Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
JamInMyWellies · 23/07/2008 17:01

If its any consellation PJ I have just eaten 2 massive Tesco finest choc chip cookies.

Also Archie decided he could climb out of the trolley while I was trying to pack the shopping just saw the trolley go sideways and A reaching for the conveyor belt thing

AprilMeadow · 23/07/2008 18:49

Elkiee, i hope all goes well with the CVS, i think you get the results back within about 2/3days.

Violet & Rose creams are totally aceptable for breakie, i think i had malteasers!

Ella has her MMR next Thursday and she is almost 16mths.

She has had visits to the next room up at nursery today and they have said that she is very clever [proud mummy emotion]. They gave all the babies 4 different coloured cups and 4 objects in colours to match with the aim of matching the colours up, Ella was the only one to get every colour correct without any help

She does say a few things that are recognisable as words and is a fan of pointing and jabbering to get what she wants.

Things are slowly coming together at the new place. Now have all the curtains up so the rooms all look more cozy. 3rd bathroom still not finished although the wall tiles are up and grouted now just waiting on the floor tiles to be done and shower screen to go up. Down stairs loo is done and just a few tweaks to be done to the kitchen.

Dh and i have been cleaning today and the old place is now spotless and grass all cut. Garage is still full but wont take long to move across. Got two agents coming this week to price up for letting.

Madame Jaffa where are you? Are you all ok?

scootermum · 23/07/2008 20:11

very of your lovely new house AM >>Scoot looks with loathing at her pink inherited shag pile

JamInMyWellies · 23/07/2008 21:14

He is fine Scoot just determined to give me a heart attack. He thought it was hilarious.

TheGreatScootini · 23/07/2008 21:50

Oh good, I was fearing some sort of horrid trolley injury.

I have name changed you will see.I reassure you however that I neither think im great, nor in anyway a Magician like figure..I just wanted to keep the 'Scoot' part and anything with Scoot in it that was vaguely sensible had been taken already..actually I perhaps am a magician because L said 'I love you Mummy and am sorry for screaming and shouting' today before she went to sleep and that was something of a magic moment (and one to bear in mind the next time she is whining/hitting me/poking M/going beseurk in the condiments aisle at Tesco)

TheGreatScootini · 23/07/2008 21:52

..which will be in approx 8 hours I imagine..Sorry have had two beers and feel quite tipsy..(saddo) and I do ramble on when im tipsy..I must go to bed..

Hope you have a lovely time LG&T.

Good luck with the CVS Elkie. It has reminded me that my LO has a 1 in 90 chance of being a Downs baby - we didn't have any further tests and I had completely forgotten .

Aaaargh - what planning a shopping day with DD1 as she had no clothes to go to her Dads (they are going tonight for 5 days). DD2 still at school today. Unfortunately nothing is that simple - she has broken off some tooth (don't know details as she is at a sleepover). Was hoping to go to Primark in Lincoln but will probably have to go to Grantham to see Dentist and make do with Matalan and Next Sale. Very annoying.

JamInMyWellies · 24/07/2008 08:22

SKY what a pain about the tooth. If there had been further signs of downs would they have see it at your anomoly scan?

LG&T have a fab time with TYG.

The great scootini loving the new name. Although thats someone else we have to shorten to THE .... are you and cam in cahoots?

MKG have you been to see your gynae yet?

20wk scan tom cant believe I am halfway there already!

JamInMyWellies · 24/07/2008 08:36

have just added a couple of photos of the monster, you can see why he gets away with everything.

Pinkjenny · 24/07/2008 08:57

Scoot - lovin the name change

AM - address please

LG&T - have a lovely time - where the feck are you going though?

Jam - A is so gorgeous - are you going to find out the sex of the new bubba tomorrow?

Pinkjenny · 24/07/2008 09:11

I was talking to one of the blokes in the IT dept yesterday about his dd who is 13mo. I was asking him my usual boring questions about her sleep, as I ask everyone. I am obsessed.

Anyway, he said, 'oh she never used to sleep, we used to have to lie with her until she went off, and then stay there with her, but now we just drug her'. Cue from me, and I said, 'what do you mean?', and he said 'we put medised in her bottle every night now, and she sleeps like a dream'.

JamInMyWellies · 24/07/2008 09:27

PJ . Shouldnt really laugh but it might work with Lexie.

Pinkjenny · 24/07/2008 10:28

There is no way in this world I would pickle her liver for the sake of sleep, Jam!!!!

Ask me again if she's still in with us when she's 16 though.

Seriously, I thought that was awful.

JamInMyWellies · 24/07/2008 11:28

That is really awful.

My DP's sister told us last Chrimbo that she sometimes gave her daughter 3 times the amount of dozol to get her to sleep mega we were so scared that she was going to give her a fatal overdose by mistake we asked DP's mum and dad to speak to her about it. She eventually told her HV about it there are lotdof probs with her relationship with her daughter and her HV helped her wean off it.

JamInMyWellies · 24/07/2008 11:29

Was only joking PJ know you would never do that.

Pinkjenny · 24/07/2008 11:58

I know you were Jam, A certainly doesn't look drugged!!

Gorgeous blonde curls.

I was more concerned that he actually admitted it to me, when I barely know him! L is sleeping really badly at the moment, even with us she's crying and fidgeting and doesn't seem settled.

But she is just getting a bit more confident with her walking now, and I remember SOH saying that M had been a bit unsettled when she started walking too.

Clutching at straws??

JamInMyWellies · 24/07/2008 12:23

I think lots of people do it PJ there was a thread a while ago where you could out yourself if you reg gave your LO medised etc to fall asleep with.

I would say its the walking A had a very weird week of sleeping when he started walking, its like their little bodies cant switch off cause they know there is places to go and explore now they can move. Also it will take her a while to adjust from being on hols.

Pinkjenny · 24/07/2008 12:50

Its funny, I've just been talking about it to one of the PAs and she has said she gives her 3yo Piriton to help him sleep, and then another manager came through who agreed that he did it too.

Am horrified. Genuinely.

twelveyeargap · 24/07/2008 14:59

Well LG&T is completely mad, but utterly lovely. Came all the way to see me... on the way to PLYMOUTH! "On the way" in the loosest possible sense of course. It's only about ooh, 5 hours out of the way.

Fab to see her and gorgeous Beau. Aoife and Beau played very nicely until Aoife decided she wanted Beau's cup. Then I gave her a similar one and Beau decided Aoife's was better. Then I gave him the same as Aoife's and he decided he'd like both. Hehehehe.

Scoot - About the tantrums. I am an ogre and used to just leave S wherever she was having a tantrum - even if it was in the middle of a supermarket aisle and ignore it. I think tantrums tend to be about lack of power or choice. If you have the patience, perhaps there's some way you can incorporate choice or the "illusion" of power into day to day dealings with L. For example, give her choices in things that don't really matter, like clothes or food. (Obviously the choices you offer will be good ones. ). If she wants something she can't have, resist saying "no", which will make her go off the wall, and offer the choice of something else instead or say "let's put it on the list of things you want". The list will probably be forgotten about anyway.

Main thing is, never "give in" to exactly what they want if a tantrum is involved. Stick to your guns and keep your own rules. "Distraction" is better than a blanket "no". Ignore bad behaviour and lavish attention on good behaviour. Remove "flashpoints", like keep biscuits/ sweets out of sight (or out of the house!)

Elkie - when you do get your test results?

AprilMeadow · 24/07/2008 19:08

Pink - whats your email? thought i had it but cant find it

elkiedee · 24/07/2008 19:47

PJ, I'd be shocked too.

TYG, test results will hopefully be available Monday, though my letter says 3-4 working days (which would be Tuesday/Wednesday).

AprilMeadow · 24/07/2008 20:45

I must be a terrible mother then

Medised worked for about a week, but he would still wake perhaps once. Piriton made him hyper. Vallergan (sleep meds from the doc) didnt touch him. So after trying many different drugs over a very long time (2yrs or so) we decided that nothing worked to get him to sleep.

We didnt give it to him every night, would try one thing and if that didnt work would try something else but perhaps 6mths later.... we are not good at sticking at something.

TheGreatScootini · 24/07/2008 21:12

Well what a 24 hours we have had. After seeing the GP yesterday who decalred M'S rash merely heatrash and was very disparaging, L came home last night and was very hot and lethargic and was up all night crying and drinking copious amounts of water.I assumed it was just the heat and perhaps a wee sun stroke.I dropped her off this morning at CM's and she was still a bit quiet but OK ish..The CM called DH an hour later to say L's hands, feet and tongue were covered in weeping sores and her temperature was sky high.
Dh went to get her and took her to the GP.Of course the both of them have got hand, foot and sodding mouth disease.
It is highly contagious apparently so we are in quarantine.
Poor L is really suffering as she cant walk very comfortably and her mouth is very painful.M seems not too bad, just hot and crotchety.
Adults can get it too (I googled) but not as bed, main symptom severe sore throat-which natch I have had all day.
I have had to do meetings all day on NO sleep (all the while feeling guilty for not being home with the DD's-DH was there but still),then at 3.30pm a Protection of vulnerable adults incident occurred so I had to deal with all that, whilst simultaneously attending the summer BBQ at my service at which lots of localsocial service bigwigs and dignatories needed to be entertained...Sheesh..

On the bright side it has been very hot so I did get to rock my new lovely Zara sun dress..and also there is some chance we may be able to postpone attending the family holiday...although L is so badly that even that brings little cheer..

Any word from Elkie?
I know lots of Mums who over use the old sleepy drops..cant be good in the long run?..not if the child is not like, a clinical poor sleeper..but then for that you would surely get something prescribed? That said im sure theres been times when Ive given it to mine when they may not have needed it, say for a mild cold, to kind off err on side of caution re getting them off to sleep, so maybe that makes me a doper too!

Rubbish re the tooth Sky-hope its all fixed know and DD's safely despatched to their Dads..and now for the birth!

Glad you had a good time with gandt TYG..Blimey, I hope she's got air con..its been sweltering today!

Does anyone know how you give Calpol and Nurofen in conjunction..is it Calpol then 2 hours later Nurofen and so on, or is it still 4 hours between doses of either one?

elkiedee · 24/07/2008 21:27

Eek Scoot, how horrible.

I'm just waiting for results and to see if I get any symptoms of things going wrong now.

Of course D doesn't want to sleep, had apparently gone but woke up 5 minutes after being brought home in the buggy and put in his cot. And I've had sharp words with dp, as if I'm not meant to bend and lift, I really don't want to be left alone with a crying baby when dp loses patience, and I thought I'd spelt out very clearly on Tuesday - do not do this on Thursday night as it will put me in a difficult situation. Aarrrrghhhh!
