July 2008 - Now our babies are arriving let's have a thread to talk about them...

Hi ladies
I know there are many of us still to pop but thought it would be nice to start a thread that we can come to once the LO's are here

Abbie is 4 weeks and 3 days old today and my due date isn't here yet

Abbie is doing great - eating and sleeping and very content. The feeding was hard going at first as it is very frequent with her being early but I think you actually get used to being tired

Someone (sorry can't remember who) was talking about bottle and bf together and nipple confusion. Well all the times I have bf I have done so exclusively even when it was very difficult - I am stubborn As Abbie was early and lost a good bit of weight the mw advised topping her up with ebm through a syringe. This was tough as I was bf then trying to express only to bf 1 hour later - so I gave her formula to top up. Giving her the milk in a syringe became difficult as they tended to spurt the milk too quickly at times. So I gave her a bottle to top up( Tommee Tippee - closer to nature) and it was great!!

I bf her all day and then top up after bf at night to get a bit longer sleep - it's working - she is putting on weight and no nipple confusion

sorry for huge post - hope you will all come over and join me!!!!!

Hi Ladies ..haven't managed to catch up with all the messages - how do you find the time??
Libra75 - no not following a routine - I just find it so hard to remember the feeds - when others write that their LO fed at 9am, 1pm etc I think 'how can they remember!' ..think my brain is addled - sign of a misspent youth?

Just had to tell you all about my appointment with the lactation consultant/breastfeeding counsellor (not sure of her title). We went because mw had noticed stn had a little tongue tie and thought it might be causing the bf problems and the colic/wind.

Well she had a good look and said it was a very small and flexible tie and she didn't think it was the cause of the probs. Then she wanted to see him latch on and feed.

She noticed that my milk came out really quickly and also that his neck wasn't flexed enough as I wasn't holding him quite right ...so he was getting too much milk too quickly and swallowing lots of air ..she compared it to trying to drink a can of coke with your chin on your chest! - no wonder he was only feeding for short while and screaming at the breast ...and no wonder he had so much wind poor fella.
Bear in mind that this is the 3rd baby I've breastfed so I should know the score by now.

Anyway to cut a long story short ...I've been using the better positioning since then (weds a.m) and we've had NO COLIC !! Not a dickie bird. Just a contented, happy baby. It's a revelation ..previously we've had hours and hours of screaming in the evenings and not much difference with colief/infacol/cutting out dairy. Now I think we've cracked it! ...A bit scared of tempting fate by saying that but just wanted to tell you all that if your bf and your baby has colic to get the positioning/latch checked. I feel a bit evangelical

I hope it lasts

Poledra · 14/08/2008 22:58

Fantastic, Aggie! Bf counsellors are wonderful people - it took a bf counsellor to sort out my problems feeding dd1 (and at least 2 mws had told me the latch was fine and to just persevere).
Good night!

kentDee · 14/08/2008 23:03

Hello. On Aug 12 at 10.32 baby Jessica was born weighing 9lbs 9oz. She was 2 weeks overdue and I was induced sunday night in hospital and she was born on the wed. It was a 8 hour labour but she got stuck and ended up in theatre being delievered with forceps. She is fine and Im so glad to be home from hospital to enjoy her.

isaidno · 14/08/2008 23:08

Hello kentdee!

Libra1975 · 15/08/2008 09:12

congratulations kentdee and great name

Aggie - I cant really remember the times either. Sometimes I wake up and cant remeber putting A back in his basket! Great news about the b/f counsellor and no more colic.

Tonight we are giving A is first bottle (EBM) really hope he finds it easy to switch between breast/bottle, he hates dummies so not sure how he`will like the bottle teat.

bebejones · 15/08/2008 09:56

Wow...I finally made it onto post natal thread! Thought this day would never come!!!
Just going to upload some pics and then off to have breakfast while little miss is sleeping!! Haven't had a chance to catch up, so hope everyone is doing ok!!

AggiePanther · 15/08/2008 10:07

Congrats kentdee

Poledra - yes, both mw and hv had said the latch was fine - the mw said 'well there's obviously nothing wrong with your technique' cos he'd gained weight. But he was bound to put on weight with all that milk he was having to gulp ...he was just gulping loads of air too.

Good luck with the bottle L75 ... he should hopefully like it better than a dummy cos there's milk in it I remember dd2 giving me a really confused look when she first had a bottle ...but she soon realised there was yummy milk to be had and got the hang of it.

EEC · 15/08/2008 10:24

Hooray - welcome back bebejones. We havebeen wondering where you were! Congrats, and to Kentdee too!

JODIEhadababy · 15/08/2008 11:36

Congrats Bebe and Kentdee.

Hope everyone is well, must go Sam is waking, and just before I want a shower too, they have this impeccable sense of timing don't they!

disneystar · 15/08/2008 12:01

hi bebe welcome back and big congrats

sam was weighed today and is now 9lb 2oz so becoming quite the little piggy hes averaging nearly 1lb a week

sam went from 10 pm settled at 11pm woke up at 5am first time ever

typical my dh was home so he never had to do his night feed

MINNIE1 · 15/08/2008 12:59

Jodie
Leah always does that wakes b4 i go to the shower!! Lucky you havin a night off enjoy every second of it.. Think if i had a sniff of a drink i would be on my ear!

Minkus
Leah too has a stuffed nose, this weather is so dangerous for little babies! I am using saline drops to keep her nose clear..

SK
Hope your feeling brighter today. I too snap at DD1 and 2 hate myself for it. But i made up with DD1 today by doing some painting (major mess and stress) but worth it to see a smile on her face. Just remember how much you are doing and give yourself a big clap on the back every now and again.

Any one thinking of contraceptive?? I have the pill just dont know if i should start taking it now or wait for period.. Just want to be on the safe side b4 DP and I even think of any funny business.. Plus i really could not cope if i got pregnant again..

JODIEhadababy · 15/08/2008 13:09

Minnie1 - I was told last time that start the first 'pill' on the first day of your period. and then it works after a week, but not to take if BF... I tried 'relations' this week, it hurt so had to stop and I didn't have stitches or anything! (sorry if TMI) I have bought some good old fashioned Durex!

Libra1975 · 15/08/2008 13:17

lol at LOs waking up in time for shower. Alex has 3 radars which have him bawling in seconds:

  1. Mummy is about to sit down and have her supper
  2. Despite being deeply asleep on Mummys chest for the last 15 minutes she has now stood up and is making her way to the moses basket (one eye half opens on the first stair by the top of the stairs both eyes wide open and bottom lip quivering)
  3. Mummy needs to go to the toilet.

Jodie - happy birthday. I don't think anything is TMI on this thread!! I would like to try relations again but still bleeding (yuck) and bed smelling of baby sick doesn't make for the most romantic of atmospheres!

Minnie1 - If you are going to use pill again I would use both pill and condoms to be safe until you had finished your first month of pill, but then I tend to get a bit OTT about contraception when I don't want to get pregnant!!!

Minkus/Minnie1 - hope your LOs feel better soon.

Libra1975 · 15/08/2008 13:18

Saying that I have finally got A to sleep in his vibrating chair rather than my arms and here I am wasting time on mumsnet rather than getting showered and into some clean clothes!!!

pigleychez · 15/08/2008 13:24

Congratulations KentDee

Bebe- You got here at last!!

Jodie- Happy Birthday! Enjoy your night of
Also know exactly what you mean about timing...Abigail will be asleep but as soon as I go to do something she will wake!

Having a lazy day today... just pottering about doing to odd bit of washing and stuff. Been a busy week so a very welcome peaceful day.

isaidno · 15/08/2008 13:37

Bebe - gorgeous pics - welcome to the post natal thread at last!

Today is my 10th wedding anniversary, so I am the surprised recipient of some lovely diamond earrings! Tonight it's champagne and chinese takeaway, followed by wii fit (we managed to get one today) and some sort of sexual manoevres if the champagne hasn't made me too pissed.

Libra1975 - Poppy has similar timing to Alex - I always seem to eat my dinner while feeding her and she spends about 8 hours a day in the sling!

MINNIE1 · 15/08/2008 14:02

isaidno
Happy 10th anniversary hope you both have a lovely evening....
Libra
Think i may do that, as for relations afraid of that too!!

RUMPEL · 15/08/2008 15:24

Hi All,

Congrats KENTDEE Lovely pics BEBE - I am asd I have none of Calvin just born or indeed until we got home. I was out of it and Dh kept going off with the camera . Luckily my parents took 1 of DD when she was brand new or we'd have none of her either.

Also very very at all you skinny folk!! I have 3 stone to lose - really cannot stand the sight of me just now so wobbly and lardy bleurgh!! Had to buy a cheap pair of jeasn the other day just so I have something to fit me jsut now!

Still having a horrid time with Calvin - up every 1.5 hours the other night - crying form 8am to 11am, up every 2 hours last night Was freaking out yesterday so DH has taken today off and taken DD away to his parents for the day to give me some peace. Feeling though as I miss my DD - like you SWEETKITTY - I feel like I am irritable and not being a good Mummy to her as my attention is diverted to Calvin and I am so knackered.

I am taking her to a dance school open day next week - she adores dancing - we dance around together - so I am sure she will love it. I used to pole dance and belly dance and tap dance. Just got a new Tribal belly dancing DVD yesterday so I am going to start practising again and start back at classes when Calvin settles a wee bit.

DISNEY - how are things with your DH now? And all your DS's health doing?

JODIE - is your wee man free of the pox?

KAZ - how you getting on re house moving?

HUBARB - it is Stobhill our psych friend works in. How is your wife doing? Did she like her wee trinket?

Calvin is very spotty too - his cheeks are pretty bad what with chickenpox and milk spots now too. He has a very fiery temper to match his hair!! Although he has started gurgling and making wee spontaneous noises now and looking at me, which is nice. The gripe water seems to be helping a lot tahnk goodness.

Anway am off to relax in front of the TV - might actually get to watch something in peace foa change!!

Take care allxxxx

RUMPEL · 15/08/2008 15:25

JODIE - Happy Birthday to you Party next year? I had a glitter party (I really wanted a bad taste one but no-one would dress up for it )

sweetkitty · 15/08/2008 16:11

bebe - lovely pics

rumpel - I think I am beyond knackered now, B is also spotty just baby acne no chicken pox

isaidno - happy anniversary we got a Wii Fit a few weeks ago I haven't had a go yet just weigh myself now and again

libra - what is it about the fall fast asleep whilst feeding and the MINUTE you even think moses basket they are up although B usually has an afternoon nap in her moses basket yesterday I had a mad thought and changed DD1's room around hoovered and tidied it all and threw out 2 bin bags of old/broken/cheap plastic tat toys, should have taken a pic because it stayed tidy for all of 3 minutes. Oh B had her first bottle a few days ago took about 3ozs from it too.

Jodie - happy birthday mine's next week (fellow Leo's) we will use good old condoms when we finally get around to it.

hello to everyone else I missed it's hard enough to read all the posts nevermind reply to them right now.

Horrible night here too B seemed to be up every 2 hours then DD2 had me up at 6am I am utterly beyond tired at least it's the weekend = DP time. And to top it all off our Sky TV is broke so cbeebies also known as afternoon sanity saver is broken, they are currently watching a DVD and I'm about to sort some washing whilst B sleeps. Had a friend visit today with her little boy who is 9 months and crawling I remember holding him as a newborn 5 minutes ago.

purplejennyrose · 15/08/2008 18:49

Lovely pics bebe!

EEC · 15/08/2008 18:51

Relations not even considered. Absolutely no way want to be pg again - don't know what we will do.

Jodie - Happy Bday. Isaidno - Happy anniversary.

Went for 2 walks today in attempt to get a little fitter, but have made up for it with a scone and 2 packets of hula hoops! I don't even have the pregnancy craving excuse anymore!

TJuice · 15/08/2008 19:35

hi ladies

tonight is first night without swaddle, so i have been up and down, settling ms. elodie. she seems to be okay now though.

the HV is concerned with her flat head at the back so i have to go to the physio to get some special safety pillows so she can sleep on her side. i think that may help her sleeping too because she loves sleeping on her tummy or side (daytime naps on side with rolled-up towels to prop).

my milk supply has really evened up - to the point where its hard to express enough for my dp to do the dreamfeed. very annoying but i am going to try GF's six day "increase your supply plan".

generally though - couldn't wish for a better lickle baby - she is so chilled out for the most part and never cries unless there's a reason. I'm out and about most days and she eats and sleeps wherever and is so cool as long as she is propped up and can see what's going on. I bought a little pillow for the purpose but my hv told me that they can only be propped or in chairs for 20mins at a time. Anyone else heard this??

We had "relations" after 5 weeks but i bled a lot which put me off. We haven't slept in the same bed since the two weeks after she was born. Its great in that, since we do "shifts" in the same room as her, the other person gets a nice stretch of sleep but I don't think its great in terms of your relationship! Then again, having a few hours uninterrupted sleep means that we don't savage each other!
