Morning all,

Well we have the hungry Hippo back he has drunk 90z milk, eaten a weetabix and had a petit filous. Oh yes, the Henster is back on track!!!

The narrowboat was great -pictures on facebook if you fancy a look. Ollie didn?t stop asking questions and chatting to the people on the boat. I love that about him that he's really confident to talk to people...We bought the tiles for our kitchen (only 11 months after the kitchen was finished ) We all went swimming yesterday, bought Ollie a cheap sandpit + paddling pool and then painted the front door red again!

It was MIL's birthday yesterday so dh phone in the morning to wish her happy birthday -no reply he phoned later, -no reply until I saw on facebook that his sister said she was in Wales for the weekend (would be other sister's house) so I said to dh 'do you think they've all gone to Wales for the weekend? He phoned sis and yes both his sisters and his parents were in Wales for MIL's birthday having a family get together.

Dh didn't even know.....

I am fuming on his behalf as Ollie had made the most beautiful card which she now won?t get till today.

...and they wonder why we find them 'difficult?'

Anyway, meet up with friends in a park today and then tidy the house while the children sleep this afternoon.

Dal -how's you today?

Stefka - great to hear from you x

Alice - am very excited for you meeting your nephew xxx

Inzi - Glad the argument wasn't too bad and lol on your bird woman0 escapades!!

Hi to all, will be back later x

muppetgirl · 28/07/2008 08:58

that should be 9oz!!! not 90!

FloriaTosca · 28/07/2008 09:53

Hi Everyone!

Meet up in York is fine by me..Mondays are definately best for me (and seem good for most of us)..
..but the offer of a BBQ here in Rossendale is on if anyone is interested (just so long as no one expects an immaculate house and groomed garden)...a weekend towards the end of August would be good for us, if any of you fancy it..

Crochet;Hope your sister is getting the help she needs and gets better soon. Glad M is back on feeding form.
Inzi;congratulations on another bird rescueUnderstand your shock at Janes fall but thought you'd like to know that my GP asks if Alex has fallen off the bed yet every time I see her...she says every child has to do it at least once if only to scare their parents!
Dal;(((big hugs)))..nothing to add everyone has said it all...except...you mentioned being a midwife but didnt fancy the "life in your hands" responsiblity, how about looking into being a Doula? OH, and I wouldn't wish D. walking yet..it is hell!..they get into everything, they find dangerous things you didnt even know existed...you need eyes in the back of your head, an extra pair of arms and (in my case) a new back!
LLL. Wow at Bens weight regain!
Muppet; Glad Henry has shown you what he is capable of ...truth be told I often wish Alex was a more laid back, let the world come to me, type...and totally agree, they all get there in their own time and according to their own schedule.
Alice; Hope the family visit is wonderful and that your nephew is a darling.
Choc;glad you have settled in so well and thrilled to see you back on here. Sorry that R is still not giving you all the sleep you need but glad that she too has shown what she can do if she wants.
Stefka; great to see you back, glad you are getting the specialist help.
Winnie; looking forward to seeing you

Hope I havent missed anyone..sorry if I have..my brain is fried..we all have a nasty cold/sore throat type thing so, despite giving him Medised, Alex (coughing and sneezing and generally miserable poor mite)is waking every 2 hours and when he is asleep Dhs blocked sinuses make him snore loud enough to disturb the whole village! I'm sleep deprived at the best of times but now...aaargh! He's been up since 6.30, just went for a nap at 9 and is now awake again...I think I'll take us for a steamy bath, see if that helps us breathe.

Inzi you poor thing! Dareh has always been a crap sleeper so I really feel for you. She has slept well before though and will again - it could well be the weather like you say. Just do anything to get her to nap. Would the car or pram work? I find if Dareh naps he sleeps better at night although he still wakes up loads.

inzi.. is she teething??
My ds sounds like your DD so its really usual for him to cry so much and be so clingy. He usually does this when he is going through a horrible teething phase...

Hi Inzi - you've had a bit of a day!! Do you have a travel cot you can put Jane into? If you do maybe just a change of scenery would help. Something may have frightened her and have absolutely nothing to do with you leaving her to cry it out...

Re your mum, I don't know if she's right or wrong. I give Henry squashed peas, beans etc and he seems okay with them. I figure if he can pick it up then he can eat it. Crochet might know...

Well we went to the park today and Ollie had great fun with a friend from school. We came home and I had another massive headache but Ollie did get and email from his friend who is on hoilday so he was really happy about that. MIL phoned dh on his mobile to than Ollie for his card (not our house) so things are obviously going from bad to worse as she won;t phone the house at all. Going to speak to dh about it tonight. Calmly and rationally....

oh Inzi i wish i could pop over and give you a hand.
My ds has started a similar phase of having a crying fit when ever he it laid down in his cot. So now, when he cries a lot i lay on the floor next to his cot for a few minutes just so he doesn;t feel lonely and he soon drops off.

Give it a go if you like..... can;t make things worse i guess!

Keep smiling, and chanting.... 'this too shall pass'

hugs xxxxx

LisaLessLumpy · 28/07/2008 21:32

Inzi - can't help on the cot front I'm afraid as I've not really had experience of it. Any times that Ben does cry I don't tend to pick him up again I just try and settle him or let him cry for 10 mins then go and try to settle him again. Saying that he started crying two hours after he went to bed last week I went to try and settle him but he was just distraught and it was a different cry to usual so I did get him out to comfort him.

Regarding food, Ben has started having whole peas and I have started chopping his veg up small rather than mashing it the whole time, he is fine with it, I can't imagine why there would be a problem, saying that the odd pea does come out the other end the way it went in, perhaps that's what your mum means? because its obviously not been digested?

Hope you get the sleeping sorted soon. These things are sent to test us, don't worry you are being a fabulous mum and don't let anyone else suggest otherwise {HUGS} xx

J2O · 28/07/2008 22:42

Inzi-Shannon sometimes has whole peas, she had a couple of raisins earlier, I think there old enough now to have them, i thought the whole thing about mashing them was because of the choking risk?? TBH if she hates the cot so much i wouldn't put her in it if you have somewhere else to put her for a few nights, then try her again, its just not worth the stress for either of you, its prob a phase and she'll get over it i'm sure. do you all put los to sleep for naps in there cots? Shannon has naps in her pram and goes in her cot just at bedtime, she actually goes to sleep better in her pram, i can put her in there awake, wheras i've got lazy at bedtime and have held her while she falls asleep and then put her in it.
Also out of curiosity, what do other los have as forms of comfort? Shannon wont sleep without a blanket covering her face, esp her fluffy one, she gets really excited when she sees it and shes tired.

crochet-hows your sister doing?

my hv came round today to do the 'leg crease test' Shannons creases are uneven, so she had me take her to doctors to be refered for a hip scan, I can't say i'm overly worried, as she is crawling fine and the doctor seemed to think she was ok, but referred her just to be on the safe side. I'm off to my mums for a couple of days tommorrow so wont be on for a bit, sorry to miss people out, i'm on my way to bed, love to all xxx

J2O · 28/07/2008 22:44

ps most mons are good for me, not the 18thish though because we are going to cadbury world, and FT-yes please! If we hurry up and arrange a date then i can book a saver room at a travel lodge, so hopefully it should only be £19

J2O · 28/07/2008 22:46

pps -Hi choc, stefka and everyone else, god i'm crap! right off to bed

FloriaTosca · 28/07/2008 22:57

Inzi; regarding food..as Crochet says "until they are one, food is just for fun" if the peas dont get fully digested it doesnt matter, shes getting her best nutrition from her milk still. I have done blw from the start though I have "popped" a few peas to help digestion but Alex has been having whole baby carrots and carrot batons since 6mths without any ill effects...give your Mum a book on baby led weaning...you are doing just fine.
As to the cot fear, we have been having a similar problem since the hot weather started...at first we put it down to teething or to his cold...like Jane he only seems to want to sleep with me, preferrably latched on (and I can't leave him to cry it out either... we tried Medised without any noticable effect ..but Dh put the air-conditioner next to his cot tonight and fingers crossed it seems to be doing the trick (so far)... I'll keep you posted. I hope things improve for you.
time to go try and catch up on some shut eye..night all

I wouldn't be able to make the end of August either so go ahead without me and I'll try and make the next one

Mine · 29/07/2008 08:46

morning all, quick question.. are you all mostly doing BLW??

FloriaTosca · 29/07/2008 08:57

well the air-con unit worked to get him to sleep..but we switched it off at 11pm, he slept until 2 and then woke screaming every hour, going back to sleep in my arms until 6am and then deciding he wanted to be up. Just dropped off again, so I'm going for a nap too....hope your night was better than that Inzi

muppetgirl · 29/07/2008 09:02

Hi Mine - sort of is the answer from us! He's lost so much weight that I am going back to the milk (lots of calories) and then just giving him food he can pick up (not many calories) I had been mashing/whizzing down his food but I have this theory that he's eating too much? when I do this as he'll eat a whole sausage + Potatoes + veg if it's whizzed up yet when he feeds himself he seems satisfied by what he's eaten and it's far less. He's back onto 4 bottles of milk for the time being until he's picked up on his weight again and then I'll drop him back to 3.

When did pureeing start -does anyone know? My friends mums didn't really puree as such just gave them bits of food to chew and mashed fruit + veg till they had teeth -when did this turn into full on pureeing of whole meals? I go back to the cave....there would have been no plug socket for the blender yet they managed!

We're making 'sunglasses' for the milkshake competition as Ollie wants to enter it (Oh MY LIFE DOES HE ACTULLLY WANT TO DO ARTY STUFF????) and then we're off to a friends in the afternoon. Ollie has his swimming presentation this evening so I will be proud mummy bursting with pride taking all the photos. (He's passed stage 2 but really it feels like he's won the Olympic gold medal!)

Inzi - how's things today?

Inzi - Ben has only done the bad crying once, before the real heat started, I think he must have had a bad dream (do they dream this early?), thankfully the heat hasn't bothered him at all, just put him to bed in a sleeveless vest and he has slept till morning.

Mine - I'm not really doing BLW, other than toast and breadsticks Ben refuses anything else I give him to hold so I am making up meals for him and just mashing them now, some I am just chopping up, for instance last week went to MiL's for sunday lunch, he had what we had, I just chopped it up small for him and he scoffed the lot down I think he is just lazy, would rather be fed than doing it himself

LisaLessLumpy · 29/07/2008 10:13

J20 - when I am home Ben always has his nap in the cot, if I am out and about he will sleep in the car seat or pushchair (if moving) twice he has fallen asleep in his door bouncer

Dalrymps · 29/07/2008 10:35

Just quickly, sorry you had a bad night inzi sounds like you're doing all you can so hopefully it'll pass soon.
We are doing a mixture too, I feed Dylan his puree's first (am trying to make some of them thicker/lumpier all the time) then once he's finished that or had as much as he wants we give him some finger food to play with. I would go totally BLW but need to make sure he's getting a certain amount of food with his slow weight gain. Off in the shower now, chat soon x

Stefka · 29/07/2008 11:55

I do a mixture too. His lunch is all finger food except if I give him a yogurt for pudding or something and then his tea I tend to give him something mashed up and he will have a bit of ours too if appropriate. He likes to feed himself best.

Sorry your night was bad Inzi - hope today is better for you.
