i think when you can justify it to them, ie: him being ill and you giving him more cheese yougurt to substitue, they tend to agree its fine.

dd on the other hand has drank approx 32 oz in the last 24 hours. eeeek. now i would get told off for that! not q sure whats going on. its usually only about 20. she refused her tea last night so drank 8oz at bedtime then at 1am she was q starved. well prb not but that was my interpretation. she drank 8 more! then at 5 she wouldnt go back to sleep after waking again and got angry with me for giving her just water. so i gave her 3oz more. i know, she doesnt need it. but its juts so much easier! ahem....can see that sleep association prob lurking its ugly head again.

Judd · 18/02/2005 19:37

DS rolled over this evening! Sheer poetry in motion as 31lb of baby lumbered arse to tit (IYSWIM). He was so pleased with himself he did it over and over again until I had to grapple him down to put on his sleepsuit. So that's one tick on the HV checklist at any rate

spots · 18/02/2005 20:37

Excellent Judd! these moments need a soundtrack and slo mo. I had a misty moment with DD: we shared a joke tonight. She was standing up in the cot (holding on! she pulls herself up a lot) and I was prodding and tickling her. She turned to one side to look out the window and I went to kiss her cheek (because it is so chubby and sticks out a mile when she is in three quarters profile) and she turned back round so I kissed inside her open mouth ! mother and daughter chuckled together in true Vaseline soft focus style.

DD was so tired tho. Five hours was a bit much to be at the c/minders' I think. She hardly slept there.

Susi, how is your signing going? do you use it in everyday life?

helsy · 18/02/2005 21:33

Hello - welcome Bramble. I have two girls, one 5 and one May baby. She is nowhere near crawling but neither was dd1 until 11 months, and she's fine.

Just back fom WONDERFUL couple of days away for DH's 40th - one night in London and another in Chester - first time we've had more than a day alone together since our honeymoon in June 2002! Almost messed it up completely - we got into a cab at Chester station, DH thought we were going to my mum's to pick the kids up and when I announced that I had arranged as an extra birthday surprise that we were going to have a lovely meal out in Chester and stay in a hotel, he started crying and said he wanted to see his girls! Luckily, that lasted about two minutes .
Egypt, sorry to hear about your panic.
Prufrock, the house looks FAB (you know this, clearly).

Bozza · 18/02/2005 22:02

Helsy glad you had a lovely time. Am a little bit but have looked after my friend's little boy for 3 hours this afternoon so think I am working towards an evening's baby sitting in return. I'm a real wuss about putting people out and asking them to baby sit.

Judd you really did make me LOL with your game. Wish you'd told me about it on one of the "due in May" threads and I might have made use of it! Anyway its nice that you have cheered me up because I have fallen out with DH tonight. We started off niggling because DS's friend was here and they had made a mess in his bedroom (not too bad IMO) and then I said that I wished he hadn't come home (ie because there would be less tension and DS and I could tidy up after friend went home). In response to this he went on about "its my house and its a shit tip when I come home". Only of course the kids were there so I had to bite my lip and go tidy DS's bedroom. When really I wanted to fume about whose house it is and whether he would prefer me not to cook a meal, do the washing/drying x2, take both kids swimming, earn babysitting brownie points, bake two cakes with DS - all of which I have done today - just so as the house (which is really not that bad) could be spotless.

Think I have gone into too much detail there.....

oh bozza, no fun!!! i hope a day later it has settled down again. - men
they really think we have a lovely easy life sitting home all day drinking tea!

maybe you should try the toy game on you dh

helsy · 19/02/2005 10:03

That's the sentence I use the most in our house - "I've been sitting on my a**e drinking coffee, THAT'S why I asked you to put the bin out/feed the cat/hoover." And I wonder why dd1's word of the day last week was "sarcastic".
Dd2 is v snotty but slept until 5.
We are all going to a bumps and babies family afternoon at the village hall today, and it's a lovely day.
I counted 15 unopened packing boxes in the house. We moved a month ago!

sarahplus2 · 19/02/2005 10:40

hi.just joined up my sophie was born may 04. hope one of you can help, shes gone over two centile lines {27lbs} and the hv wants her checked for growth hormone problems. her height is just right for her weight i think shes going to be tall thats all. the hv has worried me though, help?

SusiS · 19/02/2005 10:51

welcome sarah!!!
see; that's why i don't go to see my hv anymore!
my ds is height and weightwise somewhere 100 centile (or above ) - and i don't see anything wrong with him!

i guess you are the best judge by now to see that!!! unless of course she has worried you - then it might be worth it getting it checked out.

sarahplus2 · 19/02/2005 11:08

thanks susiS, when i look at her i see a chubby healthy bubba who rolls and crawls all over the place, i think im just a worry mum who takes too much notice of what hv says, i should know better!

Casmie · 19/02/2005 12:08

helsy - we're still working through boxes in the garage left over from a year and a half ago - I think only 15 is doing well!!!

egypt · 19/02/2005 14:12

welcome sarahplus2, IGNORE hv, we do. they talk drivvle all day and are only there to make you panic. (sorry any hv's, i am sure YOU are great )

dd is poorly. bless her. i havent taken her temp but she is a floppy doll today. she doesnt feel hot. dh got up with her today, she wouldnt drink much milk, no breakfast, had a little sleep then refused to eat ANYTHING for lunch, including favourite scrambled eggs. took her for a drive and she slept a bit, but when she wasnt she was just all sleepy and blergh. came home. gave her a bottle which she downed and put her immediately to bed again! thats 3 sleeps and its only 2pm. she just went out like a light. or a floppy balloon. bless her.

dh has gone off on his bike 'it's such a nice day'. and i am doing ironing. hmm, something wrong there.

well, my dh is the same. he came home last night and tutted about the most insignificant things being out of place when i had run around like a blue-arsed fly tidying, feeding, changing, ironing......you know the routine. managed to get tea on whilst feeding dd but its never enough. he did buy indian, but then i had already made a shepherds' pie. oh my life

cat82 · 19/02/2005 14:51

sigh I have had a crap couple of days. Kiera is just constantly throwing food tanturms now. Grabbing the spoon, hitting it away, kicking her legs so they block the spoon, wriggling down her chair and howling. I think i've felt the lowest i've been since starting the ads
She still hasn't put on any weight and is only just 17lbs, i'm really not sure what to do any more.

Egypt- I hope dd feels better soon. I'll text you soon, i got your cat the other day.

Welcome Sarah

Helsy- Glad you had a good time away, sounds womderful!

Spots and Judd- Extremly of you soft focus moments (and very pleased for you both obviously ) Kiera just doesn't seem to like me!

There is still a risk of cot death even now isn't there? The reason i ask is that Kiera has taken to sleeping on her front. The second i put her in the cot she rolls over and i'm a little concerned, probably pointlessly as there isn't alot i can do about it! We have the breathing monitor, so that helps put my mind at rest a bit.
dp has finished cutting all the kitchen tiles and laying the few remaining ones today, after that it's just a small amount of grouting and bingo! Looks lovely.

Take care everyone
xx

egypt · 19/02/2005 21:09

oh dear cat,

cot death risk is minimal. if she can lift her head i think you are safe. one of the babies took to sleeping on her front at about 3 months, at clinic. the hv told her to just let her, it was the only way they could get any sleep. shes fine.

dd isnt. took her to the children's hosp today after a pointless trip to casualty. she developed a rash all over her body and was burning up. she hollered the house down at 4 ish and hadnt eaten anything all day. her temp was 39.4 at one point, but have come to conclusion that digital ear thermometer is crap as even taking her temp a few times in space of few mins it ranged from 37- 39. at the hosp it was 37.5. they said it is a viral infection. she has swollen tonsels and prob a sore throat. bless her heart. despite this she just sat on the big bed in the hospital playing with their toys. they gave her some calpol and ibuprofen liquid which she actually likes the taste of, thank god.

asleep now.

she had 5 sleeps today!

cat, i'll phone or text you once have heard from you. you sound so down. dont stress about the food thing. they go through these phases. give her a spoon at the same time, it helps those moments with us. and if she doesnt want it, leave it. she wont waste away. she'll prob learn soon enough that messing = no food! game over.
xxxxxxx lots of love xxxxxxxx

spots · 20/02/2005 09:25

Egypt, poor dd. hope she feels better soon. Cat, please don't stress. My DD always sleeps on her front. They are really low risk for cot death now, sounds like you are feeling fragile and bound to worry about stuff but don't let that be an extra worry. Also don't get stressed about food. You know we have that one in our household too and I find if DD is off her food she generally has a reason. The past two times she's been sickening for something and I didn't know it. Make sure she drinks, pref. milk, and get multivitamin drops for babies as a standby.

Judd I missed your game! shall try and find it...

Bozza this scenario is familiar. Fortunately DH is messier than me and doesn't complain, but who tidies up most of the mess he leaves??? It's an absolute drag. I want to give your DH a dressing down; may I?

Susi do tell me about the signing, I really am curious!

Welcome to Sarah...

oh... and we are well! DD waved yesterday, with her whole arm. V. sweet. We had visitors and they were leaving, and DD was so proud of herself one minute and then realised the visitors were actually going and her litle face crumpled in disappointment.

DH online doing application form so my access today is limited, boooooo.

SusiS · 20/02/2005 10:00

spots: not sure if there is any progress yet! but we were a bit lazy over the last month.
but i do love the classes because lucas gets to see other babies and can "play" with them. and he does love music alot!
basically we should do only 2 signs at a time. we are doing "milk" and "food" - but the point is that i think he reacts more to the spoken word than the actual sign. and no signing from his side yet. they say it takes about 2 months to learn for them and you should start about 6 months (that's when they actually can put 2 and 2 together) - i am certain he understands the spoken word "food" but not sure about the sign; might have to try that more often! - atm we try to use more signs; just sign along when you speak to him; when you point out things to him; no idea if that's any better though

SusiS · 20/02/2005 10:02

cat: don't worry about kiera not eating! they know what they need and if she's ready for it she'll start eating again. try not to make a big thing out of it. just keep offering!
and also i don't think there is any danger for her sleeping on her front!! she is old enough now

helsy · 20/02/2005 21:54

Where exactly did today go? Woke up with lots of plans, lovely sunny day, seem to have done very little and now it's quarter to ten and I have yet to iron uniform and work clothes!
Dd2 has been trying to crawl but I'm in no rush. Dd1 didn't walk until nearly 18 months and she's fine. She just spoke really early.
I'm fed up as I'm back at work tomorrow. Dd2 woke up last night (has a cold AGAIN) and came in with us but she can't do that tonight as I won't wake up tomorrow if she does.
Cat, Dd2 sleeps on her side as if she's about to tilt over on to her front and sometimes she does, but I think it's more ok now they're older.

spots · 21/02/2005 09:35

Thanks for that Susi... I read an article on signing, you know, giving it the big sell, and I was starting to wish I'd done it. But I know I would be lazy too!

coldcoldcold today; snow outside.

DD is as mobile as if she were crawling I think (or am I kidding myself on that score?) She hauls her body along and rolls, and pitches.

cat82 · 21/02/2005 10:28

Hi everyone,

Kiera is napping so i thought i'd snatch 5 mins to catch up!

Thanks for the reassurences about sleeping on her front guys.

Spots- Waving sounds really sweet

Egypt- I'll text you today, i know i don't have much credit though, so don't be offended if i suddenly don't reply to you!
You poor thing, the trip to the hospital sounds awful. Must have been sooooooo frightening. I hope she's feeling better now.

Susi- How are you feeling? Is the tiredness easing off a little?

Well i'm off to the hospital this afternoon, my appointment for the knee specialist has finaly come through. Dp is coming home early so i don't have the added stress of dragging poor kiera along and waiting in a hospital for hours, as it's bound to be.
I'm trying to drag myself out of what seems to be a kind of secondary depression and repeatidly telling myself to get a grip!!

Take care everyone
xxx

egypt · 21/02/2005 13:14

hope your hosp visit goes ok cat. and that you are feeling better in yourself soon. thanks for texting me. so ring if you need to also.

been back to the docs today, dd woke with a burning body and more rash on her face this time. he still says its viral and nothing to worry about just give her calpol. need to get shares in the stuff. she is grizzly, isnt eating much but unfortunately hasnt done her 3 hour nap stint like yesterday....today when i really need it. she was awake most of last night.

spots · 21/02/2005 15:26

Poor you Egypt. Poor DD. Virtual calpol hugs to you both. {{{}}}

Cat, I'd forgotten about your knee. Aren't you stoic, waiting all this time. Hope it goes well with the specialist.

I am bored today, wish we could all have a cup of coffee. The weather is so crap we can't go out for a walk. And I am imagining all the other mums in town collected together in someone's cosy and immaculate home eating french fancies and gossiping without me.

Do we know how our Libb is getting on?

Bozza, how's the nephew?

SusiS · 21/02/2005 15:36

just came back from baby signing! was fun as usual - just getting quite hard to do all those walk along songs and carrying lucas!! - he's sooooo heavy! - but he plays very nicely with the other kids and just loves it!! - and after 30min singing/signing we get something to drink, cookies and have a nice chat grins - sometimes even up to an hour wink - but the instructor is really nice - we came back home and lucas went to bed (exhausted) - i had my lunch and am going to have some icream in front of the tv!
