PIna - Glad the Christening went well. The photos look great and both girls looked gorgeous!! at your DH... Men, eh???? My Dh wants this car - I'm sold on it, because the one he currently has can't practically cope with the car seat (the seat has to go in the back, which means the passenger seat has no legroom... but this new one comes with an isofix adapter, to get round the problem!!

LM - Also at your pizza... I don't eat cheese, so pizza is homemade in my house... Can only do one variety though! I'd also like to thank you for setting me straight on sleeping bags - Harry is in them full time and sleeping SOOOO much better in them - he was a terror for kicking up a storm in his blankets!!!

MF - thanks for that link... Not sure how it works with bottle fed babies, though? [clueless emoticon!] Harry is 100% bottle fed now, but really agree with the 'sitting up' thing... Harry's strength is increasing daily, but he isn't there yet!

Hope you all have lovely bank holidays!

Flick - is 12:30 OK for you on Wednesday?

magicfairy · 25/08/2008 09:51

just a quicky
ycbs - as far as i am aware it shouldn't make much difference wether bottle or brest fed, the emphasis is that food should only be an adventure until 12 months and milk still the main source of calories.
We did a mixture of baby led weaning and spoon feeding as we started with spoon feeding then switched to baby led 100% but ds1 was getting very upset at meal times and just wanted a bit more than what he could give himself, but i do swear that him being able to help himself from the start has made him such a good eater and he has been able to use cutlery from aout 12 months.
Pina- thanks but the weather was yuck for the party, only his true freinds turned up, but it was nice nonetheless, ds1 loved running around in the mizzle in the dark watching the flashing lights and dancing around the fire!!! I think i have a little raver!!
Anyway off to mums now for lunch, its drizzle mizzle again here, oh waht joy!!

Mitchell81 · 25/08/2008 12:27

YCBS: Glad that DH likes the house and is happy with his new carNever heard the 16lbs rule, DS2 should have already started then..

Flick glad that you seem to have cracked potty training.

thegruffaloschild: Lucky to be spoilt by your mom on holiday

Magicfairy: Sorry that DS1 is pushing the boundaries, we have the same problem here. Thank fully it isn't all the time.

Mocat: No advice on the mattress as bought one for DS1 and DS will use the same one as DS1 slept in his cot maybe twice!!!!
Weaning will only be starting at 6 months as so much easier when only drinking milk. DS1 is not fussy and eats everything and started at 6 months. DD started at 16 weeks as that was the rule back then, but will be waiting until 6 months again.
My C-section isn't sore just every now and again feels tender or sensitive when on a long walk.

Lm74: Your food sounded delicious

Pina: So pleased that the christening went well and the photos are gorgeous. Hope DH helped get everything sorted once he woke with a hangover.

Asicsgirl Hope you enjoyed your break during the Kite flying

Hope everyone is enjoying there bank holiday, We had a lovely weekend and break from holding DS2 as had my cousin to babysit. Had a busy weekend with BBQ's and walking around a loch. Weather was good for a change.

Mocat · 25/08/2008 14:37

Thanks for the advice, ladies.

YCBS - I hadn't realised that you had had a section. I am really impressed that you have been out walking 4 miles daily since the early weeks. There is no way I could have managed that. You must have a very high pain threshold not low as you suggested!

magicfairy - Thanks for the website; it was a fascinating read. I'm due back at work when DS will be 6 months but I think I've decided to postpone my return for a month or so after that so that I may wean him at 6 months. He really is still enjoying the BFs and is thriving so if it ain't broken ...

pina - It's silly of me to be reassured by others being zonked in the afternoon but I do . Thanks. I'm glad the christening went well.

Thanks Mitchell too.

youcannotbeserious · 25/08/2008 19:24

Yes, mocat planned CS.. Perfect!!! Was up and about the next day and have been walking every day since.

Hope you have all enjoyed the bank holiday. I've had a crap day... Just being reminded at every turn how lonely I am... And Harry is as whingey as sin ALL DAY!!
Still DH back on THursday this week.

youcannotbeserious · 25/08/2008 21:02

I'm afraid I've made the difficult decision to leave MN.

a couple of things have happened recently to make me believe I'm being watched. The last of these makes me sure it must be from MN as it's the only place the information can have come from.

I'm sad to feel I have to do this, but it's just too much of a coincidence.

I've always felt rather 'anonomous' with my posts, but too much of what I say gets mentioned... lastly about the house I posted about: My DH's ex already knows about it? I haven't mentioned it to another soul except here...

I know it's an open forum, so it was always a risk. So, I'm going to close my account now.

My e-mail will work for a while yet. But I'll close that too, after wednesday.

I will miss you guys, but feel this is for the best.

I am so sorry YCBS

asicsgirl · 26/08/2008 09:59

oh ycbs so sorry to hear that. i noticed you had taken yr profile down a little while ago but didn't think anything of it. will really miss you

thefortbuilder · 26/08/2008 11:10

mocat - you'll jinx us! although we are now on day 6 without any accidents! yay

ycbs 1230 is fine for us there - can you email me at lysetteparbhu at yahoo dot co dot uk with your mobile number? otherwise look out for phil & teds in black, with dark haired boy with glasses in the front (either that or sleeping with thumb in mouth and muslin!

i am with mocat on the weaning thing - absolutely have nevber heard the 16lb rule, and as far as i'm aware from all the advice i've had on weaning (Rl and on here), it actually doesn't matter how big they are, it's whether the gut is properly devloped - have a look on some of the weaning debates and there are some great links (sorry mocat havnen't had a chance to look at your link yet) for why not too wean so early.

and whoever has the 4 week prem baby - the current advice from bliss is to wean at normal age - ie don't adjust, but don't do it too early - so around 6 months is best i believe. sorry i'm not preaching here although i'm sure it sounds like it

well, sam is coping well with the chicken pox, and the scabs are coming off so he's looking more back to normal now! and he can sit up onhis own for about 10 seconds! falls over then though.

not much else to report - sorry no personal responses, i'm just on here quickly as both boys have fallen asleep and i'm going to see if i can have a nap!

YCBS - I am really sorry to hear that you are leaving!! Crikey, I like to think of this as a place where I can discuss things without any fear of anyone I know reading it (although DH sometimes has a read over my shoulder so I don't mention him ). It's not a nice thought if you are being watched. Please God all will go well with you and your family. Take care.

thefortbuilder · 26/08/2008 17:53

ycbs - totally crossposted so sorry to hear you are leaving us - i know others who have come back after wanting to leave

anyway, have mailed you

Youcannotbeserious - Your going and i've only just come back !!! Can't you create a new name and leave your profile. I just like the chat on MN so dont bother with profiles. Not enough time now lol.

I have a question - my dd is 16 weeks now, she was a low birthweight at 5.4 but was induced at 37 weeks. She was weighed a week ago and was 10.8
She feeds well when she's awake. She has a good routine and has a bottle and goes to bed about 7-8pm. She usually wakes for feeding about 6.30 or 7 sometimes 8.
But just lately i notice she wakes at 7ish and lays practising baby babble, but if i don't get her up then she will sleep much later, sometimes past 10am!! Is this normal, should i be waking her ?

Of course there is the odd night where she will wake during the night but since she's had a gro bag she rarely does now.

babylove21 · 26/08/2008 23:11

Mocat
My dd has just moved into her cot a couple of weeks ago.
I bought a cot from Ikea, great value was only 59.99. they had a choice of 3 mattresses so iwent for the foam one at 19.99 which was the middle of the range. It's really very thick and so far my dd hasnt been able to leave a dent in it, unlike the crib mattress which i bought online for 23.00 ! as the crib was given to me with an old mattress.

baiyu · 27/08/2008 17:03

Hello! After nearly 2 months I'm back to the internet, gawd I've missed it and all of you! Does anyone still remember me? Lol. I've read back a few pages but can't manage more than that just now. I've a lot of catching up to do.
Finn is doing great, at 15 weeks he's 15lb 14oz and I'm still managing to exclusively breastfeed so pretty happy. We've just moved into our new flat. It needs a bit of work but it's a great location and an alright size.
How are you all? Hope everyone is doing well

macaco · 27/08/2008 18:18

Hi Baiyu, welcome back! I remember you....don't know if you remember me, an infrequent poster! Was wondering about you. Finn sounds like he's doing great.

happycamper10180 · 27/08/2008 18:33

Hello can I join you all?

My DS was born 28th May he was a couple of weeks early so even if I'd known mumsnet existed (can't believe I didn't discover it earlier) I'd have been on the June ante-natal club. He was back to back and our planned homebirth ended in hospital. If I've got the abbriviations right he is PFB (precious first born?) for me and DP.

No sign of any rolling yet but the young man has a gorgeous smile!

We've just had a bit of a rough patch (which may have been first injections, growth/development spurt, a cold or just one of those things) but our happy, smiley baby seems to have returned after a week of grumpy, crying baby. Not sure if anyone else experienced this around 12/13 weeks, would be interested to hear.

shonnomanom · 28/08/2008 11:10

Hey
Happycamper my dd was born May30th, she had similar behaviour about 2wks ago, she did take a wee growth spurt but the HV confirmed that she was preteething and suggested that she might be gettin ready for weaning - but I think il wait for dd to tell me that rather than believe the HV iykwim

Babylove my dd has a similar routine and quite often will just lie in the moses basket singing to herself - if she's happy im happy

Can I ask everyones opinion please

You may or maynot remember last wk when I posted that I said I have pnd, iv partially put this down to the reason why I dont want dd sleeping in her cot (which is in her room ) overnight although she does sleep in their during the day. I do feel im gettin the hang of my pnd now and have been thinking about moving her through. My problem here is we'r goin on holiday in October and she will definately be in the same room as us then, So should I move her through and risk a regression when we get back or just wait?? - I would love to hear your views on this please

Sorry it long winded - silent for ages then im all talktalktalk lol

sx

magicfairy · 28/08/2008 13:35

hi happy camper and shonnomanom

shon - i would suggest waiting, we have a similar dilemma, ds2's cot is attached to our bed with the side down so its eaiser for night feeds, although he sleeps better in his cot i bring him into our bed to feed and he generally stays there as i am too knackered to get him to sleep and put him back. So i have decided that after our holiday i will put the side up on the cot and move it away from the bed. but am wating until after holiday coz if ds1 doesnt take to his own room, he will have to go in the travel cot and ds2 will have to go in with us. Nayway they do recommend they stay in your room until 6 months, i know i was very reluctant to move ds1 out of our room!

Well ds2 is going througha nightmare phase, who knows why, he is feeding loads at night and in the day he is not sleping unless in the car, so by the end of the day he is very upset, hoping its gonna pass soon, fingers crossed he has actually been asleep for 2.5 hours today, oops, i knew that would happen as soon as i wrote that he woke up!!lol

Mitchell81 · 28/08/2008 14:18

hello and welcome happy camper

Magicfairy Sorry that you are missing sleep

Shonnomanom I would tend to agree with MF but saying that October is more than a month away and you might be able to stick with the same routine, just depends on how much you want to do it. I hope things are ok with your PND and you are getting help

Happycamper DS has gone through that phase since birth, he will be 16 weeks on monday.

Baiyu Welcome back, hope you are getting settled into your new flat and are enjoying your time with DP now that he is home

Babylove nice to see you, No advice on DD sleeping, as mine likes to be held when sleeping so generally when I am up he is up.

DS2 goes for his 3rd immunistaions on Monday, not looking forward to the 3 injections, as 2 seems fine to settle them, but three is just cruel.

Flick Hope you enjoyed your meet up

thefortbuilder · 28/08/2008 17:47

hey - yes we had a great meet up - lots of fun! ycbs harry is gorgeous!

so - i would wait. we had a similar sort of thing with ds1 when he was 11 months, he'd been in his own room from 2 months, getting himself to sleep well from 9 months and then we went on holiday to thailand for 2 weeks at 11 months - he was i nthe same room and it took us a good 8 months to get him happy sleeping on his own and getting himself to sleep again. an extreme case i know and lots of other factors thrown in, but i'd definitely wait!

not much else to say so will see you all tomorrow

luckymummy74 · 29/08/2008 14:01

Houston we have a problem.

DD2 has started rolling onto her tummy. I know this is good, but she only does it when she is really tired and in her cot, then she gets stuck on her tummy and really frustrated and screams the place down .

However, I have put them both down for a nap in the same room, see how that goes, in preparation for the room share.

happycamper10180 · 30/08/2008 12:21

Thanks for welcome!

Shonnomanom Sorry to hear your DD is preteething already.

Can't give any advice about the own room thing. DP is starting to make noises about DS moving out of our room but I'm not sure I'm ready.

magicfairy The car is the only way DP can get DS to sleep too! He'll sleep in the sling with me but for some reason not with DP. at the price of petrol these days - should be a stressed new parent tax credit on fuel!

Mitchell81 Poor you with a grumpy baby, I hope things get better at some point.

shonnomanom · 30/08/2008 12:40

Hey
Thanks everyone for ur views on moving dd through to her own room - think im goin to leave her be for the time being.

Mitchell thanks for ur concern over my pnd, im taking each day as it comes which seems to help a bit, although this coming week will be hard as my brother is leaving on wed to go travelling around Oz for a year

We'v had an odd couple of days here - dd refused point blank yday to sleep, she was quite happy though until I dropped her off at gp before work where she screamed the whole time. She eventually fell asleep after bathtime last night & has only woke since to be fed and changed! On the plus side she has been a happy camper in the short periods that she is awake

Have a good weekend everyone
Sx

Mitchell81 · 30/08/2008 20:43

LM: Hope DD is getting better with her rolling and getting frustrated

Mumofkandj if you reading or anyone else with sling knowledge. My baby bjorn is now hurting my shoulder when I carry DS around. So I need one that I can get which isn't difficult to use and I can do it myself and fairly quickly.Any advice?????
