Casmie · 24/01/2005 08:14

Ds1 woken up with a temperature today so he's not going in to nursery.

I feel it's going to be a long day today...

BTW, am I the only one with a baby who isn't babbling at all?

SusiS · 24/01/2005 09:14

oh no casmie, the other one now! having a hard time lately! (((((((hugs))))))) to you and a nice cup of hot chocolate

ehm, lucas is babbling all day
and screeching alot atm - very loud! wanna swap?

cat82 · 24/01/2005 10:22

Good morning

Oh Camsie (((hugs))) I do hope things improve for you soon!

Susi- I'm glad your night was better, and you managed to sleep

Linnet- I think dp would have had kiera jumping off the diving board at 2 months if i'd have let him He was very, very keen to take her as soon as possible. She looks a bit bemused by it all, but splashes around after a while

Helsy- Yep, dishwashers are fab! I've heard you can put bottles in and not sterilize as well, but i generaly do. I'm probably being way overprotective though, and will still be sterilizing her plates and cutlery when she's a teenager

Egypt- Honey, how was your night? I hope it was better xx

Has Any GF babies cut out their morning nap at all? According to the wisdom that is GF, when they start sleeping happily until closer to 8.00am (i am crow barring dp out of bed at 7.45am to huge protests that she isn't awake yet)
The can ususaly get through until their lunchtime nap. I'm not actualy sure that kiera could, but she is fussing a bit if i put her down in the morning much before 10.00am. Anyone getting the same?

We had a light spattering of snow this morning and i'm hoping it snows a bit heavier later on, so i can point it out to kiera, who hasn't really seen it yet

Take care everyone
xxxx

kate79 · 24/01/2005 10:51

morning ladies,
yes you can wash bottles and teats in the dishwasher and use without sterilizin' depending on which bottle you use. I do it all the time with avent bottle but only on the hottest setting.
check the web site of the bottle manufacture. send em' an emai make them do some work.

egypt · 24/01/2005 11:00

oooooo we had a light spattering too cat, but its gone now.

casmie, poor you. cuddle up together, if you can find a spare few mins and watch a dvd.

well, finally!! after the most horrendous night in the history of time sat night, dd went from until 515, drank 8 oz (was ravenous) and went through til after 8am. bless. ahhhhh. i was partly awake most of the night waiting for her to wake, mind, but i was great.

she is much better today. no, we dont really babble. just blow raspberried and screech most of the time. we have had quite a few mumumumumummmmmmms but mainly at mealtimes weirdly enough.

on the nap front cat, apart from yesterday, dd missed her afternoon naps for 2 days running. she just didnt want it. mind you, she slept badly that night. but yesterday, she had 45 in the morning and about 2 hours in the afternoon. didnt wake until way gone 4pm and slept really well. strange. but yes, i think her general need for naps is shortening. she is blowing raspberries q happily now and would normally be asleep at 11am. she woke around 8 so should be ready for one really. might take her for a walk.

egypt · 24/01/2005 11:06

that was meant to be 'went from 7 until 515'.....shall i type it in bold?! WENT FROM 7 UNTIL 515!!!!

egypt · 24/01/2005 11:06

oh, didnt work

cat82 · 24/01/2005 11:09

Lol Egypt so pleased you got a better night

Kiera cut out her afternoon nap ages ago, she just didn't seem to need it any more....so if the morning one went as well she'd be down to only 1 hour and a half a day...is that way to short?!

Casmie · 24/01/2005 11:14

cat from experience first time around, when you cut the morning nap, the lunchtime nap extends to about 2 hrs. You'll "know" when they're ready to cut the morning one - they'll spend most of their time fussing rather than sleeping...

cat82 · 24/01/2005 11:32

Thanks for that Camsie...I just don't know...Would another sign be a much shorter lunchtime nap? at the moment she sometimes doesn't even have an hour, and though she does get sleepy in the afternoon, she doesn't have another nap. Hmmmm....

Prufrock · 24/01/2005 11:39

Casmie is right cat - you will know. I knew when dd would spend her entire morning nap talking to herself.
Ds on the other hand can sleep all day. I really am SO lucky. I get him up when d has got me up, usually about 8am. He then goes back to sleep 2 hours later, usually for 1 1/2 hours, bt he has been known to do 3. And then another sleep 2-3 hours after that. And he still goes down without a murmer at 8pm.
He is still v. poorly though - not got a temp anymore but is producing copious amounts of clear snot, and he detests having his nose wiped. Poor dear.

It snowed quite a lot overnight here, and we got caught in a blizzard on the way back from taking dd to nursery. Poor DS was wrapped up so only his nose and eyes were showing, but his scarf and coat had a layer of snow on by the time we got in.

Cat - if Kiera likes the jar texture try doing stuff that will approximate that. So try lentils (just fry an onion and then boil red lentils with some water) or you could get quite close to the lovely organix spaghetti with mozzarella jar by frying some mince and onions, then covering with milk and simmering until absorbed (it makes the meat far less gritty) and then adding a blended tim of tomatoes or some passata and some cooked pasta shapes.

Prufrock · 24/01/2005 11:56

Oh and ds doesn't really babble. Lots of screeches, but the only consonant souns he can do is "b" and he does just purse his lips and say "ber" not baba or anything

egypt · 24/01/2005 13:03

i think you should write a cook book prufrock! you sounds amazing

right, in the cupboard i have a butternut squash, onions, red lentils, garlic, what can i do with that? ready steady.......................

dd's morning nap was just 45 mins again. she was happily wide awake and beaming when she called for me. only trouble with us is she doesnt nap in her cot without crying for ages..and then i give in anyway, so we always go out for a walk. i'm wondering if i'm MAKING her go to sleep by doing that or if she does need it. i suppose she wouldnt sleep even if walked unless she needed to. but the days we go to babygroup, she doesnt nap until midday. then she's desperate for another one late afternoon. sometimes miss that one altogether.

Judd · 24/01/2005 14:15

Cat - Organix actually do a cookbook which gives you the recipes for the stuff that is in their jars. (always thought that was a good idea).
Want to add some stuff about naps as well but DH is working from home today and needs the computer. Will have to do it later (but I wouldn't wait with bated breath for huge insights!)

kate79 · 24/01/2005 22:36

Egypt, a bit late but-
Finn loves red lentils i wash them and add water just a bit more than can cover them fry an onion put that in a bit of tomatoe puree and little cunks ( baby bite sized)of whatever veg i've got cook for 20 mins unitl water all gone. we call it sloppy lentils it's lovely blend it somtime if i can be botherd but Finn eats it when not blended and me and DH have it too with new potatoes.

SusiS · 25/01/2005 08:20

oh my, what a day! well, this usually so cheery woman is not so cheery atm! - had a major cry yday and a looooong talk with dp! turns out he's having a tough time too so he can't really support me right now; what we normally do when someone's down the other one helps out! but hohum, can only get better! didn't sleep much though and was wide awake by 5am - ds didn't wake till 7! - dead tired now! but ds is calling for entertainment; put him in front of telly

Casmie · 25/01/2005 09:00

Bit of a scary night with ds1's temperature touching 40C at one point and then ds2 waking up inconsolable (teeth? cold? just thought he'd wreck even more of his parents sleep?) at 3am for an hour or so.

Am absolutely knackered today and both kids are now perfectly well and chirpy, just leaving mummy to mumble into her cup of tea and prop her eyes open...

Casmie · 25/01/2005 09:01

Susi, sorry to hear that you're both having a rough time of it. Anything I/we can help with?

SusiS · 25/01/2005 09:10

well, if you could fill up our account, make my friends contact us, talk to dp's boss to make his job easier, install a new heating and a new bathroom and send lots of energy this way - then you can

Bozza · 25/01/2005 09:25

Sorry to hear you are having such a bad time Susi and Casmie. Casmie sounds like you will just have to have one of those "get through it" days relying on TV and junk food. Or would taking them to soft play and letting them get exercise while you sit back and have a caffeine hit help?Hopefully if both DSs are on the mend things should get back on an even keel soon.

Susi - sorry to hear you are down. I suppose being away from your family you rely on DP for support a lot. We will listen if that helps.

I haven't got a thermometer. Am I a bad mummy? Did have a cheapy stick on the forehead one but think we left it in the caravan when DD had chicken pox.

OP posts:
SusiS · 25/01/2005 09:41

you might be right bozza; having spent 3 weeks with my family maybe made me realise i am quite alone over here! but hey, i will kick my friends bums and it won't be pretty - well, if i ever find the energy to do so!

ohhh casmie! it's not getting better for you, does it! 40 is scary! and the second one as well

hope both discover soon how to fight those bad virusmonsters!

cat82 · 25/01/2005 10:02

Oh susi and Casmie {{{hugs}}}

I wish i lived closer so i could come and help you both. If i could drive, i'd come and see you like a shot!

Judd- What a fab idea about the recipies with the organix jars, i'm keeping my eyes open for them.

Well, i'm being brave today and keeping kiera up until lunch, so far she's half an hour over her nap time, and doesn't seem sleepy yet. She's also in quite a good mood, so i'm hoping i've done the right thing. Poor thing has a huuuuuge lump in her gum next to her tooth, i'm 100% sure it's another one fighting it's way through but so far she's handling it like a pro

I'm doing some cleaning today sigh My Gran is coming on Thursday which i'm really excited about as we're very close (and she spoils me ) But, despite the fact my house isn't particularly dirty/untidy i feel like i have to clean for a week before her arrival....

Hope everyone's okay
xxxx

Casmie · 25/01/2005 12:10

Susi: can't do anything like that I'm afraid. Can offer virtual hugs and a large virtual glass of wine if that helps?!

Bozza: ds1 is perfectly fine this morning - you'd never know he'd been ill. Quite happily skipped off to nursery .

And to be honest, I think thermometers are a bit of a waste of money - the temperature only panics you . I was perfectly well aware that he was bloody hot and had a fever (was shivering)!!

Actually, the big advantage of a three year old having a very high temperature is that he can tell you where it hurts, how he feels, if he's hot or cold, whether his neck is stiff or the light hurts his eyes. Ds1 was perfectly conversant and had none of the "get him down to the A&E NOW" sort of symptoms so we just rode it out with lots of calpol/nurofen/TLC. Also had the advantage that we were 99.9% certain it was the same bug ds2 had so knew it would be short lived.

Knackered today though!

Bozza · 25/01/2005 13:01

I've sort of been working on the principle of just touching their foreheads Casmie. And I really know what you mean about 3yo being able to tell you their symptoms although have to say mine does sometimes display a bit of imagination on that front. Think he is still young enough for me to work out which is genuine (ie he is not a very good liar yet!).

Have cut DD down to just one bottle of milk (plus two breastfeeds) as of yesterday. She was becoming less interested in the mid-morning bottle. And the good news is that she's started drinking water from a sippy cup. So she had a drink and some bread/philadelphia for a mid-am snack yesterday and I have asked nursery to do the same today.

Prufrock · 25/01/2005 13:12

You poor things. Ds is semi-recovered now, but has given it to me. Thank God he sleeps through illness though.

DD went through this same stage of having one nasty bug after another and I took her to a homeopath who gave her something to boost her immune response. I know I go on about this, but she hasn't been seriously ill since.

Cat (and everybody else) - if you go to www.babyorganix.co.uk you can get free coupons sent to you, and a magazine with lots of the recipes - which are also on the site
