Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
conkertree · 07/10/2008 20:35

hi everyone - have finally read the posts i missed. holiday was great - struan absolutely loved the swimming pool which was great. he's still not quite walking on his own but pretty much refused to get in his buggy while we were there, and wanted to walk everywhere with a hand held.

poor wee joe- hope he feels better soon. hate how miserable the wee things get when they are ill.

james - good to see you are doing fine and are busy with work.

sorry not to speak to everyone but now cant remember what i was going to say.

struan also liked playing in the soft play but has developed a bit of a habit of shoving other kids out of the way if they try to play with the same thing (think its cause his older cousins do it to him) so am a bit nervous about the 17th that the other two toddlers will sit and play (or create mischief) happily together, and struan will just poke them.

lizziemun · 07/10/2008 20:38

James good to see you.

Pg going fine, Lexie has a cold and is only sleeping 4/5 hours a night as she can not breath, so i am shattered. Oh and Lizzie has chicken pox and dh has 'manflu'.

So as of today i am offering spots or snot to anyone who comes .

I'm going to have a great birthday tomorrow.

Hersetta · 08/10/2008 08:48

Hi James - nice to see you back. things aren't the same without you!

Happy bithday for tomorrow Lizzie. Sorry about your snot and spots though!.

Glad you had a good holiday conker - Caitlin loves the pool too. When we were at my Mum's two weeks ago, my mum took her out into the garden and she saw the swimming pool and got so excited I ended up having to take her in. It was 6.30 at night though and the water was distinctly chilly, but she seemed to enjoy herself. She does seem to love the beach more though and is happiest sitting at the water's edge in about 4-5 inches of water and can safetly splash around but still play with the sand and her bucket and spade.

Caitlin says a few words but most of is is still babble, but i do know what she means most of the time, pointing and saying ma means 'more'. Ni is 'nice' which is usually preceede by mmmmmmmm. Cutest thing though is that she says hello to her cuddly toys and then gives then a cuddle, then gives it to you so you can cuddle it too.

Caitlin had her MMR jab on Monday, so far no side effects apart from large red lump by the jab site which doesn't seem to bother her at all. Only problem has been (and I'm not sure it was even related to the MMR jab) was she woke up at 1am on Tuesday morning and wouldn't go back to sleep untill 3.50am !! Was very happy but just completely wide awake. Last night was OK so looks like it was a one off - she was bright as a button yesterday, which was more than could be said for Mummy and Daddy!

Found out two interesting things about my DD this week - the first is that she thinks she's a dog as she like to pick things up in her mouth and carries them around and also likes to shake water out of her sippy cup and then lick it off the wooden floor - revolting girl!!

The second is surprisingly she loves olives. Black, green, stuffed with feta cheese, covered in herbs and garlic -the lot get wolfed down. We were as tescos on saturday and she already eaten all her snacks and when i was at the olive bar filling up a tub she put her hand out for one, so I gave her it, she eat it and immediately put her hand out for another. By the time i got to the checkout my tub was half gone!!

Won't eat a cheese sandwich but will eat her weight in olives !!

Phew that was a lot for me! Have a good day all.

conkertree · 08/10/2008 10:03

hi hersetta - ds is very similar to your dd - the toy hugging thing is very very cute and he is also a big fan of olives - particularly if they are stuffed with garlic - his breath stinks afterwards though .

GillL · 08/10/2008 11:45

Hi all. Great to have you back James. Work is manic for me too. I don't know what to do first (mn comes quite high on the list ). Glad you're feeling better and that you've got someone to help you out/talk to. My cats aren't that bad as they're not kittens anymore but sometimes they drive me up the wall. If it's not the kids doing something to make me late for work it's our eldest cat being sick all over the kitchen floor.

meandmyjoe - sorry to hear joe has the bug. Hope he's feeling better soon. It's so awful when they're ill and you can't do anything to help. Dd was sick a few times between the ages of 1 and 2 and, because she drank so much milk, her sick was a nightmare to get out of the carpet. I found that the only thing she would eat when ill was biscuits.

Lizzie - sounds like you're having a rough time of it. Happy Birthday for tomorrow. Hope you can celebrate soon.

Conker - glad you had a good holiday. Ds is at the same stage of walking. He is happy to go in the buggy but if I'm carrying him to the car he wants to get down and walk. I find when I go to soft play with my friends and their dcs, none of them actually play together. They all go off in different directions and amuse themselves.

Hersetta - Lol at Caitlin thinking she's a dog. Must be so cute to see.

conkertree · 08/10/2008 13:38

happy birthday lizziemum - hope things calm down for one day or that you can have a surrogate birthday another day.

is your ds feeling better still today Gill? We have used calpol night a few times - and occasionally have used it when pharmacists have refused to sell us phenergan (which we had prescribed for ds but then ran out) to help him sleep when he has been scratching really badly.

think people may start to wonder why ds holds out his hands when you approach him with socks cause he wears them on his hands every night to bed, but rarely on his feet during the day.

lizziemun · 08/10/2008 16:10

Thanks for the birthday wishes.

And yes it does get better i get to spend all day saturday trapped on canal boat with the in-laws . I'm just so lucky .

My2 · 08/10/2008 19:45

happy birthday lizziemum (it's my birthday on sunday and i've asked DP for a lie in as my pressie!)

hersetta - at least Caitlin drinks clean water (off the floor) my dd2 loves to open the door of the washing machine and drink the water that's pooled in the rubber seal bit whilst making mmmmm mmmmm noises

gill - hope you are getting more sleep now? and ds is better?

conker - glad youhad a good holiday, sounds liek it was a fun time. don't worry about your ds poking dd2 gives as good as she gets! they'll probably stare at each other then wander/crawl off and do their own thing...

meandmyjoe - how are you all doing now?

meandmyjoe · 08/10/2008 21:03

Nott too bad thanks my2. He hasn't been sick or had diarohoea today but has been sooooo sleepy and so grumpy when he first wakes up . He's had 5 naps today, each an hour long and still went to bed at 7:30pm, I felt really tired and achey after the sickness had gone though so I'm hoping he'll sleep it off and be better in the morning. He's eaten tiny amounts though but it took about 3 days for my stomach to stop lurching at the sight of food so hopefully that will improve.

How's everyone else doing? Hope all the pgs are going well.

helibee · 08/10/2008 23:11

hiya, hope all poorly poeple are feeling better x

James good to hear from you and i hope the lady from homestart helps you to feel better too.

Callum also loves trying to lick up water that he's spilt. In fact his fav activity atm seems to be tipping water out of his beaker and then playing with it

conker and my2-pure mayhem sounds quite a good soft play for meeting up? conker do you want to text me 07967653718 and then we can sort things out, my2 i'll text you tomorrow

GillL · 09/10/2008 12:04

Hi all. Not much to report today really except that work is still manic. Dh is back home now. He has a new job with a different team at the same place. He won't have to spend much time away and will mainly be based at home. Fortunately he will be getting a company car so he will be selling his ridiculously expensive-to-run car

ds is much better now thanks. He's been sleeping really well for the past two nights too and waking up in a good mood.

Glad joe has improved meandmyjoe.

How is everyone today lizzie?

conkertree · 09/10/2008 13:34

thats great news about your dh gill - might make things a bit easier all round?

helibee - that sounds good - I will text you in a bit.

had scan today - all fine - was quite strange to see it there cause i had been pretty unsure this time cause of a lack of symptoms so was prepared for bad news, and it took her a while to find it, but then there it was. measured 11+6 which was exactly what i expected given that i had an exact 28 day cycle after Struan (sorry if tmi), so due on 24th April as I thought.

Can now get excited about it all. My bosses have a meeting with the bank this afternoon though so slightly nervous that they will be making some decisions after that about the future, but can only wait and see.

meandmyjoe · 09/10/2008 15:55

Fab news conker, glad everything looks OK. hope you can relax and enjoy it all now! Will you be finding out the sex next scan or are you wanting a suprise?

Joe is OK, slept for 12 hours straight last night but has had diarhoea again today . Still not eating much either, he just shakes his head at most things but have introduced milk again which he is keeping down.

conkertree · 09/10/2008 16:59

poor wee joe - sounds awful for the wee thing.

our health board make it a policy not to tell you the sex - i would like to know in one way but am also a fan of surprises so will just wait. Since ds though, Stirling has obtained a birthing pool so although its highly likely to be busy at the time, its nice to think its a possibility.

My2 · 09/10/2008 19:29

helibee and conker - pure mayhem is what it will be with my 2 mischief makers!

conker - glad to hear the scan went well, you can start thinking about things properly now, i felt like i was holding my breath until i got my 12 wk scans. will you do the 6 hour discharge (provinding everything is ok)?

meandmyjoe - glad joe's doing better, it's horrible when they are ill and you can't get them to understand why.

gill- that's good news about the car! does he get a choice of make of cars or do they just give him one? and really good that he will be around more.

GillL · 10/10/2008 13:35

I'm so pleased it's Friday I'm so tired. The dcs stayed asleep when we got home and woke up a couple of hours later so they were up late last night. Then dh kept me awake with his snoring. He always tells me to wake him up and send him downstairs but I don't have the heart.

conker - great to hear that all is well with the baby. Are you hoping to do anything differently this time with the birth? How is Struan sleeping these days?

Sorry to hear Joe still has an upset tummy meandmyjoe. Is he still in good spirits? I remember one time when dd had diarhoea and it squirted out of the side of her nappy onto my trousers - it was disgusting!!

My2 - dh will get to choose his car. There is quite a wide choice of manufacturers and he has his eye on a couple that he likes. Have you started your new job yet?

Are me and Hersetta the only ones left from SE England? The Maidstone girls seemed to have disappeared!

Hersetta · 10/10/2008 15:30

My2 - you win. your DD is more revolting, but it did make me lol!.

My horrid DD has woken up at 4.45 the last 2 morings and hasn't gone back to sleep untill 6am - just as I have to get up for work. She didn't get up this morning untill 9.25am whilst i was propping my eyelids up at work - little minx!.

lizziemun · 10/10/2008 16:37

GillL

Thanks for asking Lizzie better now just scabby so she can go back to school. As she told me this morning 'being at home is boring' .

So i sent her back to school today, and she got certifcate (sp) and a star badge for following the 'golden rules' and being helpful at school.

meandmyjoe · 10/10/2008 18:45

Awww well done to your dd1 Lizzie!

Hersetta, I know how you feel, Joe had us up at 4am this morning but he has been unwell.

He has been fairly OK today but still had 2 lots of diarhoea. The doctor gave us some powders to put in his water so he doesn't dehydrate. Atleast he's not being sick anymore. He ate a big breakfast, didn't want lunch but then ate a big tea and his bed time milk so hopefully he's getting slowly better. When I had the bug last week I was only ill for 2 days so I'm a bit worried that it's been 4 days for Joe now. Does it normally take babies longer to recover? He seems happy enough now though.

Anyway dh putting him to bed as I type so gonna go tidy up.

My2 · 10/10/2008 20:06

meandmyjoe - it probably takes us just as long to recover, it's just that we've got other things to be getting on with, so forget that we are not as well as we could be. whereas the little ones just need to bat their eyelids and we come running, give cuddles, play with them, more cuddles. sounds like he is on the mend though.

lizzie - that's lovely, what a clever girl she is

gill - that's good your DH gets a choice - it's good fun choosing a new car! yes i've started my new job (started the day they offered it to me...but still having to do my old one too...so 2 jobs whilst part-time....typical NHS will hopefully get someone to replace me soon....)

conker have you heard how your bosses meeting went with the bank? and anything about the other job you applied for?

dd2 was up half the night last night with the cold. so i've given her medised tonight to see if it helps her breathe more easily. her sleep has been crap lately - up at least once during the night for about an hour and lots of noises almost every hour or so and doing the 5am start..... on that note i'm off for a early night!

helibee · 10/10/2008 21:40

meandmyjoe-my2 is right but often babies immune systems are weaker so it can take a few more days to get them better. When i was a student nurse we had a family with 3 children aged 5, 3 and 8 months and they all had been very dehydrated with rotavirus and needed some IV fluids and they all went home in descending order of age-it also tends to take babies much longer to get their appetites back which gives us the energy to get well but Joe ate breakfast so thats good.

my2-hope dd2 is feeling better soon. Callums teeth are bugging him atm so gave him some medised last night which helped him but it doesn't sedate him at all

gill-thats exciting about dh's job and car-i'm looking forward to car hunting next year. Unfortunately our mortgage is coming to the end of a VERY GOOD fixed rate so thats prob going to go up by a wee bit. Hopefully the reduced interest rates will be passed onto us soon.

conker-thats very exciting about baby-will you not have moved by then? I'm very jealous-i saw the doc yesterday and he is running some tests and he's going to do a full hormone work up so that when we want to have dc2 it should be more straightforward! He's also doing a blood pregnancy test just to make sure for me and apparently i have heartburn without reflux so he's given me some omeprozole!

my2 and conker-what time for next week suits you best?

meandmyjoe · 12/10/2008 18:33

Hi all,

Joe has seemed a bit brighter today but is still needing a lot of distraction to be spoon fed. He seems to have absolutely no interest in feeding himself, even grapes are being thrown away which is most unlike him! He used to adore grapes and strips of cheese but now he doesn't want any of it, he's not really wanting his milk either so not sure if this is normal after a tummy bug. He's not been sick for 3 days now but still has really loose poo so hoping he'll be OK. It didn't take me any where near as long to recover!

He's still having the rehydration powder from the doctor but if no better tomorrow I think I'll take him back and see it the dr has any advice. At least he is eating small amounts when distracted by 'Roary the Racing Car'

My dad has come down with the tummy upset now so it must be going round the whole family!

GillL · 13/10/2008 11:40

Hello. Hope everyone had a nice weekend. Dh annoyed me yesterday. We had a mountain of washing up to do. He said that he would do it "in a minute" but he decided he would prefer to go to sleep on the sofa (even though I didn't get him up til 10am ). I did most of the washing up myself and kept saying to him that I wanted to get it finished so we could go to a country park to collect things for dd's autumn week at pre-school. He then announced that we would have to go soon so he could get back to watch the Formula 1. Poor dd got very upset when we had to leave the park after 20 minutes. I was quite with him.

Lizzie - glad Lizzie is better now. Well done for her star badge

My2 - sounds like my company - making you do 2 peoples' jobs. I asked my manager for a change and she told me that there was a project coming up. I thought that this would then be my full time job (when it starts) but then later on she asked me to confirm that I could do it alongside my current role. I struggle to get everything done now! Hope dd2 gets better soon.

helibee - Medised has never sedated my 2 either.

meandmyjoe - Glad joe is on the mend. When my dd has had a stomach upset before, it has taken her 2 weeks or more to get her appetite back.

I've got my fingers crossed that we don't get this bug. A couple of my colleagues have had it. The annoying this is, every time something like this is going round, I always get it first. I never actually get any time to recover because then dh and the dcs get it so I have to look after them.

Hersetta · 13/10/2008 12:38

meandmyjoe - Caitlin did the same after she had a tummy bug for a couple of days and lived on water and breadsticks. When she finally got her appitite back she wouldn't from some strange reason even consider putting toast or any sandwhich in her mouth. Just shook her head and waved her arms no when she saw it coming. This lasted for about 4 weeks and she has started eating toast again in the last week but still won't touch a sandwhich which is a pita as we can't eat on the run at the moment as previously she would happily much on a cheese sandwhich and a packet of quavers (bad mummy). Funnily enough she'll still eat the quavers!

Got to see how cunning she is yesterday as she was sitting on my dad's lap yesterday with her Dummy in and I went to the fridge and got out a pack of chocolate buttons my dad had brought her and opened them but didn't take one out so she didn't know what they were. She saw the packet and put her hand out, so I said to her she could have one but she would need to take her dummy out. Quick as a flash, her hand went up to her mouth and she whipped her dummy out and gave it to my dad and then put her hand back out to me. I was so shocked that she knew exactly what I was saying that all I could do was laugh.

GillL · 13/10/2008 15:23

Lol. Alex's dummy normally drops out as soon as he sees food It's amazing how much they understand. When we're in the kitchen and he's opening the cupboard doors, if I tell him to shut the door he does it. He opens it again straight away but I know he knows what I'm saying.
