THERMOMETERS!! DP chucked mine away when Ds was 6 months after noticing that i had been checking his temp every other day for no reason at all.

DP is talking about when we have another baby and i'm thinking NO WAY can just about cope now with this little beast. Don't know how you ladies do it.

DS has decided to do mega wee at 5:30 every morning the last three night totally soak himself and then not go back to sleep after a change of nappy, clothes and bedding, i'm so tired i feel absolutly usless today, DS hasn't even been taken for a walk because that would involve me haveing a shower and getting ready.

Dp is reaaly getting on my nerves telling me "we must get him out of the habit of going to sleep with a dummy" WE ? i'm the one who will have to deal will the hell nights!!

Prufrock · 25/01/2005 16:10

Kate - you reminded me. Have you tried letting him fall almost asleep with the dummy, then removing it when he is eyes closed, still but just having those last few feeble sucks. It might make him feel better about the dummy not being there when he wakes in teh middle of the night? You do have to be careful though - too soon and he'll wake up fully, too late and ther's no point.

Bozza · 25/01/2005 16:18

Kate - you don't really need to have a shower to take him for a walk. Just wear a hat its cold enough. Actually am finding it a bit of a hassle taking the two of them out on foot at the moment. DD really protested on the two occasions I have put her in a snowsuit thing (glad that was a hand-me-down) so I tried putting her in tights, trousers and socks which worked OK and socks even stayed on better than normal.

We've never done dummies (come up with a whole range of other issues instead) so can't really help there. But IKWYM about DP.

kate79 · 25/01/2005 16:35

bozza just got myself ready to go out (hat inc) i've resorted to putting the socks on uder a baby grow to keep ds's on. lol

Prufrock- did that dummy thing today actually and really work have tried it before with the only result being a scream fest. gonna keep at that.

egypt · 25/01/2005 17:41

kate, try this maybe - dummy

so sorry to hear you are having a rough time of it susi and casmie. where do you guys live? arent you somewhere near burton on trent susi?

dd is pulling herself up on anything now. cant quite manage the last little bit yet. she can FINALLY sit back up after falling on her front too. ahh, great.

SusiS · 26/01/2005 09:06

morning ladies! lucas is getting really good with sleeping through lately! 6.30-6! unfortunately i am having troubles now grrrr - woke at 2 and kept waking from then on - why????? lucas is dressed, bottled, breakfasted, and back in bed again grins - so i am going to have my breakfast now in front of the telly

Bozza · 26/01/2005 09:17

Well I went out last night and am paying the price this morning. Not really hungover but so tired that I am barely functioning. Wouldn't have been too bad if I had just come home when the pub closed and gone to bed. But I went back to my friend's house (neighbour) because she was giving me a pair of shoes so I got home at 11.45, then (rather surprisingly) DH was awake and wanting a bit of bedroom activity which being a bit tipsy I agreed to so not sure what time I got to sleep, then DD was up at 5.45.... Apparently DS woke about 3am but I slept through that one thankfully. Think I need some matches to prop my eyes open. Had a nice time and a lovely meal though.

OP posts:
Casmie · 26/01/2005 09:39

Feeling dead - anyone like to borrow a couple of kids?

Ds1 had a humdinger of a nightmare last night (involving someone stealing his eyes I think?!) and ds2 woke at 3am again for an hour and then woke at 6am and has only just now gone to sleep (so is horribly overtired and bad tempered). I can't see that anything is wrong and medised didn't work so I don't think he's in pain or anything - wants to play as soon as we go in to check on him... ARGH!

And to top it all, dh has got the lurgy too so he's gone back to bed. I'm feeling the beginnings of the lurgy and I'd LOVE to go back to bed too but I have to soldier on and keep the household going.... sigh.

egypt · 26/01/2005 10:39

poor you casmie. sleep deprivation is the cruellest form of torture and when you are ill as well..... {{{{{{{hugs}}}}}}}}}

if its any consolation dd was a pain again last night. i knew our 2 nights of almost bliss couldnt last. she woke at 9pm and screamed until we got her up to watch a bit of child of our time. she settled on my lap but was very unhappy on dh's which upset him no end. he kept asking for her back, although he knew she only wanted me. then i was peeved at him because he was being selfish...oh dear. she did settle with him in the end mind and went back to sleep half an hour later. woke at 1 and 230 and 745. spose it wasnt that bad but i feel it this morning.

piano tuner here, which dd is fascinated by. bless. must get her to come daily

sounds like you had a great night bozza

how do you feel today susi?

Bozza · 26/01/2005 10:59

Sounds like we're all a bit rough this morning (feel a bit guilty because mine was mainly self-induced). Was actually a bit unlucky because normally when DD wakes at 5.45 I will breast feed and she will go back to bed but she had done a poo so by the time that was changed she was wide awake.

Apparently she didn't go to bed until 8.30 last night (an hour late) because she had a late nap at nursery (5.05pm for half an hour). So apparently she sat up with her daddy for an hour watching The Empire Strikes Back. Have instructed DH to say no naps after 4.30 because I find that any nap she has (even five minutes in the car) means that she will not go to sleep again for 3 hours.

Casmie do you think that DS2 is getting into the habit of waking up following his illness/teething and then getting into the overtired so won't sleep cycle?

OP posts:
Casmie · 26/01/2005 11:00

...and now ds2 has managed to give himself a black eye.... sigh

He went from sitting to crawling, completely ignoring the hard toy that collided with the top of his eye. Cried a bit, nice big bumpy swelling, otherwise not bothered - just his mummy who's upset.

Casmie · 26/01/2005 11:02

Could be, Bozza. Just don't know. Could still be teeth. Feel like I'm just doing everything wrong at the moment.

Bozza · 26/01/2005 15:31

No you're not. You're just having a trying time. Stuff like the black eye happens and we beat ourselves up I know - was feeling quite guilty about DD scalding her hand on the custard but she's recovered.

spots · 26/01/2005 19:37

Hello all... Casmie and Susi, what is going on there? Susi is normally so cheerful and she feels down. Casmie says she 's doing everything wrong but we all know she's a fab mother. Oh girls... think it must be January blues... getting you both where it hurts. (Bozza out on the razz, however... we just expect this from her)

not to mention Egypt's DD sleeping through. What is this topsy turvy thread world I have entered?

I have been putting up shelves for my MIL (brown nose icon) and she looked after DD while I did so. DD showed classic separation anxiety constantly so it was rather wearing. Nice to be back.

Passed through Leuchars which reminded me of you MrsD. Thanks for checking in... CAT away!

Casmie · 26/01/2005 20:48

And the day goes from bad to worse... ds1 has now just fallen out of bed (quite a high bed with drawers under it due to tiny room and lack of storage) with an almighty crash and has a huge lump on his head to match his brother's.

Good job the health visitor isn't due round tomorrow, eh? Don't think she'd believe me especially after that comment about neglected children

kate79 · 26/01/2005 20:58

Egypt!! thank you thank you thank you {{{{{hugs}}}}} that link you sent me is great.

what on earth did i do before i found mumsnet???

cat82 · 26/01/2005 21:23

dammit! I wrote loads and then it dissapeared!

Breif summery...

I'm on my own tonight, which is why i'm still around past 7.00pm

Casmie- This horrid, horrid period will pass. To retireate what spots said, you are a fab mummy {{{hugs}}}

Egypt- At least she slept through 2 nights in a row, it will return

Bozza- Sounds like you had a fab night.

Susi- Sorry you're having a tough time as well hon, This morning sounded quite peacful, i hope it stayed that way.

Prufrock- Thankyou for the website, i'm going to attempt those recipes and kiera will eat them godammit!

Well, kiera is going through a phase of waking once or twice a night at around 9.30pm or 1.00am. I'm convinced it's teeth bless her, she is so snotty with it. Fortunatly medised seems to help.
She's been really good today though, she sits beutifuly on her own, and she ate a biscuit on her own as well, fanasticly. Sooo proud

IT'S MY BIRTHDAY TOMORROW!
and i am going for a meal in the OUTISDE WORLD!!!
I'm SO excited

Hope everyone's okay
xxxx

Bozza · 26/01/2005 21:29

Ooh Cat are you going anywhere nice?

Night out wasn't that exciting just the local you know but quite enjoyable. We do it every few weeks. Would actually really like to go out with DH just the two of us but its a real hassle getting a babysitter. Will be easier once I feel DD is able to stay away overnight.

Just done DS's birthday invitations. Only I've run out. Was rubbish at work today - just so tired that my brain couldn't function. Luckily was helped out by my colleague.

cat82 · 26/01/2005 21:38

Well dp bless him, wanted to take me out for a lovely meal in a resturant i've been wanting to go to FOREVER. But then last week my gran called and asked if she could come and take me out (kind of a tradtion we do every year) He didn't even mention wanting to take me out until tonight, because he didn't want me to feel bad
So he's taking me out for valentines instead and he's sitting kiera tomorrow

Not entirely sure where i'm going with my gran, but i just can't wait to eat out again!
Dp and i stocked up when i was pg, but i miss it sooooo much.

SusiS · 26/01/2005 21:39

dadaaaaa i am back - got loads of energy and guess it's my turn now to spread it!
so what did i miss?
yes cat, thanks! day was good had fun with ds and with dp too

casmie: oh no!!! both now! very unlucky! luckily children have got very hard heads, so no worries! still i can imagine it is quite a shock! - once they are in bed, get a hot cup of tea (with addition if necessary ), legs up and take a deeeeep breath! it will get better

hey spots! diy- woman! wanna come here and do a few chores? - i would do it myself but dp is never happy with what i do - but might just do it anyways; because if i wait for him it can take some time

hehe bozza, self induced or not! still a rough day - but at least you had fun

thanks egypt, much better!!! hope dd remembers the 2 great nights you had and copies them for the next 10 years!

cat: aren't they cute when the gnaw on their biscuit? well, besides the crumb trail they leave everywhere ...

so, that's me! i am off to bed - night night!

SusiS · 26/01/2005 21:43

spent some "quality time" with dp wink and he's off to work now! - lucas was ever so good today! laughing alot and he's doing this growling now! really low and very loud - like a biiiiiig bear
bum is getting better slowly; still bright red but not that widespread!
all he likes to do lately is me holding him and he jumping and jumping - he can do that for hourssss - i feel like an orang utan with extra long arms now!

but now i am really going

Bozza · 26/01/2005 21:52

Glad you're feeling cheerful again susi. You're normally so bright on here. And Cat IKWYM about missing eating out. What I miss is a nice, leisurely meal out with DH where we can have a cosy chat about all sorts. Have not been out just me and DH since last March.

OP posts:
cat82 · 26/01/2005 21:56

Bozza- i know exactly what you mean. We ate alot, and if we had stuff we needed to talk about we went out. I had this theory that it was always better to talk on neutral territory if it was likely to get ugly

It worked!

We used to go out for sunday lunch/dinner at midday and not leave the restarant until about 7.00 that evening...then on to a pub..... sigh
