BTW suey, in your professional capacity (!), what is your opinion of pilates? I have been to a couple of classes recently and really enjoyed tham and am hoping they might sort out my two-baby jelly belly - am I living in a dream world?

suey2 · 05/09/2008 15:54

hey skid- pilates is fab- when the teacher is good. The perfect thing to get the flat tummy back. Thanks for nod on a pad in the nappy- will look for one. Ironically, earlier this week i decided not to put another nappy on as it was so close to bathtime and when i put millie in her cot while i ran the bath she stood up and peed between the bars! Had i been ready with the bottle at the time it would have been easy. Fortunately her changing mat was pulled out so it didn't go all over the carpet.

oops! not on my iphone today either!

Amani · 05/09/2008 16:42

Suey2 - thanks will be bombaring the dietician with lots of queries. Will ask about anemeia, being refered to a peaditirican (sp?) as suggested by someone on the Jan 08 thread

Clairybee - can you believe I tried to give DD2 some of my lovely M&S chocy mousse and she just wasn't interested.....Been so desperate to try and get something inside that I've tried various chocolate desserts, biscuits, cakes - and still a bit fat NO from her.

Bouncing/skid - I thought it was normal aswell for babies to babble at this stage, but my HV got me worried saying that she should be saying mama, dada around now....is there something wrong with my child or have i seen a sh!t HV?

Amani · 05/09/2008 16:44

Oh, by the way back to work next week.....

Had a few drop in sessions at nursery with DD2 and she was so settled and didn't cry...and the staff were really friendly and said they will keep offering her lots of food if she is very fussy with them (as hoping DD2 might enjoy some of the varied meals the nursery has to offer and scoff it all up and put on lots of weight...)...

Amani · 05/09/2008 16:58

Forgot to mention to all those lovely ladies who provided a response to my plea ages ago regarding having a baby who is stuck to me like velcro....things have improved she will now sit on her own in room, so long as I am there or if I nip out for a few mins, she is fine as long as she can hear me....slowly improving....

Sorry to be a bit scatter and incoherant in my messages, DDs are asleep so trying to lots of things at one...

Oh by the way, forgot to mention (aswell!) DD1 started biting and hitting D2 (HARD!)...don't know what to do, trying to 'Ignore the bad and prasie the good' but not going to plan...

claireybee · 05/09/2008 17:31

Very well thank you caz, absolutely no problems whatsoever skid it was funny to see them both there, even ds was cramming them in as fast as he could before i could get there to take them away!hope milos eye is better soon amani send dd2 to me-my two will soon teach her the joys of chocolate! They definitely put on weight in stops and starts though,ds seems to go really skinny every few weeks before filling out again.on our way to my sisters wedding reception, cant wait to put the dc in their bridesmaid and pageboy outfits!

cazzybabs · 05/09/2008 19:28

I am not pregnant - HORRAH and phew!!! Now I have cut down on breastfeeding due to the demands of work I must sort out contraception. Evie is doing OK at nursery although she is very clingy to dh when he drops her off and she also refuses any milk (all that bloody expressing!!!!).

Caz10 · 05/09/2008 20:23

Oh same here cazzy, was expressing like mad and she was knocking it back, have given up now and fingers crossed supply seems ok with my morning, afternoon and evening feeds. (oh, and the 300 at night!)

dd has a big bad snotty cold , can hardly breathe, no appetite etc, have had a testing couple of nights, lots of crying etc.

clairey have a fab night, you must post cutey bridesmaid/pageboy pics.

zzzzzzz tired........

oh the Gill Rapley book is available to pre-order on amazon now, I know it's a bit late for us, but I thought i might get a copy just out of interest and can most likely ebay it later!

BouncingTurtle · 05/09/2008 20:39

Hello!

Well my first week back at work has been a busy one! Luckily Daniel has settled into nursery better than I thought. I'm now worried he is going to find home rather boring!!!

Hope you all have a good weekend!

suey2 · 05/09/2008 20:39

oh is that the BLW one, caz?

Caz10 · 05/09/2008 20:44

yip! here

insywinsyspider · 06/09/2008 21:30

amani - sorry to hear DD1 is hurting DD2, we've had ds1 getting frustrated with ds2 since he's become mobile, luckerly he doesn't hit him but will push him off or do one kick out if he messes with a toy he's really into - how old is dd1? ds1 is going to be 2.5 yrs in Nov and we use time out which works really well for him... but it might change! we also have a playpen and I will put ds1 in there with his lego sometimes as then he can play in peace

got ds's 8 months check appointment thro, typically for a date I can't make, I hate the fact they make an appointment for you, we can never do it, its always always the boys nap time

claraquitetirednow · 07/09/2008 08:26

Hi Insy, thanks for the info on the eight month check. I am not too worried about missing it, dd2 seems very healthy and is even sleeping through the night again now that she has stopped teething (for now!). I think she weighs about 20lbs but not sure where that is on the line. she is definitely not underweight though.

amani we also have problems with dd1 trying to hurt dd2. When dd2 was first born I was quite smug and thought we weren't going to have the problems that others did with the elder sibling trying to hurt the younger. However now that dd2 is mobile (and a very fast crawler/cruiser), and always trying to reach dd1's toys or food,dd1 is getting very frustrated with her and forever pushing her away. I have actually noticed dd2 retaliating though. As she is quite a large baby, I don't think it will be long before she can stand up for herself!

Sorry to hear about your dd2's slow weight gain. Is this simply because she isn't eating or is it just that she isn't the "right" weight compared to the figures? I can't remember what your ethnicity is but most Asian babies are a lot smaller and lighter than us hefty Westerners.

Skid I love love love pilates and am hoping to do it out here soon as there is a teacher who is due to start classes now that summer is over. I need it though, we do nothing but eat here and I am not yet organised enough to do much exercise (that's going to change from tomorrow, I think I'm going to go to the gym in the morning).

Has anyone read or got a book called "How to talk to your kids so that they really listen" (or something)? I have just ordered it as I am sick of always being at loggerheads with dd1. It could be that the move has just been very unsettling for her and she is just going through a bad stage but for the first time since she was a newborn I really feel in need of some parenting advice!

cazzybabs · 07/09/2008 08:50

clareq - we have that book. It is fab - not that I do it

suey2 · 07/09/2008 14:24

hey amani i was feeding millie some mackerel for the first time today- a great surprise to me that she loved it striaght away. I remember that i ate a lot of mackerel when PG and wondered if there was anything you ate a lot of that you may be able to tempt lo with?

BouncingTurtle · 07/09/2008 15:39

Hi everyone, how has your weekends been?

Insy - I quite agree, surely it would make more sense for them to send you a letter or call you to arrange an appointment? Because that's what you'll end up doing when they send you one that simply isn't convenient!

Cazzy - yey for you that you are not pg! Daniel is also refusing his milk, but also I am crap and have only been able to express a few oz during the day, so instead of them offering it and him refusing it, I've been using to make his cereal which the nursery staff given him in the morning. He has been drinking water, he had a whole cupful on Friday, and is getting much better with his doidy cup!

I do feel like I'm a bit rubbish at feeding him at weekends, foodwise, not milk! He gets a pretty good and varied diet at nursery and I seem to be struggling a bit with what to give him at weekends! I can cook but am a bit of a picky eater so my repertoire is a bit limited... luckily he loves his fruit because I always have plenty of that in the house!

Caz10 · 07/09/2008 21:22

Hi everyone!
Hope everyone is having a nice weekend.

clara how many weeks is your dd, I will look in the red book and tell you what line she's on if you want!

BT can I ask a massive favour, and only if you have time, but if you get a home diary from your ds's nursery could you post some egs of what he eats in the week? I am totally struggling too, feel like we have stalled at the fruit/toast/yoghurt stage!

suey I would have to give dd some galaxy to test that theory!

oooh random qu but keep meaning to ask - those of you who don't use grobags, what bedding do you use with your los? Mine is such a thrasher, I think she would just end up throwing it off? But do think her wee cot looks so bare sometimes, plus she is almost out of her grobags

claraquitetirednow · 08/09/2008 07:10

Hi everyone
Caz - thanks, I am not sure how many weeks she is, she was born 11 Dec so coming up to 9 months. She is probably at the bloater end of the scale!
Those struggling with food have you tried lentils? They are very easy to do and nutritious and most babies seem to love them. I usually adapt an Annabel Karmel recipe which uses various veg (eg cauliflower, courgette etc) but also apple to sweeten it.
Other quick and easy recipes that I do include:

  • cauliflower cheese
  • pasta with a veg or tomato sauce
  • chicken and veg (cooked then pureed)
  • pasta, pesto sauce and peas
  • baked beans and a fishfinger mushed up in it
  • pasta and cheese sauce
  • bolognese sauce and cous cous

That's probably not much help but may be some inspiration!

Right off to pick up dd1 from her fourth day at nursery. More tears this morning but I am sure she's putting it on a bit now as I think she enjoys herself while she is there!

suey2 · 08/09/2008 09:30

hi all,
millie's favourite has to be chicken with onions, garlic, lemon and a herb (usually basil, tarragon or rosemary)
she has a cold, but having had a miserable day yesterday, has perked up no end today. (typical when i am at work!)

macdoodle · 08/09/2008 11:31

Gosh you are all so good - I just feed Lily whatever we are eating either as a finger food or mashed up...she seems to eats most things but her absolute best is broccoli she holds stalk and kinda sucks the top off but grabs more
If what we are having is really not suitable she has a jar - she likes the plum pots the best...
At a party yesterday she was sat on floor next to a friends 2 year old reached over and nicked his jammy dodger Thats my girl

skidaddle · 08/09/2008 14:15

Hi everyone,

I'm with you macdoo - Milo just gets whatever we are having and has not refused anything yet. Also with you on the big baby front - Milo just had his 8 month check and he is just over 10kg!! Much too big for his car seat which we are still squeezing him into, poor thing. I think that makes him about 80th percentile which I quite like as DD is a bit of a titch (but I also like that because it makes her all the cuter)

caz10 -we had the grobag/blanket dilemma with DD and ended up buying her a really big grobag (18mth-3yrs I think) which she stayed in until we put her in a bed with a duvet. Grobags are just so much easier

cazzy - phew about not being pregnant!

clara - how was the gym? did you make it? Glad to hear DD1 seems to be slowly settling into her nursery - is leaving her becoming slightly less traumatic now?

amani and clara- Re jealousy towards DD2 I think most children go through it either when 2nd child is born or when second child becomes mobile so you are just suffering now rather than 8 months ago. Having suffered 8 months ago I think doing it your way is definitely preferable - is that any consolation at all (probably not)?!

clairey - cute wedding outfits picture please!

It is our first wedding anniversary today - DH said to me last night,
'I love that you don't care about presents and cards and all that rubbish, that's one of the reasons I married you'
hmm, wonder what that could be leading up to... then he said,
'I was going to surprise you but I'll just tell you, I was planning for us to wait and have a nice dinner after the DCs go to bed tomorrow'
whoopy doo, dinner an hour later than normal, what a treat - anyway I suggested we go out for dinner and so we are, but you'd think it might have occurred to him as well! Just as well i didn't marry him for his romantic spontaneity...

Amani · 08/09/2008 16:15

Hi all,

Skid - congrats on your wedding anniversary!

Clara - yes am Asian so it might be connected to DD lower weight. Actually was speaking to another mum whose DD2 is 1 day younger than mine and her DD2 weighs a couple of ounces more than mine and her HV is totally laid back about her weight gain.

On the sibling rivalry front - DD1 whacked DD2 hard on the face this morning...

skidaddle · 08/09/2008 16:54

oh no amani - what do you do when she hits her - have you tried the 'time out' thing? Or a sticker chart (i.e. taking stickers away when she hits)? I'm not the best with discipline so not sure what to suggest - hope your DD2 was OK though
