thanks sponge, makes sense!

Well despite good intentions I haven't made it out of the house at all. Didn't settle Alexander until 11am and then he slept until 2.30. Didn't want to disturb him my moving him, so after he'd woken I changed and fed him. This all took 2 hours for him to settle, then put him in his pram and he started to howl his lungs out. At that point I also started to bawl my eyes out.

Just feel so useless - surely I should be able to get out of the house? It is the first lovely day in ages and haven't had so much as a breath of fresh air. How do other people manage to get out of the house? I was going to go to a bf support group tomorrow, but I don't know if I'll even manage that

Sorry for the miserable post!

ampster · 21/07/2008 16:42

so allnew, is it normal to leave the house at least once a day even when you have a new baby? there are quite a few days when i don't make it out and i try not to beat myself up about it. i think this might be because i was a freelancer for most of my working life so being at home for long stretches is quite usual for me, but am i being a lazy slummy mummy i wonder?

Amberc · 21/07/2008 17:00

systemsaddict - what a nightmare - annoying DP and cat that won't comply! You poor thing - I hope your day picks up and your DP buys you some flowers and makes you a nice dinner and the cat comes and sits on your lap and purrs for the evening xx

hedgehog1979 · 21/07/2008 17:01

allnew I feel your pain, even if Isaac starts bawling when I put him in the car/pushchair I keep him in there and find that the motion soothes and settles him.

When he was still not settled at 1pm after being awake since 8am I put him in the car and we drove the mile and a half into town (which I would normally walk but am still suffering with the anaemia) which put him to sleep so I got to go and get money from DH and had a cry there, and then some lunch in costa. Did get some strange looks and then realised that I am wearing a pair of DH's boardies and a vest that is dead easy to feed in but displays a lot of ludicrously expensive and massive feeding bra!! Don't think Crawley is ready for that fashion statement yet (although I felt very comfortable!!)

I have been bawling a lot recently as I have a really painful left nipple when feeding/not feeding and when expressing, phoned to make a dr's appointment tomorrow and cannot get one until Thurs pm so am going to speak to the HV tomorrow, and also Thurs pm is the breast feeding cafe in town which I wanted to go to as well. As well as the painful nipple, Isaac seems to want to feed every 90mins to 2.5 hours unless I have taken him out and he is asleep or it is at night. He is also becoming more alert which is great, but he screams as soon as I leave the room, so I can put him on his playmat/blanket on the floor and change the channel to one of the music channels but as soon as he senses I am not in the room he starts to whimper which after about 5 minutes turns into full on wailing and I cannot get anything done. To top it all off DH is moaning about being tired!! He does no night feeds due to the expressing issues, all he does is pokes me in the back if he hears a whimper (even if I have put him back down) and when I bring him into bed with us between 5.30 and 7 depending on when he wakes, he is not interested in snuggling up with him so I can get some additional sleep and as soon as he starts to make noises he tells me he is hungry/dirty etc but will not get out of bed to change him agggghhhh
Sorry can you tell I am a bit upset about all this and needed to offload. Am also starting to worry that this is PND but I think that this is my previous depression talking, rather than real PND although I have called my CPN to try and arrange a meeting later this week if possible

If you have made it this far thanks for reading. It feels much better to have got it off my chest

ThePenguinProject · 21/07/2008 18:34

Hi All - Just checking in with the new name to add this to my 'threads I'm on'. Have added some photos too.

Hope to read recent posts when DH gets home - and he better get home soon. It would appear that DS really does not like Mondays. Last week he was a nightmare and today is the same. Feeds for just 5 mins, goes to sleep on boob, will not be woken. Put him down and he wakes 5 mins later screaming. Only thing that stops him crying is, guess what, feeding. So the cycle begins....arrrrrrgggghhhh.

Hope everyone is ok - out the corner of my eye I can see bits of HH's post, sending you lots of love and patience HH.

The Mum formerly known as Pregnant Penguin (who also had a very brief foray with the name bullet nipples, still an accurate description btw...)

sophiewd · 21/07/2008 18:37

This is going to be my last message here. You guys talk to much and sometimes ignore those of us who post infrequently. But an update. Sebastian is doing really well. he is just waking once at night now so we are getting some good stretches of sleeo. We have just done Camp Bestival which I can highly reccommend for those with children, it was a reallyu good fun and fantastic atmopshere and very much geared towards family, and no we didn't camp with a month old we stayed with my parents.

Good luck everyone with their babies and have a good summer. enjoy your maternity leave aswell and make the most of it, we are back to B&B with a vengence on Tursday but looking forward to our holiday in November.

systemsaddict · 21/07/2008 19:11

Sorry to hear that you're leaving us sophie - hope you might check in once in a while? And sorry you've felt ignored too - fwiw I've always thought of you as being one of the 'core' people in the group, didn't realise you were an infrequent poster!

Thanks for words of support everyone, the day did look up as both children slept at the same time YAY so I got some very overdue home paperwork sorted out and some peace in the middle of the day for the first time when I've had both of them. After lunch naps are going to have to be mandatory in this house - once we get into anything like a routine with Caitlin that is.

PiggyPenguin · 21/07/2008 19:40

Rolf - DH is private sector but does lots of work with the public sector so who knows, maybe they are acquainted.

Jamie is properly poorly. He is being hugely sick after every feed which is stressful for both of us, I know the dr's won't do anything unless he gets de-hydrated and am trying to get short drink feeds into him after he is sick to try to prevent this but we are both exhausted. I can see it is going to be a long night...

Sorry to see you go Sophie, I can see your point that sometimes it does seem that infrequent posting leads to being a bit ignored but I don't think it is personal. It is a shame that you won't be checking in on us but good luck for the future.

Essie3 · 21/07/2008 20:15

Folks with problematic other halves - sympathies. Mine is away for 2 nights & we've had a big row over who has it worse (definitely me). But he has just gone to H&M and got me more nursing tops.
1 handed typing. hedgohog really sorry to hear you're having a bad time.

Iestyn is sleeping but only in my arms & won't settle in his cot.

can't type any more

ThePenguinProject · 21/07/2008 21:08

DQ - Struan's evenings sound just like Ryder's were! Now the cluster feeding you're getting in the evening can happen at anytime of the day. No real advise as such though, sorry! Initially it worried me, then I just relaxed and let it happen, I felt it was worth it to keep the nights down to just one feed. However perhaps the others suggestion re: EBM in the evenings might work. NB: My hosp experience wasn't that different to yours re: BF and skin to skin. Really disappointing, altho I still haven't got round to posting full birth story!

Bit worried as tummy really hurting tonight....think I may have been doing a little more than a c-section allows...was planning on trying out odeon newbies tomorrow, but maybe a day at home would be best.

Allnew&Ampster - I try and leave the house each day, even if only for a quick walk. But I haven't always managed it and don't beat myself up if we don't.

LL&HH - Your DH's are being numpties.

HH - DS is 4 weeks today and 4oz EBM is usually enough for him.

Essie - Is it good to be out of the smoke? Let us know when you'll be back. Ryder has decided that he will only sleep if held ATM too, luckily DH is home now so i've left them to it.

Sophie - Amazed that you made it to Bestival, v impressive. Hope you'll pop back every so often? I've found that even when I don't post (and I haven't posted much recently at all) that just reading what everyone else is going thru has made me feel so much better. The advise from the more experienced (eg: those that were Mums already and Neenz) has been invaluable.

Phew - massive post, sorry.

spongebrainbigpants · 21/07/2008 21:12

Sophie, I get ignored quite alot but I'm quite happy to talk to myself!! I ramble on anyway, and just find it good to write things down to make sense of stuff.

Best wishes for you, the family and the business.

Alex has been asleep now since 4pm - does this mean a good night or bad?!

Neenztwinz · 21/07/2008 21:34

Sorry you feel that way Sophie, this thread is hard when you come on and there are five new pages of posts. Smaller groups are better I think - we have a nice one for twin mums-to-be (much easier than the main multiples thread). Come back soon tho.

I am crapping myself now that I am pregnant again I know I know, it is my own fault if I am... I think I'll take a test tomorrow, I have loads of those cheapo tests left from my days of desperately ttc.

Will let you know the result tomorrow..

alipalli · 21/07/2008 21:40

Can't believe that it has taken me so long to write something here. For a few days I didn't even manage to lurk, but when I get the chance I massively appreciate being able to see what you are all up to even if I'm not contributing myself.

Sophie sorry to see you leave the thread. I always think of you as being core to the group too (more core than me anyway).

I am also waiting to hear from Deb on how Austria's wedding of the year went yesterday. Hope that Ethan wore the outfit of your dreams and the spots weren't too bad. Peter has also been spotty for a couple of weeks. He also has a gungey eye, but I still think he looks beautiful! [biased Mum emoticon]

Too many posts to comment on. Just want to say that I am completely with the people who have days where they struggle to adjust/cope. Things are good here at the moment, but then I never get onto the internet on the bad days .

mellymell · 21/07/2008 21:47

Just adding myself to the list, although can't promise to be a regular poster - like reading people's comments though.

And Neenz - interesting situation to be in!! I remember your post a few weeks back about trusting to fate . I hope you get the result you want.

Personally, I intend to be dressed in complete chain mail and will make DH wear a full body condom before I'll agree to resuming conjugal rights.

BTW have added myself to the list.

Essie3 · 21/07/2008 21:47

NO WAY NEENZ! Take a test now and tell us!! Do you think you are? Any symptoms?? Or just a hunch? (Hunches worked for me for both pregnancies. Correct both times, first time was 1 day after we tried.)

Sorry if I'm ignoring everybody else but Neenz's post was too spectacular...

Iestyn is currently fussing in his moses basket. I'm currently stressing and trying to ignore him . So I'm getting a taste of being a single mum for a couple of nights - and to all single mums out there (are there any on this thread?) I salute you. You're amazing women.

Oh, and just for good luck - Dummy Angst #8. Feeds have been strange today. He sucks for a few minutes, then pulls off, screams, shakes his head etc. I think he did this before the dummy, but is doing it more now. Feeds have been a bit more frequent. Meanwhile, my Mum has been helping but she can't bear to hear him cry, so puts the dummy in - more than I would. So I'm terrified that this is it, nipple confusion. Mind you, it's only been a week with the dummy and my Mum is convinced that he's feeding ok and gaining weight. However, I've only had 1 dirty nappy (but all of them were wet). Also, my boobs aren't exploding any more. You'd think I'd be happy, but no, it's cause of more anxiety! Some people are never happy!

On the subject of being ignored, I posted on the breastfeeding board and not a soul has responded! (Don't all go and respond - it's dummies again, I'm a one track record .

Essie3 · 21/07/2008 21:52

Wait, wait, what's that sound? NOTHING!! Abandonment has worked and Iestyn is settled! Luckily I have the baby monitor for Paranoid Parents so I know he's still breathing - in fact, I think I recommended the monitor to people here and should get a cut of Tommee Tippee's profits. I would still make a loss given the amount of breast pads I get through. Moo. Today, though, I'm only wearing two. (One in each cup, that is - it's normally two in each cup. . At the one time in my life when I actually have a cleavage, I also stuff my bra! The irony!)

libralady · 21/07/2008 21:54

Thanks for all the positive thoughts girls. I have relented on the golf thing though, albeit as long as tee off time is very early in the morning so he is back by lunchtime to spend some time with the children.
Maybe I am a soft touch and incredibly tired so emotions are running high. We haven't argued or even raised voices regarding this so are still calm iyswim. I know I need to put my foot down and even moaned sbout DH to MIL today and she agreed he needs to make some more family time.
Oh and work have agreed to me extending my ML due to my Mum having her hip replacement op and her being my childcare. Now instead of going back on 22nd September, I'm going back on 3rd November after the 1/2 term holidays unless of course I win the lottery.
TPP Happy 4 week birthday to Ryder also.
sophiewd I am sorry to see you leave also. You are/were a more frequent poster than me. I have mentioned before I am only down the road from you so if you fancy a meet up at some point, let me know. In fact I was not far from you today. Went to Margaret Greens at Church Knowle. Quite often go over the Purbecks for a drive/walk.

libralady · 21/07/2008 21:57

neenz OMG! Hope you get the result you want. Keep us posted.

spongebrainbigpants · 21/07/2008 21:58

Essie, I'm impressed at you coping on your own - dh went away for a night last week and mum came up! And he's away for a week at the beginning of August, and mum is coming up again!

KWYM about single mums - how do they do it night after night after night ?

I also have paranoid parent alarm and think it's completely fab!

Can't offer any advice on the dummy/nipple confusion, sorry!

Essie3 · 21/07/2008 22:06

Sponge - I'm not really coping because my mum came all day, and she is on standby for tonight too! Mind you, I'm a stubborn so-and-so and keep stressing that I'm not a particularly good mother really, so I want to succeed. But I did have hysterics on the phone with DH at 10am (he left at 6.30) It is so hard (and also rather boring), and now single mums are right up there on a mega pedestal in my mind. I'm tough, a high achiever, but motherhood has totally floored me.

Essie3 · 21/07/2008 22:06

As I still have a lovely silent house (and a flashing breathing sensor, phew!) I'm going to go to bed!!

spongebrainbigpants · 21/07/2008 22:09

Essie, don't think having your mum on standby is not coping - it's still v early days, and I haven't managed a night on my own yet, and can't see me doing so for quite some time .

The days are v long on your own - dh is going to work at 5am tomorrow and getting home at 9pm. Not looking forward to it. And he's sleeping in the spare room tonight cos he's got such an early start. And Alex is wide awake now cos he's had a 5 hr sleep.

Oh dear .

libralady · 21/07/2008 22:09

Essie SBBP I'm with you guys on the single mum thing. I recall saying after DS1 I don't know how they do it and I have such much admiration for them.
DH has been away on several occasionsor had early starts since Luke has been born. Luciky my parents live abound the corner and they had DS1 overnight when this happened as I knew I would not be in a fit state to get him ready for playschool as well as look after a newborn without DH. Luckily it's the holidays so it's not an issue now.
Another paranoid parent here. We've got the Angelcare monitor which also monitors breathing. Bought this for DS1 as we were/are smokers (not in the house or car or anywhere near the children) so I was extremely paranoid. DH still smokes so will be using it again this time.
