July 2008 - Now our babies are arriving let's have a thread to talk about them...

Hi ladies
I know there are many of us still to pop but thought it would be nice to start a thread that we can come to once the LO's are here

Abbie is 4 weeks and 3 days old today and my due date isn't here yet

Abbie is doing great - eating and sleeping and very content. The feeding was hard going at first as it is very frequent with her being early but I think you actually get used to being tired

Someone (sorry can't remember who) was talking about bottle and bf together and nipple confusion. Well all the times I have bf I have done so exclusively even when it was very difficult - I am stubborn As Abbie was early and lost a good bit of weight the mw advised topping her up with ebm through a syringe. This was tough as I was bf then trying to express only to bf 1 hour later - so I gave her formula to top up. Giving her the milk in a syringe became difficult as they tended to spurt the milk too quickly at times. So I gave her a bottle to top up( Tommee Tippee - closer to nature) and it was great!!

I bf her all day and then top up after bf at night to get a bit longer sleep - it's working - she is putting on weight and no nipple confusion

sorry for huge post - hope you will all come over and join me!!!!!

Hello all.

Agree with others Disney. You are not unreasonable at all to want DH to play a bigger part in your family life. He must be able to see how hard it is for you coping without him most of the time.

Rory is another windy colicy baby. We have huge tummy rumblings which stop him sleeping. He occasionally goes for a 3 hour stretch in the night, but mostly every 2 hours or less. It really is exhausting. He's so variable - but I suppose it is only natural at 2 1/2 weeks. Feeling quite low and weepy now fairly regularly. Hope it doesn't get worse.

isaidno · 13/08/2008 19:35

Poppy's grumpy grizzly evenings have stopped since I started putting her in the close sling as soon as they start. She finds it so comforting and is much happier.

disneystar · 13/08/2008 19:57

awww eec i hope you feel better soon

thanks all of you i didnt think i was being selfish but really needed your opinion too its easy for me to get caught up in all this goings on with my family and making a wrong judgement

sam asleep now so going to load dishwasher do some bottles put a load of washing in saves me time in the morning
then have a cup of tea and bed and usually sam awake by then so cuddles in bed

eec sam has huge tummy rumblings as well thats stops him sleeping to hes in his pram right now fav position nearly upright on a huge pillow wedged in he sleeps instantly then i woudnt use it at night though he has to be flat on back then

RUMPEL · 13/08/2008 20:20

Hi all,
HUBARB - we have a psych nurse friend at Rottenrow area. I started using gripe water yesterday - think it may be helping. You can get homeopathic granules from pharmacy too - coccl - something or other

DISNEY - I understand where you are coming from but:
Will your DH be able to change jobs? Will he still make enough to support you all? Maybe he feels his job is to provide for you all and feels he is doing the best he can? Men hate change - will he do this for you or forever cast it up? Can your DD help you at all or your grown up kids? I know how you feel with regards to not having friends etc - we don't either yet (project for this year)and it can be lonely and frustrating and tiring. Do you quailfy for respte care at all? Just trying to see both sides - xxx

DD at nurser today and day flew in - but good to only have Calvin to attend to. Went to Tesco - he cried and screamed all the way around peopke were staring and giving me the 'bad Mummy' look. Ended up having to take him out the car seat and carry him and push trolley 1 handed - was so bad that people were falling over themselves to help me empty trolley, get through cherckout and pack lovely people. He has been really alert today so fingers x he might actually sleep for more than 2 hours in a row tonight.

I am worried about TWINKLE - she hasn' tposted for ages - hope she is okay and LAZYHIPPO. You do worry about folk when they haven't posted for q while. Wonder how BEBE is?

CRABBIT - mardy, short-tempered, irritable.

How are everyone stretch marks, pigmentation doing now? I thought I had escaped the stretch marks but I had a few lurking under my giant bump.

managed a few more exercises today though.

Taker care allxxx

sweetkitty · 13/08/2008 22:05

I went for a lovely walk around the shops today with just B. This mad weather meant we started off B under rain hood all snug in her cocoon and me pushing her one handed under brolly then by the time we had finished our walk rain hood off and jacket off as it's so warm. Bizarre weather lovely sunshine but with torrential down pours inbetween.

Rumpel - you are going to hit me but I'm back in my size 8 jeans, back to prepreg weight it's the 3 under 5 diet, don't sit down ever. Have very wrinkly belly skin though but tops cover it thankfully, still have linea nigra too.

EEC - I have been quite weepy and down too ad very irritable and short tempered with the other two. Keep thinking they are missing out and I'm a bad mum as if DD1 was an only child I would be doing so more with her could take her more places spend more time with her one on one, take her swimming etc same with DD2 but because theres the 3 of them it limits us a lot and I don't like driving far either which further limits us

Oh and another thing if ONE MORE person asks me if I'm going to keep going until I get a boy I will scream!

isaidno · 13/08/2008 22:11

I'm back in my jeans too - although the size 8 ones are wearable but snug! I need to lose about 5 more lbs to be back to pre preg weight, which is quite impressive as I am struggling to kick my pregnancy biscuit habit. Still have very noticeable linea nigra and my belly button is still rather wide - I think my tummy muscles have not quite knitted back yet. It's fairly flat though considering Poppy was number 3.

ponto · 13/08/2008 23:00

Oh sweetkitty, I wish the 3 under 5 diet worked for me! (Although strictly speaking I am on the 3 under 6 one). I put on nearly 4 stone while pregnant and was already half a stone overweight. The first 2 stone have gone already but that still means 2.5 stone to go and I am so hungry all the time because of the bfing, I don't know how I will ever lose it. Doesn't help that I have been on holiday at my mum's this week and taking the children out on trips to various softplay places where I sit and eat cake all day! Anyway, I'm just going to enjoy eating my way through the rest of the summer and will start a diet in September.

I can recommend the Woodward's gripe water, Bryony has been so much better in the evenings since I started giving her some. I prefer it to Infacol as I can give it after a feed if she seems unsettled, rather than having to try to remember to give it beforehand.

First proper smile today She did it when waking up from a nap and I went and looked at her, she just looked really pleased to see me with a big grin on her face. Nearly made me cry!

disneystar · 14/08/2008 08:28

awww ponto first smiles samuel is 6 wks next week i cant wait for him to start little smiles
havnt these babies changed in the short weeks they have been born
sam is so fat in the cheeks huge eyes and loads wrinkles on the legs now eyes wide open looking at his toys on the baby gym

was good last night bed at 10.30 after 6 oz
woke at 3 back to bed by 3.15 was a record that
he is still in bed as he woke up at 6am had a burp and a poo and went back to sleep
uh oh hes awake gotta go !!!!

JODIEhadababy · 14/08/2008 09:17

Morning. Am so of you all at your pre-pregnancy weights already, I'm nearly 2 stone over, and like PONTO, I am constantly hungry, keep picking all day, good job I am BF as I dread to think where it would all go otherwise! I've set my self a target of being back to my normal weight by the time we go skiing for new year..

Sam had a good night too last night, woke him for his bottle at 11.15 and I didn't hear anything from him until 4.. Then he slept until 8, which was fab as it gave me time to get DS1 ready and drop him ff at nursery before Sam needed feeding!

He was weighed again yesterday and has put on another 10oz, so now at 8lb 15oz!

I'm with you Disney Sam is 6weeks tomorrow (MY BIRTHDAY!!!!) And I can't wait for that first smile!

pigleychez · 14/08/2008 09:36

Morning all,

Busy week here. Out and about visiting friends.(dodging the showers!)

Abigail is 3 weeks today - wheres the time gone!

re weight- I was back to pre-pregnancy weight when Abigail was 2 weeks and into my normal clohes. Tummy needs abit of toning as i too have the wrinkles and the linea nigra. Im actually now a few llbs less than i did pre-pregnancy

Abigail is being a star with her sleeping.. past 3 nights has gone 5 hours! feeds around 11/12pm then around 4/5am them again around 8/9 so getting lots of sleep with only one "night" feed.

thankfully Abigail hasnt really had much colic yet apart from the odd few evenings of grumps which were thankfully quite short lived.

Off to DH's office today to show Abigail off to his colleagues so best get her little dress on her

Libra1975 · 14/08/2008 10:22

morning all. i know this is going to jinx it but A has had FOUR really good nights (it also helps that I dont have to wake up for other LOs). I am starting to enjoy him much more.

Weight. grr. was looking at photos from 2 years ago and I was so slim, thing is I struggle with my body image and have always thought I was fat, but looking back now....
I dont think I have as much to lose as I thought as DH keeps telling me our scales are 9-10lbs out, if thats true I only have about 9-10lbs to lose to pre-pregnancy weight BUT that is a stone over my fighting weight! As soon as I can start exercising properly again then I will start doing something about the weight, until then. Meh.

According to both Grannies A is already smiling (he is 4 weeks) and nothing will persuade them it's only wind!

EEC - hugs it will get better as he gets older.

Disneystar - you are not being selfish wanting more help with the children, but Rumpel has made some good points. Is there any chance you can just sit down the 2 of you (could your oldest daughter look after the children for just an hour?) and talk this thru rather than let it fester?

Rumpel - twinkle had twins didn't she? I post whilst breastfeeding and thus have 1 hand free, she probably doesn't have this luxury(!). However Twinkle if you are out there hope things are going well for you.

MINNIE1 · 14/08/2008 11:28

Hi ladies,
God so much happens here! It feels like i had DD3 4 months ago and not 4 weeks! She is doing well and night are going ok. Its trying to get all 3 babies dressed and fed in the morning is the hardest. DD2 is now going to creche P/T and its great but hassel trying to get up and out in the mornings.

RE: weight mine is ok back in old cloths still one pair of jeans that i have to get back into. Agree with SK on the 3 under 5 diet or for me its the 3 under 3..

Disney
With you on the night feeds!!! have done everyone since L was born! Not easy. DP is on tablets whick knock him out at night. Very helpful!! But all this will be over soon and you will look back and think how the hell did i do it..

min912 · 14/08/2008 11:30

I have just under 3 stone to lose to get back to pre-preg weight, I have lost 9lb in the two weeks since Poppy was born which I think is quite good (especially if you take into account how big my boobs are!! effectively a few more pounds lost I reckon) but it's a depressingly long way to go. My own fault for troughing whilst pg I guess!

I am quite teary at the moment, I got very upset yesterday as DS refused to play with me and would only play with his dad. He is 21mths and I know it's understandable in the circumstances (bfeeding has meant me spending the majority of time looking after Poppy and DH looking after DS) but it just felt so horrible.

Sweetkitty I am getting fed up with the reverse - I have lost count of the number of people who say something like 'Well done, one of each' or 'Aren't you clever to have one of each' - they're not a bloomin salt-and-pepper set or anything. It's like they are implying we would have been disappointed with two boys which call me hypersensitive (oh, ok, I am right now) is a bit insulting.

EEC · 14/08/2008 11:51

Don't know how much I weigh, but noty back in pre preg clothes yet. Not far off though, but I expect the last half a stone will be really tough to shift. Not too stressed about it though - number 3 and I'm not so young any more either! It all seems to be on my tummy and I can't really tackle that til after 6 week check up. Still got really strong linea nigra (when does this go? can't remember) Also have 5 new enormous strtch marks - hey ho... Nothing to be done about them!

Rory is 2 1/2 weeks old and really really spotty now - thought they might be gone after 10 days of them, but they are getting worse and worse! Any one have any ideas about how long they might last. HV said 3 - 4 weeks!

mummy2bsoon · 14/08/2008 11:55

i was told by midwife is u use foruml milk, u have to give the bottle within 30mins of makin it, due to sum bacteria. 4t id mention it may apply to sum of u.

pre preg weight- got along waaaaay to go, im still in my maternity clothes....

i feel horrible and fat, doesnt help every1 sayin u use to b so nice and slim..except dh- he is so sweet.

i had a semi good night lastnight woohooo

JODIEhadababy · 14/08/2008 12:00

EEC - Sam still has spots, he's 6 weeks tomorrow.. HV told me to use Aqueous Cream, seems to be working, they are drying up now

MINNIE1 · 14/08/2008 12:03

EEc
DD is the same all the spots went and now there all back! With DD its milk spots..

She is slowly waking for her feed....

Poledra · 14/08/2008 16:00

No idea how much I weigh, but haven't actually dared try the pre-pregnancy clothes. I have a stack of stuff in the cupboard (mainly work suits) which I have said will go to the charity shop if I cannot fit back into them within a year of Orlaith's birth. They're going to hvae to go I reckon as I haven;t got back into them since dd1's birth. I just cannot get rid of my tummy and have to admit that I hate gyms and exercising, so haven't tried that much. I used to horse ride, which is great for toning your stomach, but I just haven't has the time since the children came along.
Still have a very strong linea nigra and hate it - my belly button looks mucky! Cannot remember how long it takes to go, but it must do as I have had it with all 3 pgs and it's always disappeared at some point.
No-one has suggested to me that I might try again for a boy - I've had one friend tell me how lucky I am as she was desperate to have 2 girls and ended up with a girl and a boy.

EEC · 14/08/2008 16:28

good description of belly button Poledra - mine is mucky too!

pigleychez · 14/08/2008 17:09

Well I took Abigail into DH's work and she was a star. Woke for everyone to have their cuddles. They had decided to go to the pub for lunch and invited me along. Abigail slept the whole time at the pub and DH, I and his colleagues had a nice lunch.
Came home and Abigail and I have just woken up from an hour and half's sleep on the sofa. Bliss

Was very shocked at the receptionist of the office block DH works in. She cooed over Abigail before asking Is it a girl or boy?
I wouldnt mind but Abigail was wearing a pink dress with flowers on it!

Minkus · 14/08/2008 17:57

Aw pigley some folks are so silly!

Well the bottle of ebm trick = 7 hrs sleep trick didn't work last night- although he did go from 11 (3.5oz dream feed) until 3 so could have been worse.

For those of you also using bottles how much do your lo's take at this time of day? Not sure if the 3.5oz I gave was enough. He drank all of it happily enough, wonder whether I should have given more?

sweetkitty · 14/08/2008 19:47

B did about 9ish to 11pm when I gave her a dreamfeed then woke at 1ish unsettled but then went through until 6.30am this morning. Not too bad she's just fallen asleep in her swing as it's nearly bed time for the older 2.

She got weighed today and is 10lbs 1oz.

Feeling a bit low today feel all I have done is snap at DD1 and 2.

DonutMum · 14/08/2008 20:29

min912, lol, salt and pepper set. I'm going to start getting annoyed when the next person asks if I'll be going for a fourth to get a girl. Grr.

Logan had a good day. Been packing for Bahrain and have just snuck on here to get away from DS1 and DS2 playing up at bedtime. Will shortly be going up to shout at them (not really - we are doing oxytocin fuelled peace and calm at the mo..). BF going well - desperate to keep it up so i can bf on the flight - think they'll confiscate all my baby bottle feeding gear at Heathrow.

Right, better go shout and then cook dinner. Oh, and Sky+ Gok so will be glued to telly soon.

ttfn

purplejennyrose · 14/08/2008 21:27

hi all just popping in quickly as really tired! good to read everyone's news though..
donut mum, there was a thread on here recently re the safety checks at airports and baby formula /ebm and bottles - some airports ok others sounded ridiculous! bf seems by far the easiest option..
we have another spotty babe here - she's looked like a teenager for a while now, just keeps getting more! think they go after 6 weeks or so?
i only have 1 pair of trousers that fit at mo - tried to get into jeans and ended up catching my scar on the zip - owww! it's now got a scabby raw bit (sorry much TMI!!)
so had to go the cheap factory shop and grab some linen-mix drawstrings - they're quite nice actually, make a change from jogging bottoms.
3 under 5 - how do you do it sk and co - 2 is enough for me! quite literally - i have freecyled my maternity clothes!!

Poledra · 14/08/2008 22:10

Feeling quite cheated here - I have 3 under 5 but the weight is most definitely not falling off me like SK!
