new thread everyone!

Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
luckymummy74 · 21/08/2008 21:12

Not at all, I think if you can get it treated ASAP, it's much better. One of our criteria for bumping people up the waiting list is 'mother of small children'....

you see, we are really important people....

Pina - you all ready for tomorrow? Hope you have a lovely day!! Am a bit of you being able to talk your DH around to have another baby - DH is far too set in his opinions!!!!

lm - How are you feeling?

Hi to Mitchell, Asics and Flick!!!

Does everyone have plans for the long weekend? I only realised it was a bank holiday yesterday - DH isn't taking the day off!!!

Mitchell81 · 22/08/2008 08:50

LM; My book also arrived yesterday, now just need to read it.

Pina: I hope the weather is kind to you tomorrow, but even if you can't be outside everyone will understand that it wasn't what you had planned. Thanks for the message.

YCBS: No bank holiday for us in Scotland, we are going to a Highland games the one where Billy Connelly takes his famous friends. So hoping the weather is good.

Hope everyone enjoys there weekend. We are off to the park and petting zoo today and to do some shopping.

thefortbuilder · 22/08/2008 12:06

ycbs - i saw your harrods snta message said "shit" and rushed online to get my lot of tickets - turns out i've booked 3rd dec as well! we are going at 10am, so just enough time to have a lovely coffee after - we went last year and jacob hated it - wailed and screamed and cried at santa! hopefully he will be better this year.

we are all going to my parents tomorrow just for one night - got jacob a lovely new sleeping bag for the adventure, and also a travel stairgate as they are pretty hopeless down there - no child proofing whatsoever...

also bought him the most adorable little rucksack for his first day at nursery on 1 september!

OP posts:
youcannotbeserious · 22/08/2008 12:53

Yes, the tickets go quickly, don't they!?

I'm taking Harry at 12... DH is sure that he'll hate it and probably wail throughout the whole thing (we have a great photo of the DSDs in 2000 and DSD2 is wailing into her dad's chest at the sight of overgrown elves and a big beardy santa!! ) but I still think it'll be lovely (Novice first time mother alert!!!! )

Flick you still on for next Wednesday? What about meeting at Patisserie Valerie?

Mitchell Hope you enjoy the Highland games - I am such a star spotter, we had dinner with Jonathan Ross and his missus coming home from a GP one time and I was overawed (Even though I don't even much like Wossy!) and I nearly fainted once in Manchester when Posh and Becks were in the same restaurant as us along with the rest of the Man U team (Plus the lovely Giggsy!!) That would have been 1999, and DSD1 was SOOOO into thte Spice Girls... I am so sad! - is your CS scar OK now?

So where can I take Harry Headbanger on Monday? He's a bit young for too much, but I don't think I'll let that little fact put me off - Do you think the science museum will be packed?

Right, I'm off to collect a parcel guitar from ParcelFarce for DH.... No wonder we need a bigger house!

thefortbuilder · 22/08/2008 13:19

ycbs yes patisserie valerie is a great idea. and the science museum will be packed on monday i would imagine - especially if the weather is like this...

will get my thinking cap on!

lm74 that is very interesting re. physio, osteo, chiro work. osteos never seem to want/ be able to explain what they do to a lay person, tho' i have asked a few! can really see your problem with the nhs waiting lists. i know if i can't get to see an osteo within a couple of days of my back/ neck 'going', the treatment is much less likely to be completely successful. ikwym about people not doing their exercises too - dp used to share a flat with a physio and this was his major gripe. i could prob do with some info on how to lift/ do things differently to minimise my back pain, but as it is i'm quite lucky - i just have to get 'fixed' occasionally then usually ok for months.

ycbs you are so pro-active! my approach to things like christmas is usually to hide under the duvet until i absolutely have to do something, lol. not sure abt the science museum - my mum took me when i was four or five and i was terrified of all the loud noises apparently! but maybe harry will take it all in his stride... can't wait to take ds1 to all that kind of stuff.

patisserie valerie eh! sounds lovely... can i join you virtually?

flick awww at you buying a rucksack for jacob. ds1 has a littlelife one and i love it, he looks so cute.

we have no plans for the long weekend other than trying to stay away from crowds, we are such misanthropes, lol. have a lovely time everyone whatever you do x

luckymummy74 · 22/08/2008 14:20

Hi all,

Still feeling better . I'm going to a circuit training class tonight with a friend. I used to go pre-DD2 and loved it.

No major plans for the weekend here as DH is working all weekend. Just going to see his family on Sunday as they're back from hols now, and seeing a friend with a DS same age as DD1 on Monday.

pina re-night potty training. I know I have only just potty trained DD1, but she still wears a nappy at night (and for naps). She sleeps a minimum of 12 hours so her nappy is FULL when she gets up, hanging down by her knees it's so heavy!!! Her CM said that if her nappies are dry after naps (as they often are) it's a sign that she's ready to go nappy-less at night . Not sure I agree tbh, a 2 hr nap is very different to a 12/13 hour sleep. I think it's quite normal for them still to be in nappies at night til age 3 or 4yrs.
It doesn't really bother me either, so what if she wears one at night? It's not like she's 12!!!

Loads of luck for DD2's Christening tomorrow. I think it's meant to stay dry at least.

Mitchell81 · 22/08/2008 14:47

Flick: enjoy your night at your parents

YCBS: I am sure Harry will be a genius taken to the Science museum at 3 months, I probably shouldn't admit this but I haven't even been to a science museum!!!
I am pleased to say it is now closed as of a week or two ago.DS2 is now 14 weeks so 12 weeks later, I am still wearing dressing as they don't want anything to rub and open it again.

LM: Enjoy your circuit and well done on your cycle.

Asicsgirl Enjoy your weekend, hope you find something to do.

Where is everyone else????? If you reading say hi.

Anyone got one of those vibration exercise machines? They have good recommendations but not sure as they cost about £300. I like the idea of not doing very much.

Park was cancelled due to rain so we went to an indoor play area, DS2 enjoyed it.

Mitchell81 · 22/08/2008 14:49

vibration exercise machine

youcannotbeserious · 22/08/2008 17:03

Asics - I'm not sure I wouldv'e understood if the Osteo had explained what he did to me.. He made me lie on both sides, felt up and down my spine and then (from what I felt) located a spot and jumped on it (quite literally, it was quite barbaric and hurt like hell for that instance) but my back isntantly felt better and (though not perfect and very stiff this morning) is SOOO much better!!

Mitchell - LOL at Harry being a genius... I'm just determined to get out and about... My mum never did (my dad worked away for months at a time and was a tax exile for most of my childhood and I spent most of my childhood holidays on an oil tanker) and, as a result, I can be quite aloof - I find it very hard to open up to people in RL and never ask for help. Seriously... you guys know more about my life than people I see every day... And DH doesn't speak to many people... In fact, one of my neighbours recently asked me if he was Russian because she'd said hello to him and he just kept walking... so I really want to get Harry settled and have him make friends etc.,

Flick patisserie valerie it is! Hopefully. we'll be able to sit outside and scoff enjoy icecream!!! (asics - I'll have some for you - anyone else want me to eat Icecream on their behalf... I'm willing and able!! )

LM I hope you enjoy the circuit training!! I'm sure you will have a fab time... I know sounds horrid to say (and I wouldn't be without Harry for a second!) but sometimes I do miss not being able to take a class without considering what I'll do with Harry... I'm not really in a position to do anything of any evening (am not fit enough to this week, but YKWIM!) because I don't have a support network just yet...

PINA - A million Good wishes for tomorrow - I hope you all have a super time... i think the weather is supposed to be dry and not TOO chilly, so hopefully you are able to make use of the garden!

A big hello to anyone who's just reading... or who I've forgotten... must go and play with Harry now... He's found his voice and is just making noise... Not whinging, not laughing.. just making noise!!! DH will be so pleased!!!

Wish me well for tomorrow - I am taking DH to see our new place at 11am tomorrow.... He has a new guitar here waiting for him (like we Need another one so that will put him in a good mood!!)

YCBS x

thefortbuilder · 22/08/2008 17:18

also about toilet training here - jacob has gone almost 2 days with no accidents and no pull ups here now! and although he wears a nappy at night he doesn't wear one for naps. and to be perfectly honest he's actually been dry at night for a few months, although we're not going to test that one! it just sort of happened that way, which coupled with his climbing all over the loo shouting toiiiiiiliiiiiit at the top of his voice was the main indicator that he was ready for training!!!

OP posts:
luckymummy74 · 22/08/2008 20:32

well done Jacob!!! What a big boy. Well done Mummy too

Just back from circuits, it was really good and I managed more than I thought I would. The best bit was that it started at 7pm so DH had to put the girls to bed . I helped him a bit before I left but I think it made him realise how hard it can be.

Must jump in the shower.......more of a smellymummy than a luckymummy now (though still lucky)

thegruffaloschild · 22/08/2008 21:09

Had a lovely time at mymums last weekend, go t spoilt and nice to have help with the girls

DD2 had a bit of a cold and has been a bit grouchy.

I think i miught go to harords for santa for myself!!! LOL!

pina have a lovely day tomorrow.

ycbs lol at your osteo experience, sounds pretty typical! i have grown to love the crunches and clicks and bizarre positions involving cushions... what tickles me is how osteos all keep up a patter of conversation, presumably to distract you while they do their worst:

osteo: are you going on holiday?
me: yes we're ooh! going to hornsea
osteo: ah yes that's near hull isn't it
me: (muffled as face down) yes we're thinking of oof! going to the sea life centre
osteo: ah yes, i took my boys there. it was rubbish

etc

ice cream! yes please! pistachio please. and a nice big latte.

gruffalo glad you got a bit of a break at yr mum's.

ds1 and daddy have gone to the park now to fly ds1's polystyrene plane (ill-advised present from a friend - they are great but break sooooo easily) as it's not raining!!! and the sun is out!!! i've put my cutoffs on so doubtless it will be p*ing down by lunchtime...

magicfairy · 23/08/2008 13:56

Hi all, wow i ahvent been on for ages and its now on page 10, i cant possibly read through them!!
We have been away, camping, going to a freinds wedding, going to the zoo and generally having a lovely but wet and exhausting time of family stuff! its been lovely having dh around for 2 weeks although he did his back in on the first day of his hols!
Other than that life is incredibly hectic and i cant even find the time to come on here. Ds1 is being a monkey, really testing the boundaries at the mo, he is 2 in 2 weeks but the terible twos have well and truly started, lets hope early to start early to finish. Ds2 is still being lovely although has decided not to bother with daytime naps and is getting worse at night too! I think he is teething as he has permanent red cheeks and is a drooling hand chewing monster!!
Ds1 is being really over excitied with ds2, he just cant wait for him to play back, he has been really good so far with him baing gentle and stuff but yesterday i caught him sitting on ds2 and jumping up and down like he does to his daddy!! very hard to explain that he can to daddy but not to bubby!
Anyway ds2 getting grumps now, have a good weekend, we are off to a freinds memorial this evening, his twin puts on a mini festival/party every year, hopefully it will stay dry. no camping for us this time though, i am well and truly camped out!

Denny185 · 23/08/2008 14:34

Sorry 2 days late with reply but, yes would agree with LM's summing up of phyiso/osteo's. I'm not anti osteo's either, horses and courses and all that.

Mocat · 23/08/2008 19:37

Hello to all. Glad to hear you are all in good form - esp. LM now you are back on form.

Right - what is the best type of cot mattress? DS is rapidly outgrowing his moses basket and I have DD's old cot to buy a new mattress for. Her mattress was just a foam one but I'm thinking maybe I should buy a sprung one for DS. It's just a cot, not a cot-bed, so it only needs to last two years-ish. Any opinions? I've been looking online and I'm a bit bamboozled by the array. What are you all going for?

Also, anyone starting solids early? DS is 17 weeks and still satisfied with breast milk but I get the feeling it won't be enough for much longer. He was 4 weeks prem so I think I'll give his system as long as I can before I start to wean him. Any of you starting soon?

And (flipping cheek to ask so many questions seeing as I haven't posted in weeks but I hold your wisdom in such high esteem) Mitchell does your section still hurt? I know you've had bother with it only closing recently but does the area still get sore if you get tired or go up and down stairs too often? Mine does and I'm wondering if this is just to be expected. Pina - you also had a section, didn't you? What about yours? What about everyone's energy levels? I get knackered mid afternoon - is that normal too?

Phew - so many questions!!!

YCBS Well, did DH like the house?

luckymummy74 · 23/08/2008 20:30

Hi all,

magicfairy My DD1 has been a real little monkey today (putting it politely!). She is definitely testing the boundaries. I am determined to show her who is boss!! She was on the naughty step twice today..... Quite wearing.

I am feeling a bit tipsy after 2 glasses of wine (I needed it tonight!). Made homemade pizza for dinner with goats cheese and balsamic onions, and a pecan tart for pudding!! [proud chef type mummy emotion]

YCBS yes, did DH like the house??

asics I PMSL at your osteo/patient dialogue!!! I can just picture it!!

pina thinking of you, hope today went well. You must be shattered!!

youcannotbeserious · 24/08/2008 07:35

Just a quicky... Yes, DH liked the house... and he's bought himself a new car (He only got the one he's driving now in January, but he needs a faster one ) so he's happy!

Mocat My HV said that if a baby weighs more than 16lbs at 16weeks, then they advocate early weaning... Harry is 14 weeks now and weighs 15lbs so we'll see what we see in a few weeks time. I'm hoping to give it until 20 weeks, but will take the advice of HV I think... Plus, about the CS scar - mine does slightly ache sometimes... I can't say it hurts, but I can feel it, IYSWIM, esp. if I'm giving Harry a bottle and he's being wriggly!!!

LM - Sorry DD1 is being a bit cheeky! It's the age, I'm sure!!! Is BB still going on? Seems to have been going forever!! When is it due to end?

Hi MF - Nice to hear from you!

Gruffalo - I think the trip to Harrods is for me, not Harry!!! I'm pretty sure that, at 7MO, he won't get that much out of it!

Pina - I hope you are OK... Was the party yesterday or today? I thought yesterday, but then thought, it's catholic so likely to be on a Sunday.... Hope the weather is OK for you if it's today.. it's awfully wet here but we are a couple of hundred miles away.

magicfairy · 24/08/2008 13:13

hi all, i was planning on only reading and not posting but just had to add my thought on early weaning.
Ycbs - i have never heard of the 16 lbs by 16 weeks rule before and i am always very sceptical of hv advice, not that i am trained in baby health care but i am a trained breast feeding peer supporter and (imho)the reasons for waiting until 6 months for starting solids are valid reasons.
Ds1 was over 17 lbs at 16 weeks and we started solids at 5.5 months, he is a really fantastic eater and loves his food. We waited for his signs, trying to grab food when we were eating and really obviously showing interest in food, also i think being able to sit up is imporatnt.
Anyway thats just my opinion, i will try to link a good article but im not sure how to do it!! here
hope that works!!
Anyway feel bad today as we all being lazy and lounging around the house and the sun is actually shining, must get out soon or we'll miss it!!
