Here we go ladies.

Scoot - if that bakers can't do it in time, the ones in Muswell Hill don't need much notice afaik. They do all sorts of themed cakes. Maybe you could order in the morning to pick up after work Friday? You come more or less past there don't you?

The Bakers of Muswell Hill

LG&T - I'm afraid to say this, but I reckon your student might eat £87 worth of food... Really sorry about DH being gone for so long. Is there any chance that if the "active service" or whatever it's classified as, happens now; will there be less chance of them trying to send him off near the birth, like last time? Don't panic about twins just yet. You have an awful lot on your plate. I bet you're not looking after yourself properly and that's what made you feel faint. The news of DH being away will have given you an adrenaline rush and if you hadn't eaten or something, then would have made you feel faint.

twelveyeargap · 03/06/2008 22:53

Lupins, I'm really sorry about your DH.

How is M's foot MrsJB? I remember going through an "I hate you" phase with my mum when I was about 3. I grew out of it. (Now I just find her irritating, but that's another story!)

elkiedee · 03/06/2008 23:18

Lupins, sorry about your dp's sacking.

Scoot, grrr at your dh, what is it with men and such tasks?

cameroonmama · 04/06/2008 07:29

Morning all.

MrsJB sorry to hear about poor M's foot. And I wholeheartedly agree with packing her off to school

Scoot, good luck today, but glad to hear you are feeling a little better. I was thinking back to when dd was Lily's age and it was definitely her most trying stage, I do remember having a good cry on a friend's shoulder then drinking copious amounts of gin. Just think only another 4 years to go then she will as cheeky and insolent charming as my dd. Fingers crossed you manage the cake dilemma. As a last resort there is always Tescos!

LG&T at you being all alone. You have my sympathies. As for the Spanish student , I reckon she also might be in for a bit of a shock! Let's hope she likes children

Lups, sorry about dh, is there any chance of him finding something else soon?

Benson, what on earth were you doing in the Arctic? Dh spent some time in Antarctica and loved it. Personally give me the tropics and infectious diseases any day. I am quite that your gp didn't give you a yellow fever vaccination but still wrote the certificate. It is still very effective and necessary, though it is highly unlikely that where you were travelling to would have been areas of particularly high risk.

April, many enormous thanks, a parcel turned up yesterday Intact and untouched! Its a lovely outfit thanks and a perfect size

Pink, great news about L's hips. Now, have you given her any milk yet?

So we had a lovely time at the beach, the sun shone and the dc had a ball. J discovered that he is a natural born swimmer and charmed everyone with his amphibian tendancies. I had to draw the line when he wanted to splash in a rock pool in which lived a rather large and hungry Moray Eel. Strangely there was only one sand tasting moment, when he licked his hands and turned his nose up in disgust. Still it was tiring being on my own with all 3, one minute they were on the beach, the next in the pool. Thank goodness there were other mums to help. No wonder single parents don't go on holiday often. On the flight on the way back (an hour and half) J was particularly trying so TYG god knows how you managed all the way to`Oz.

JamInMyWellies · 04/06/2008 08:34

LUPS what a nightmare I do hoppe he can find something else.

CAM I did have a chuckle at your FB when I saw you had been rescuing Jasper all wkend. I wholeheartedly agree on flying with kids on your own. I can safely say it doesnt get any easier when they are older I remember one particularly harrowing flight with 3 changes and an 8 yr old evil girl and 2 teenage boys tis far worse when they decide they are old enough to go off exploring airports on their own.

SCOOT really hope you get some answers today.

MRS JB how is Maddies foot?

PJ am soo pleased for you one less thing to worry about now. Sounds like you had a fabby birthday.

LG&T you really need to take care of yourself . Rememeber we are all hear for you if you need to chat/rant/giggle etc while DH is away.

Well thank goodness we celebrated the munchkins birthday at the weekend. The weather was vile yesterday. DP took the day off work we were going to go to the zoo so we just had some time at home although we ventured out to take A out for a b-day lunch to of all places a Wacky Warehouse think that will be our first and last visit there. We eat skanky scampi and chips and poor Archie had pasta in what looked and tasted like tom soup. Never mind still cant believe that my little monster is now 1 and that this time last yr he was only a day old.

Pinkjenny · 04/06/2008 09:19

Morning all

Lups - I hope he finds something else soon. Sounds like he's had a terrible time there.

Cam - Glad you had a great time , will come to the milk thing in a minute...

Scoot - hope today goes well and isn't too traumatic.

OK, I have decided not to post on any other threads bar this one. I am sick of being attacked for having an opinion, there are some people on here that are so aggressive, and can't seem to get their points across in a non-judgemental and accusatory manner.

Right, rant over, cow's milk. I tried her with it this morning. She drank half an ounce and spat the rest out. What to do? I'd start a thread but I'll only get chastised criticised. Help!!!

cameroonmama · 04/06/2008 09:28

Pink!!!! Well done you! Even the monster-eater-of-anything spat it out for the first few goes. Stick with it for a couple of days, offer only cows milk or water and she will soon be gulping it down.

Fwiw I only ever post on those threads that I know I have the answer to, like, How long does it take to fly to Paris? type of thing, I feel safer that way!

Jam, I just loved your FB photos, that boy is so damn cute. Is mine the only one with no hair?

twelveyeargap · 04/06/2008 09:31

Pink, just keep trying. She'll get used to it. Does she have cereal in the morning? Make sure you use cows milk in that. I think formula is probably sweeter tasting so it's not surprising some babies prefer it.

Use regular milk in cereal and offer drinks of milk from a cup, and keep trying with a bit in a bottle.

I haven't tried it myself, but I suppose it's feasible to give her half and half, reducing the amount of formula until it's eventually all milk.

cameroonmama · 04/06/2008 09:37

Oh yes Pink, J has it in a sucky cup, breaking that association with bottle = formula might help.

SOH, berolina is looking for you [http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/1375/542289?msgid=11062572#11062572 here]

Madamejaffa · 04/06/2008 09:49

Woo Hoo, well done pink... as Cam and TYG say just keep tyring... it will do her no harm for a few days if she doesn't drink quite as much milk as she usually would.

I still post a fair bit in other threads but for most I have adopted the say what you want to say then flounce option. The OP will read them all so your opinion will be considered no matter what the next have said. I have no space in my life for idle bickering either PJ, it is pointless but unfortunately just what some posters are looking for.

Maddie is back to normal, her foot is black but it is not bothering her in the slightest. I have just phoned and cancelled her A&E appointment for this afternoon as they only wanted to check she is walking and I think I can tell that.

Pinkjenny · 04/06/2008 11:17

Thanks ladies will keep trying. She's not a great lover of cereal and tends to have yoghurt and toast for breakfast. She has never been a big milk-drinker anyway, but I will persevere as she can't stay on formula forever!

MJ - great news about Maddie's foot. Glad you haven't got to sit in A&E in this weather.

largeginandtonic · 04/06/2008 12:04

I have phoned the midwife! She is calling me back. I dont want a scan.

PJ i have done the half and half thing wih some of mine, it does work. Beau guzzled his down like a shot so i didnt need to with him.

MrsJB glad M is feeling better, a black foot sounds nasty though, she is a tough cookie!

Scoot hope the app is ok?

Cam the pics are so cute! He is such a adorable chap, i want to squish him

They will hopefully let dh stay here until the baby is born and not send him off for a week then fly him back. He is due to sail on 19th Jan, the ships programme changes all the time though [hopeful emoticon]

I have briefed the children on points of contact if i faint, they are so sweet. I told them to go to a neighbour and make the baby safe. That is a challenge... A cage maybe?

OP posts:
scootermum · 04/06/2008 12:20

Yes, half and half..do it gradually Pink then she wont notice, s'what Ive done with mine..Ignore the be-atches on the other thread..Have they nothing better to do?Did you get it sorted in the end?

Well they could find nothing this morning and they think it is a food intolerance.Though they are going to scan my old ovarian cysts to check them next week.As I feel better now im basically eating only bran, they have said to start reintroducing things gradually to see if there is a reoccurance and that will tell me what it is.Im so relieved its nothing serious, but am so craving any type of food that isnt cereal or sodding soy milk at the moment!!

Oh yes and have just been called a lying whore in a meeting (someones relatives werent too happy with the service here it seems and also clearly took offence to the length of my skirt-quite short)-well I ask myself..do I care? Not really..I wasnt lying and if I want to wear a mini skirt I jolly well will!

Hope they let him stay beforehand gandt. If not book me in to come and help out with the nippers..

Have told DH to call that Bakery TYG, Thanks!..he can pick it up on his way back on Friday..

And if you or Jam or anyone else nearish (or far away for that matter) fancy coming to the party then you are welcome-its on Friday at 3.00..email and I will send you the addy

Pinkjenny · 04/06/2008 12:33

Scoot - great news about this morning. I can't believe that someone has just said that to you! And I thought being in HR was bad!

LG&T - we'll all come down and help you. Has the midwife called back yet? Can we do anything first weekend in August? Am imaging long strolls and ice cream.
Or maybe just ice cream. And finally I can taste a KK!

Yes thanks Scoot, I spoke to the rector this morning. He was a bit rude and unnecessarily so IMO, but its all sorted and her christening can go ahead. He didn't believe that I had forgotten. But God knows I did.

Jam - that cake is amazing. Am assuming my piece was lost in the post. I will try and post some of L's birthday pics later. But I definitely did not make the cake.

Stop meeting up!!! Am so .

scootermum · 04/06/2008 12:43

Well thats social care for ya..Glad the rector played ball..

madeindevon2 · 04/06/2008 12:51

glad to hear everyone is ok (ish!)
scoot....food intolerance...i think freddie suffering from that too. wheat for sure (ive elimated that) banana makes his face all red and rashy. as do a lot of fruit acually...cows milk has done once (only given it to him a few times....3 i think and only only once came up in rash.
its such a nightmare. hes still on formula for everything but i know ive got to try again with the cows milk...he cant stay on formula for ever.
so my little freddie will be 1 yrs old tomorrow. i cant believe it. dh has day off so we are gonna do something nice if the weather holds.

we finally got planning permisson. so work starts next week. living in a building site with a 1 yr old not my idea of fun but needs must...

dh was away on business last night so im looking fwd to having him back later! no chance of lie in tho. he was up at 5am (4am uk time) and ive been up at 5 for past three days with freddie. god knows why. he was sleeping til 6 or 6.30 which was fine but 5 isnt so fine......
tried giving milk and putting back to bed, tried leaving for while. nothing works. hes standing up in his cot shouting!!! he wants to get up and play and thats that!
any ideas? oh i put to bed half hour later too. made no difference either..

scootermum · 04/06/2008 13:00

How odd.M has started doing that too this week...We just put her in bed with us.(anything for an easy life)Is what we did with L and she goes to bed fine now-it lasted about a month with her so am hoping for the same with M!

Could you try follow on milk instead of cows..or Soy milk..no on second thoughts dont inflict that on him its yeeeuch!

Its odd to think that this time last year we were the only ones (and juicy) left!I remember getting your text to say F had been born when I had just gone in to be induced..Ah its bringing it all back..
Have a lovely day tomorrow

madeindevon2 · 04/06/2008 13:41

yeah i know! this time last year i was waddling around verulum park with dh and having an icecream.....before going in to be induced...

tried bringing him in with me but he just wriggles and does everything to get off the bed (diving, rolling, anything)! it doesnt help that dh gets up about 5.30 normally anyway so he crawls around upstairs after daddy.....

but he used to sleep in til after dh had gone or at least just before....

MKG · 04/06/2008 14:26

good morning ladies.

Now LG&T why don't you want a scan. Is it because you're afraid of what you will see? It's ok.

As for the student have you considered putting her to work. I can see it now, she'll say "Señora, no soy su esclava" and you'll say, "I don't know what you just said but in England it custom that the guest does all the work while the lady of the house rests in her bed"

twelveyeargap · 04/06/2008 15:37

Have you tried rice milk Scoot? A dietician once recommended it to me. Not that I had any intention of giving up diary, (I was just nodding along to keep her happy). She said it's not such a shocking change from cows milk and doesn't smell funny like soya.

LG&T - is that "don't want a scan" because you've decided you've decided there's a medical reason not to (I know some people on MN don't agree with them) or because you're scared sh'tless there will be more than one? If the latter... Well, you know what I'm going to say. Get it over and done with so you can either heave a sigh of relief or start planning.

I just got a quote for a loft ladder. We have access to the loft in a vertical wall rather than a ceiling so it's non-standard. £1020. I don't effing think so! I'll use an ordinary ladder FGS. [That didn't even include fitting and the guy goes, "It does include VAT though." Gee, thanks.

MKG · 04/06/2008 15:49

Rice milk is so yummy. When my dad had cancer and we went vegan we switched to it m m m and rice dream ice cream is soo good too. My nephew drinks rice milk because he's allergic to dairy and soy. Super yummy.

largeginandtonic · 04/06/2008 16:24

Jonah was allergic to everything for a while, including dairy. He was BF till 16mths and then when i gave him cows milk he reacted very badly with awful tummy problems. I put him on SMA soya, he grew intolerant in a matter of a week, then goats milk, he grew intolerant too. In the end i saw a nutritionist and she said try Rice milk. He loved it! He had his Rice Dream (brand name) till he was 3 and a half! It was his special milk.

It is quite thin like cows milk and has no weird after taste like soya (yuk) Try it and see, Rice Dream do a version with added calcium too

I dont want the scan because i will have to go alone and it will show up hundreds of heartbeats. I am not ready for this.

MKG are you feeling better?

Scoot good news about the appointment! You should try the rice milk too! They do a choc version i seem to remember in wee cartons, Jonah had that as a treat on picnics.

Intolerances can come and go too, it may be you have to be careful for a while and then relax it bit by bit.

OP posts:
largeginandtonic · 04/06/2008 16:27

TYG the loft ladder quote is hugely OTT!!! DH parents had a very nifty one that was wooden, it popped down easy peasy and was very wide and sturdy. I was climbing it heavily pregnant with Beau. Will keep my eye open for it and link.

OP posts:
MKG · 04/06/2008 16:34

Hey LG&T I am feeling better thank you. Don't worry about how many heartbeats will be on your scan. It would suck to go alone, but we you need to know how far along you are. You have nothing to be afaid. Woman you are 30 years old with 6 children. I think you can handle this and anything else that comes your way.

Has the midwife called you back yet?

largeginandtonic · 04/06/2008 16:38

She called when i was on the school run, i feel a nuisance calling her back

MKG you can stay for an extended holiday when they are all due ok?
