Here's a new thread especially for Kate79.

(she couldn't access the old one).

Helsy - any news on your e-bay thingy? My ds is not crawling either - won't even sit up by himself (as in GET up as opposed to STAY up)! Also - 2 of my friends think my sons fontanelle is big for his age - I reckon about the size of an egg opening now - how's this in comparison to everyone else?

helsy · 14/02/2005 22:58

GG, Ebay isn't me . Don't know how big dd2's fontanelle is as it makes me sick just to look at it pulsing away, but I'm sure it's still as big as an egg.

Casmie · 14/02/2005 23:27

Varnish should be fine if it's a child specific piece of furniture and only 5 years old (i.e. should be non-toxic by law). Extra roughage

Ds2 still isn't babbling, and I keep telling myself I'm not worried and that ds1 didn't until 10 mths... but sodding HV is arriving next week to check he's babbling so I'm saying "DADADADA" and "MAMAMAMA" frequently to try and coach him... isn't working

Fontanelle? Dunno - noticed he still had one pulsing today. No idea what size it was though.

goreousgirl · 14/02/2005 23:54

OK feel better re fontanelle now - sorry Helsy must be another name sake!

spots · 15/02/2005 09:11

yes I think there is a helsi and a helsy! who'd a thunk it...

Casmie, you seem to see a lot more of your hv than we do here...? am sure all of us could list the th9ings our babies are not doing yet... DD still doesn't clap or wave despite my best efforts to teach her. If we all ought to worry then this thread might get a little bit feverish!

The safe things to chew business is a bind. DD also gnaws with her bottome ones and scrapes a patch in anything she can. Stickers is always a fave, with horrible inky stuff and grime too prob.

must go, attempting running group this am.

Casmie · 15/02/2005 10:12

spots - silly moo came for a 9 month check at 8 months old then wondered why he wasn't doing anything on her tick sheet [insert rolls eyes emoticon here] - so she rebooked an appointment for 9.5 months.

Thing is, I think he's doing fine - they all do things at their own pace and have their own area of expertise. We're just jumping through hoops for the HV

SusiS · 15/02/2005 10:36

awww casmie, don't let them get to you! i am just picturing you jumping through that loop - was it one with fire??? did you get a treat???

as you said; they all have their own time to reach their "milestones" - maybe some are just too clever to be bothered

cat82 · 15/02/2005 10:46

Hi everyone

Nothing much to report at the mo! Kiera is still nowhere near crawling, her appitite is really pitiful and i'm tearing my hair out but nothing new there but she's talking away with dada and the occasional mama. She's copying brrrr noises and bruuuuuum noises as well so i'm pleased there. I have no idea if she has any upper teeth or not! I spotted a white ulcerish patch on her top gum a few days ago and it's dissapeared now, but she won't let me go anywhere near the top half of her mouth! I can't calgel, brush or touch the top half of her mouth at all. The bottom half no problem, she seems to even like having them cleaned!

Spots- Kiera doesn't wave or clap either and she looks at me like i'm a nutcase when i stand in front of her waving manicaly and going "hello kiera, hello!" in a silly high pitched voice i didn't even know i could do

Prufrock House sounds gorgeous! Did you get myt email? June sounds brill for a meet up.

Libb- Did you get my text? Hope you're okay hon xx

Oh and Spots- Yep i get the same from dp "if you'd have let me know you needed help i would've helped" grrrr, but generaly when that happens he spends the next week or so doing stuff without being told.

Better go kiera is calling for me....

Oooh! before i forget does anyone know if the Ashton and Parson infant powders are the right things to get for numbing the gums or is it called something different? and where oh where can i get hold of them?!

Lots of love
Cat xx

egypt · 15/02/2005 12:53

yes ashton and parsons cat, get them from boots for definite. just remembered i need to cat you with my mob no!

hooray, i am online....but not broadband. AAAAARRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHH. sodding thing.

all babies are so different in their development. at baby group today there was an 8 month old only just sitting and a 7 month old standing by herself. yes she stands up by herself, balances for a bit then buggers over. very amusing especially as she's so small.

dd can now crawl. eeeek. she hasnt quite mustered up the incentive to do it as and when but does comply quite quickly when a bunch of keys of being dangled in her face. a bit like the donkey with the carrot. bless. amusing. she can sit herself up from lying on her front but put her on her back and she stuck there for the duration. some saving grace. she waved a few days ago and then with 2 hands when i did it. but its a kind of scrunch your finger up and open them again wave, like squeezing boobs. not a flapping of arms wave. however, has decided not to bother doing it since then. she says mamamamammama all the time and few babababas, hardly any dadadas and lots of raspberries.

i feel a bit better now, but know i'll feel ick again in a few hours......after i've taken todays pill. its that, 'we think' which has been making me feel ill. new combined pill which obv doesnt agree with me. been to docs and am going back on original one i used to be on, but have to finish this month first. ugh.

oh and dont remember who was asking about cups but the heinx baby basics bup is fantastic. nice soft handles and easy to drink. dd does it by herself, picks it up too. and it them converts into a big girl cup if you take the top off and place a lip type thing on the top so they can drink out of it like a normal cup but it wont spill everywhere. brill. will find a link for you.

cat, your dp sounds fantastic......i think he wins mumsnet maybabies dp/dh award of the year.

Judd · 15/02/2005 13:05

Hello, just dashing on here in a lull (DH is making my dinner). We are still in the throes of bronchiolitis - it is very phlegmy, very cough-y, and very annoying at 4am! So, until I have something more positive to talk about..I think I'll stay away.
Oh yes, my one piece of wisdom - Anbesol is also good for gum numbing. It's a liquid which has a local anaesthetic in it and in our Tescos, you have to ask for it from behind the counter.

Bozza · 15/02/2005 16:21

Judd sorry to hear about the bronchiolitis still ongoing. Took 0.7 (thats because being pro-rata'ed I get a funny amount) of a day off work today and took DD to get weighed. Clinic supposed to start at 10.30 but nobody emerged for red books until nearly 11. Just what I want to do - spend my holiday in a doctor's surgery full of ill, probably contagious people. And then they didn't even convert the weight into pounds for this old dinasour. DD, OTOH, loved it showing off to all the old dears. Got her some toys to play with but she was far more interested in playing with her clothes. Actually put her jumper over my face to play peek-a-boo. So cute and proud mummy moment.

Then went to Meadowhall to buy DS's birthday pressies. He's got to an age where I can't sneakily buy them while he is with me! Am now at work but can't summons up the enthusiasm when I'm only here for 2.25 hours.

Bozza · 15/02/2005 16:33

Oh and another thing. DH and I got each other exactly the same valentines cards . Purple with pink hearts - £2.48 from Asda.

What does this say about us? Sweet or sad?

OP posts:
Libb · 15/02/2005 17:08

Cat, I will text you back I promise! to the new number right? I am due to take some days off and I intend show off DS at work so would you like to meet up? we could do lunch?

I am up for a meet up in June (my birthday is on the 16th so will have to check dates nearer the time) have we decided a possible venue yet?

DS can sit up well enough but not much in the way of proper crawling - he gets the legs right but forgets to put his arms out - so he just look like he is scraping his chin along the floor.

Lots of love, xxx

Prufrock · 15/02/2005 17:19

well we went to see the house today - dh loved it so put an offer in (which got refused, but it's started the ball rolling - we will up it in a few days) It's here if anyone wants to see it - search new this week and it's the top one.

DS can now wave as well, and stillloves hitting the side of his face. He says lots of baba and dada, but no mama as yet.

Nelseons teetha are quite good as well for gums - we call the powders "babycoke"

Bozza · 16/02/2005 11:15

Love the house Prufrock.

prufrock: house

oh, i just watched a program on disc.health with the "founders of mumsnet" - they used all the tips from their website to help mums "in need"

spots · 16/02/2005 14:03

Coo Prufrock, bet that's got a quality kitchen sink! Keep us posted... will have fingers crossed for you.

I am at dad's and dd asleep upstairs in anest of blankets. She is being brilliant at the moment, so sociable and affectionate. You can just see her making sense of the world, and I love how she recognizes words. I said to dad she knew the word 'dog' and she looked all around for the dog. She also responds to 'train' and 'bus' (very important words in our lives as I don't drive) and everyday things like 'nappy' and 'water' and 'more'. i would almost let myself believe she meant 'mama' when she said it now... hearing dh give her her breakfast, she said 'mamama' when she was finished, which is when dh normally brings her through to me. oh I don't know.

egypt · 16/02/2005 16:25

awww spots, i dont know if dd knows any meanings tbh. she says mamama but i doubt she knows it means me. she doesnt really look around for things when they are mentioned either, but not sure what we have that she would look for anyway, apart from dad.

I AM ONLINE VIA BROADBAND [GRIN]!!!!!!! it is a shock to my system, soooooooo fast.

prufrock, love the house you lucky minx.

had a bit of a panic today. this morning i was getting dressed with dd on the floor of the bedroom. she pulled over the bin which was practically empty apart from a few bits of cotton wool and my hair from the brush. anyway, picked it up and put stuff back in but dd was retching and coughing like something was stuck in her throat. i couldnt see anything and wondered if she swallowed some hair as she had some of my hair on her. anwyay,,went to my friends and all morning she was tetchy and crying and doing this reflux gagging again. gave her a drink but couldnt see anything. she looked like she was certainly chewing on something though. came home, she slept in the car, gave her her dinner which she ate lots of. come mid afternoon she would not drink her milk. was still doing this retching thing! surely she must have swallowed whatever it was with her dinner but when i held her up to the light i could finally see a little bit of silver foil stuck on the roof of her mouth! and i mean STUCK. it was like the little circle on a blister pack of tablets. i panicked. couldnt get it out and rushed to the neigbours. they both held her down whilst i rummaged and finally got it out. bless her heart. she was screaming. it was the little bit you pick off the top of a new bottle of foundation. god. how do they manage to do it?! it was scary.

phew....anyway, sorry.

i have broadband!

Casmie · 16/02/2005 16:35

egypt - how scary! Glad you got it out safely.

I'm having quite a mellow chilled out half term actually, despite all the illnesses! Ds1 and my relationship had been a bit strained lately (he'd got really argumentative and deliberately annoying) - I think in retrospect he was getting very tired at nursery, plus the illnesses meant he was in a permanent bad mood.

I was dreading half term in terms of entertaining them, but they really have entertained themselves. Ds1 has been really chatty and friendly and been happy to follow me around and "help" with chores, and as a result I've found it easier to slow down and spend some time really playing with him and ds2. It's been lovely.

Prufrock · 16/02/2005 17:08

Oh Egypt how frightening. But in a way your own fault for being together enough to not only use foundation but buy a new one

Libb · 16/02/2005 17:14

Perhaps it was her DH's foundation? Seriously Egypt, glad she was okay!

egypt · 16/02/2005 17:23

actually, it's been bugging me cos i knew that foundation was too old to have to foil still in the bin....but as for frequency of emptying bins.......it was the toothpaste! i think

cat82 · 16/02/2005 20:30

Evening all

We had a lovely day today! We went to the cinema and watched "The Increadibles" which was fab. Kiera was totaly enthralled by the big screen (apart from when she fell asleep for 40 mins, i swear that child could sleep through a nuclear explosion) I felt like a "normal" person doing "normal" things and i swear i've felt light and floaty all day Then we went and kiera had her picture taken for a cute baby competion, which of course she will win

Egypt- Blimey honey how frightening for you {{{hugs}}} at least dd is okay. I got your cat and will text you soon.

Casmie- Glad your half term isn't going too badly despite poorlyness. How are you all now?

Prufrock- Beauuuuuuuutiful house, very best of luck!

Libb- Lunch would be great! Let me know when you're free. I sent you another text, but not convinced it went through properly. Look forward to hearing from you soon

Bozza- I think it's sweet you and dh got the same cards!

Judd- Hope ds is feeling better now.

I got the boots equivelent of Nelsons teetha granuals (Casmie, the main ingredient is Chamomilla- hurrah!) and Kiera likes it it seems. Opened her mouth wide for the satchet

Love to all
xx

brambles · 16/02/2005 20:33

can i join you girls my little one was born may 04
have a couple of questions are your little ones crawling mine is just not interested the hv has booked an appointment for him with the child development centre i wasnt to worried about it but he said he should be crawling!!!

cat82 · 16/02/2005 20:37

Brambles hi there and welcome

DD (Kiera) isn't crawling either, she was 9months on the 13 of Feb, and is absolutly NOT interested. When we went for her 8 month check (at 9 months, go figure) The doc wasn't worried at all. I never crawled either apparently, just went right from sitting to walking.

Try not to worry!
Hope this helps
