isabellasmam - i'm with you don't do it!!!
i'm an ex-teacher. way too much stress.
tho i taught maths, BIG mistake!

Isabellasmam · 05/08/2008 21:04

housemum, kelix, gingeme, madmouse, LS - also very cute babas.

sorry if i have missed anyone out.

Isabellasmam · 05/08/2008 21:05

JKS - there does seem to be a lot of us on here. i agree, v stressful but I only qualified three years ago, give me till xmas before i decide to give it up .

justkeepswimming · 05/08/2008 21:07

well lily - normally for 6 months minimum - fancy a 6 month break, lol?!

meant to say the other night at in-laws the monitor wasn't working properly but we went to bed anyway (turns out the cable on one was loose), anyway, both boys woke at 5.30 so i was pleased cos i thought ds2 had basically slept through.
then mil comes in,
'oh poor you up with henry in the night'
'no' i said, 'he slept through' [smug]
'no, he was crying for ages at 3am, i thought you were with him!'

anyway he must have cried himself back to sleep until 5.30 poor love.

simpson · 05/08/2008 21:08

Isabellasmam - If I give her milk first she has approx 2 ozs then spits out teat and doing noise like creaking door which basically means feed me but not milk/poison!! I woke her at 7pm and she had another 4ozs.

She does eat yogurts but have not given her cheese yet. Lunchtime today was ridiculous I thought she would be sick!! She refused bottle totally and ate half a hipp organic jar left over from yesterday, 6 cubes of veg, a yogurt, a piece of pasta BLW style and wanted more!!

Oh well I guess if she doesn't wake in the night she can't be that hungry. Am going to RL friends house tomorrow and her LO is 9mths and has opposite problem won't give up milk at all, so we will have a moan/natter together Her Ds and my DS go to playgroup together lets hope he doesn't wee on her sofa

Isabellasmam · 05/08/2008 21:12

got dd weighed today and another girl from my antenatal class was there asking hv about milk consumption as her dd wasn't taking v much, they basically said that as long as she was gaining weight and content then not to worry.

a friend of mine has a dd of 3 but when she started weaning she refused milk altogether. shes competely fine and healthy.

simpson · 05/08/2008 21:23

I guess its true she is not likely to starve herself is she?!!

I put her in her tchibo highchair today for the first time in ages as she didn't seem strong enough to sit in it before and she was fine in it. Seeing her in it makes me realize how much she has grown in the last fortnight. She loved being the same height as us bless her

JKS - I have to confess that has happened here too For some reason I can't remember we had batteries in monitor not plugged it in and they had run out. I was downstairs on sofa as DH had an early shift, DH said in morning god wasn't DD bad??!! I hadn't heard a thing!!!

madmouse · 05/08/2008 21:29

Rockdoctor I think most Church of England churches will do it on request. In our church we do it as a matter of policy: Every family can have a thanksgiving for their baby, but if they want baptism we specify a period of church attendance and 3 evenings of baptism preparation. We find that many families feel that a thanksgiving is sufficient for them and it cuts down on people standing at the font promising to bring their child up to believe in Jesus with no intention to do so. It simply avoids people beig pushed into a straightjacket just because they want to mark the special occassion of a child's arrival.

I do not know about Catholic and other churches (Lilyloo?) but just go to a family service usually somewhere between 10 and 11) at your local C of E and ask.

Sorry, I am very churchy, dh was ordained in June, so i am now a clergy wife .

lilyloo · 05/08/2008 21:29

Simpson maybe shse really doesn't want milk then ? Would just keep offering but she seems to be filling up anyway. Try soft cream cheese on toast dd loves it!!!

JKS you dark horse you kept that secret!!! 6 mths would love it however finances and all that was thinking more of a weekend

IM thanks !! i have been looking after a class of the unruliest needing extra support y7 for the last 7 years! I fancy doing infant i think. I have done nursery through to year 11 so have pretty good idea. I think this new advance TA support is a really good idea however might as well get paid to do it!!
How did you end up a teacher ? I worked as support assistant in special behavioural unit so the errant challenging behaviour doesn't really phase me however the paperwork is a different matter

Rockdoctor i am catholic. We had to attend a baptismal preperation one Sunday evening for an hour.
Although they are keen you attend church regularly.
I am trying but ds football training means me and dp share the responsibility.

simpson · 05/08/2008 21:36

Lilyloo - I genuinely think she does not like milk. Am going to try her with cream cheese tomorrow eve as DS loves it, cheers for that tip

Had an Indian takeaway in the end and now feel most full/fat!!

This is the first night DS has not wanted to take his scooter up to bed with him. He has had it 2 weeks!!

lilyloo · 05/08/2008 21:43

Simpson ds the same. He will now only have it on cereal.
dd1 loved it and will drink cups of the stuff.
Would just give her extra dairy stuff to compensate!!

Isabellasmam · 05/08/2008 21:49

lilyoo - you have way more experience than me, i may start asking you questions. especially of your good with unruly pupils. i left university and did my pgce straight away. basically didnt know what to do except that it had to relate to biology so did some work experience in a friends school and loved it. v stressful job but very rewarding (pass the sick bucket) but true.

nicky6 · 05/08/2008 22:34

been at work this afternoon - actually been nice to think of something else and clear my head a bit after little disagreement with dh last week. ANd he had really good afternoon with her and she was in bed asleep when i got in and dinner was cooked, lovely.

I am hoping therefore that although i was dreading going back to work missing charlie etc i hope that maybe can have best of both worlds??

charlie likes cream cheese on toast, actually been having the philadelpha with basil. Do worry that as charlie cuts milk am i giving her enough vitamins etc in her food. she is pretty good though and the fruit purees and yoghurts she guzzles down. chicken with vegetables etc takes a little longer.

my mum coming up tomorrow and staying over.
My sister primar school teacher - very hard work but loves it very rewarding - she just wishes she earnt a bit more money.

simpson · 05/08/2008 22:42

Nicky6 - I went back to work when Ds was 11mths old was dreading it but it was fine. DS was at a nursery near the office and he loved it Is DH having Charlie when you work? I do wish that i could go back for a couple of days a week maybe but can't really afford childcare for 2

Luckysalam - Have you heard from the other doggy place?

MrsMcJnr · 05/08/2008 23:04

Hey ladies DS not drinking milk today he?s had the sum total of one boob at breakfast and one bottle. He is teething I know but it is worrying!
Housemum ? sounds perfect on the boat! oh no, you must have been mortified when you saw the buggy in the water I still leak milk even though I only bf a couple of times a day now, I guess the heat exacerbates the smell.
Bluebell82 ? Ruby has such a varied diet; we are still on purees lovely pics
Simpson ? I am with you on the whole balance of food and milk thing, its hard isn?t it? My DS has done 5 poos today!
Rockdoctor ? I?m in the same place as you re bf, going to pack away a few nursing bras and treat myself to a few nice supportive ones. I should really start having a siesta shouldn?t i?!
Gingeme ? can?t help on the growth spurt but wish my DS would drink milk like that!
Hello and welcome Isabellasmum I arrived on this thread when I was 5 weeks pregnant back in May last year but I took a sabbatical when DS was born of 6 months but I did move from Scotland to Spain in that time what a lovely little girl you have
Luckysalem ? how you found some time to relax. Wow, your DD can do lots of thinks mine can?t. Sorry to hear about the dog, must be disappointing
Madmouse ? sounds like you are making great progress with Nathan, he is adorable too What sort of things are you doing in baptism preparation? I keep trying unsuccessfully to speak to the priest about a date. Must be the heat but DH seems very keen on me hope it survives the challenge of conceiving number 2!
Ahh Filly ? sounds like fun, hope you had a ball!
Justkeepswimming ? hey there
Hello Betterhalf
Hey Kelix your photos are so cute!
LaTrucha ? we are on Mijas Costa, Malaga province Xavier seems fine now after his fall thanks hon.
Glad to hear the Christening went so well Lilyloo

Nicky6 ? good for you thinking about work, I still can?t get my head around it!

gingeme · 05/08/2008 23:13

Just a quick note I have realised now why George drinks so much milk. Its because hes lazy! Drinking milk is alot easier and quicker to fill your belly than faffing about with anything remotely solid
Did have fun at dinner tonight though. I made pasta bolognese and George was sitting next to me and as I was watching ds4 taking pasta from ds2's plate he was happily taking pasta from my plate . He dropped most of it but did try a couple of bits which made him gag but he had a good try. Little monkey
Off to bed now got a long Journey to Bedford tomm with the big boys.
Sleep well. Night night xxxx

simpson · 06/08/2008 09:20

Morning all!!

Am hoping the weather is going to be good today. Going to friends house and her DS has one of those large trampolines in the back garden. Lets hope DS doesn't poo on it!!

DD in good spirits this morning, screeching at the top of her voice in her bouncey chair

Gingeme - hope journey is ok today.

Hi to everyone else.

barristermum · 06/08/2008 09:26

Hi guys!

Mrs McJnr - Wahey!!!!!!! SO good to have you back - missed those updates, and so glad all is well with you and Xavier. Hope the move to Spain is everything you hoped it would be - you must be so glad to have sold house as credit crunch bites here - hope money ok now and well done on house sale - that must have happened v suddenly in the end.

Lucky - am gutted for you on dog front - so mean to say yes and then change mind - I would LOVE a dog - we had even found doggie-daycare and I had convinced DH that it was worth the phenomenal sums involved but then I conceived Cerys and we decided to wait and see what happened to my earnings before committing to extra costs. But we bought an estate car just in case.

Gingeme - I would love a meet up but v unpredictable schedule. Might be able to do Aug 20th and 21st as light week - have just heard am going to have my operation on 22nd Aug - which I am very pleased about as they were threatening to defer until mid-sept when we have a holiday planned with my folks to celebrate their 40th anniversary! Btw - can recommend acute pancreatitis and gall stones as weight loss method - have so far dropped 2 stone according to the scales now - just hope it doesn't all go back on!

Nicky - After the initial horror of returning to work and missing Cerys so much it was like a physical pain I have really enjoyed being back. I don't think anything can get you past the first couple of weeks which are awful, but once you and she are used to it it becomes the routine and I am a much better barrister than I am a stay at home mother. Cerys LOVES nursery - her arms start flapping when she sees the carers or babies in her room and when I have gone to pick her up I look thru the door and she is usually completely absorbed in something and clearly utterly contented. Tho' she is absolutely SHATTERED at the end of the day.

JKS - out of curiosity how did Henry sleep the following night - better after he had had a night where he had to cope by himself or no diff, or god forbid, worse?

We had a baptism for cerys which was so lovely - if you are not normally regular members of the congregation but you have a welcoming church I would really recommend going as often as you can before the service as it is so lovely when the congregation actually know the people involved in the ceremony - when they welcome your baby into the Christian family there can be so much warmth if faces are familiar to each side. Btw, who recomended "God Knows all about me"? - I bought it on amazon and LOVE reading it to cerys who giggles as we tickle the bits of her body mentioned or whisper or shout. Many thanks.

Hello to all others not mentioned and bravo on all baby pics - have looked and they are gorgeous.

lilyloo · 06/08/2008 10:54

Morning all eventually uploaded some pics of the dc's

Was trying to find one of me but they don't seem to exist as i love seeing what we all look like.

bluebell82 · 06/08/2008 11:54

morning all- hope everyone is well.. shall we start swapping recipes for lo's?

I'm having a really shit time with mil again. Won't go into it but here is a nlink to the post- the doctor has increased my medication and I am not being visited by a nurse once a week following a consultation. I feel like an emotional wreck- I love my dd so so much and that part of my life is wonderful but the otherside is just destrotying everything, I fear my marriage is going to come crashing down, my dhis so supportive but I feel like if I remove him then I can remove her.

Sorry for the misery- matches the weather though x

bluebell82 · 06/08/2008 12:20

hi simpson forgot to say- Ruby was exactly the same with her milk for about 4 weeks. I was so worried but she wasn't waking i the night so I knew she wasn't starving. She was bf until 4 mnths then I switched to the bottle and I never thought she had the same enjoyment. The problem is Ruby is lazy and she wants her stomach filled with a click of a finger so she gets sick of sucking- my boobies where like water jets!- have changed teat size and seemed to make a difference but she was only taking 16oz at a push which was a nightmare- this week she is eating the same full diet of solids but is taking about 27oz so I think they just go through phases- the way I think about it is sometimes you just don't want breakfast and you're not thirsty and thats the same with babies I think. They are quick to yell at you if they are hungry- although she has just taken 16oz this morning on top of weetabix and bananas the child is a machine but the poo's are now toxic they actually smell like adult poo!

Hope this helps- the key is not to stress I am sure Ruby used to refuse her milk as a game at times!

Isabellasmam · 06/08/2008 12:22

bluebell82 - just read your link, i thought my mil was bad!!!!! can you not move further away from her? i would definately refuse to see her without dh and make big complaint to hospital about letting her into delivery room. i had the opposite issue in that dd was born 2 mins after visiting ended so wasnt seen till the following afternoon.

betterhalf · 06/08/2008 13:05

Bluebell... I am sorry you having such a bad time of it with MIL again.

Lilyloo.... gorgeous pictures.. Aren't our babies growing up so quick.

lilyloo · 06/08/2008 13:13

Have just inadvertantly found a fab toy for dd
a helium balloon she has been playing with it for ages and chewing the weight thing on the end!
Worth a couple of quid
