Sorry if someone else has already started one - couldn't find it!

Much better night last night, maybe due to gripe water?

Have you looked for mother and baby groups in your area?
Also baby massage courses can be done with younger babies.
Or one of the pushy mothers classes that peachy linked to earlier in the thread.
With my first it was a real culture shock going from working full time to being at home with a baby. And I had no friends with babies.
Try quizzing your health visitor next time you see her - they usually have a list of local groups that meet up. And don't be put off if you get a cliquey one as there are all sorts of groups around. You'll find one to suit you.

Having been a SAHM for 2 years now they preserve my sanity (and DD1s!)

elfsmummy · 24/06/2008 14:51

Where abouts in the UK are you?

Got to go now as DD1 waking from nap and we're off to the library but I bet we can find all sorts in your area over the power of the WWW! Will be back online this evening

Niceychops · 24/06/2008 14:55

Thanks EM! I am in Whitton, by Twickenham in London. I looked at the NCT site but couldnt find baby massage or similar, however am a bit of a numpty with websites.

I am finding it quite a dramatic shift going from full-on busy life to being at home all day!

LadyBee · 24/06/2008 15:07

niceychops, I told the HV at the 8 wk check that I was feeling a bit isolated and asked her about local groups/activities and she gave me a booklet that had details of some local groups.
I also looked at the websites of the libraries in my borough (look on your council website), as there are three that are fairly easy to get to by me and a couple of those have activities.
You could try doing web searches for things like "baby massage", "baby yoga", "baby salsa" (not kidding) and see whether anything comes up that's easy to get to. I think lots of London mums are in the same boat so going to just one thing will probably lead to meeting for coffee/lunch etc.

Hi girls!

How are you all doing? Have only skim read some of the posts as would take me so long to read them all that dc would all be up from their naps!

Scampmum- the routine you described is virtually exactly the same as GF (she who must not be named). My 3 are all in a very similar routine- it works very well! Hence they are all napping now- even my 3yo still naps every day after lunch. They have been asleep for 2.5 hours!

Robyn is 7 weeks now and is very alert. She smiles and laughs now. She has been a great sleeper since day 1. She always goes to bed around 7pm and wakes once or twice during the night. She isn't in a very structured routine for daytime sleeps yet but is getting there. She is however a very sicky baby and has loads of wind. She seems to often find it uncomfortable to feed from my right boob. In fact today she has barely had any milk cos she keeps crying but I think she has a cold too. She must be getting something though cos she's now 10lb 10oz so she's put on 2lb 9oz in total.

I am very excited cos we are going on holiday to Croatia in September but I must lose weight first!! Someone mentioned Davina DVD which I have got but what I lack is the inclination and energy. I have good intentions but come 8.30pm I am exhausted. Must try harder.

Will try to be a bit more regular on here from now on!

Scampmum · 24/06/2008 15:40

ARGH! have no idea what is going on today. She's obviously tired but keeps waking up.

Does anyone else's LO do half a burp? i.e. you can feel it coming up the back but then it just... disappears?

I need my maternity nurse back

scorpio1 · 24/06/2008 15:46

OMFG

Reilly has tennis after school on tuesdays. i pick him up at 4.15

my mate found Reilly outside on the road ALONE at 3.30

He had bypassed teachers and got out about 400 m away from his class

i bollocked the school. Reilly is dyspraxic and not very savvy; he could of been on the news this morning - it takes one second.

scorpio1 · 24/06/2008 15:48

AIBU to want to phone county hall/ofsted???

PeachyWontLieToYou · 24/06/2008 15:54

phone them, think of what could have happened!

bas just weighed- 4.5oz! yay! refused to let them weigh him at baby club, even though it meant a 2 hr wait for clinic.

water babies came to do a talk today. like the idea but.... 10 weeks 30 minute classes at £105 a term- that's like £20 an hour!

think i will get a paddling pool lol

scorpio1 · 24/06/2008 15:55

the head was apologetic, but still.....

on weight

Niceychops · 24/06/2008 16:02

thanks Ladybee!

sagitta · 24/06/2008 16:14

Well done peachy/ bas!

Scampmum · 24/06/2008 16:35

Well done, Peachy!

Scorpio - how did the school react? That's what I would base my escalation on, I think.

We seem to be in a eat/activity/sleep cycle here, only each stage is 10-20 mins long - any ideas? Am thinking perhaps expressed milk just so I know she's had enough and am then less likely to misinterpret other cues as hunger.

[why-am-I-such-a-dunce-at-this emoticon]

On a brighter note, we are having great success [speaks too soon emoticon] at potty training - big thanks to Denny for the bribery tip! Hence high level of MN today - sitting at comp bfing and supervising a newly bepanted toddler.

scorpio1 · 24/06/2008 16:42

they were very apologetic, they are a very good school, they wanted to listen and they asked me what i would want to see them doing. They are phoning me later to update me on progress.

VictorianSqualor · 24/06/2008 16:47

Scorpio, I'd go mental.
Yay Peachy, you must have been drinking full fat rather than semi-skimmed this week
Whoever said about baby being sniffly and getting more wind (Ladybee I think) it's because they can't breathe through their nose if it's sniffly and therefore don't latch properly, which means they take in more wind. I don't know if it's recc'd but with all mine if I can see bogies I put a cotton bud in the tip of their nostril and roll it, as you roll if you ahve the bogey it all comes out in one, you'd be surprised the amount they can store in there!
Just picked up some tomme tippee closer to nature bottles, was going to just grab teats, but they are wideneck, our bottles aren't, so was goign to get boots bottles and tommee tippee teats then realised the tommee tippee whole packet was cheaper I nearly forked out an extra £3 on separate items [prat emoticon]

VictorianSqualor · 24/06/2008 16:48

Scamp, I'd say she is tired, but is getting woken up by something.
Can you keep her awake long enough for a feed then swaddle her in her cot?

scorpio1 · 24/06/2008 16:53

[going out tonight emoticon]

PortAndLemon · 24/06/2008 17:11

Niceychops -- you are very close to bunyanvillas, who's in Isleworth and (intermittently as she Has A Life) on this thread. I'm in Putney so a bit further away.

Scampmum · 24/06/2008 17:23

She is swaddled now but in bouncy chair in kitchen. What do those of you with two or more do for naps? I want to put her upstairs in basket so it's quiet, but that entails either a) leaving DD1 down here to her own devices for potentially long period/running up and down with either/both crying (it's going to be this one, isn't it?) or b) having her there with me being very noisy and defeating the object/making it take even longer to get her to sleep. She ends up more often than not sleeping down here which I'm pretty sure leads to lower quality sleep - I've always been of the school of getting them used to noise, but I'm not sure an excitable 2 year old who REALLY loves to get REALLY close to her sister and screech REALLY loudly in her ear counts as normal background decibellage.

Just had our first wee all over the (non-detachable cushioned) sofa. Tried to soak it up with kitchen roll but other than that do I just leave it? Was a high stress moment - DD1 really upset about having wet herself and DD2 supertired but fighting sleep in a shouty way.

Scorpio have a great night. I have been out once and took DD2 (apart from the 2 hour drink with DH that resulted in the swim nappy debacle/eviction of the in-laws)! I know sleep has to be the priority but I'm not sure DH appreciates quite how much my hair is itching to be let down after 13 months on the wagon!

STFU

Niceychops · 24/06/2008 20:26

thanks p&a!

LadyBee · 24/06/2008 20:52

woohoo! Have burped DS's wind into submission, remembered someone describing all-over-body wiggling as = tired and bundled him upstairs, his head started nodding on the way up, got him swaddled and he fell asleep before I even got him in the basket. He's still sleeping, but we're coming up to the end of the magic 45 min mark (he always wakes around then if he's going to)...fingers crossed he carries on. Think I'll crawl into bed as soon as we've had dinner and get OH to feed him EBM if nec at 10/11

VS - aha! He DOES have bogeys, he's had them all week and I've been eyeing the cotton buds but not brave enough to use yet. Will have a go and see whether that helps.

I am definitely going to the breastfeeding session tomorrow - it'll be before the meet-up so will just get myself sorted out earlier and do one then on to the other

Scamp - I don't have 2, but just wondered whether you were able to somehow screen off a "quiet" corner somewhere downstairs where you could put DD2 for nap, but that DD1 might not have total access to?

Peach - fab weight gain...go Bas!

Soph, I have no inclination for exercise either. I'm just trying to go for stroll with pram most days and not eat too much crap - easier said than done, I seem to have an enormous constant chocolate craving. While pg was totally a savoury girl, but have now switched to sweet.
