TGF, B has settled down a bit today. Luckily, I don't have any problem giving him the gel, he slurps away, but then of course it doesn't really stay in his mouth!

Katyjo and DramaQ - the shopping centre near us is Silverburn. Braehead is the sixth circle of hell if you ask me - too hot, too many people, etc. I'm not a huge fan of shopping centres (well, I wasn't til B came along, but trips into the city centre are curtailed), but Silverburn is pretty good - some decent places to eat, and enough shops to cover my bases. As I said, am v impressed with their baby facilities - they even have parent and child bathrooms, with kid size toilets. How my life has changed...

Katyjo, where are you in Glasgow? Sorry if I've asked before, but you'll know brain is mince these days.... And where is the bf support group you mentioned? I haven't had great bf advice/help so far, HV as much use as chocolate fireguard. If it wasn't for Greenfairy posting about thrush, I wouldn't have realised that's what was wrong.

DQ, hope your knockers are ok!!!! Seriously, I do hope it's not too painful. I have used our Babybjorn carrier a couple of times, but B not that keen. I also have a Hotsling, which I am yet to try properly - B screamed the first time I tried it, but maybe time to try again - think it might be better for indoors. We love our Babybjorn babysitter though - B especially happy when it's parked next to the washing machine!

Does anyone have any recommendations for where I can get a nice casual outfit for B? We are going to visit my family and friends back home in a few weeks time; we're doing afternoon tea at nice country house so B can meet everyone, and I'd like some togs for him. I'm not keen on 'proper' clothes for babies IYSWIM (and it's too much faff I think) - maybe a nice romper suit or something? I have barely had him out of babygros or little cross over body suits so far!

Hope everyone else is doing well today.

bitofadramaqueen · 08/08/2008 11:57

Ooh, thanks for that sybil - S managed to settle himself to sleep so I've been manically running around for the last hour doing housework and thought I'd have a quick MN break before doing the hoovering. Will leave it alone. Very reassuring to hear that yours had gone back on their own - I was given exercises to do but keep forgetting. Although, not been out and about with the pram too much. Was planning long walk this afternoon but pram in back of car which is currently parked at DH's office .

Amber I was advised on discharge that my stomach muscles had seperated in pregnancy and was given exercises and physio appt. Not sure if its the same kind of damage that happens in C-section tho. Maybe someone else who's had a section knows? Worth speaking to your GP to find out if you need a physio referral though.

needahand glad you had a good night. The power of sleep is amazing!

Amberc · 08/08/2008 12:04

whinegums Jojo Maman Bebe have lovely things and you get a 10% Mumsnet discount www.jojomamanbebe.co.uk/

poppy34 · 08/08/2008 12:10

hi all - libra good news re your good night, what kind of monitor do you have as thnk I need to get one as edie going into her own room soon (cot too big for ours)..and I;ll be paranoid. also with you on watching olympics at nights.. beats rubbish 50s b movies.

amber cool news re car (we have new one and I need to get more confident in it as am most nervous driver ever)...

better not post anymore as off to take edie to doc for check up.

whinegums think boden has a sale on too if you are still looking for athat outfit..picked a few things for edie to grow into (phrases I thought I'd never say..amazing how you turn into your mum )

Amberc · 08/08/2008 12:46

poppy got a nanny monitor and it's brilliant - monitors the slightest moevement - tiny baby breaths - and an alarm goes off if there's nothing for 20 seconds.

Essie3 · 08/08/2008 13:10

I have a similar one from Tommee Tippee. It's more expensive but I got mine on e-bay.

libralady · 08/08/2008 13:57

Mine's the Angelcare one. It's what we bought for DS1. A bit expensive but definately worth it. Again senses the breathing movements and alarm activates if nothing after 20 seconds. We got ours in Argos. I think they still do them. May be worth using any nectar points you have towards the cost.
HTH

PiggyPenguin · 08/08/2008 13:59

BDQ - also, have just remembered that you are n ot supposed to carry the car seat with baby in as too heavy for stomach muscles. I got a fab little pop-up bed for J to put him into when I got to places rather than leave him in carseat as I would normally and he has loved it! Sadly he is growing very quickly for it though.

He has been doing some very odd feeding recently and now I have one permanently full breast and one empty one. Not sure how it happened. TGF - am wondering if may have thrush as full side very uncomfortable, did it make you feel engorged? Or maybe it just is engorged and I need to keep a better eye on equaling things out!

poppy34 · 08/08/2008 15:52

thanks amber/essie/bdq ..am going to do some shopping while dh at cricket.. miraculously edie went down to sleep in her cot for nap really easily... did put some old stinky teeshirts of my/dh in and some toys (Hv tip) and seems to have worked...

libralady · 08/08/2008 16:39

Hi,

Debs hope you had a lovely anniversary. I just cannot keep up with all the goings on.

Have just managed to upload some new piccies inlcuding one of my Mum with my Nan on her 100th birthday from last weekend. I will put one of the professional ones on of the family group once I have figured out the CD rom.

With regards to new thread name (we've only got 30 odd posts left) how about something like 'Olympic Babies - we all deserve a gold medal'. Sorry I've been watching the opening ceremony whilst both boys are asleep. DS1 took himself off about 30 minutes ago as he wants to stay up later tonight to watch Superstars. He likes the diving!

Better go and prepare the veg for tea whilst I have the opportunity.

Oh and my Dad has gone to pick my Mum up from hospital, she has been released!

ThePenguinProject · 08/08/2008 16:55

Essie - So impressed you made it to Oxford St! Will get tips from you next time we meet... By JL do you mean John Lewis, I'll have to bear in mind that they have a feeding area.

After leaving London ladies I went to my work (St Pauls) for an hour where Ryder was an angel then to DH's work (Tower Bridge) for 30ms where he wasn't. DH and then walked along the Thames and had dinner in Canteen on the South Bank and got home about 10pm. V busy day - lots of walking which will hopefully cancel out the two restaurant meals! BTW he screamed his head off when we walked by St Pauls....should I be concerned in an omen style way?

MammaWhiz - I'm in South Wimbledon and as you've seen we've had a couple of London RL meet ups recently. Drop me an email if you'd like: [email protected]

Amber - I'm impressed with Luke for finding that gap!

BDQ -I trapped Ryder's ear in the baby bjorn catch. Ironic as I put him in it to stop him grizzling but he ended up howling after that.

The only thing I took from Gina Ford was that LO's can take 25ms on one boob to get hind milk so at home I try and feed on one boob for 20-25min then ten mins on the other boob. Incl winding and changing if he's fallen asleep, a good full feed takes up to 45mins. When out and about I let him have what he wants when he wants it (be that 5 or 35 mins). Tho my hv said fore & hind milk is a myth and is based on cattle, not humans....{shock]

Whinegums - I agree with Poppy. A well meaning friend gave me the baby boden catalogue today and it's actually got some lovely stuff. Quite expensive IMO tho.

LL - I've been watching Olympics too and like the name. at the soldiers goosestepping and the beginning and the pretence at China being enviromentally aware...

LauraT · 08/08/2008 17:44

whinegums i was proud of my ability to identify your shopping centre of choice on your initial decription - read it and thought 'that'll be Silverburn then!' now that's a bit tragic isn't it? I also think Braehead is at least 1 circle of hell, if not all 9... although it is very handy for me and I sometimes end up going anyway. saying that I am scared of the uber Tesco at Silverburn, I imagine there must be a whole tribe of lost husbands and children in there somewhere!

katyjo I don't think I had fully clocked you were also in Glasgow!

sophie I know it was a few days ago, but have you decided what to do about your nursery yet? biting seems to be such a difficult problem to address.

Deb happy anniversary, and so sad to hear about your friend's husband, how tragic.

Looney hope you didn't have too much grief from your post on your friend being read? nice to have you back.

BDQ hope that you aren't having too much boob pain with the weaning off the pump!

I am also having unsettled evenings with Charlotte, she doesn't finally go down until 10.30 - 11pm normally but after that sleeps until 3.30am has a short feed and then sleeps until 7am. saying that, last night she went down at 1130pm and slept until 6. bliss! She can be very screamy in the evening, with no particular reason, after eliminating feeding, changing and winding, we have concluded she was just screaming because she's tired and has forgotten how to go to sleep!

Impressed at your London meetup ladies, Perhaps we should have a Glasgow/Scottish one?

am struggling to keep up with everything on here, but am still lurking every couple of days, even if I don't have time to post!

whinegums · 08/08/2008 18:06

Laura, I knew you'd know which one I meant - when I posted I was wondering where you were! LOL at 'uber Tesco' - it can indeed be quite scary in there, but good exercise getting around it!

I'd be up for a Glasgow/Scottish meet up.

B has just had a mega feeding frenzy - not even 2 hours after the last one. First time he has done both sides - I feel like I've been sucked dry! And it still took him less than 20 mins altogether.

He can also be quite screamy in the evenings, usually for no reason. I think he just gets a bit over stimulated, and then doesn't want to settle in case he's missing anything!

bitofadramaqueen · 08/08/2008 18:30

Evening all, DH has taken over with S for the screamy evening shift. It seems to be a common complaint!

Had a good day today though, S was showing some interest in some plastic links and his play mat which was good.

Whinegums I know what you mean by shopping centres suddenly seeming very attractive! Free parking, baby friendly facilities... Although I was in JL in Edinburgh yesterday and that is super baby friendly. Looking forward to kids going back to school though when JL (and everywhere else) will be a lot quieter during the week. I'd have thought the JL in Buchanan Galleries would have good facilities? Dont think I've been to Silverburn shopping centre but have been to Braehead. Soulless place, but a lot quieter during the week in term time.

If feeling brave I wouldn't mind coming through to Glasgow to see you west coast ladies if it was somewhere central. Is there anyone else on here in Edinburgh or round about? Am sure there was someone from Fife a while back.

PP - sorry to hear that Ryder's ear got trapped, but glad its not just me

Whinegums meant to say, Seesaw in Edinburgh does good quality romper suits, babygrows etc. Google 'Seesaw Edinburgh' and you should find it easily. Haven't been in for a while but we got some really nice organic romper suits as a gift that I'm sure came from there. They also do lovely wooden toys etc.

bitofadramaqueen · 08/08/2008 18:32

Essie - I'm still wearing maternity tops. While they are loose fitting they certainly dont look too baggy or too big for me

Have wedding to go to in 2 weeks, need to do some power walking with the pram if I'm going to fit into any of my squillion wedding outfits... Perhaps I'll just need to get something new (and some spanx magic pants!)

whinegums · 08/08/2008 18:49

Cheers DQ - will check out Seesaw. Oddly enough was considering Spanx today, and started another thread about it.

Yes, JL probably does have good facilities, it's just a nightmare getting into the city centre - and not easy getting around so many shops once you're in them!

Where would be central for you? Is it mad in Edinburgh now the Festival is in full swing? DP working there at the moment.

Oh, and back to the Babybjorn - I tried B in it again this afternoon to pop out to the post office - and realised when we were out I hadn't attached the bottom clip on one side . Eeek!

debinaustria · 08/08/2008 22:09

Just a quickie - Whinegums, even though Ethan didn't get to wear his romper - Emile et Rose do lovely things and you cab get them cheap on ebay and hardly worn at this age. Just make sure you get the right size - not like me!!

Amberc · 09/08/2008 08:10

That Emile et Rose stuff is beautiful - just had a look at the winter 2008 collection on their website - no prices tough so must be expensive!!

debinaustria · 09/08/2008 08:15

Last to leave and first to arrive - morning ladies and how are you all today? Good night here, 10.00-3.00, then 3.30-6.00, then 6.00-8.00. I can cope with that.

Raining here today - , so off food shopping, then must tackle the ironing before changeover day again tomorrow. Wish me luck!!

BDQ - how was the screaming last night?

Laura - hope you had another good night

Lovely photos Libra

debinaustria · 09/08/2008 08:16

morning amber how are things?

katyjo · 09/08/2008 09:27

essie did I call gf a brahead!! Will take me too long to try and find my post but apologies to TGF if I did, my typing isn't upto much!!

Whinegums I only went to silverburn for the first time this week, its great! I invested in a double buggy (out n' about nipper) which is fantastic, I can strap ds in and go shopping!
The support group I go to is at the queen mum's on thursdays 1-3pm. The facilitator Rosemary is the best person I've seen and she is very no nonsense. I've only been twice but I plan to keep going.

Would love to meet up laura and BDQ whinegums who else is up here?

Amberc · 09/08/2008 10:21

Hi Debs - all OK. Luke slept all day long yesterday which is very unlike him and when he woke he cried like mad until he went to sleep again. What's that about? Is that a growth spurt? I blame every anomaly on growth spurts! Then of course at bed time he wouldn't go down. Brought him downstairs and he was dog tired and finally went to sleep in his cot at 9.45 after a feed. Woke up for feeding at 2.30 (so 5 hours - hurrah!) and 6.30 and has conked out on a pillow now face down. Assume it's OK to go face down if monitored?

How is everyone else today? I am very excited as going for a lesson in my new car although not sure how safe it is with a baby in the back but hey ho - no choice.

LauraT · 09/08/2008 11:47

have realised a bonus of the olympics being on... DH was happy to get up this morning at 645 and take C downstairs giving me an extra hour in bed because the rowing coverage was on! brilliant! this was after we had another night of uninterrupted sleep from 1145 until 630, so am feeling very sprightly, and (drum roll please) I am up to date with ironing and washing! all by myself without the assistance of my Mum! BDQ are you proud?

katyjo I didn't realise that the QMH still had a support group, must have missed that in my hurry to get home I am going to go to their post natal shape up class starting on 22nd though, are you going to this?

where and when do we fancy meeting up then? I'm west end based but flexible about where we meet - am away from tues to fri this week coming though, so the following week would be better?

hope everyone else is having a good day - indoors activities here all day due to crappy weather - typical Glasgow August!

PiggyPenguin · 09/08/2008 12:41

quiet on here today. Going on holiday next week (Sat) and have just realised that pram fills the entire boot so need to buy cheap smallish pushchair - raining cats and dogs so will at least give me something to do this afternoon

whinegums · 09/08/2008 13:22

Hello all, thanks for recommendations for clothes everyone. Deb, saw some Emile et Rose stuff at the shops and was shocked at the prices, so ta for the Ebay recommendation. I've seen a little romper thing I like, so will bid on it. Does anyone know how 'best offer' works on Ebay - does the seller have to accept the highest bid? Not sure how that's any different to how Ebay normally works?

Katyjo, let me know next time you're going to Silverburn, I am there at least twice a week at the moment! Ta for the info re the Queen Mum's too - might give that a go. There is also a support group at Millbrae antenatal - v close to me - on Fridays, so I wonder if Rosemary goes there too. Must try and go to one of them though, bf is getting easier, but I still don't feel entirely happy. Was reading some posts on the bf boards, with people saying it took months for some of them to 'click'. Don't know if I can keep going that long!

Laura, I think I'm going to be away the following week (if DP gets sorted and books something) and I'm definitely away the week after that too. Did you enjoy Batman?

Amber have fun in the new car. Sybil, would be interested to hear which pushchair you end up with, mine takes up just about the whole boot too, and have realised I will definitely need something lighter and smaller. Seems that everyone ends up with a Maclaren of sorts eventually!
