ok, take care

HellHathNoFury · 16/08/2008 20:03

Evening. Daisy sorry to hear about your injuries, hope you are feeling better.

Well done on the alpha mumness Jammy. Good to have those days eh?

I have been up since 5am. Been shopping, done housework, mum came over and I took her out to lunch, cooked pad thai for dinner. Took DS to the GP yesterday, he has a chest infection and isn't very well.

DS was fab, took him to strada and he had spag bol. He was applauded by the waiter for feeding himself - he does now eat everything himself, ie, rice krispies, noodles etc with his little plastic fork and spoon jobbies but he has really only just started. Is everyone else doing the eating themselves thing? I don't know if he is fast/average/slow for it. Either way, He is really enjoying eating like mum and dad now, he has a hissy fit if we try to help him.

Shame he is ill, he has been under the weather for a while, he is very tired and fractious.

LackaDAISYcal · 16/08/2008 20:28

hey fury

DD is starting to feed herself and is getting good at stabbing things with a fork. She is a bit less good with a spoon though as she gets so giddy about getting anything on it that she waves it about in excitement and loses what was on it whilst redecorating the kichen

She takes bloody ages though, and the fact that anything that lands on the table gets studiously put back in the bowl just makes for an even longer mealtime.

Sorry DS is poorly again. He has been having a run of it hasn't he?

Casualty isn't on....thinking I might get off to bed now

Hello everyone.

Daisy, I hope you feel better soon. It'd be such a shame if you didn't make it down on Weds. On that note, Trace or Storm (or anyone else) - we have a spare room with a double bed, and room for a travel cot (just!) if anyone would like to come and doesn't have anywere to stay.

Personally, I think Kew is good, even if it's not great weather. There are the greenhouses, of course. There is also 'Climbers and Creepers' which is a plant-based indoor play area. Supposedly for the over 3s but DS loves it in there. There are also a range of cafes. I may be a bit biased though as I am a season ticket holder . It is quite expensive though.

Eddie Katz in Putney is also a good idea as all ages of DCs can rampage around without fear of them getting lost /serious injury. They also have sofas, etc so you can sit and chat.

Given the crappy weather at the moment, my vote would go to Eddie Katz I think. But I am happy to be over-ruled.

LackaDAISYcal · 16/08/2008 20:59

I should've bought a seven seater and then I could've driven trace down with me

Hopefully things will be better by Wednesday

Ds will be mightily disappointed; he has done one MN meetup and is now an expert....and he is desperate to meet Holly

yes sir, fairyfay sir

talk to you all tomorrow.

It's for your own good Daisy - sleep well

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 16/08/2008 22:10

MRR has good taste daisy ! I can't wait to meet him too, he sounds like fun! Hope you are ok, your injury sounds hellish. Hope it is just a pulled muscle and it is better tomorrow.

Hi everyone else, hope you are all well. I am really hoping I pass my test in Monday, so I can drive up to see you all. I can still come if I don't, but I'll have to catch the train, which is a PITA. It might be fun though, ds is bloody obsessed with trains atm, esp Thomas. He runs round the house like a maniac most of the day going "toot, toot"!

Jammy, you are a super star mum! That all sounds very energetic! They had a big tub of pasta at toddlers on thurs, it was a farking nightmare! Ds sat in it and was eating it, he had it all squished into his shoes, trousers, nappy, hair etc. I had to strip him off to take him home in the sling. Dd was nearly as bad too, she was covered in crusty starch and slimy bits of spaghetti. Funnily enough my dcs were the only ones who seemed to get involved, everyone else's had a little play and went and did something else. One mum asked me if I bought ds for everyone else's amusement, I replied "No, I bring him to make you all realise your children aren't actually as naughty as you think they are!". Hope you have fun with the pasta!!

My ds will feed himself, but he HAS to have a fork! Even if it's finger food he still uses a fork! I made him a bowl of strawberries and blueberries to eat with his hands and he toddled off and got himself a fork! He does make a bloody mess though and hardly actually eats anything, most of the food gets chucked on the floor or spat out. He has such a short attention span that he puts something in his mouth, gives it a bit of a chew, sees something more interesting on his plate, spits out what is in his mouth and puts in the new interesting thing! This goes on until everything on his plate is half chewed, he then grabs hold of the bowl and lobs it across the room. I am very glad I have a shitty carpet!

I am absolutely physically exhausted atm. I really feel like I have never been to sleep. Ds is so tiring and wants bfing all the sodding time. I just can't be bothered to say no and have him throw himself on the floor and have a screaming hissy fit. I have had tonsilitis twice in the past month and dp doesn't make it any easier by snoring. Most nights ds and I end up on the floor in ds's room. I'm in a bad cycle of things that I really need to break. I think the first thing to sort out is ds's sleeping. He needs to sleep at night otherwise I am going to freak out. He has never, not once, slept through. last night he was awake from 1.30 til 3, just rolling and moaning and bfing.

I just feel really sorry for my poor dd. She is so lovely and I just keep snapping at her and telling her off all the time. I know that when she is naughty that she is mostly attention seeking and I feel bad that I can't give her all the attention that she needs because I can't leave ds for a second otherwise he'll kill himself. The other day I was at my parent's and I walked into the kitchen and he was stood on the worktop, he is a complete headcase!

Sorry about the self obsessed moany post there, I needed to offload!!

I'm going to bed now. Love you all xxx

Sputnik · 16/08/2008 22:38

Holly, sounds like you are going through a really tough time. I can sympathise a bit as my DS occasionally does the rolling around bfing and moaning thing at night for an hour or more. Did it last night in fact. I'm there half asleep but worrying he'll roll off the bed. Luckily he esn't do it most nights but IKWYM. Not sleeping through here either. He seemed to be heading that way for a while but has gone back to waking at night.

No advice really, but tonnes of sympathy
And don't be a stranger, you have been missed.

Best of luck with your test Monday.

FrazzledFairyFay · 17/08/2008 01:01

Big sympathy from here too Holly. The only reason I'm up now is because DS is. Are you sure that you don't have my DS? He too has a death wish and will only eat with a fork . We missed you, btw.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 17/08/2008 08:28

I was actually up at 1am too, because of my dodgy guts again They weren't particularly productive, but VERY gurgly, and I was scared to go to sleep incase anything happened. Eventually after about 3 hours tossing and turning I realised that the worst gurgles came when I turned over, so I lay dead still and things calmed down and I could sleep. Amazingly i woke at 6, and after just 5 hours sleep still felt great! I think it helped that jamlet slept until 7.30, so I had an hour and a half of gentle reading. Well as gentle as Stephen King gets

Fury, sorry to hear about DS's chest. Hope he clears up soon.
Daisy hope you're feeling a bit better this morning and that we can see you on Thursday.
Holly, good to see you again and you have my sympathy too. And good luck for Monday.
Fairy and Sputnik, sorry I missed you last night - hope you got some sleep in the end.

Mmmm, heavy rain showers forecast for Thursday. Personally i'd give Kew a go if it is going to be showers, but like Fury I am happy to be over ruled.

LackaDAISYcal · 17/08/2008 11:00

DH and I were like ships in the night last night. Either I was waking him up or he was waking me up but we were both up every hour but never saw each other yet!

Holly, your DS sounds like a right handful and poo pants on the tonsilitis and the lack of sleep. Mine is mostly pregnancy related and I'm not exactly taxing myself during the day so can't complain really. Good to see you back here though; we miss you . Good luck for your driving test.

sorry about the tum jammy.....maybe chinese wasn't such a good idea!

sputnik I hope your DS settles into a nightime routine soon. I guess I'm pretty lucky that DD sleeps through most nights. DH said she was up a couple of times last night and he had to give her a cuddle back to sleep. I'm sure she does this when I'm on my own with her but I don't even hear her most nights

tummy still very sore today so am sporting my rather attractive full body elastic bandage again. But DH has taken DS fishing, DD has been dropped off at the GPs so I have a bit of P&Q. Am catching up on some knitting, doing my tester forms for M&B , and reading up on my BFC course. I have two pieces of written work to complete before the first tutorial. The tutor said they aren't obligatory, but I want to show willing. I need to sort out references and funding as well. so much to do and not enough time to do it in!

Back to work.

HollyPutTheKettleOn · 17/08/2008 14:43

I love you guys! Thanks for the sympathy! I felt much better after unloading last night and had a reasonable night's sleep, so feel a bit better today.

I'm doing the tester forms atm as well daisy. 'Tis tres dull! Hope you get yours finished soon. I am attending my first bfc tutorial on the 6th and I'll be given the first two pieces of work to do there. I also need to sort out funding. Yet another reason to pass my driving test, the tutorial is a good hour's drive away. Hope your tummy is ok.

Jammy, hope you are feeling better.

Anyone else obsessed with the olympics? I love how we are winning loads of medals!

I've put my crappy old fridge and freezer on ebay and I've got loads of interest! I can't believe that someone would actually want them, we were going to take them down the tip! They work and are clean and everything, but are just a bit shit!

LackaDAISYcal · 17/08/2008 16:32

advice needed from those with older DCs...first timers don't click. Your time will come I'm sure, but no need for you to be traumatised at the minute

holly, DS has really been engrossed in the olympics so far. I've loved watching it as well. Am disappointed in the Athletics though as we aren't doing very well there. What happened, we used to have great athletic teams?

OP posts:
HollyPutTheKettleOn · 17/08/2008 16:38

no advice daisy, but you have my sympathy. I do think it's almost an inevitable part of childhood, like nits.

LackaDAISYcal · 17/08/2008 16:50

the getting rid advice inlcudes vacuuming and damp dusting....daily . Am that my untidy not cared for house might be making things worse, but I need to find the shelves first before I even think about dusting.

OP posts:
HollyPutTheKettleOn · 17/08/2008 17:13

I don't think hoovering your floor is going to make much difference tbh (unless your ds poos on it and then licks it)! I think washing the bed sheets and his pjs and undies on a hot wash will be enough. I know a lot about the life cycle of the threadworm (studied it in biology A-Level...yuk!). Getting rid of them is all about getting the worms and eggs out of your system as the worms die after laying eggs, so don't actually live inside you for long. If you were to get them they would get out of your system pretty quickly as I'm sure you don't scratch your bottom and then put your fingers in your mouth! Children, however, are a different story! That is why the advice is to keep finger nails short, the eggs irritate the skin and cause itching, they then get trapped under fingernails and get transferred into the mouth and the cycle continues. Oh disinfect the bath though as eggs can get there!!

Hope I've been graphic enough there!!

I'm sure that is one of many joys I have to come, along with head lice, chicken pox.....

trace2 · 17/08/2008 17:48

hi all is anyone selling any girls 6 to 9 months clothes?

LackaDAISYcal · 17/08/2008 18:09

trace, I have some bits and pieces that were handed down to us from my BIL that you can have if you like

OP posts:
LackaDAISYcal · 17/08/2008 18:11

holly, apparently the eggs can live for a couple of weeks and can fly everywhere when changing clothing and bedding and even be inhaled.
