Thanks for starting the new thread Flick! MM

youcannotbeserious · 04/08/2008 20:14

hello!! thanks Flick!!

macaco · 05/08/2008 08:07

morning all!

monkeysmama · 05/08/2008 10:01

LM, I couldn't stop thinking about your friend last night. I so hope her LO is okay. I cannot imagine how she must be feeling. A big hug to you.

On the subject of your fear of dogs I have a serious phobia which I manage but am worried of passing on to dd. I don't want to write the word and have to see it everytime I log on but it's bird related, the common vermin "P" as we know them. I have had 4 years of counselling to deal with it but though I can now go to parks and occasionally sit outside in public places I had a panic attack when dd was 3 weeks old and one came near her pram.

Is the weather all grey everywhere today or just in London?

Hope everyone's ok.

MM

luckymummy74 · 05/08/2008 10:23

monkeysmama It's very grey here too (not that I'm that far from London!). Thanks for your thoughts. I haven't heard from my friend since Sunday, don't want to hassle her. I just sent her a text saying I couldn't imagine what she was going through and that I'm thinkning of her.
I totally understand your phobia, or anyone's for that matter. In the past I have had so many people say to me 'how can you be scared of dogs??!!' as if I am stupid, but if that's how you feel, you can't help it. We have a massive guy at work, really big muscley hardnut who is scared of spiders and won't even come in the staff room if there is a money spider in there....

macaco · 05/08/2008 11:03

sorry to hear about LM's friend and MM's phobia. I used to be bad about spiders but i've got better. Why do you have to see your phobia everytime you log on?

monkeysmama · 05/08/2008 11:11

Macaco, as this is the first page I'd see the word everytime I opened it!

thefortbuilder · 05/08/2008 11:42

while we're sharing phobias - mine is clowns which dh thinks is ridiculous - i literally freeze when i see one, which isn't going to be great going to the circus with the ds's when they are older.

it's tipping it down in clapham at the moment.

we had to use glue traps for our mouse problem last night. they are too clever generally to go near normal traps or poison so i had to put glue traps down, which , if you have never come across them, are exactly what they say they are. they are horrible, but after living with the mice for long enough now something had to be done two got caught and i literally cried as i put them outside into the garden . i think there may be one more hiding somewhere, but i'm not sure

macaco · 05/08/2008 12:21

No, sorry MM I don't get why you see it everytime you open the page...stupid emoticon. Nevermind, sure you don't want to even be thinking about it, so moving on.....

off to the beach on thurs...to escape the 41 degree heat. We're officially on orange alert down in this part of Andalucia for the heat. apparently even at night it's no lower than 28 or something.

thefortbuilder · 05/08/2008 13:21

macaco its a new thread so this page will load first so mm would see the word when she came on

you poor things in the heat and on alert!

Hi all,

I'm still checking in from time to time. At Dad's at the momment because he has a lung condiiton and I am keeping an eye on things.

We are breastfeeding and Emily is putting on weight steadily but not in huge amounts. She is 10 pounds 11 ozs at 9 weeks. She loves feeding and would do it 24 / 7 if I let her.

Hope you are all well.

Lots of love,

NS XXXX

Hello everyone, may I join this thread??

I had ds on the 7/5/08 and am just now starting to feel like coming out of the woodwork a bit. He's growing incredibly quickly (and he started out pretty big!) and we are enjoying him more and more each day. I just love all the girgling now!

TIAIC

thefortbuilder · 05/08/2008 15:52

hi there takingit - congrats and welcome

hey newbishad

kanga did you get my bf'ing tea? are you ok haven't heard from you in a while and someone please shoot me if i've missed something that has happened while i was on holiday and i've put my foot right in it

just been for a run for 40mins (which is v good for me!) and haven't fallen over or collapsed!!! got to get a bit more weight off as will be expected to don a bikini for holiday with IL's in malaysia in october. also we are taking our au pair when she arrives in september and she's 21 and an aussie ....bound to be stunning

OP posts:
youcannotbeserious · 05/08/2008 16:48

Hi TIAIC!!

Flick - congratulations on the run... I[m going to Buggy-fit again on Thursday. My parents appeared briefly today to pick up the chocolate dog and they were pleased with my figure (AKA: I once again have a waist!! ) I shall miss the chocolate dog but we have too many parties in August and it's not fair for him and he just ADORES my dad (and my dad adores the dog!) so it works out well for the chocolate one to have a holiday in the country when DH and I are busy

I'm afraid I also have a phobia - for me, it's things that can fly: Any birds, butterflies etc., THe smaller the creature, the worse it is. I KNOW it's irrational, but they just freak me out completely.

I've been to my PN group today - seems OK... there was one woman there who said her labour was 97 hours. That must be some sort of record!!!! She was gushing about having avoided a C section at any cost, so not sure she will approve of my birth plan if we ever get talking!!!!

Harry is in his crib now, having outgrown his moses basket... So, what do I do in a couple of weeks when we are visiting friends for a party - what do I take for him to sleep in?

Bugger - he's crying again... I think he's over tired today, he's been very whingy!

thefortbuilder · 05/08/2008 17:06

ycbs - is he having a growth spurt?

I would invest in a pop up travel cot - you can get them that do till they're 18 months, although (and i'm sure i'll get shot down for this one) when we used to visit my parents when ds1 was really small he just slept in the middle of a pile of blankets and bedcovers with pillows round him, on the floor, like a little nest, as they were and still are, completely unprepared for gc's to stay!

am just vvv tired now!

OP posts:
luckymummy74 · 05/08/2008 17:35

YCBS My mate Denny has one of those pop up travel cots and she says they're great. We take DDs normal big travel cot if we go out for the day as DD1 is still gets very grumpy if she doesn't have a daytime sleep.
Anyway chuck.....see you tomorrow!

Welcome new peeps....TIAIC!

I'm a bit today as my neighbour came over Sunday night to ask if she could borrow my camera as it was her son's birthday and her camera had broken. I couldn't really say no, so I had to lend it to her. I really look after my things in this house (DDs highchair still looks brand new despite 18 months of her using it ). I was a bit nervous about lending it out (at an 11 yr old boy's birthday party!) but kept telling myself that it would be fine. Anyway, she brought it back this morning and she was very upset by it, but she had dropped it and now it's all scratched . I am so cross, obviously I just had to say "don't worry, it's just one of those things!" But honestly!!! At least it still works, it could have been worse.
And now I have 80 of her pics on my memory card, so I either have to print them myself and charge her what it costs me (v time consuming) or let her take my memory card with all my pics on, and me then be without my camera again while she has my memory card.

Am I being unreasonable???

monkeysmama · 05/08/2008 17:52

LM I would be really angry too! I don't think you're being at all unreasonable in being irritated. Do whatever suits you best would be my advice. If I was her I would've returned the camera with a bunch of flowers to say thanks at the very least.

TIAIC - welcome. The noises they make are great aren't they . My dd Stella was born on 14/5 and is gurgling (& dribbling!) all the time. I love it!

The pop up cots are great - we have one which has a cover for the sunshine and it is brilliant. Mamas and Papas and Mothercare had them in the sale a few weeks ago....

macaco · 05/08/2008 18:04

another vote for pop up travel cots. we have a 2 level one so while he's little you don't have to reach all the way down to pick him up.

thefortbuilder · 05/08/2008 18:31

LM i'd be very cross if i were you - i used to share a house with a girl who NEVER looked after other peoples stuff - i had to lock my iron away so she didn't damage it - sounds petty i know...

about the photos - I'd set her up with a snapfish or some such other photos site (if you can be bothered) and load all her photos on there - then she can print them off at her leisure

and no YANBU!

OP posts:
luckymummy74 · 05/08/2008 19:41

flick I am on snapfish myself, and I was gonna just upload her pics then she could pay me when I order them, then I realised she has taken 80 photos and it takes about 2 mins to upload each photo on my pc, so that's 190 mins, or over 3 hours!!!! I'll talk to her tomorrow. Also, I don't like to just expect things, but yes macoco, a bunch of flowers wouldn't have gone a-miss, IYSWIM . She offered to give me money cos she had scratched the camera....as if I was gonna say "yeah ok, shall we call it fifty??" !!!!

youcannotbeserious · 05/08/2008 20:49

LM - Def. not unreasonable. I'd be furious...

Can you not just download her piccies onto a CD and let her take it from there. It's a real liberty that she expects you to sort it out for her.

I remember years ago, DH's ex broke her camera and then called DH and asked him to give her mine (SOOOOO ) - Obv. he didn't but I was angry that she even thought she could ask for it. In fact, I still have the same camera and it's still in perfect condition. I like to look after my stuff... At school, I had the same calculator and dictionary in 6th form that my parents had bought me for secondary school!!!

God, harry is STILL whinging....

thefortbuilder · 05/08/2008 21:29

LM i agree a bunch of flowers would not have gone amiss.

our snapfish is much quicker than that - can you leave it doing overnight as i know speeds are much higher then when not everyone is on t'internet

not much else to report here - on pox watch and have convinced myself that sam has chicken pox but i'm sure it's too early for spots already!

OP posts:
youcannotbeserious · 05/08/2008 22:16

Ahh... Harry finally seems to have given in to sleep!

LM - Looking forward to coffee tomorrow!

thanks for the advice re. travel cot - will have a look this weekend.

youcannotbeserious · 05/08/2008 22:43

OK guys, I know I've asked about this before, but I need some inspiration on what I could possibly get DH for his birthday (which is less than a fortnight away! )

I'm not working so basically don't have any money (I mean, obviously, I'm not skint, but whatever I buy, DH ultimately pays for, IYSWIM) I can't afford anything he'd really like (guitars, cars etc.... WAY out of my league) so need to think outside of the metaphorical box.....

He's hardly ever here, so days out etc., are out of the question, gimmicks are a big no-no..., he has loads of clothes...

Top 5 hobbies:

  1. VIntage guitars (Fenders / Les Pauls)
  2. Fast cars (Owns Porsche)
  3. Cycling (has good bike)
  4. 70s Rock (but can't think of anything he'd want - has all CDs etc)
  5. Obv. travel is a big aspect of DH's life, but he has travel bag / wash bag etc....

If you had EVERYTHING you needed and pretty much everything you wanted, what would you like? What do you guys buy your hubbies?

I don't have a single idea and the last time this happened, I bought him a travel tie holder!!!

Mitchell81 · 06/08/2008 07:49

YCBS: Ipod, sat nav (probably has those already), I also find gifts difficult to buy for as usually if we want or need something we buy it so when birthdays come round no ideas on gifts. It is DH birthday at the end of the month so also need to think about gifts, but as I have never worked it is always his wages that I am spending. Not that I think of it like that usually(its our money).

YCBS and LM enjoy your meet uo today

Flick I hope no-one gets chicken pox

LM Sorry about your camera, how rude.

TIAIC welcome and congrats, what did he weigh?

Newbishad: Nice to see you

monkeysmama Weather is crap here too

Pina Come back please, we miss you, I know you are busy but just pop in every now and again. I will write to you on FB now
