I'm going to France tomorrow! Hurray hurray can't wait. Have to go pack up the car now with the millions of things babies need (rest of our stuff teeny tiny amount)

See you in a week ladies! xxx

SalLikesCoffee · 01/08/2008 20:44

Have fun, Ellie!!!

scorpio1 · 01/08/2008 21:14

Ellie. we are going in September.

Soz for bringing thread down, i feel better now

LadyBee · 01/08/2008 21:31

Have a lovely time Ellie! v jealous - I've been starting to crave a trip away, don't think there will be any in the near future though, funds looking decidedly dodgy.

Scorpio and VS, you ladies are something else with your great big hearts, not only do you take care of several DC of your own, you have extra bods, waifs and strays that get scooped up into the mix as well. I don't know how you do it. My hat is off to you both and I don't think either of you should feel bad for not feeling totally ok with it all the time. No one expects you to be a saint 24/7

I have no plans for the weekend. I feel both happy and a bit about this.

scorpio1 · 01/08/2008 21:34

i have no plans for tomorrow and am at the idea!

DH is now coming home in the small hours, so at least he will be here tomorrow; maybe go out for a walk by the sea or something.

Millie looks like she has grown today, her face looks different. I need to get her some new clothes as well, she is growing too fast! Trip to Next maybe in order tomorrow then

scorpio1 · 01/08/2008 21:34

oh and Ladybee - that was a lovely thing to say

SalLikesCoffee · 01/08/2008 21:47

I second Ladybee. You might not feel 100% overjoyed all the time, but no-one would, and no-one can expect you to. The sad bit is that, in this whole world, you're probably the persons that actually care for these children the most. The fact that, even when they're playing up, you, and not the mom, seem to be the only one that cares enough to get the poor dc to the dr ect says so much about your heart. I can't even imagine how hard it must be, but I just think it says something about the kind and decent person you are. Getting fed up with it sounds normal and almost expected sometimes to me. Good luck.

VictorianSqualor · 02/08/2008 08:58

Fuck, Alex just fell off the bed.
He had been in between me & DP but I didn't hear DP get up and Alex had obviously rolled over a few times so I got woken up to a huge bang and him screaming.

He's fine but it wasn't nice.

Ladybee, I'm nothing like Scorpio, I only have this kid twice a week during holidays as a favour, I could quite easily just leave her be, the school would soon help her with her reading or something, if Scorpio wasn't there for Z who would be?

OP posts:
SalLikesCoffee · 02/08/2008 10:46

Hope your heart's recovered, VS!!! I'm sure A is fine, but can only just imagine the shock! I upturned R's buggy once (oh, I still don't know what on earth I did!), and I was shaking for ages! (He, on the other hand, was fine and smiling again by the time I picked him up.) Start your Saturday with a nice glass of wine for breakfast - this sounds like reason enough.

For all the times that I've moaned about DH, I want to say this morning how absolutely lovely he is!!! I know it's his son as well etc etc, but he's been up since 6 this morning, feeding, changing, playing with R, leaving me to sleep. Then when I got up he refused to let me do anything, brought me coffee etc. Changing nappy as we speak. How I love him.

LadyBee · 02/08/2008 14:53

oof - that must have been a shocking awakening VS. I'm completely paranoid about DS starting to roll when he's on his cot top changer (oh, just had an idea, why haven't I just moved the changer more the centre of the cot so less far to fall and softer landing - duh)

You say you could just as easily let your friend's kid be, but the thing is, your instinct is not to, when you see something important like delayed reading skills, you don't automatically shrug and say 'not my problem', and I think that's what makes all the difference.
So just sit down and accept the compliment woman

I also got to have a lie-in today (well, feeding DS at 3 and 7) but apart from that DP has been very good about taking care of him and even brought me tea and toast in bed. This might be because I have been very loudly and obviously complaining that I have a cold and feel crap and tired but the result is what counts, isn't it?

SalLikesCoffee · 02/08/2008 22:27

Ladybee, I know you're close but can't remember exactly how close, but if you're free coming Wednesday, I'm hoping to meet up with a couple of local mumsnetters here.

Mum2BabyRoo, I know you're this direction as well, are you close? It will probably be only 1 or 2 others. Obviously if I'm missing anyone else that might live in the area, please come!

VictorianSqualor · 03/08/2008 13:04

We got a great deal on Sky yesterday!
I called them to cancel before we move as I'm not prepared to pay £60 moving fee.

They offered me it half price, I said no, they offered it free, I said no, they offered it free & a half price sky plus box, I said no, they offered me a sky plus box for £49 (1/4) I said no and so on, my end offer was a free sky plus box, free moving house, free sky plus installation, and down to the basic channels&kids&music for £17 a month

OP posts:
scorpio1 · 03/08/2008 13:06

you jammy cow

i feel fat today. have got to start eating better. my tummy doesnt seem to be shifting anymore

LadyBee · 03/08/2008 18:13

Excellent deal VS - we left Sky for that reason, went to virgin. I guess they've suddenly realised they need to work a bit harder to keep their customers now, a good thing.
So does that mean you've put down the deposit on the house you liked? It sounds like it is going to really simplify your life being so close to school & nursery.

Sal - meet up sounds good, am pretty sure I'm free. Hope to be over my cold by then too. Will add my name.

Very quiet weekend here, probably too quiet, I had to resort to planting chives and going to the co-op as my activities which is a bit sad tbh. Oh well, wasn't feeling up to much anyway with snuffly nose, sore throat and now a cough. Poor me poor me.

Am scared witless excited about the week ahead though - we've got people coming around for dinner!!! That means I have to:

  1. Get the house into some sort of order
  2. Somehow get a dinner prepared so that it can be cooked & served at a normal sort of time
  3. Try to ensure babybee is in bed in time for point 2 above to happen.
eek! Might try to get the hoovering done this evening, for some reason that's the one that I can never do when I'm looking after DS during the week.
VictorianSqualor · 03/08/2008 18:53

Yeah, we've put the deposit down.
The house isn't as big as the one we are in now, but it'll do for a year until we can get a decent enough deal on a mortgage. It's three bedroom, big enough lounge, kitchen/diner and has a larger garden than ours, plus a garage.
Garage isn't really big enough for our car but it's good for storage and 'man things'

It's right through the alleyway to the school, about 2 minutes walk maximum, and next to the school is the chinese/indian/tesco/hairdressers which will be nice, at the moment living in this bloody village it's so annoying needing something and realising the shop shuts at 7pm or noon at weekends.

Thing is it has no bath, just a shower, which means there is tons of floor space in the bathroom, but for a year we can cope with showers only, there is a little 1/2 inch deep bottom to the shower which we can put a plug in for Alex if he needs a bath rather than a shower.

£185 per month extra on rental but if we stay here I will have to get the 8:10am bus to town, 8:30 bus to school, drop E&B off, 9:15 bus back to town, 9:45 bus back to home, then get the bus back to town at 10:10!!!(I may as well stay on the bus rather than get off then go across the road to wait for it to do two stops and turn around!! I'd pick DS up and be back from there at1:10pm, and have to get the bus back to town again at 2:10 so I would have one hour to do lunch and then off we go again! Getting home at 4pm. It would also cost £250+!! B won't be starting nursery the first week, I'll call them and explain and then when we move on the 13th sept he can start the following monday.

OP posts:
VictorianSqualor · 03/08/2008 18:55

Oh, also it will save DP 6 miles per journey to and from his station which will equal about 60 miles a week!

DD is just cooking her first roast dinner. It was so sweet watching DS sat on the floor peeling carrots, then DD has typed out everything that has to be done and is following it all to the letter.

OP posts:
LadyBee · 03/08/2008 20:36

My cousin's children have all only ever had showers right from when they were newborn, her DH takes them in with him when he gets home from work. Cousin doesn't bathe children because of severe epilepsy (chance of seizure happening while one of them was in water is too great to risk), and her DH feels that doing baby bathing isn't his style (he's a kiwi builder), so it's always been showers. Works for them.

Sounds soooo much more convenient - all that bussing would have been a nightmare, tiring and expensive and the potential for general arsiness of driver/other passengers would just add to the stress.

So you'll be packing up - good luck with that (I loathe packing. There aren't many things I hate in this world but packing is one of them. Even packing a suitcase for a holiday puts me into a tailspin).

PAL are you out there? Do you remember the lightweight sling you were wearing at the last meetup? You told me what it was and I've forgotten. Can you tell me again pls?

VictorianSqualor · 03/08/2008 20:39

LadyBee, I have recently got a mei tai, I love it. If you think you might like one go to ebay.com and look for one under $37 then you can get it duty free and about a third of the price they are here.

OP posts:
Mum2BabyRoo · 03/08/2008 21:19

Hey all - hope you have all had good weekends! We spent today at a friends haouse having a bbq (in the rain - doesn't stop a saffa!)

Sal - thanks for the invite - unfortunately I've already got something on. Maybe next time?

VS - I've been looking at the mei tai too - and I have to ask - is it better on the back than the Baby Bjorn? The Baby Bjorn KILLS my back! Also - looking at the mei tai's on the american ebay - are they all the same thing or should I be looking at a particular one? Oh - and congrats on the new house - hope you will spend a very happy year there! My DH's cousin has twins and they have hardly ever bathed - they pretty much always go in the shower with their Dad and they love it! How was DD's roast dinner? She sounds like a lovely little girl!

Scorpio - I hear you - after all losing all that weight in pregnancy I am slowly but surely putting weight on again. HAVE to start being better at what I shove down my gob!

LadyBee · 04/08/2008 08:32

I have a growly bear, not a baby
For the last couple of days I've been thinking Babybee has been really uncomfortable, groaning and straining most of the day but now I think he's just discovered a new sound and is trying it out constantly.
He also has decided that there is no point in living if living is without his hands, or a muslin cloth, or a toy, or my elbow, in his mouth.
Which is fine, but does make it quite tricky to know whether he's hungry or just awake. Anyone got any tips for being able to see whether they're hungry before they burst into tears?

VictorianSqualor · 04/08/2008 08:40

The mei tai is really comfy I hardly know I'm wearing it, not at all like the ring sling I have which I HATE, and easy to do up, I have this one they're all pretty much the same thoguh, if you look at this one the 'mei tai' is a style of carrier so they alter slightly but are based on the same pattern.

Thanks VS - funnily enough the one you got was the one I was looking at!

Have my MRI and physio today - all to do with the vertigo. I am so tired of getting it now - it makes me feel awful, and although I have pills that help control it, they make me feel a bit bleugh as well.

VictorianSqualor · 04/08/2008 09:50
