Evening all,

DD2 has been really grouchy today, even before her jabs . She normally sleeps well in the morning, but didn't really sleep and just kept screaming everytime I put her down, really high pitched, lots of tears and purple face . She hadn't poo'd since yesterday and I could her her poor little tummy gurgling. I did a bit of gentle abdo massage and she did a couple of big whizz bangs and then seemed a bit better. She also cries like that when she is really over-tired.

Took her for her jabs, which was fine. A friend had DD1 for me while I went. I didn't fancy an hour in a GP waiting room with a screaming baby and a 2 yr old .

DD2 also hates tummy time. I keep trying with her as they say it helps them to crawl later on. I remember DD1 hating it, but I did persevere, despite feeling really mean! DD1 crawled at about 8 or 9 months. When I put DD2 on her tummy, she can't lift her head up very well and really screams, and then will not even settle once I pick her up . All we manage is about 1 minute! I will keep trying.

Anyone else watching BB9? Can't believe one of those two sexpots is gonna be evicted tonight .

Evening ladies

Had some lovely playing laughing time and two screaming episodes since my last post. I am a tad concerned because if there is something wrong I want to help her and if not I'm going to be teaching her she only needs to scream and her mummy will pick her up (though I am trying to comfort her while she stays in her cot etc) I think it may be wind but don't know why it would've got bad in the past week or 2?

Any advice for bad wind? She's breast fed, from bottle once a day.

Spoken to dp on his yacht somewhere (or the hired yacht) who is drunk enough to be declaring undying love for me and sad about how much he misses us. I was tempted to suggest he might want to come home then instead of spending a day getting drunk on a boat with colleagues. I did feel rather aggrieved when he suggested he won't be home until mid afternoon tomorrow as he'll need a rest and to get over his inevitable hangover before he comes back!? Then we're off to the garden party with more bloody work colleagues.

Oh well, I woke up in a bad mood and think sleep's the best thing for me.

Any wind advice would be very gratefully recieved.

Goodnight girls
MM

youcannotbeserious · 09/08/2008 08:36

oh, MM, you made me - Your DP is tired and emotional... I think it's hilarious when DH phones me up after he's had a few drinks (they are big on shots in Russia!) - He is so romantic / tells me he loves me... It's really quite sweet!! Just remember that, in lots of jobs, this sort of networking is really important. DH does socialise quite a bit - has been to GPs etc., this year - and, yes it seems that it's one big jolly with lots of booze thrown in, but it's all part of the job... In fact, at DH's 40th, out of 70 adults, the VAST majority were friends made through work....

I would also second him not coming home until he feels err... less tired and emotional!! - Nothing worse than a grumpy bloke stinking of beer (and probably fags too!!) Is he down at Cowes? I have quite a few friends down there at the mo!

Well, DH came home last night to a PERFECT house and was super impressed and GET THIS! Harry slept from 10pm until 5am...

Must go, Harry has just decided it's breakfast time!!

Hope you all have lovely weekends (and enjoy the Garden party MM!)

Must dash!

youcannotbeserious · 09/08/2008 11:12

Oh dear... there is a cloud on my lovely weekend's horizon....

I have just got a notice of intended prosecution for doing 39 in a 30MPH zone... Feck it!

thefortbuilder · 09/08/2008 12:47

ycbs - appeal it! see if there is any reason you could give them and write a begging letter - dh did this on a ticket and got allowed off with a stern reply! unforutnately he got caught doing 5 in a 70 zone 2 weeks later (never been caught speeding before!) and couldn't get out of it.

MM are you eating anything that migt be wind inducing, or what bottle are you using - we always used gripe water with ds's and it helped immensely as you can give it to them after the feed as well, rather than having to be before.

Pina i used www.123-reg.com for this website as they were pretty cheap for hosting as well as registering the domain name, and they do loads of add ons like visitor tracking etc. my main problem now is getting people to see my site, as the product is great, it's just getting people onto it!

afternoon all

thefortbuilder · 09/08/2008 13:09

hey LM! we're having grotty weather here. dh was going for one drinks last night.....so we waited for him to eat dinner and he finally rolled in at 10pm, then insisted that we stay up till 1230 watching tv - between then and 530 i was up 4 times with sam and had to go and get jacob from his bed as he's suffering with (I think) night terrors at the moment...and has to come down in with us when he wakes up screaming. and dh then had the audacity to get grumpy when jacob woke at 530 saying pee toilet and insisting that pap take him rather than mummy. i went back to bed when sam napped at 800 for a couple of hours and jacob and dh now sleeping and sam gurgling on his baby gym. might go and nap later

i think we may have seen the last of the summer...

Afternoon luckymummy

For those of u struggling with tummy time have u tried lying on your back with LO's on your chest. That way when they lift their heads they are rewarded with your smiling face rather than the floor.

monkeysmama · 09/08/2008 17:27

Hi ladies

YCBS Yes, he was at Cowes. He got home around 1 still smelling like a pub but he looked after dd while I had a hair cut. Off to garden party soon though it is tipping down! It also starts rather later than I thought and am trying to convince dp we don't have to go!

Flick, you're the second person to mention gripe water so I've bought some and just tried it. Fingers crossed. In terms of my diet-I have one proper coffee a day and eat very varied but healthy food. Having said that I struggle to drink enough water.

luckymummy74 · 09/08/2008 19:28

MM things that I was told can give baby wind.....onions, grapes, seeded fruit (strawberries/raspberries) spicy food....I hope your lo settles soon.

Hi denny Yes, I have tried putting her on my (ample) chest. A little easier but still screams.

I walked to town and back with the girls in the double buggy today, half an hour each way. Felt really good...then fell asleep for an hour when I got home!

Tonight I tried a new bedtime routine for the girls.....(on my own as DH at work)
5:40pm - bath DD2
6:00pm - bath DD1, wash her hair, let her play in the bath while I feed DD2 (in the bathroom).
6:30pm -put DD2 to bed (YAY!) Do milk and story with DD1.
7pm- both DDs in bed.....very happy mummy!

I'm gearing up for them sharing a room eventually. At the moment DD1 goes to bed first, but that's not going to really work as DD2 usually cries for a bit when she goes down (up to about 15 mins) so she would wake up DD1. I've been trying all different timings....

DD2 is over 3 months and DD1 went into her own room/big cot at 4 months. Not sure I'll be able to put them in together while DD2 still waking at 4-5am for first feed.

DD2 is much bigger than DD1. Considering their birth dates are only 2 weeks apart, DD1 didn't reach the weight that DD2 is now until the end of October!!!
DD2 is already starting to look a bit big for her crib.

I feel like my whole life at the moment is a military operation of timings....feeds/lunch/dinner/naps/baths etc etc....as well as trying to run a home....not feeling sorry for myself, but just feeling very 'this being a mummy lark is actually quite hard work' at the moment.

Hope you are all having a nice weekend.

Denny185 · 09/08/2008 20:32

LM - you know that conversation we had about not remembering when S and E stopped crying themselves to sleep? Well DD2 has just gone off the last 2 nights with no fuss, fingers crossed we have turned a corner. I must sat though Im v impressed u got them in bed by 7pm, 8 seems to be as good as I get at the minute.

youcannotbeserious · 10/08/2008 09:58

Hi!

Denny thanks for the suggestion... Harry certainly finds lying on me better than his play mat (not much though! ) but I have found that he really likes to be carried around on his tummy (with me hollering 'FLYING BABY' ) OK, I know this isn't exactly TUMMY TIME, but it's sort of, and he really likes it... He's started to giggle now and he will giggle when tickled under his chin and also when doing 'flying baby'.... I need to get out more, don't I???

Lovely weekend here. We had a lovely evening here. DH's brother stayed over too.....

DH in good form, as is Harry, so all in the YCBS household!

MM - Glad to hear that DH is redeeming himself after Cowes - Did he have a good time??? How's the wind situation?

LM - Am in awe of your routine!! Harry doesn't go down till about 9pm, but he is sleeping through till around 3am at that point (Wakes for feed) and then needs another feed around 6am (He has starving this morning!!!). Then back to sleep till around 9am, but he's still asleep here beside me this morning - Lazy waster!!

FLick - Would be a bit at your DH!! I don't mind DH going out at all, but I do like to know when he'll be back. I'd be cross if he said he was off for one drink and then stayed out all night....

Mitchell - YOu guys all sorted after the holidays?

No point in appealing the ticket... Not sure what I could use as an excuse... I was late for 'mums of steel' exercise class, I was looking at Harry in the back seat, I'm a hormonal new mum.... ... Just gonna have to take the rap, I think!

luckymummy74 · 10/08/2008 10:48

YCBS we have all done 'Flying baby'...haven't we?! I have anyway...even have flying baby photos of DD1

Well, having fed DD2 at 6pm and put her tobed at 6:30pm, she woke at 3am, which I know is still v good, but quite hard when you're used to 5 or 6am. I decided as DH on nights to express as I fed so that I had milk for today as we are going to a BBQ and I don't want to BF in front of all my extended family.

I'm thinking what I might do is feed DD2 at 6pm, then wake her for a feed at 10pm, hopefully she will then go thru til early hours of the morning.

I had a very experience this morning. I am shattered after 4 days on my own with the girls while DH at work for 13 hrs at a time. We went to 9am mass, and I fed DD2 first so she should have just gone to sleep, but she didn't. She just screamed in her pram, and a very nice lady who was trying to be helpful kept rocking the pram, and I didn't feel I could say "can you stop doing that please, she's trying to get to sleep!". DD1 was being a bit of a monkey (quite unlike her, she's normally good in church). So....I ended up bursting into tears just before the sign of peace . Not just a little tear in my eye, but sobbing....how embarassing....One of the (very lovely) nuns took DD2 out for me, and she then settled. I felt such an idiot. Everyone was coming up to me to shake hands at the sign of peace and I was a red faced gibbering wreck. When I went up for communion, I was tempted to down the contents of the chalice (the wine, for those of you not in the know!).

Why do I do it to myself??

Going to a BBQ later. At least there will be lots of people to amuse the girls and I can just sit and eat meat .

re: tummy time, ds1 was ablt to hold his head up since birth but also HATED being on his tummy. my nan bought him a mat designed for tummy time with a teee and butterfly thingy on it so they have something to look at, its vtech i think, and he loved it, he rolled at 4 months.

Flick:great website, love the booties. I did however find the writing saying "lambskin and merino clothing for children and babies" made my eyes go funny! Hope you dont mind me saying that, i have just built a website for dh business and found truthful comments like that really helpful. Other than that though i though it was great.

Pina: i 2nd the build it yourself idea, i found it very stressful but great satifaction when it was finished. I used a program called serif and the website is hosted by 123.reg. All up it cost £60.
Also ds1 was awful for spinning round in his cot, he never went in his basket, but as he was in a sleeping bag i never found this to be a problem as there was never a danger of sheets over his head.

Re: childminding, ds1 has only ever been to his nannies and never to a nursery or anything. He goes to differnet play sessions in the week and has a good social network, he is great at playing/interacting with other kids. He will be starting at nursery, 1 morning a week from September, he will be 2. I didnt see the point in putting him with a cm if i wasnt going to work, and the only reason he is now going to a nursery is to get the social aspect from being in a classlike situation which you cant get from cm. We shall see how it goes, but when we went for a look he wouldnt leave.

ycbs- harry is still very young and some babies do only want their mummy, its a survival instinct, you are their food and comfort source, they feel safe with you, but they do grow out of it.

mm - could be wind but also could be a cold/ear infection, if she has never been a particulary windy baby yet, then maybe she isnt feeling so great. ds2 was like this a while back, fussy feeding and upset, esp when laid on side to feed, turned out to be a cold but his brother had an ear infection, so maybe that was hurting him too? If he is being really fussy feeding though you may need to express just to keep your milk supply up.

well ds2 was good as gold on his playmat for all that time, he is in a super lovely mood this wekkend.

we went to our festival, friday was great ds1 had an amazing time and they both slept really well in our van, then saturday was the worst weather ever so we chucked it in and came home in the afternoon!

oh well i jinxed ds2 he is now upset, time for a nap i think

Hi GUys....

Mondays come round awfully fast don't they?? Still managed to hold off on the water works this morning so looked relatively human as DH headed off to work.

Had a lovely weekend here, no stress at all.

Glad I'm not the only one with a flying baby!

Good luck with the website, Pina - Let us know how it goes!!

LM - Sorry to hear you had a hard time at Church... I think it's harder when you are in that sort of environment and you feel like a million people are staring at you... FWIW, I can't stand the sign of the peace part of mass... ALways makes me feel really self concious! Hope you have a lovely time at SuperBros!

MF - I agree with you about the CM only when you are at work - I know I'm the same so will look to go back part time once I've sorted some childcare out for Harry... Even if it's only voluntary, I know I wouldn't leave Harry somewhere else if I didn't have something specific to do....

Flick - Did you get any nap over the weekend?

harry and I are off to London today - I'm taking him back to the Paed as I'm a tiny bit concerned about one of his eyes... When I take flash photos of him, one of his eyes is noticably lighter than the other (the pupil, I mean) Not honestly sure if it's a problem and I appreciate I can be a bit PFB, but worth checking, I think.... Sounds awful, but I don't trust my GP that much (that would be the GP that told me I catagorically wasn't PG in November!!!)

hi everyone!

well lm lots of hugs coming your way - you're allowed a few "burst into tears" moments - it's not all beer and skittles this mummy lark, especially with 2 of them.

pina - call 123-reg support they should be able to help you with the pop3 mail thing - i must say it's the one thing i'm absolutely stumped by! and i think it's fairly simple... have google adwords and am updating the ad on it to get it higher up the listings, but to be honest, you actually just have to pay more per click for them to put it higher up

mf thanks for the feedback - am thinking of changing the layout of it so the strap line is further down iyswim. and interesting we both used 123-reg?

anyone i've missed so sorry and hope all are doing well.

o'h yes ycbs - i got a nap on saturday and then a bit of a lie in yesterday morning but sam woke after about 35 mins yesterday afternoon so no nap then. and our au pair is in stratford upon avontoday and tomorrow morning so no help either. not that i can't do it or anything, it's just a bit more difficult!

Morning ladies

Only a quick one as dd has woken up as I've been logging in.

MF thanks for the ear infection suggestion - I hadn't thought of that. Just been to HV and they've suggested she may have an ear or an urine infection?! Going to the doctor tomorrow morning....

Hope everyone has a good day.

youcannotbeserious · 11/08/2008 17:02

Hi GUys,

Well, Harry and I are home from London and guess what? Yes, the good news is the worst thing to have been inflicted on Harry is his PFB mother! His eyes are fine, as is his weight, height, head circumference, privates, ears and every other bit of him...

While we were there (In London), I thought I might introduce Harry to the world of Daisy and Tom and THEY HAVE SHUT - apparently been bought out by mothercare and 'hoping to reopen' (but then why would they have shut at all???) Really sad... Spent so many happy days with the DSDs in Daisy and Tom and was really looking forward to taking Harry there too...

Hope everyone is well and enjoying their monday!!

LM - Am going to e-mail you with some questions about childcare when you get back from SuperBros!

Oooh... forgot to mention: I am going for a bit of a 'pampering' day next Saturday!

DH and I are off to some friends and they are super stylish, so I am going to a Style Director for a hair cut on Saturday, then to get my nails done... MIL is going to look after Harry for me...
(LM - My MIL is the opposite of yours!! )

gingerwench · 11/08/2008 17:11

hello again..,. it is hard keeping up with this thread with so much feeding, winding, changing etc but I do generally read even if I don't post.

DS is two months old today and his smiles and gurgling are adorable. He has regular screaming fits when he is tired and due to sleep (particularly evening) but on the whole I'm v lucky that he seems a relatively relaxed chap. He has wanted a 3-4 hourly feed pattern for a while but every so often he confuses me by deciding he is hungry after only another hour or so - very exhausting when at night. I had the 8 week HV check today and he is perfectly on track for weight, height and head circumference and she commented on his wonderful muscle tone. It's nice because I have a somewhat laissez-faire attitude to DS at times followed by guilt that I am TOO relaxed. It's reassuring that he IS getting enough food even if I don't have an official routine (everyone from friends to neighbours asks "is he in a routine yet?" and I never know what to say - I mean is it bad to let him do what he wants when he wants if it isn't too inconvenient for me?)

When I am tired I feel bad that I'm not engaging and interacting with him enough and instead plonking him down somewhere and surfing the net or reading the paper instead. He's definitely more demanding of my time and energy now but more rewarding when I put the effort in. how is everyone else finding it?

youcannotbeserious · 11/08/2008 17:29

GW - Can totally relate... I've had an easy day of it today - We've been out to London so Harry is tired but I do wonder what activities / toys I should be considering for Harry as I do hve to plonk him down now and again just to keep up with daily chores etc.,

He does love his cot mobile, that def. frees me up for an hour or so, but is equally bored of his play mat... Needs more stimulation these days... He loves his walks though - We are still walking 4 miles a day even without the chocolate dog as Harry enjoys it (and I think it's good to maintain the routine as he'll have to come walking once the chocolate one is back!)

thefortbuilder · 11/08/2008 17:43

ycbs - i missed you saying you were coming to london! we were on the kings road today and probably passed you! yes daisy and tom closed in the new year - such a shame. but did you find igloo a little further down? they have just opened a couple of weeks ago - by no means daisy and tom but a decent addition to the KR!

I'm sure i'm missing something but why did you bring him up to london for weighing etc?

GV yes sam does get plonked down a bit but we have a great baby gym that he just loves, and has started rolling over all the time on so he'd much rather be listeneing to music and playing with toys on there than carted up to the toilet with his older brother 20 times a day (in the space of an hour this afternoon we've been 6 times for a miniscule pee each time, but bles him at least he's telling me!) first day or proper toilet training with no pull ups on from this afternoon and we've only had one accident so i'm very proud. although he's refusing to wear any pants now and is running around the house in just a long sleeved polo shirt
