FT - make him pay by sleeping in until lunchtime for the next 2 days!!! He'll not have to only cope with breakfast but taking care of Alex for half the day!! Revenge is sweet!

Did you guys know that you could take babies to the cinema???????

FloriaTosca · 10/08/2008 21:44

Thanks girls...all ideas have been filed for future use
Mine; Yes. Some cinemas have mother & baby viewings of the big hits....probably realising how many bored mothers cant get out at night or are concerned their babies will spoil someone elses viewing..sadly none of my locals offer the service Hope you find one near you that does.

hi everyone

ft-Alex is so clever, can't wait to see him at the meet up, and everyone else of course! I hpe you are having a lie in as i write!

Dal-hope dylan is feeling better.

WWAJC-i've not been able to find it, can't you pretty please put a link up for me?

muppet-wow at the excercising! and awwww at Ollie

Mine-glad you got the answers on the other thread.

well, we went camping on Sat night, we where meant to go on thurs and/or Friday also, but me and Richie had a bit of a falling out( due to my other thread, and him being unthoughtful towards me) and also my friend that was attacked being a bit delicate and i was reluctant to go too far. anyway, it rained all night and day, so we got wet, i had taken Shannon too and struggled to keep her warm enough without making her too hot, I was so glad to get home yesterday. dd1 had also been away with her dad for the weekend and came back absolutely shattered and crying, and then i was up 8 times in the night with Shannon, I just don't know whats wrong with her, she just keeps waking up every night. would somebody be able to send me the sleep document please ( j20baby at yahoo . co . uk)

hope eveyone is ok, choc, alice???? how are you?

Dalrymps · 11/08/2008 11:47

Hey everyone,
Not really sure how much better Dylan is, he's about the same but the vomiting is getting less and seems to have been replaced by diarrhoea. He's never been sick more than once a day all the time he's been i'll and has been taking his milk fine but swill still only eat breakfast. He has still got his slight temperature but the calpol seems to be controlling that. He has green diarrhoea this morning, nice. I called nhs direct again and they were just as useless as last time, told me nothing I didn't already know, they're usually so good when I use them too anyway, they just told me to ring my hv and ask her if I was concerned about the green poo so I did.
The hv said not to worry and that the poo changing colour didn't really mean anything other thatn that he was a bit under the weather. I said I was worried that he'd lose weight as he's been like this for a week now, she said it's good he's tkaing his milk and his breakfast and he'll put any weight he loses back on quikly as soon as he's better so not to worry.
So i'm still trying to get a wee sample to take to the docs to rule out a urinary infection but he keeps just not weeing or pooing on the collection pad so I had to send fil to get another 2 pads from the docs so I can try again, I think it's more likely to be a tummy bug with the poo though.
I can't go anywhere today either as I seem to have pulle dsomething in my leg and everytime I try to walk I get a cramp like feeling all down the side of my leg and across the bottom of my foot so i'm hobbling round the house like an old lady.
Ok well thats my rant/moan over for now.
Hope you're all ok, be back later on x

LisaLessLumpy · 11/08/2008 20:29

J20 - sorry your camping didn't go to plan, bloody weather

Dal - Hope Dylan gets better soon, it is worrying though, I was worried when Ben had his 10 day bout of throwing up but that was at least three times a day, he lost just over a pound in weight in a week, but he soon put it all back on as soon as he was better. They are quite prone to these sickness bugs though so try not to worry too much. The time to worry is if they don't drink or eat anything and get dehydrated.

Well Ben has now mastered the crawling forwards, the past two days he has done one or two knees forward with hands but would then collapse onto his tummy, as of this afternoon he has gone across the room on all fours. Now its time to put the stair gates up

Dalrymps · 11/08/2008 21:04

LLL - thanks for asking, he seems a litle bit better this evening, has had some apricot apple and pear with vanilla at tea time and little bit of babyrice and banana at lunchtime. He also had some of our mashed potato at tea time too . Hopefully he's over the worst of it. Also managed to get a wee sample so fil has dropped that of at the docs for me too.
Wow at Ben learning to crawl so quick! Dylan is still comando crawling, hence the carpet burns on his elbows .

Dalrymps · 12/08/2008 09:13

Morning everyone,

Dylan seems a little happier today and wasn't sick yesterday so i'm hoping he's turned a corner, doesn't seem to have a temperature either

J20 - the camping trip sounds a bit cold and wet, bet you're glad to be back on your own bed! Sorry you had a falling out with your new man, suppose thats bound to happen when his ex is causing so much bother, how annoying for you both .

Mine - Yeah I knew about being able to take babies to the cinema, I remember going to see a film many moons ago in newcastle and there was an advert about it before the film. I don't think the cinema in Berwick will do that though, it's really small and crap, probably only just showing Titanic now!

Well, dh and I managed a cleaning and tidying spree at the weekend, I feel soooo much happier for it. I'm sat here in my lovely clean, tidy, dusted lounge and the kitchen is spick and span too. We've just got to sort the stuff for ebay/loft/bin in Dylans room then we just have to finish decorating the kitchen and bathroom. Then it might be ttc time

Hi to everyone I haven't mentioned, chat soon x

FloriaTosca · 12/08/2008 11:16

Dal; I'm so glad Dylan seems to have turned a corner...such a relief! And WOW at the spring clean! It always lifts my mood knowing everything is in its palce (doesnt look like that will happen to me for a while then!!!) how exciting to be ttc again ...get Dylans room sorted and the paint brushes out quick!!!!

got to go..he calls..

OP posts:
Dalrymps · 12/08/2008 11:38

Thanks Floria, yes he's a lot happier now after his nap on me . Spring clean indeed, a little late but never mind!
I will get working on Dylan's room as per your instructions . Hope you're having an ok day with mr energetic

Dalrymps · 12/08/2008 14:50

Oh bum he's been sick again, just when I thought he was over it. I don't thik it was to do with him still being ill though, he had a particularily violent burp and then was sick so I think the burp set him off by accudent IYSWIM. It covered him and me so we are bother clean and completely changed now and he has gone down for his nap.

Where is everyone at the moment????? The thread has gone really quiet! I keep refreshing during the day but no new messages , guess I'm just bored cause my leg still hurts and I can't get out for a walk.

Hope to 'see' some of you on here soon x

J2O · 12/08/2008 16:55

Hi all,

wasn't going to post today-but seen as though you're bored Dal... I have had a crappy day, discovered dd1 had headlice badly last night, checked myself and can't find anything but itching like mad, had my holidoze travel cot delivered today, unfortunately the seller had got the addresses mixed up, so i ended up with a bumbo instead, so need to stay in tommorrow again and wait for pick up and delivery, went shopping and someone reversed into the side of me, luckily noone was hurt and not much damage, oh then i went to docs to get prescription for headlice, not enough to put on me though, so will just have to keep combing through, Shannon is sleeping so badly at the moment i think everything is getting on top of me, plus the fact i woke up with a stye and a headache that hasn't gone away all day, and Shannon headbutted me earlier and gave me a fat lip....moan...moan..moan...
on the plus side Richie is bring us some tea round, although i need to do the mash potatoes, yorkshire puds and dumplings a nice break for me then!

Dal-hope it was just a burpy sick and that Dylan is on the road to recovery x

Mine · 12/08/2008 17:05

wow J20 i think you need to spend the rest of the day hiding under a duvet!! Thats a pretty full on day!

If today it like then tomorrow can only be better

Dal - really good to hear Dylan is on the road to recovery. Burp sick is normal so i guess it just was a coincidence.

DH took us out today for a lovely day of shopping and lunch at wagamamas. I bought a few nice work things from Zara..... very therapeutic

Dalrymps · 12/08/2008 21:03

J20 - Sorry you've had such a crappy day, i'd probably be whimpering in a corner by now if I was you.
Thanks for posting anyway and making me feel less lonely.

Dylan hasn't been sick again but was been very wingy up until going to bed and is noe crying whilst dh tries to settle him .

The only problem is that now I seem to be falling apart. My leg is no better, in fact it's worse and i've got a terrible headache which is easing a bit after some paracetamol and a sleep but I also feel very sick. Feeling very sorry for myself.

Mine - Sounds like you had a lovely day, bet all that shopping at Zara has made you feel a little better about going back to work

Well, i'm off to watch secret millionaire whilst trying not to vom. HI to everyone I haven't mentioned x x x

J2O · 13/08/2008 09:14

hi everyone, feeling a lot brighter today, Shannon slept from 9 (after screaming for nearly an hour with me refusing to take her out of her cot) and she woke up at 6.30, so not too bad.

Richie was great last night, he did tea (ish) washed up, got Shannon ready for bed (although he wears gloves to do nappies fed her and put her in her cot and then bought me a pram of ebay this one I have been looking for one that is perfect, with a drinks holder for me and a decent shopping basket, the only thing is i don't think it will fold as small as i'd like, but will see when i get it. Think i could get used to being looked after lol

I have to wait in today for my delivery of the travel cot, which is a bit of a pain, but i suppose i can have more time browsing the net!

glad you had a nice day Mine, was very , which Waggamammas did you go to?

Dal-hope Dylan is ok and you are feeling better today, you sound a bit run down.

where is everybody these days? having real lives no doubt!

Dalrymps · 13/08/2008 09:25

Hey J20, glad you're feeling a bit better today. Sounds like Ricjie is really looking after you! Theat buggy looks lovely, my sil has a hauck and it's lasted really well, they've had it 20 months now ans still going stong
I'm feeling better today too, don't feel sick anymore, got a very dull headache, almost gone though and my foot/leg seems to be on the mend.
Dylan woke at about 6.45am I am not a morning person! He's eaten his breakfast and drunk his milk well and now gone down for a nap so I am going to have a quick sleep too
Chat to you all later on, hello to everyone!!!

Apricotle · 13/08/2008 16:44

Afternoon all

HOW are you all???? I didn't realise how much I missed you all til I logged on just now for the first time in weeks and weeks. How is everyone? Is there any major news? From my super quick scan I've managed to glean that Henry has learnt to roll and clap (well done Henry) and J20 has a new man (well done J20 !) and Dylan's been ill .

I'm back at work and hating being away from Huw. Get this little gem of a sympathetic employer story - I applied months ago to come back part time; my Head of Dept didn't get back to me for ages; then he suggested we meet to discuss my application on my first day back at work. I pointed out that I might need to know before that so that I could arrange childcare (like, duh). So we met a week before my return. For reasons to do with the financial situation of the university, he turned down my application. So, one week before I start back at work, I'm told it's going to be full-time. I was gutted and furious in pretty much equal measure. Cried a lot. Still do a fair bit. I'm so cross about losing out on so much of Huw's all too short babyhood. The only consolations are that the job is largely task-based rather than hours based, so I can work from home at odd hours rather than being here 9-5 every day (though term-time will be more difficult), and, of course, we are no longer looking forward to two more years of financial struggling. Neither of these stops me being furious and gutted though!

Dh initially said he'd look after Huw, but soon found that he couldn't look after Huw and edit books at the same time (like, duh again!) (though don't get me wrong, my dh is great, and great with Huw, he's just got that whole male 'not quite getting childcare' gene I guess). Anyway, we've now sorted out a childminder for Huw two days a week to begin with. I'm using holiday to take a day a week until Christmas, and dh will do the other two days. After Christmas we'll reassess. I'm really lucky to have found a lovely childminder, who is the mum of one of dd's schoolfriends. Huw has been for a trial session this week, which went well. It was so strange leaving him for the first time.

Huw is now crawling, if you can call it that. He has one knee and one foot on the ground, which looks most peculiar, but does the job. He stands a fair bit, just balancing. He's got five teeth, with another nearly through. He pulls himself up on everything and generally causes havoc. He seems to be saying 'daddy'.

DD has been off on various trips over the summer and tomorrow she's being filmed for Stwffio, a Welsh language tv show where the kids cook and eat and I'm not sure what else. It's going to be on S4C. We live in a dip and can't get S4C! Apparently, the presenter is gorgeous - I'll let you know when it's on .

Our other big news - we're going to New Zealand (jsut for a trip, not for ever) - we leave on Christmas Eve and come back 18 January. Christmas Day in a posh hotel in Singapore, then three weeks working our way up from Christchurch to Auckland, then two more days in Singapore on the way home. Can't wait. Though rather dreading the four 10-14 hour flights involved. Anyone got any hot tips for flying with little ones? I've never done it before. I'm planning on trying to keep up the breastfeeding till then, to at least avoid the hassle of formula on the plane - Huw may have other plans, though, we'll have to see.

Right, that's you guys updated . Sorry for the overlong post, but it's been a long time. Sorry about that too.

Glad to be back!!

A xxx

Dalrymps · 13/08/2008 17:09

Hey Apricotle!
Sounds like you've been busy! How dreadfully annoying that your work won't let you go part time , at least you've managed to work out a way for Huw to be with a childminder only 2 days per week for now, must be a weight off your mind.
Sounds like DD has a pretty hectic social life to, get her being on tv!
Dylan also has a strage way of crawling, he kind of pushes with one knee and drags his 'dead leg' behind him , you'll be pleased to know he hasn't been sick today and has been eating like a horse, he's also done a proper poo (TMI).
Your trip to New Zeland sounds like the holiday of a lifetime, will be nice and warm at christmas time also so we'll all be very of your tan when yo get back. I'm sure you'll all really enjoy yourselves, I think a few of the ladies have been on plane journeys with the lo's so they'll be able to advise you on that.
Well done on keeping the breastfeeding going, you're doing amazingly, as you say it will be less hastle on the plane so hopefully Huw won't decide otherwise.

Well, I'm just waiting for dh to get home from work, i've baked him a lovely big corned beef and potato pie (his favourite)
with 'I love you' written on it in pastry, i'm sure he'll like it

Hi to everyone, hope you're all doing ok. Chat soon x x x

Mine · 13/08/2008 18:40

Apricot !! Great to hear from you
Sounds as though you've had your hands full too.
Your holiday sounds amazing...... but 14 hours on a flight!! Wow! thanks a challenge. We took DS on a 5 hour flight and he slept all the way there and all the way back because he had his own seat (which we didn;t pay for i might add ). This was a lifesaver. Our journey would have been soooooooo much harder if he had to sit on my lap for the duration of the whole flight.

So if you can get a seat for you LO then i would highly reccomend it. If you can;t pay for it, just ask at check to be seated with a spare seat next to you if possible like we did. If you check in early enough they will try and accommodate you.

Dal - great to hear Dylan is 'fixed' and getting back to normal... he must be famished after the week he's just had!!!

I love the fact that you wrote I Love You on your DH pie!!!! I thought i was the only sappy soppy one!!!!

I'm off the give DS a bath and then make banana jam

crochetdiva · 13/08/2008 18:44

Hi Apricotle - was wondering where you'd got to!
Holiday in NZ sounds fabulous - employer less so!

Hiya Dal, glad to hear that lo is getting better.

J20 - sorry you've been feeling lousy!

FT - Sorry to hear dh has not been so d!

muppetgirl - hooray for H rolling!

Wll, news here - I've got my voice back (lost it after all the singing in the bl00dy rain last week, and with a cold ...

(TMI alert)also think I may have a uterine infection - I've had a bloody discharge for 3 weeks now, and it's not getting any better... am going to make an appointment for gp I think.

I've called target with SW - I've now lost 29lbs - and have bought my first pair of size 12 jeans in over 10 years! Still a size 18 on top though - boobs haven't shrunk any, although my size has now changed to a 32H (dh thinks it's great!)

Recovery from the pnd is going well - I'm having cbt on the nhs - it was a long wait, but it's certainly worth it: today I went to Cardiff on my own, and bought knickers in M&S ... the last time I went there on my own I had the mother and father of all panic attacks!

Um, what else ... oh yes, we've bought a trailer tent - we're going to be going up to Manchester next Easter to pick it up - no point going to get it this summer! It's a camp-let, which I'll be able to put up on my own so I can take the kids away on my own when dh is playing cricket at the weeknd.

There was something else, but I've forgotten ... never mind, can't be that important!

love and hugs to everybody - especially those I didn't mention earlier.

E x

muppetgirl · 13/08/2008 18:57

Hi all not been on for a while as I had a bit of a turn about an incident at our gym.

A friend and I had booked a tennis court on Monday at 1pm and we met with the kids (Ollie + her 2 4, 7 and Hen in the pram) I organised Ollie + Katie to be on the other side of the net to me quite close and I fed them balls to hit, Luke then went round and collected the balls. Hen was in his pushchair at the side chirping but not really making any noise at all. After a while a man shouted out from another court that the children were making to much noise and could I quieten them. I said that they were excited about the game and were just making noises to that effect (they were, I'm not being precious mother really, they were excited to get the ball over the net and had even named some of the tennis balls ) another one of them then said that they [the children] had no discipline and that they needed to learn 'tennis etiquette' I then shouted 'I beg your pardon?' and then politely disagreed. Things quietened down and then we all carried on playing. At the end of the session my friend went into another hall to have an extra 5 mins with Luke, Ollie and Katie and I sat with Henry waiting for her. The man walked passed, looked at me and then tutted. I then asked him to come and speak to me instead of tutting at me. He then started a tirade at me saying that my children needed to learn some discipline and that children hanging around on the streets 'this is where it starts...' I said I was a teacher and well aware of discipline and he then said 'well, I wonder what sort of school you teach in' Meanwhile his friends came and added their two penneth in and when I disagreed with them they would just walk off. I always asked them to come back and calmly talk to me rather than just walk off but it's almost like no one had ever disagreed with them and they were indignant at that. He then said 'We just come here to play good tennis and we don?t want it ruined by your children!' I was incredibly shocked by this and let him walk off meanwhile another of his friends came out and then started agreeing with him, at this point I just started crying as I couldn?t believe they were so rude. I actually said to the woman I couldn?t believe they were so rude and had to walk away. The tennis pro had seen the on court argument and came to see me but he said he didn't want to get involved but that he thought my lot were fine and not making too much noise. We went to see the duty manager and he's having a word but honestly I have never had anything like it. I tired to tell the man that if he had a problem with us then it would have been more polite to come and speak to us rather than shout across the court embarrassing me and upsetting the children when he said that he wasn't shouting at the children he was shouting at me. I also think that he should have gone to get the duty manager to sort the situation out f he was that upset as he was saying my children had no etiquette (they're 4 for fs!!!) yet it was fine for him to shout at me? I find it laughable that the 'youth of today' are seen as something to avoid when personally I am finding the older generation far ruder and overtly so. He went on telling me that he would have never behaved in the way my children did and neither would his own children, I said this isn?t the Victorian ages where children can?t be seen or heard and that 1pm in the school holidays is not an unreasonable time to find children on the tennis court. I also said would he be happier of my children were at home in front of the telly or playing the play station?

He's been sent a letter telling him not to be so rude and that if he does it again he will be asked to leave it being a family club and all that.

Since then been feeling very shaky and nervous about going into the gym in case him and his cronies were there. I know I sound a bit of a wimp but this has knocked my confidence somewhat and I was partly upset as I cried and thought this was a weak thing to do.

Anyway, I ran 48 mins last night (7.1k) as I was soooooooooo pisssed off so that's one good things that's come out of it!

Am off to read everyone's posts >>>

LisaLessLumpy · 13/08/2008 19:19

Apricotle - good to see you back and WOW at your trip, sounds amazing but I really don't envy all that flying time

Dal - Awwwww, I hope your hubby appreciates you

Crochetdiva - Well done on your weight loss, I seem to have stalled, I've lost 26 pound but nothing else for the last couple of weeks I'm off on a 10 day holiday on Sunday and I am hoping to stay the same due to being far more active than normal

Mine - Banana Jam!!!

Muppet - I feel for you, I would have been so bloody angry I would have been the one to be told not to be rude well done you for keeping your cool, the rude gits

Well Ben is well into his crawling now, he is doing it all properly aswell, he is almost pulling himself into standing now too he has done it twice today on my legs, I reckon he'll have that pegged by the weekend its all happening so fast at the moment

Mine · 13/08/2008 20:01

muppet i am so shocked by the rudeness to that man and his friends. Sounds like he thought he was in a private tennis club.. you know the posh ones where all the children are robots that go to Eaton!!!! If its a family leisure centre like ours, then EVERYONE is entitled to be there, adults and children. its not like go in for free either. What an absolute twat he is... and his mates.

You should be proud of yourself for maintaining your cool and standing up for yourself and the children in a dignified manner. I would have lost my temper with him a long time before he came over to tut at me i'm afraid!

Wow on the 7k run...... I wouldn;t have anywhere to run to in my area, its all very residential!!

LLL - where are you going on hols??

alicet · 13/08/2008 20:18

Not had a chance to catch up but just wanted to post to say you are not forgotten! Sister left yesterday am and just been a bit manic really... Dh just back from long day in London and on call tomorrow so prob no chance for proper catch up before Friday at earliest.

Hope not missed anything too monumental - will find out soon enough anyway I guess... Lots of love to you all xxx

FloriaTosca · 13/08/2008 20:20

Crochet; We'll have to have an 18 month meet up in Manchester next Easter!!!!...even if it is only with WWAJC and me! Congratulations on the fantastic weight loss and on battling the pnd so well, what an achievement going to M&S alone. Sorry for the voice loss and the infection..hope the ui clears as quickly as the throat prob.

Mine;banana jam? sounds interesting!

Dal; Glad Dylan seems to be recovering. lol at your message to Dh in the dinner...I'm afraid I'd be writing "I need more sleep" in mine!

Apricot; Great to see you back. for you at the lack of flexibility from your boss but glad you seem to have found a workable solution. Lol at your Dhs "not quite getting the childcare" gene My Dh has it in spades too!!!! your holiday plans..wow NZ! it sounds like the trip of a lifetime...Don't worry about the flights, Alex was fab on all 8 flights to/around/from South Africa..though at 7 months he was small enough to use a bassinette..(worth asking about/prebooking basinette seats though as your airline might allow their use for older babies .. saves on the price of a seat or discomfort of carrying lo all the way and gives lots more leg room if you can get it), bfing is perfect for take offs and landings (keeps them equalising the pressure in their ears)but be prepared to open and taste every single food/liquid you take on board even if it is hermetically sealed...we took sachets of calpol and tester pot of sudocreme and took a small phial of gripe water (Alex used to need it a lot)because a small bottle was over the limit allowed and apparently it is the size of the pot that matters, not the amount of liquid (something about terrorists having the means to mix volatile liquids together)and travelling for over 22hrs each way needed several pots of food..I had to open and try every single one so they weren't very sterile by the time we needed them..If you have any specific worries just ask...

...bother hes woken.. back later i hope

Muppet;{shock] and for you...the ignorant old g*t...if he opens his mouth again tell him he isnt qualified to comment to your childrens manners or your ability to teach them as he has none of his own. Don't let this Victor Meldrew spoil your enjoyment of the gym..it is precisely because you are introducing your children to the diciplines, rules and joys and benefits of sport so young that your boys will not end up hanging round street corners as teenagers..you should go in there head held high proud of yourself and them and make him hang his misreable kill joy head in shame.
