 7. im not sure if as he sleeps with us still he doesnt get a full feed as he falls asleep feeding, dont know as i fall back to sleep as soon as hes latched on and i cant bring myself to get out of bed to feed him! Oh well ds1 was the same and he now sleeps a good 11 hours.
Well the rain has finally stopped and the sun is shining, but both boys are asleep!! Im sure it will start raining when they wake up!
Ds1 is 2 next week and is having a party here on sunday, it started off with just a few of his freinds, now family are coming, grannies, great grannies, cousins etc etc, and i am no longer looking forward to it, am i a party pooper or what?

magicfairy · 05/09/2008 15:27

ooops he wakes between 11 and 1! and i apologise for my awful spelling and typing!

magicfairy · 05/09/2008 15:28

oh i also meant to ask lm74 - you alright? you not been on for ages? very unilke you

baiyu · 05/09/2008 15:40

asicsgirl have you tried the mini-pill? that's what i'm using and it's safe while you are breastfeeding.

gingerwench Finn absolutely loves his door-bouncer. Come over and have a shot if you want to try before you buy! See you on Monday anyway

Just back from a lovely swim and lunch with walkingwomb. Finn absolutely loves the water, he's really kicking his legs already.

monkeysmama If mitchell decides the wilkinet isn't suitable, I'm interested too!

Hope you're all well xxx

gingerwench · 05/09/2008 15:44

Thanks Magicfairy
Hey Baiyu that sounhds like a fab idea - let's talk Monday! Glad you had a good time with Walkingwomb it sounds great fun.

happycamper10180 · 07/09/2008 17:40

Hi all

On the subject of door bouncers - does anyone else find it a nightmare getting their LOs in and out? We can only do it if me and DP are both available and even then it seems a bit complicated. I wonder if I'm doing something wrong...
Worst bit is DS just stands there looking perplexed once he's in so all the faffing about is a bit pointless. Think maybe he's still a bit young.

thefortbuilder · 08/09/2008 09:10

about door bouncers - we got one for ds1 when he was 7 months - luckily got it in nz so it was dead cheap as he bounced up and down mybe 10 times - not 10 goes, 10 bounces . and yes it was a real b**r to get him in and out. so we have freecycled it and ds 2 just won't have one.

luckymummy are you there????

not much else to say really sam is doing well, jacob is doing well and we all got wet puddle (or piddle as jacob says) jumping yesterday

OP posts:
happycamper10180 · 08/09/2008 17:25

So glad it's not just me, I might try it again when DS is a bit older but probably another freecycle donation coming up.

Puddle (piddle) jumping sounds like fun! I need to buy an umbrella so I can use the sling and not be housebound in bad weather. DS has decided he hates his pram and screams everytime he goes in it so I've given up and just keep using the sling. I don't know if he'd be happier with the pram in the upright position but I'm a bit worried about his little head bouncing around as it's only meant to go that way from 6 months.

Hope everyone's well.

thefortbuilder · 08/09/2008 18:08

HC sam is upright and has been for since mid june (3 months)

OP posts:
macaco · 08/09/2008 19:41

Hi all. HC, when we saw the paed at 4and a half months she told me to put DS in pushchair. Said the car seat/pram body wasn't stimulating enough and the push chair would encourage him to sit forward. He loves it.

Mocat · 09/09/2008 16:37

Hi all. Just found my new childminder and extended my leave by 6 weeks - I feel like a weight has been lifted from my shoulders!!

macaco That's good to know about moving them up to the pushchair; DS has been sitting up whenever he gets the chance but I was wondering when I should change over to the pushchair. No time like the present .

To whoever is still in contact with LM74 and ycbs, please send them my best wishes.

happycamper10180 · 09/09/2008 16:39

Have to admit I tried it today before even seeing these messages . He was much happier so I think we'll be sticking with it.

Am I on the right thread - all your babies must have been born earlier than May? [slightly confused emoticon]

Mitchell81 · 09/09/2008 18:52

Happycamper: Afew mums had their babies earlier than May, but we all got on so well, they stayed on this antenatal/postnatal thread.

macaco · 09/09/2008 18:53

My Ds was due end of April but I thought he's be a typical first baby and be overdue and be first of May so joined the May thread. Then he arrived 4 weeks early on 26th March! So he'll be 6 months at the end of this month.
Seriously, the pushchair is fab. He was getting fed up of the pram (and too big!) by 4 months. I thought you had to wait til 6mo for the pushcahir so was thrilled when paed said to go for it. It encourages he to sit up and look around but you can lie it back if he's tired or falls asleep. Also has a lot of padding round the head (jané) so no worries about head lolling.

thefortbuilder · 09/09/2008 19:45

ds2 was vorn 6 weeks prem on 20th march so he's getting on for 6 months already!

will pass on messages to ycbs but i didn't know LM had left as well - did i miss that?
