Caz10 · 26/06/2008 16:26

oh - SB or JL usual place?!!!

claireybee · 26/06/2008 16:42

Cheers Lizzer!
Great new pics, your dd looks very much like you doesn't she? Have put a couple of new ones up now too.

Clara 'imp' describes my ds perfectly!

Well last night ds woke loads again BUT he mostly didn't want feeding or just latched on quickly then off again-hopefully that means he'll drop some of those wakings soon.

Louise I find they are less likely to gag on finger food than lumpy food and less likely to gag on lumpy food if it is thick and lumpy rather than runny with bits of lump in it-does that make sense? has been true for both of mine anyway but I agree it is scary to begin with!

And anyone struggling with solids just remember "food is for fun until they're one"-was my mantra for dd and kept me sane, as well as remembering that milk contains all the nutrients they need. It is so hard when you have a non-eater though and I am so thanful that ds has taken well to solids. Now all I need is for him to learn to sleep!

BouncingTurtle · 26/06/2008 18:07

DS had his first taste of toast and butter this morning and loved it
He also had jacket potato with mature cheddar for his lunch - put away most of a small wedge including some of the skin

cazzybabs · 26/06/2008 19:52

evie has learnt a new trick yesterday - it is called standing up. She is looking very pleased with herself till she forgets and falls over banging her head. she has also learnt how to make loud noises. and has eaten some food today rather than playing with it in her mouth and spitting it back out.

BouncingTurtle · 26/06/2008 21:37

Ds is a proper screamer, he is soooo loud!!!
Think he gets it from his dad
Well done on Evie standing up, what a clever girl!
DS loves to bounce, if you support him standing he'll bounce up and down, and he bounces when he sits on my lap as well, he gets very excited when I sing "Gee Up Neddy" and "Horsey, Horsey".

loucee · 26/06/2008 21:40

Cazzy Evie sounds like she's coming on leaps and bounds. I notice a big difference in DS the last couple of days, I am sure he's had a growth spurt.

Beanster & Caz hope to see you next Wed, we have some errands to run in Glasgow so will be around most of the day if 12.30 doesn't suit. Don't worry Beanster, you wont feel left out cos I am sure Caz and I will be more than grateful for you to hold our wee ones whilst we grab our lunch! I don't mind SB or JL, actually perhaps JL would be better for facilities?

BT I gave DS toast and butter today but he nearly choked on it so I'm laying off finger foods for a couple of weeks. DD was much better with FF but worse for purees!

Clairey what a great saying! I tell myself not to get stressed because DS will only pick up on it and I want him to have positive food associations! Reading the Kellymom site was reassuring

buzzybee · 27/06/2008 11:26

Have had a rather weird experience today and wondered if anyone had any thoughts?

DD is constantly saying ba ba ba, has been trying out sounds like ba and da for a couple of weeks now. But today it was like ba ba ba for literally hours and she was looking at me so intently like "mum how come you don't understand me?" with a look of great frustration on her face. Do you think she could possibly be trying to say something???

When I say "bang bang" she bangs her hand down on her leg or on the highchair tray so I suppose its not inconceivable that she has developed some language skills?

Great pics Lizzer!

claraquitetirednow · 27/06/2008 13:57

Wow buzzy - enrol her in "G & T" classes now . That does sound like she is trying to say something though, now if only you knew what "ba ba ba" meant!

Skid - no it will only be other Brits in the compound although there will be other nationals from other embassies living nearby so hopefully we will be able to get to knwo them. If I get a job there I should be able to get to know some of the local staff. Also dd1's nursery teachers will be local Pakistanis or British Pakistanis so that will be another in-road I guess. It will be interesting to get to know some local people but it's often very hard when you are an expat. We need a hobby - that is usually the best way to get to know local people on equal terms. My dh is a paraglider so perhaps that'll be one way!

claireybee · 27/06/2008 14:15

Buzzy she could well be, dd was saying up and no from around this age (had a lot to do with her aversion to food-up was get me out of this bloody highchair and no was to everything we offered her!)

Clara it can be tough can't it. Even in Botswana with DH being Motswana I found it hard to integrate fully. Most people seemed to assume I'd want to socialise with other Brits and I once went out with the girls from work only to find out they expected me to pay for everything because I was white and therefore must be rich (never mind that I was doing the same job as them for the same pay!)

BT sounds like DS is doing well with his food, mine isn't as keen today as he has been, maybe he is developing tastes for certain things.

He slept well last night though, bed at 7, woke at 11,3 and 5, up for the day at 7.15. Went straight back to sleep after all his feeds with none of the restless fussing in the early hours.

Loucee I'm afraid I can't take credit for the saying, I nicked it from Aitch!

claireybee · 27/06/2008 14:16

Cazzy standing? wow! all by herself? Clever girl!

BouncingTurtle · 27/06/2008 15:27

Yep - "Food is Fun until they're one" has become my mantra when DS has food aversion sessions!
Can't believe he is 6months old today!

Buzzy - wow, I am impressed, definitely could be a proper communication, I'm doing Tiny Signers with ds, and they take them from 6months as that is when they begin to understand simple language!

RGPargy · 27/06/2008 15:29

Hi BT!

suey2 · 27/06/2008 19:01

hello all,
Thanks clairey for that mantra! Millie has not eaten as much as usual today- and frankly turned her nose up at some pureed chicken and potato with lemon and tarragon: that'll be soup for me then.

well, i confess to being a little indulgent. It is my birthday on tuesday and i have the nanny as it is normally a working day. Sooo.... i have booked a haircut (yay- second in the last year and a half), brazilian and a post pregnancy body treatment.

Caz10 · 27/06/2008 19:28

suey - and quite right too!!! happy birthday for Tuesday that all sounds FAB!!

BouncingTurtle · 27/06/2008 20:07

Ds slept through lunch so it was about 3pm before his next solid meal - a bit of cauli and broccoli, but he didn't eat much before deciding he had enough.

buzzybee · 28/06/2008 01:29

Hey thanks for the info guys really interesting. She's been at it again today and I'm thinking it might mean bottle - I mean that would make the most sense wouldn't it! She gets really excited when I say ba back to her too. I think we'd better hope she's G&T on the language front as she's making no effort to roll or any of those good things

I'm so impressed to hear some LOs are crawling, even standing!!! I thought DD1 was fairly quick and she didn't start crawling until 8 months. Gosh isn't amazing to think that's only 2 months away (or less for some of you)?

I like that mantra too Clairey. Fits perfectly with my rather chaotic life too. If Bea wants to eat she will. This morning we all shared some pancakes which unsurprisingly she loved - little sweet-tooth! (I hasten to add, she had them plain!)

cazzybabs · 28/06/2008 10:21

it is amazing - they do one and not the other..language or movement.

claireybee · 28/06/2008 14:08

DS is poorly Was grizzly but otherwise ok this morning and has got steadily worse. Temp of 39 although have given him calpol and it has gone back down to 38.4. Is sleeping now but I don't want to put him down in his cot a)will worry and b)just want to cuddle him better!

kelbel · 28/06/2008 18:17

clairey - sorry ds is poorly

ds is starting to sit un aided but still wouldnt leave him. however he walks all the time, holding my hands of course but people keep telling me this is pretty amazing, his 6 n half months and he's done it for about 4 weeks now, he not only puts one foot in front of other he does it at quite a pace and can happily walk up and down the room as many times as my back can take it! shows no interest in crawling coz he's always on his feet either in door bouncer or activity station

doing well with food but went off savoury so slowly getting it back in my putting apple with loads of different veg. made a lovely chicken stew and fish in cheese sauce and he bloody turned his nose up, got it frozen tho so will try again in a few weeks. have left the latest batch of veg and fruit a bit lumpier, just mashing and he's fine with it

still going good with dropping bf, now having 1 if any during day, still giving him feed at 630pm to go to sleep, then wakes at 1130 and 430am and nothing but a feed gets him back off, haven't tried to do anything about this yet because wanted to crack the days and kind of hoping he'll just gradually dropping the 2 during the night. days were more important to me first for when i go back to work

suey2 · 28/06/2008 19:48

clairey . och well, fil (retired paediatrician) says you should aspire to 12 colds in the first year.

kelbel- DD was exactly the same! i made some yummy chicken with potato tarragon and lemon and she totally refused it. However, i tried again today and it went down much better- so there is hope

Caz10 · 28/06/2008 20:58

evening ladies

have just written an essay - would appreciate any thoughts here

hope everyone is well!

I'm sooooooooooooo tired....zzzzzzzzzzzzz

loucee · 28/06/2008 21:18

Suey / Kelbel do you belong to the Tesco Baby Club? The latest wee gumf from them said it can take upto 13 attempts to get a baby to accept a new taste so hang on in there with your delicious dishes! I really hope I don't jinx things but for the past 3 days DS has just eaten everything I've given him. He's no longer gagging on purees (bless him!) and he's taking water (previously boiled) from a Tommee Tippee cup at mealtimes so I'm really happy and thrilled at his progress

Suey enjoy your treatments, I had a lovely massage and body polish with facial on Tuesday (was a Christmas present but apparently I couldn't have a massage until 6 months after the c-section). It was so fantastic I think all new mums should get one for free!

clairey, I'm a "cuddle you til you're better" type as well, they look so vulnerable when they're ill don't they. Hope your DS is better soon

becklespeckle · 29/06/2008 00:35

Hi all, another late night post from me! Seems to be the only time I have the spare time to sit down at the moment!

Skid, I am completely at your DH leaving Milo in the car while shopping! I don't even leave my 8 year old in the car when I pop in for a loaf. I think women feel more like their children are part of them than men do.

Clairey, lol at the milk squirting! Hope DS is feeling better soon.

Beanster, hi again! I don't think wooden floors hinder babies too much with their crawling, DS2 started crawling at just 6 months and we had wooden when he was small. Well done on loosing so much weight too, it may feel you have a way to go but you have made a fantastic start!

BT and Fifi, well done on your little men mastering rolling and well done to your little Evie for standing Cazzy! I can't believe how different all our little one's are with their development - will be interesting so see if they are all the same at 3 (I'm sure that's what the experts reckon...)

Buzzy, I'm sure she knows exactly what she is saying (and it could well be bottle) even if you don't! Evie has certain sounds she uses when doing certain things (ie "pffff...bu" when playing with my necklace), I'm sure she knows what she is saying!

Clara, oooh, can't believe how close your move is now! Must be quite exciting despite all the kerfuffle needing to be done before you go. Should be a fab opportunity for all of you!

Well DS1 gave me a fright earlier this evening. He was in the bath and I heard him coughing hard so obviously I went rushing in to make sure both boys were okay. Turns out he was trying to hold his breath under the water ! (a girl in his class at school had to do that in her swimming lesson) and stayed under too long, breathed in and took in water. At 8 I really thought him more sensible than that but he has now been banned from baths unless DH or I sit in with him.

claraquitetirednow · 29/06/2008 12:11

Hi everyone.

I have a rare day to myself! I haven't been too well since yesterday evening, really bad stomach cramps and feeling a bit sick. We were invited over to some friends for lunch so dh has gone with the two dd's, leaving me on my own. It would be bliss if I was feeling a bit better.

Anyway! I did a pregnancy test yesterday as what with the stomach cramps and a few other things I started to get a bit worried and wanted to be 100% sure, especially with us moving so soon. Luckily it came back negative. I am totally terrified of getting pregnant again, it would be the worst thing that could happen to us. A few people on here have talked about havin another baby but perhaps it's my age, I just couldn't cope with another. I'm exhausted just with these two. So relief all round!

My only other news is that we have finally let our house, yippeee! That's one stress off my mind.

beckle - that must have been a bit of a shock, your ds trying to breathe under water! Typical boy!

kelbel your ds sounds like he is doing very well with his walking - he'll be off on his own before you know it. My dd2 is just mastering the art of proper crawling but seems to keep forgetting how to do it!

cazzybabs - I agree, it's usually either language or physical activity first. With my dd1 it was early sitting/walking and I think my dd2 will be the same. She is very active but hasn't uttered anything that sounds even vaguely like a word yet. I think they concentrate on one until they have it mastered and then turn their attention to the other.

claireybee I hope your ds is better. My dd2 seems to have had a cold literally since she has been born, to the extent I now wonder if it is a dust allergy or something.

claireybee · 29/06/2008 13:26

Rushed ds into a&e last night because when he woke at 11 he was just lying there whimpering rather than crawling around the cot like he usually does, picked him up and he was absolutely roasting, gave him calpol and tried to bf him but he wouldn't latch on. Turned on the bedside light to read his temp and he let out a really high pitched scream-temp was 39.7. I really panicked, was thinking the worst. Dr examined him said he is clearly a very poorly boy but can't see why, just an unexplained high temp like babies often get. He thinks the light sensitivity and limpness are just a consequence of the temperature rather than an actual symptom of something more serious. They gave us calpol and neurofen (dh thinks the trip was worthwhile if only for the free medicine!), have to give calpol every 4 hours and neurofen inbetween and just keep trying to bf him as often as possible. They said I can offer water too but as he isn't really feeding that well I don't really want to-would rather try ebm in a cup if anything. Temperature is still topping 39 most of the time but thankfully hasn't gone back up as high as it was last night.
