Just spoke to my mum and she said that the eye teeth are the worst, because the are smaller at the top then get bigger the are pretty painful the whole time they are coming through, whereas other teeth, once they have cut through the gum, they are through.

Would anyone recommend chamomile tea for babies then? Daisy was it you who has given it to DD?

LackaDAISYcal · 20/07/2008 13:09

jammy, at water babies we do Humpty Dumpty from the side of the pool and lift them into the water at "had a great fall". DD now throws herself into the water.

We have the gate now to stop DD getting into the kitchen, but she stands and rattles it and screams.

We have just been out for a new fish tank and a new fish. Our old plastic tank gets really clogged up with algae, so we have a new glass tank, and an algae eater fish called Henry. Why Henry? It is a Hong Kong plecostimus.....so Henry the mild mannered janitor aka Honk Kong Fuey....and I thunk it all up myself

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 20/07/2008 13:28

at Henry the fish.

Someone in our extended family had a fish called George. When he died they had George II, then the III etc. I think they got up to George XIIIth (over many years)

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 20/07/2008 14:57

A lot of the extended family from my Mum's side are meeting up this afternoon for their annual picnic (they got fed up only meeting at funerals so started this a few years ago). I just got a text from my sister telling me they'd arrived which reminded me I'm a but because the first I knew about it was when I spoke to my parents on Friday night, by which time it was a bit late to arrange for me to take the jamlet up there. If I'd known in advance I would have done though, as it'd be nice to introduce her to some of my aunts and uncles and cousins etc.

DH just taken the jamlet to Waitrose, so I get a break for a bit. Phew! She was doing my head in a bit. Will just have a little sit down and then I've got a couple of small jobs to do, which will be easier on my own.

LackaDAISYcal · 20/07/2008 15:25

woohoo I've sold my big pram
trying to sort out collection etc now with the buyer.....and of course payment, as it hasn't come through on paypal yet!

but woohoo

that's £150 closer to a P&T Vibe

sorry about the picnic jammy; you'd think someone would have let you know the details. Because I'm miles away from my family, I often feel a bit "out of sight, out of mind"

been to sainsbos; spent a fortune, but noticed that a lot of the "basics" range were either out of stock or low on stock. I think people are starting to draw in their belts a lot.

now to make spinach and riccotta lasagne for tea...

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 20/07/2008 15:47

Mmmm, that lasagne sounds good. We're having a curry made with potato/cauli/green beans, served with rice and home made roti bread.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 20/07/2008 15:47

And congrats on the pram sale

Sputnik · 20/07/2008 16:45

Just checking in quickly. Haven't caught up with everthing but
Congratulations Natty
You are utterly mad!

Won't be around much as my sis is over for DD's birthday this week. We had her party today, just a family do with a barbecue, an excessive number of cakes and presents from ILs. She'll get her presents from us on the day, I got her a doll's house, I'm really excited!

LackaDAISYcal · 20/07/2008 17:21

hi sputnik...thought you;d been a bit quiet.

Have never made spinach and ricotta lasagne before....we shall see what it tastes like, although the spinach filling bit (from our own garden ) tastes very nice!

I'm such an ebay selling virgin. Have emailed to ask about collection, but no response and they haven't paid for it yet. I thought BIN auctions you had to pay straight away?

LittleMissNorty · 20/07/2008 17:24

Daisy, they'll probably give you cash on collection - better for you as it saves on paypal fees. They'll be in touch.

Hello Sputnik....long time no "see" Happy birthday to DD!

Bumperlicious · 20/07/2008 17:43

Well done daisy.

Sputnik, hope you have a nice time.

Jammy that you are missing your picnic.

Bit of a traumatic day for DD today, she is tired from lack of sleep, crabby from teething and took a bit of a tumble and though I only saw her fall backwards she somehow manged to cut under her chin which was bleeding everywhere. Cue much PFB worrying and ringing my mum asking if I should take her to A&E. Actually we weren't panicking, we just didn't know what to do, obviously if we had a cut that was bleeding we would just stick a plaster on it, but I wasn't sure if you have to be more careful with babies. Anyway my mum suggested it would be a good idea to have a first aid kit so we have been out and bought steri strips, plasters and the like. Anyone got any tips for essential first aid kit items?

She's fine anyway, just having a day when not much is going right and v crabby. Early tea and bed with a dose of calpol for her.

Do any of you give your LOs vitamin drops? We just bought some for DD as I am worried she isn't eating enough veg, and we are trying to restrict her fruit a bit as her nappies are giving her a pretty bad rash.

LackaDAISYcal · 20/07/2008 17:48

ouch, poor DD bumper; is she OK now? It's not too bad is it?

In our first aid kit we have plasters of various types, some bandages of different sizes, some antiseptic cream and wipes, some steristrips, scissors, micro-pore tape and melolin pads, some calpol sachets, some paracetomol, some insect repellant and antihistamine cream. It's one of those little prepaced things that we have added bits to and it comes on holiday with us.

I've also got a little first iad kit in a plastic sleeve with plasters and some alcohol wipes that I keep in my handbag

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 20/07/2008 17:49

Savlon woundwash is a good first aid item in my books, though not sure how it'd be on a LO's skin. But it's great in that you just spray it onto the wound.

Menalin (sp?) and tape for covering wounds, grazes etc. Can cut to size/shape as required.

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 20/07/2008 17:49

melolin - that's the stuff, thanks Daisy

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 20/07/2008 18:14

Sputnik - happy birthday to DD, hope she loves the dolls house. If not you can always plat with it

Bumperlicious · 20/07/2008 18:16

Thanks for the tips, yeah, we got a wound wash thing too. I would like to have a nice natural first aid kit, but too expensive really. Will start building it up.

Daisy that's v organised, I might do that at some point too. She's fine, just a tiny cut really, but quite deep. Not even sure what caused it. She's just spectacularly crabby ATM.

LackaDAISYcal · 20/07/2008 18:20

jammy, I used savlon woundwash on DD at 9 weeks old when she was savaged by my sister's next door neighbour's cat. No after effects.

(Well, not really savaged; cat jumped on my sister's lap, DD was lying sleeping, cat got fright tried to put the brakes on and caught my sister's arm badly, and two great scores across DDs scalp)

Well my lasagne was flipping delicious, and the DCs have refused to eat is . I don't know why I bother tbh.

LackaDAISYcal · 20/07/2008 18:22

oh, and arnica, or as we call it magic, cream for bruises....and some calendula cream for cuts and grazes.

Izzybel · 20/07/2008 18:55

Hi!
Hope everyone has had a nice weekend!
Happy Birthday to Sputnik's DD hope you have a lovely week.

Congratulations again Natty! It's about time you had some good news and something to celebrate
I think I'm going to have to rehome my dog . I'm so upset about it and feel so guilty. Dp has been trying to get me to do it since DD was born but I just haven't been able to let her go.
All the caring for her and looking after is left to me and if I'm honest she just doesn't get as much attention as she deserves . It sounds really pathetic but I just don't have as much time to give her walks because I struggle to walk her with the pushchair, although I try, and soon I'll be working full time during the day and won't be able to take her during the day when I am Childminding. Nights are just too hectic and DP won't have anything to do with her. He won't take her for a walk or give her any attention . I've tried so hard to keep hold of her, but there just seems to be an air of sadness about her iykwim and I feel so selfish in keeping her as I think there's probably a home somewhere that could give her the time that she deserves. She's such a lovely little thing and has quite a calm nature for a Spaniel. I know this probably seems like such a trivial thing and probably sounds so so pathetic. Sorry for the moan I just needed to get it off my chest!

LittleMissNorty · 20/07/2008 19:03

Oh Izzy .....that's very sad but it sounds like you've made the right decision....difficult as it is. Do you have anyone close by that would have her so you can still see her?

Izzybel · 20/07/2008 19:20

I asked my mum but as much as my mum loves her she just doesn't want a dog and she lives in a terraced house in the town centre so not much outdoor space.
I'm going to ask next door if she wants to take her, as she has just separated from her H and he has taken their labrador with him. She kind of made a comment about adopting her when I mentioned it and was saying what wonderful company they make, and how she was going to miss the labrador.
I really don't want her to go to a stranger and never see her again .
My sister has the same breed of dog and visiting her will make me feel awful.

LackaDAISYcal · 20/07/2008 19:22

oh, izzy, that's really sad about your dog . Agree with norty, do none of your friends or family want to take her?

Why won't your DP have anything to do with her?

DD went off to bed without a murmur tonight and she is back to terrorising the cat and having tantrums if she isn't getting her own way. Looks like she is back to normal...yay

LackaDAISYcal · 20/07/2008 19:25

oops, cross post. Might it not be too confusing for her if she is only next door? but could you come to an agreement with your neighbour about the neighbour taking her when you are working? Neighbour gets company of a dog again and you get someone to help with her. win win situation, no?

JammyQueenOfTheSewers · 20/07/2008 19:25

Aw, Izzy. Poor you. But is does sound like the right thing to do. I hope you find a good home, and try not to feel guilty. You would be guilty if you kept a dog you couldn't look after properly.

Thinking of first aid stuff reminded me of when I was little and I was forever getting insect bites from playing in the long grass on our road. They'd really bug me, so Mum would tell me to go put some "itchy bump cream" on from the bathroom shelf. For years I thought my parents had some magic potion until as an adult I realised it was just a tub of Nivea

LittleMissNorty · 20/07/2008 19:28

My aunt used to keep "magic medicine" (bottle of water) in the fridge for all those headaches and tummy-aches that her grandchildren used to get

Glad DD is better Daisy.....my LO is walking properly now....haven't seen her crawl all day....and she walked her walker over the room, and used it to climb on so she could reach something she was after.....oh shit....here we go with bumps and bruises
