flick - LM74 didn't say anything about leaving but she hasn't posted in ages. Hope she's alright.

I tried DS in the pushchair but it wasn't a success. He didn't like being bolt upright and reclining it didn't seem to improve matters much. Maybe back to the matrix for another few weeks?

Has anyone started spoon feeds yet? I'm still holding out for 6 months. DS will be five months in another fortnight.

thefortbuilder · 10/09/2008 10:45

yes mocat i've wondered aloud a couple of times where she is but was worried i had msised something (quite probable normally!)

we are holding out till 6 months here even though sam is pretty big and has stepped up his milk feeds a notch in the last few days! awake at midnight and then 5am...

i feel quite strongly about waiting till 6 months personally but obvisly it's anyone's call for their own lo's.

OP posts:
asicsgirl · 10/09/2008 11:00

hallo!

mocat glad you got cm and leave sorted - i know how stressful it is trying to get childcare you are happy with - it was a bit of a nightmare with ds1, tho' am hoping it will be easier with ds2 as he will go to ds1's nursery so we get first dibs as existing parents iyswim. i'm not going back to work till april though hurrah!

macaco and others - ds2 is in pushchair now too tho' it is pretty reclined still. he def likes being able to see the world going by. i still use the sling mostly tbh as it's so convenient and i like having him on me also he will stay asleep when i come in if he's in the sling - i went for lunch with a friend yest and he slept for 2.5 hours in sling while we gossiped... brilliant.

ds2 still v unkeen to sleep in his bed in the day though. he will go back down for an hour or so most mornings after his first feed but after that no chance. he can be solidly asleep then wakes up 3 mins after i put him down. anyone else have this? atm i bung him in the sling if he's really tired - he will squawk for a bit then drops off. but he's getting heavier so need to think abt how to get him to nap in cot...

re weaning - we are going to do baby-led weaning again as it worked well with ds1 (and was quite a hoot too iirc). so ds2'll be exclusively bf until 6 months and then we'll see if he's ready. he's fascinated by food so i think he might go for it quite quickly. i can't remember who linked to the baby banana site - was it you flick? - but it's got loads of really useful info for anyone thinking about this approach.

quiet day for us today as ds1 at nursery and dp in bed with cold! he has said he will entertain ds2 for a while later tho' while i go for a run

have a nice one everyone x

happycamper10180 · 10/09/2008 11:05

Lots of babies in a rush to discover the world! It is nice having a mix of ages and people with older DC to offer advice.

flick sympathise with the increased feeding. DS has gone from sleeping through to up once and now up twice in the night. Will probably be feeding all night by 6 months but I know it's right for us to wait (family history of allergies, digestive problems, etc.)

luckymummy74 · 10/09/2008 16:16

Hi all,

Sorry I haven't been on for a while. There's a few reasons. Not that I don't love you all but I realised just how much of my time was being taken up by MNing . I was almost obsessed, coming on 2-3 times a day (as you all know ). I'm afraid I'm a bit of an all or nothing kinda gal, so I decided to go cold turkey . I've definitely had more time on my hands, which is quite useful with 2 young kiddies!

Also, I am feeling loads better now, but I really did think I had PND, I was really low for a few weeks, I spoke about it a bit on here. I went to the GP, who thought I was fine. I spoke to one of my BFs who had it quite bad, and our symptoms seemed similar. Anyway, the short story is, it all happened around the time I was stopping BF and a few days later I had my first period, so in retrospect, I feel it was probably all hormones (damn those hormones!!)

I did miss you all, and I haven't read all the posts properly yet but did see a few messages asking if I was OK, so thanks to those who were thinking of me .

Things are OK here. The girls are sharing a room now, which seems to be going OK.

DD2 has been referred to Opthamology as my Dad who is a photographer noticed she had yellow/white instead of red eye in a few photos of her. I looked it up, and it can indicate a tumour called Retinoblastma. I'm pretty sure it's not as it's not present in every photo but we want to get it checked. Our 'urgent' appt came through today for 23 Oct .

My good MN friend Denny came for the weekend with her brood last week and my wonderful DH babysat all 4 kids so that me and Denny could go and see mamma mia!!!! What a star!! Loved the film too.

I'm having a wildly productive day today, go tthe girls coming over for dinner (3 of my BFs). I've cooked dinner, just needs re-heating (butternutsquash risotto) and made a pecan pie for pudding....yumbo! Also done loads of washing and ironing and tidying and put all my BF bits (other than my actual breasts ) on ebay! I am feeling GOOD!!

I am managing to time the girls napping together in the afternoon so I get a couple of hrs to do my chores.

However, they are just waking up.....

It's nice to be back, I will catch up on all the posts when I have time (in about a year!). Have I missed anything major??

Mitchell81 · 10/09/2008 16:48

Just a quick note to say so pleased to see you back LM74 hope with dd2 it proves to be nothing

luckymummy74 · 10/09/2008 17:07

Thanks Mtchell, I have just caught up on all the posts, suprisingly not as many now that YCBS and myslef aren't on here all day long . I am seriously chuffed at all who missed me. Thanks girls ;-)

asics I have just booked to have a Mirena coil fitted in Oct. EEk!! Tell me more about the injection whoever had that?

DD2 is still in the carrycot of her bugaboo, but does seem to be out-growing it so I think we will change it for the seat soon too. She is as heavy as Dd1 was when we moved her into the seat.

I've also had a revelation today, DD2 has been really grumpy, getting frustrated with every place I put her, whether it's on her back, front, in bumbo etc etc. She rolls constantly then gets stuck. yesterday it drove me mad, so today I got Dd1's highchair out and I've sat her in it for small periods today and she loves it!!! She's got a couple of those toys with suction that stick to the tray and she has been happy as larry all day today.

Forgot to say, my DD1 is gonna be a flower girl at my cousins wedding on saturday [proud but tearful mummy emotion].

See, here I go again, why I can't I just post then switch the computer off!!!

macaco · 11/09/2008 10:14

hi all
macaco i went back to work almost 4 weeks ago now. i only work from 3-6 mon-fri and i take comfort from knowing dd is just around the corner at my mums

asicsgirl my dd is the same with waking up as soon as she is put down. we'v tried putting her in every position, have even tried swaddling her again as apaerently this worked with my brother at the same age

well this week dd has decided to wake at 230 every morning to have a 'sing' and/or a play, this is a baby thats pretty much had a full nights sleep since birth so suppose i cant complain too much
all seems to be getting good on the pnd front, i am feeling better in myself and the hv seems happy with me as well which is good

hope everyone is well

shonnomanom · 12/09/2008 09:57

happycamper10180 · 12/09/2008 16:25

asics girl and shonnomanom DS is asleep in the sling now. He sleeps so well in there and wakes up so quickly anywhere else. If you figure out how to break the habit please let me know...
For the moment I'm happy to have him snuggled up to me while he's still small and cuddly but he is growing very fast and I should really get him sleeping in the cot before he gets too much heavier. Gives me a great excuse for spending a lot of time on the computer and being unable to do housework (I know slings leave your hands free so you can do a lot of things but DP doesn't seem to have realised this )

I think I live in the only city in the country with no asda, I'm hoping some of the offers are available online as we are just about in a delivery area.

luckymummy74 · 12/09/2008 16:31

Hi all,

Yes I will email YCBS and explain my absence .

I'm not going back to work til at least Feb 09, which is fab. I might even try and take the full year if finances allow as I won't be going on mat leave again.

My SIL has just told us all she is 5 months pregnant . Not planned, they are getting divorced and living in seperate houses, although we all noticed how they had been getting on better since she moved out with the other kids, we didn't realise quite how well . So DH's sisters will have 4 kids each. Braver women than I am!!

I will be checking out the Asda thing soon...

Evening ladies

I haven't been on for a while - RL seems to have taken over a bit recently.

Pina - snap! Dd is having bad teething pain - she's been crying and crying and holding my hands up against her face and ears . I feel so sorry for her. I have been using Dentinox (or something) and a powder and she's had Calpol twice but I am not quite sure what I can do that will help. She has also stopped even trying to roll over and seems to be less interested in feeding and prefers to play with my boobs. I wonder if it is all related to the teething? BTW she is exactly 4 months today.

I am feeling really tired tonight. We had some friends over for a lovely (if I may say so myself!) meal last night and didn't get to bed until around 2am. Of course the only morning we needed dd to sleep until late she was awake and playful at 615.

Has anyone got a Bloom Frescoe chair? We got a Bloom baby seat a few months ago and apart from the straps being far too wide and big it is great. I really want a chair that moves up and down and can recline etc and the Bloom one looks good.

What was the suggestion about a London meet? If I can make it I'd love to come along with monkeybaby.

Hope everyone has a good week.

MM

Niknak21 · 15/09/2008 05:44

Morning all,

Been offline/busy for ages and only just kept up with read posts over last few weeks. It's hard work this mumsnetting!

Just wanted to post about teeth. Was very surprised to find one in DS2's mouth a couple of weeks ago, when he was just about 3 months old. We're lucky and don't get the nightmare teething problems, well didn't with DS1 and hoped it would be the same second time round. But was quite freaked out for my boobs. The 2nd one popped through a few days later. Things have been a little more sensitive but no proper biting yet.

DS1 was 6 mnths when he got his 1st, nice and average......And when I had just given up breastfeeding him.

Speaking from a professional angle I would try ibuprofen for teething pain. Unless you have family history of asthma. Since it's anti inflammatory in theory should work better than paracetamol.

pina having thoughts about weaning too, can't remember what I did for DS1 and was wondering about baby led feeding, but I think I'm too conventional....

The work thing for me is tricky, since I don't have a job to go back to, but had to book in bump to nursery when I was 12 weeks pregnant so asked for same days as DS2 from January. I'm really pleased with the nursery and my DH likes the walk (only 10 mins). Unfortunately I couldn't get the same sessions as DS1 cos it's so popular. They told me one Mum had booked in at 6 wks pregnant! I'm far too superstitious to have done it before the 1st scan. So DS2 has settling in at end of Jan/start of Feb, then some sessions same as DS1, but can't get all til May 2009. Which leaves finding a job v hard with only 2 possible days from Feb and 3 from May. Not that I'm desperate to work, but the finances are tight now so will be even worse come the New Year.

I cane feel a rant coming on about being a female worker etc etc, will have to take LM74 tactic and turn off the computer.

luckymummy74 · 15/09/2008 09:42

Morning all,

We've had a fab weekend. My cousin's wedding went really well, we all had a great day. The girls were both good as gold and DD1 was the best flower girl ever! She looked stunning in her dress and considering she is only 2 yrs old, she did really well walking up the aisle in front of the bride etc.
DD2 was brilliant all day too, amazingly. We decided the night before to put the seat on the bugaboo (instead of the carrycot which she is outgrowing). She loved sitting up seeing everyone, then we could tip her back for sleeps.
We had to come home at 10pm as they were both knackered (which was a shame as it was a great disco and I wanted to dance all night long!!), we all got to bed at 11pm, and we had to wake dd1 up at 10am yesterday!!!!

Yesterday I did a really tough 2 hour hilly bike ride with a friend (about 30 miles) and then DH took me out for dinner last night!!

So all is well and v happy in luckymummy's house today.

I am wondering if DD2 is teething, she seems so much more dribbly than DD1 ever was, DD1 didn't get any teeth til 9 months.
I have to have a bib on DD2 constantly or she soaks her clothes in dribble (nice!).
I can highly recommend the Nelson's teething granules powder thingies for teething. Very easy to administer, just lie them on their back and tip them in their mouth. Just be aware that as it's white powder, other folk may think your 4 month old baby has a coke habit if they see white powder around the edge of their mouth .

DD2 rolled back to front at 4 months exactly, and this morning rolled from her front back onto her back!!

Right, best be off. The house is a tip! I have just sold all my nursing bras etc on ebay and need to pack them all up to post.

Have a good day all .

i'm going with anbesol for teething pain releif - it's a liwquid and you dab it on and it's instant pain releif and antiseptic too. it's basically the stuff they put i nthe gel but more concentrated.

sam has got big lumps in his bottom gum so they're def on the way.

i feel quite strongly about waiting till 6 months to wean - sorry no preaching, there are lots of others on MN who will do so!!! baby led weaning is great although i'm not sure i'm going to do it, but we're waiting till this saturday when sam will be 6m, as he's waking up in the night more nad getting through a huge amount of milk during the day so he's definitely getting towards it. the loss of interest pina may be due to teeth coming through as well.

meet up this friday the 19th somewhere on the kings road - let me know who's interested and email me at lysetteparbhu at yahoo dot co dot uk and i'll send you my number.

Anyway, not much else here, sam is yelling so must go

Hi everyone. speaking of teeth, just felt a sharp edge in DS's gums so looks like he's teething too (6mo next week). It's not bothering him at all. he is dribbling a lot but he's been doing that since he was 4 months!
We've been doing some baby rice and pureed fruit just very recently (the advice in Spain is to wean from 4 months...I waited til DS was 5.5 as I thought 4 mo too early for him). He loves it! I think the favourite so far has been avocado. I'm making it myself mostly and freezing in ice cube trays. Although I'm not against the odd jar, but it's not hard to do it yourself and i think it's nice for him to have some real fruit and veg. Trying some carrot today!

Still following the advice from healthy sleep habits, happy child. Anyone else get the book? What did you think?
Things have gone a bit skew whiff the last couple of days...the naps have been very short and all over the place, perhaps the tooth bothering him?
So, trying to get back on track to:
first feed 7am
first nap as near to 9 as poss for hour and a half or 2 hours
feed 11am
2nd nap 1pm ish for same length of time
feed 3pm
shorter nap around 5 ish
feed 7pm and straight to bed.
Feeds are up to 240ml now. I can't do fl oz. How do you lot know? Does the tin of formula tell you how to measure in fl oz? My tin has all the measurements in ml and they don't correspond well to fl oz.
got friends coming on wed for a week (they're going away in the middle of it) so really need to do some cleaning...the house is a mess!

Mocat · 15/09/2008 12:23

Trying to get DS to six months but he's feeding every two hours, sometimes one hour after. At the moment I can do it because I am off work and will be until DS is 7 months (he'll be 5 months on the 22nd Sept). I don't like the thought of him being ravenous!!! Last night we nearly caved in and DH was in the kitchen pealing and slicing an apple to stew when I decided to stick with BF only. It turned out that DS was upset because of his gums not hunger so I had misread the signs. Loads of drool (bibs on here most of the time too) and chewing and ear holding. I've just ordered a starter kit from here [www.totspots.co.uk] for weaning time. Seems great value and no nasty chemicals in the plastic either.

Niknak21 · 15/09/2008 14:42

does anyone else find the word 'weaning' confusing?

I always relate it to weaning off breast, not weaning onto solids.....

I think I started DS1 on solids at 23 wks, just before he went to nursery, and I know they say 26 wks now. But I'm sure it was still 4mnths the year before he was born (4yrs ago). A friend of mine with a 14 yr old and 11 year old said advice went from 3mnths to 4mnths in between having her 2.I just wish they would make up their minds, I'm confused enough with the vocab alone!

Also thought I would say I don't recommend you start to ease teething with ibuprofen, but it's the last resort after the gels, powders, or anything else you can try topically fail to help the poor little things.

thefortbuilder · 15/09/2008 17:40

hey macaco we are going to do all homemade stuff as we did with ds1 although the plum baby foods and ellas kitchen ones are fantastic - all organic and no nasties in them. a great piece of advice i had was to use them on an odd occasion so that if you are travelling and do need to use them (for instance we are going to langkawi in october) your baby doesn't get a shock and decide they can't be doing with them!

not much else to say here except what lovely weather!!!

OP posts:
macaco · 15/09/2008 18:49

that's my plan too flick. He's had a baby jar and was fine with it. Can't get the ones you said as I'm in Spain.
langkawi is gorgeous, have a lovely time!
