not much to say here - the chicken pox is on the mend and ds1 is doing pretty well with toilet training.

hope everyone well

Good morning girls!

So, we're back from our blissful 2 week holiday.

I've read back a few pages but have given up on trying to catch up. I hope everyone is okay & all babies are being smiley happy little people. One thing I did read was YCBS's goodbye which made me really sad. I can't believe people really descend to those depths! If anyone has her email etc can you say hey from me & dd and that we wish her & her little family lots of sunshine.

Our holiday was great but not event free (as is always the case in my world). We got stopped and held at the airport on the way out (at 6am) as they'd found traces of an explosive on the pram which turned out to be eithert toothpaste or some cleaning fluid.

When we finally arrived the 7month old dd of our mates was 3 weeks into being weaned. She "didn't like" any of the Italian food and would only eat English baby food & milk (which we didn't have). Several unfruitful days of visiting every shop in the area looking for food ensued. They resorted to trying new food every few hours, including bread sticks and biscuits. You may recall how excited I was about seeing my bf & her husband and introducing them to the baby. As it turned out I wasn't there when they arrived as I was accompanying our friend's dd to the doctor's and then hospital (I speak fluent Italian) with dehydration. Water isn't sweet enough for her so in several days she had drunk less than a bottle of water (with sugar in). She was kept in over night poor bubble but released fine and well then next day.

Then, with 4 days to go our beautiful villa got attacked by mosquitos (as in billions of them) which meant we had to evacuate and move to a hotel!

Having said all that dp, dd and I had a fantastic time and I am very sad to be back. Dp and I got on very, very well and laughed a lot. It was so nice having him around all the time for 2 weeks and I saw how dd enjoyed and thrived on it too.

Dd is doing great - she ate all the time while we were away which was my fault as I was worried she was thirsty. I am now exercising tough love and not responding with my boob everytime she screams. She is very angry with me!

Anyone else making decisions about going back to work? I have gone down to statutory pay which has been a bit of a shock. I am supposed to go back at the start of November and we've decided I am going to write and ask to work part time which I am almost sure they'll decline. If they do I'll defer going back for another 6 months. That will mean being supported by dp which we can afford but I feel a tad awkward about.

Anyway, enough from me. Nice to see some old names back and some new ones. Again, hope everyone is well and to YCBS if she's still checking our posts.

hallo to everyone

mm what an eventful holiday! lol at the pram being checked for explosives, i'm sure it was inconvenient but it does make for a funny story sure there are plenty of jokes about baby poo to be made... really glad you all had fun together.

mitchell i'm another baby bjorn-er and so far i haven't had any pain tho' ds2 is 14lb 5 now. i've got the one with back support which i found made a huge difference (got it when ds1 was wee as the 'standard' one was killing me). the only time i get shoulder pain is when i carry a heavyish rucksack as well as the baby bjorn. mind you dp has just bought a bushbaby 'cocoon' which he loves - it has loads of full on back support so might be a good bet too? i'm sure mumofkandj will have different ideas too! good luck and hope you are pain-free again soon.

flick glad chicken pox is going!

baiyu lovely to hear from you again!

and welcome to the new people

lm74 you ok? uncharacteristically quiet

all ok here. had a bonkers weekend as i had a mirena coil fitted on thurs and spent the weekend having anxiety attacks, bursting into tears at everything, etc etc. very weird. poor dp! i went to doc yesterday and got it taken out again don't know why i reacted so badly - all psychological as i hardly had any pain/ discomfort with it. i just couldn't get my head around the idea that this Thing was inside me especially as so many other people seem to love theirs (i've read all the mn threads on it!). i am an anxious person generally and suffered really badly with anxiety when ds1 was a baby - it was like being plunged back into those times, not a happy feeling at all. so i am just pleased to be shot of it!

means we are back to condoms though... hey ho. what is everyone else doing? if anyone can bear to share, lol. i hoped to persuade dp to have snip but he is quite worried about possible side effect of unexplained pain that is untreatable... fair enough. my mum got sterilised and she recommends it... hmm. need to think about it all again!

have a good day girls

thefortbuilder · 02/09/2008 11:09

AG we are on condoms as well - we have thought about a coil but dh isn't too keen on it, and to be honest neither am i. he's offered to get the snip so we may think about that in a while.

not much else to report here - sam has been screaming this morning, so much that i wasn't concentrating on coming u pthe cellar steps, slipped back, fell on the washing machine door and it came off...

and ds1 is sleeping terribly again so we were awake from 1150 till3am pretty much listening to him howling trying to calm him down - so i'm shattered.

nothing else remotely interesting to report!

asicsgirl · 02/09/2008 11:15

cheers flick and sorry you had a crap night! hope poor ds1 gets his sleep sorted out again soon.

sun is shining here!!!!! need to get out for walk but stuck in waiting for tesco delivery

shonnomanom · 02/09/2008 11:21

Hey everyone, hope ur all having a good week.
Thank goodness the rain has eventually stopped and the sunshine is shining - good times. Believe it or not but we had HailStones here yday!!

MM - I went back to work 3 weeks ago. Granted I only work 3 hours in the afternoon but it gets me out the house and my mum looks after dd when dp's shifts clash

We'r having nap time issues here. dd had a rough day last week where she refused to sleep at all during the day. Normally she sleeps in the cot when having a nap, but ever since that day she refuses to sleep anywhere other than in either dp or my arms. Fortunately she settles down fine at night herself.

shonnomanom · 02/09/2008 11:24

Mitchell81 · 02/09/2008 11:31

Asicsgirl:thanks for advice on carriers. I had the implant put in my arm, no problems at all and so far no periods. DH said he would have the snip, but I don't think I want anything to permanent just yet as you never know. Sorry you had such a bad reaction

Flick: Are you ok? I fell down two steps last week and have bruises all over my legs as I fell on my knees but caught my shin on the step.
Hope DS2 sleeping gets better

DS2 had his 16 week immunisations and was fine with 3 injections and weights 18lbs/ 8kgs he is 1kg heavy than ds1 at this age and 3kg heavier than DD.

Monkeysmama welcome back, glad you had a nice holiday inbetween all the drama, hope DD goes back to waiting longer between feeds.

asicsgirl · 02/09/2008 11:42

thanks sho and mitchell! i can't have implant as still bf, ditto pill.

mm i am not going back to work till end april i get quite good mat pay so i will only have 3 mo on no salary. dp is fine with this, although like you i feel awkward about it. i guess we are thinking there may be a time when he wants to cut down his hours/ change jobs/ whatever, so the balance may change back later.

i went back when ds1 was 7 mo but very part-time, using up accrued holiday days - is this something you could do for a while if you can't go part-time? i eventually went back 4 days per week, and dp went down to 4 days too, so ds1 was in nursery 3 days and with one or both of us the rest of the week. this worked really well for us, and meant we both had a work-life balance. i would not go back full-time now

thefortbuilder · 02/09/2008 11:48

thanks mitchel - am fine - just a sore ankle. i sprained it badly a few years ago and it's never been quite the same since!

ds2 sleeping is ok, it's ds1 (2.2) who has never been great and is going from bad to worse now!

OP posts:
Mitchell81 · 02/09/2008 11:55

Flick sorry misread, DS1 is similar age and he has started waking in the night(every night) coming to our bed but as DS2 is in our bed there is no space. So we have put a matress on the floor in his room so DH can sleep in there when he comes through to our room(he takes him back to bed and lies on the floor). Luckily he goes straight back to sleep though.

thefortbuilder · 02/09/2008 12:57

ds1 is normally a lot better than he was last night - normally straight back to sleep so i am going to think about moving him once he is asleep. problem is that dh loves napping with him at the weekends so he is getting into this nice routine of falling asleep in mummy papas bed...

anyone thinking of going to the baby show in earls court in october - i'm taking a stand!

monkeysmama · 02/09/2008 16:45

Flick - can you repost the link please? I had saved it to my faves to have a look at another time but seem to have lost it?!

thefortbuilder · 02/09/2008 18:06

mm here yes mitchell can't seem to find anywhere to put the colour at checkout on paypal - will get working on it and in the meantime if anyone does want to order just email me at the address on the site.

OP posts:
monkeysmama · 02/09/2008 20:57

Flick

Had a look again and am loving the booties. My dd is quite a funky dresser so I am going to order at least one pair tomorrow. BTW I am using my hand held to post now. I don't know how common this is but the text is very hard to see on a small screen. The gilets are cool. I think they smallest size is for 1yr olds though? Otherwise I'd love one for dd.

I am really tired and a bit down really. I looked forward to our holiday so much and now feel a bit lost and lonely. I wish dp was at home more. We have a lot of fun when it is the three of us.

monkeysmama · 02/09/2008 21:03

I forgot to say re slings. I've bought my 4th. A Sleepy Nico which is the best I have. Very quick to put on, seems comfy for dd who prefers it to all the others. It is very useful around house too. I have it in blue cord which isn't incredibly stylish but it works a treat. I have an extra black Wilkinet if anyone would like it?

Mitchell81 · 03/09/2008 08:29

Monkeysmama: What would you like for the Wilkinet? Haven't looked yet but will go see what I think of it and whether it would be better than what I have?
I agree after planning to go away coming back to normal everyday life is a bit depressing. Hope you get back to normal soon, Glad that you and DP got on so well.
