lol lizzie - good luck with the name hunting.

hersetta - ds is exactly the same with the self congratulations - he does it every time he lays a train set or jigsaw piece correctly, or pretty much anything that i say - 'thats a clever boy' to. sure they will grow out of it by the time they get to school (or it will be beaten out of them in the playground )

GillL · 22/01/2009 14:39

Ds was very funny last night. He put his Fruit Shoot bottle inside one of dd's wellington boots and then drank out of it

Hi My2 - good to hear from you. How's work going? dd is 4 in March so she'll be starting school in September. We don't find which school she's going to until the end of March, I think. She's growing up far too quickly.

We rarely have CBeebies on, mainly because I got fed up with them repeating the same programmes that I watched with dd when she was a baby/toddler. We mainly have Playhouse Disney and Nick Jr on so my dcs' favourites are Peppa Pig, Dora, Diego and Mickey Mouse Clubhouse.

It's amazing how quickly they're all picking up words at the moment. Yesterday ds was saying boot and this morning he started saying bath. It seems he likes words beginning with b. His favourite word is still mama though, which I'm pleased about.

Conker - Struan is so clever doing puzzles. I've tried to get ds interested in them before but he couldn't be bothered. He's much more interested in opening cupboards, climbing the stairs and generally doing things he shouldn't. He's still not interested in stories either.

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 22/01/2009 14:43

Hiya, I'm crap at keeping up lately, sorry. Hope you're all ok!

lizziemun · 22/01/2009 16:04

James are you ok.

Were your ears burning i was just thinking about you when going to get Lizzie from school today.

conkertree · 22/01/2009 16:25

hi James - how is the new house going?

Gill - think second children seem to always be more naughty (for want of a better word cause i dont really mean naughty) than first children, going by my sisters two, my2's two and yours - think the second children see the older ones and want to do everything they can do, so are more adventurous maybe than the firsts.

Not that Struan doesnt have his fair share of doing things he shouldnt, but also has a fairly biddable side to him when he's in the mood to concentrate on something.

am so nervous about the next one arriving - i know Struan will just have to adapt but he still seems so young, and I dont want him to think he is ousted from his place in the family.

anyway sorry - turned into a bit of a me post there.

My2 · 22/01/2009 20:26

hiya - 2 posts in 2 days, i'm doing well (should maybe clap and cheer like all our dc's do )

conker - i've never done the creche, have always just taken one of them swimming then if it's dd1 i've got, she plays in the wee soft play bit whilst i have a cake and coffee! must have a wee look at the local thread, think it's about a year since i've clicked there!

think you've got a nice age gap - struan will be old enough to realise that things have changed slightly but not too old to realise that he's no longer the centre of attention 24/7! and it's good he's got his cousins - that will help prepare him.

has anyone mastered the art of taking 2 dc's swimming at the same time, on your own - have never attempted it, so any tips gratefullly recieved.

james - nice to hear from you (though i think i've been absent as long as you...) hope things are good with you?

gill - work is really hectic, but i'm enjoying it (most of the time). have you heard any more about what's happening with your work? if your dd doens't get into the school you want,do they offer you an alternative or do you have search again?

hersetta - peppa pig is big favorite here too. can't believe these clever toddlers counting - maybe you and helibee should phone mensa see if they do IQs for 17month olds .

we had a plasterer come and look at our living room ceiling tonight as we've got a lovely hole in it where the boiler leaked...and dd2 sang to him twinkle twinkle little star (well bah, bah , bah , bah, bah, bah, star...) as well as doing the actions was quite funny.

off to look at mumsnet local now...

GillL · 23/01/2009 14:43

Hi James - I'm fine but very tired. No chance of catching up either. Dh is still doing diy every weekend. At least half of it is at house now though. Hope you're ok too.

conker - I felt the same as you did about having dc2, although dd was 2.4 yrs when ds arrived. She did regress quite a lot at first so it was almost like having a 17 month old anyway. It is a big change for them especially when the baby is tiny and takes up so much of your time but I'm sure Struan will adapt quickly.

My2 - I forgot to answer your question from yesterday. I haven't started my medication yet. I need to phone the doctor to find out if he's read the letter yet. I'll keep you posted.

I haven't taken both of mine swimming at the same time yet. Saying that I still haven't taken ds swimming ever. My sister told me that in our local pool there has to be one adult per child under 8 IIRC.

We haven't heard anything about our jobs unfortunately. Our operations manager is never here so we can't even ask her. The two jobs I was looking into never materialised so I've just got to keep my eyes peeled for opportunities. There's a career fair in April for another department so I'm going to see what they have to offer.

In Kent you can apply for up to 3 schools. There's a form that you submit to the council with your 3 choices in order of preference. They will send your details to all 3 schools (with no reference to order of preference) and see which ones offer you a place. If you get an offer for any of them then the council will put you down for whichever is highest on your list. If you don't get offers for any of them then they allocate the closest school which has a place. I'm quite hopeful for our top 2 though. They both said that they have children from our road there and our top choice is only 5 mins walk.

Hi first time I've had a catch up for ages too!

Completely agree with dc2 being more 'naughty' (naughty is definately the right word for ds1!). Think he does it for attention. Thought ds2 was a dream but he has begun to follow in his db footsteps recently!

He says very few words and none that anyone else would recognise but he is very good at getting his message over! Loads and loads of tantrums - worst one today was at a birthday party I took dd to. Was at a bowling alley - ds2 was screaming kicking and punching to get to the ball at the end of the alley. Even a fruitshoot wouldn't stop him (oh the thought of giving pfb dd one of those!)

He has finally started walking (the superglue on the bum worked wonders!) - so no longer wants to go in his buggy and screams about that too (quite looking forward to getting rid of it).

The best of my news is the delight of unwelcome visitors - changed ds2 nappy and found a wriggler in there. Completely lost it and went around to doctors, they were shut, went to baby clinic, huge queue, pushed in so could get to school but saw HV and burst into tears - she was useless and ended up seeing GP next day. Whole house has been bleached and we are all dosed up. Dc are so grim!

GillL · 26/01/2009 13:53

Hello. I had quite a good weekend. Went shoe shopping only to find that both dc's shoes still fit ok. Then we went to my friend's house for lunch. She had a baby girl in November and we hadn't met her yet. About an hour in, there was a knock at the door. Two very nice policemen were looking for the owner of my car because the bus couldn't get through (it was quite a narrow country road). The place looked like a bomb had hit it by the time we left. We had to call it a day early though as her dd had 'sharing' issues with her toys.

Dd has started screaming when mum leaves her at pre-school again for some reason. She won't tell anyone why she doesn't want to go. She mentioned to mum the other day that she was bored there but I don't know why that would make her scream. I feel really sorry for mum having to leave her there like that.

Hi knickers. How's ds doing? Hope he's sleeping well.

Hi loler. Sorry to hear about your visitors.

My dad won't believe ds says any words because he can't understand what he's saying. He doesn't spend much time with him though. To be fair, ds mostly makes noises and points til we work out what he wants. He seems to understand quite a lot and nods and shakes his head appropriately. Although, when he sees something that he expects to be hot (like a radiator or the cooker) he blows on it. When we ask him if it's hot he shakes his head Yesterday he pointed to his bum and said 'bu' with a big grin on his face.

GillL · 26/01/2009 13:55

BTW - lol about giving a Fruit Shoot to a pfb

Hersetta · 27/01/2009 08:49

Loler - sorry about the bad tantrun but you did make me laugh when even a fruit shoot wouldn't appease him

We had a nice weekend as my Mum is over from Spain so she's spent the whole time playing with Caitlin. She says she's amazed at the changes in her in the 5 weeks since she saw her last and understands so much of what you say to her. As an example, when i put her to bed on Sunday night, I said to her (as one of us always does)'come on little girl, time to go to bedfordshire'. She got up from playing with a puzzle, walked accross the room waving and saying bye bye to my Mum and waited at the bottom of the stairs for me to open the stair gate. Was so funny.

New words this weekend include eyes, juice and she says 'oh no' every time she drops something, bashes her toys into the door etc. the funniest thing though was last night when I had changed her into her PJ's. I always pop her into her cotbed whilst i tidy up and get her clothes ready for DH to dress her the next day. We then play a quick game of me chasing her round her cot and then tickling her to death. She got so excited last night she ran stright into the end on her cot whacking her head which an terrible sounding crack. I took a deep breath and waited for the screams, but after a count of 2 she just sat down and said "oh no". It was so funny i almost PMSL. Bad Mummy.

Hope everyone is well.

GillL · 27/01/2009 15:26

Love the 'oh no' Hersetta

Not much to say today other than work is completely hectic at the moment. It goes from one extreme to the other.

Looks like it's nearly time for a new thread. Anyone got any ideas for the title?

helibee · 27/01/2009 22:29

hi, sorry i've been awol but Callum had a temp of 39-40 degrees from his MMR 10 days ago so dh and i spent all weekend shivering whilst Callum was stripped and all the heating was off! He's better now anyway

my2-glad to hear from you and glad dd1 had a good birthday. Callum can be very mischeivous, he normaly says no no whilst he is smiling at you and doing the thing that he's not supposed to be doing. I think he knows his numbers though cos dh builds bricks with him every night, the same as he says "eddy, eddy, doh" which is Callum for ready, steady, go and he says that before everything he does

His socks had come of whilst he was playing this evening and so he opened it up and tried to put his foot inside but couldn't quite balance long enough to do it!

JamesAndTheGiantBanana · 30/01/2009 17:29

Hi guys, hope you're all okay, just a quick one before I do tea. Went to a new soft play area with dp and James, it was really well designed and actually safe (so many aren't and the kids are darting about amidst the adults carrying hot drinks) so we got to have a coffee while he flung himself down slides and threw foam bricks around.

He's not 100% at the moment, got a little cold after playgroup on monday. He's enjoying playgroup but there is one older little boy who doesn't seem to like him much and rips every toy James picks up off him. James doesn't know what to make of it, bless him!

He's started saying moo and baa now, which I guess is something (although real words would have been nice!) and does all kind of funny things. I'm really enjoying this stage cos he's such a little joker and likes nothing more than suddenly bursting out of a cupboard to scare me. Plus everything's a hat or a phone at the moment, and it cracks me up to see him holding a sandwich to his ear expectantly lol Wasn't quite so funny when his new hat was a bowl of baked beans though the other day lol

Ooh gtg! bye xxx

GillL · 31/01/2009 16:06

Hi James, glad you've found a nice safe play area. I should take mine more often but I never seem to get round to it and dh is always telling me not to spend any money even just after pay day. Hope James feels better soon.

helibee - how's Callum doing?

Ds has started saying 'more' now. I gave him a bowl of pineapple chunks and when he finished he lifted it up and said 'mooooore'. Whenever me and dh have dinner I find him standing in front of me with his mouth wide open. I don't know where he puts it all.

I dreamt the other night that I was in labour having twins. I hope that's not a premonition.

My2 · 01/02/2009 20:06

hi all

just a quick post from me....

conker - was that your struan mentioned in the lingobaby article in the herald on friday?

helibee - how's callum now? hope he's all sorted and no more high temp?

gill - maybe it is a premonition....

james - nice to hear from you

hope everyon ehad a good weekend - i'm off to bed for a very early night -both dds have kept me very busy all weekend long!

GillL · 02/02/2009 14:55

Hope you had a good night's sleep My2.

Just come in from making a snowman and having a snowball fight with dd. I managed to get to work, only 40 minutes late. There were less than half of us there. Our manager left at about 9:30 and told us all to go home as soon as we'd finished what we needed to do. I don't know if I'll even bother trying to get to work tomorrow. The roads are likely to turn icy tonight and I had a few scary moments today stopping at junctions and roundabouts.

Hope everyone's well and having fun in the snow.

snotdroolanddirtybums · 03/02/2009 17:49

hi everyone just popping on to see how everyone is doing but too many posts to read and my boys could tear a house down in 0.3 seconds!

my 3 terrors are all doing great and im still loving my course and being me again. we got a wee 10 wk old cairn terrier at the wkend and she is so adorable! the kids love her.

hope u are all keeping well and sorry for being such a stranger

SexyLacyKnickersOnMaHead · 04/02/2009 01:02

Awwww at the terrier Snot. Id love another dog but we already have a big one and live in a two up two down so not very practical.

Just come on to say a quick hello really and hope everyone is well.

Couple of new pics up too

GillL · 05/02/2009 14:21

Hi snot. Glad to hear you're all doing well.

Hi knickers. Assume one of yours has been keeping you up at night. Love the pics. Your ds is gorgeous.

Is everyone enjoying the snow? Our car park at work is like an ice rink. They haven't bothered to salt any of it. It's a real hazard.

Hersetta · 05/02/2009 15:20

Definitely not - it took me 4 hrs to get to work on Monday and 2.5 hrs to get home. Not happy.

Our road is also doing a very passable impression of a skating rink. Almost went arse over tit on the way home last night and cursed the local council continuously for being so imcompetant.

Knickers you new pics are lovely - your DS is growing fast !

All fine here. DD is very well and chatting like mad. Her latest is 'all done' which she says when the microwave beeps when it's finished cooking and also when she's finished her bootle of milk or juice etc.

Hope everyone is well - please post more (reading our thread releives the boredom at work!).

snotdroolanddirtybums · 05/02/2009 21:17

knickers- your wee man is so cute. how old is he now? the pup has settled in really well shes so small but thinks shes a big dog the way she gets on lol

gill- not enjoying the snowone bit as i when i went to get the kids from the childminder i had to chase ds2 aroundthe garden and fell right down onto my bum dp and the childminder thought it was halarious!

hersetta- whata nightmare it taking u 4 hours to get to work. my wee man is still saying hiya and mamamamama at everything. ds2 stillnot really talking yet but hes trying.

better go get some housework done.

GillL · 06/02/2009 12:48

Hersetta I would be mad about that too. There's no snow left in my road. Everyone keeps telling me that there's more on the way on Monday though. I really hope not cos I've got 2 appointments.

snot - hope you didn't hurt yourself. Sounds like your ds is a bit of a rascal making his poor mum run after him in the snow

Ds is starting to say a lot more. He says 'more', 'poo poo' (that's what I call him when he's being naughty), 'grandad', 'bum' and 'beep' (when he sees anything with buttons or if the microwave finishes or the cooker timer goes off). He also now points to his bum when he's done a poo. He did it this morning just as we were about to leave. I'm glad he did though, could have been messy otherwise. His poos are still a very moussy consistency.

meandjoe · 06/02/2009 14:31

hi all, not been on for ages cos joe has had conjunctivitis and now has a slight ear infection! he was never ill before he turned one but this last couple of months seem to have been non stop for him, poor boy. he is still sleeping from 7pm-7am though so i'm thinking he's not feeling too bad. he's eating well too and for some reason actually likes taking his antibiotic medicine for his ears, it smells foul but apparently tastes like bananas.

anyway, had loads of snow here and the roads are a joke. we live near a school and the school bus nearly crashed into our car the other day, the roads have not been gritted at all. it's not like snow came as a shock, they've been warning of snow for the last 2 weeks!

anyway, knickers your ds looks so grown up already! he's so gorgeous!!!

joe is saying more every day. his latest trick is to curl up his chubby hands and pretend to wash his face when i ask him what hamsters do. he saw some in a pet shop last week so i showed him what they were doing, it's very cute and yet another example of me having too much time on my hands.

hope everyoe is ok, haven't had chance to catch up properly.

snot nice to hear from you. hope your course is going well and that bradley is ok.
