I put ds in bed with us last night when I went to bed.
DH not happy, he is now insisting that ds needs to stay in hist cot
He's probably right but ds sleeps better beside us and he is so snuggly as well!

fifisworld · 09/06/2008 08:15

Morning everyone

Caz Its always the same isnt it

BT I know its lovely having snuggles in bed, but my friend used to do this with her ds1, he's now almost 2 and she's pregnant with twins and has had a nightmare trying to get him to sleep in his own bed. I think its easier to get them used to it when they are little, even though it is so nice.
Our 2 ds's only come in our bed on a weekend, in the morning when we are all awake, its the time we all have a cuddle in and its lovely, i always look forward to just having that half hour on our own.

Amani I hope things get better with you dd soon

Well today is my first day on my own with bf's dd, she'll be getting dropped off anytime now and ive got the 3 of them on my own until about 5.30 ish
I had her on Saturday but dp was off so it meant we could go for a walk as i cant take the 3 of them on my own, at least the weather is nice so we can all play in the garden

skidaddle · 09/06/2008 08:50

good luck for today fifi!

BT - I love having DS in our bed as well but I agree with fifi that it can then be difficult to get them out again. We had DD in bed with us a lot and she is only now a really good sleeper (i.e. goes to sleep no problem and sleeps through the night) at 2.5!

clairey - good luck with the BLW... I tried DS with half a banana this morning - he couldn't really grip it and eat it properly and ended up crying for a BF.... hmmm this might be a LONG LONG road... am also wondering whether I will just give him some purees as well..

cazzybabs - OMG clothkits - that was all I wore as a child - is it really back in fashion? I can't quite believe it could be - i was most certainly not a fashionable child - think corduroy pinafore dresses with woolly peruvian jumpers underneath...

loucee - your DD gets FIVE stories?! We thought we were bad with three!! I hope she knows how lucky she is!

dundee - thanks for asking about my thesis - not much progress (I blame you MNetters for distracting me) but I have to get it done before i can start my dream job in Oxford that i just got so that's an incentive if anything is... how did the milk before bathtime go?

amani - you poor thing, you must be so exhausted, and your poor little dd - i assume you've got cream to use - does it not do any good?

Thanks for all the reassurance re DS's feeds - he was fine on Friday so hopefully he is settling in. I'm sure I'll find something else to worry about next week!

claraquitetirednow · 09/06/2008 10:15

Morning everyone. Have only had time to skim read - I really need to wake dd2 up as she's been asleep for an hour (oops I think she's wakingnow) and I need ot feed her and then do the shopping.

Our latest news is that she's now crawling - mostly backwards and very slowly but it's a whole new ball game as I really can't leave her alone on a bed etc any more. Blah!

She's also 6 months this week so we are starting to introduce some slightly more exciting foods, eg she had weetabix this morning for breakfast as well as a piece of toast and marmite, which she held in her hand and ate herself, clever little thing.

I like the idea of clothkits!! Not sure about courdrouy dresses and peruvian fluffy jumpers though

Right better not leave my poor dd2 in her cot any longer or she might learn to climb out (knowing her!)

Hope you are all having a lovely day in the fab weather, good luck to all of those who are back to work.

skidaddle · 09/06/2008 11:35

wow clara - crawling!!!! You definitely win the most advanced baby award!! I absolutely don't want DS to start crawling yet (and thankfully he is nowhere near) - helpless and immobile is the way I like them

dundeemarmalade · 09/06/2008 11:36

milk before bath not a success.
on friday, dd woke up every 45 mins from 10 o'clock. on saturday we started controlled crying. it almost pains me to say it seems to be working...
off to check out clothkits.

dundeemarmalade · 09/06/2008 11:43

hurrah hurrah hurrah clothkits do smiley lion dungarees! in sensible (not pink or blue) colours! shame they only start from age 1, which means our v. little lo probably won't fit into them before she's 3

claraquitetirednow · 09/06/2008 13:47

Skid - I think Claireybee's ds started backward crawling a week or two ago so I think he has pipped us to the post! I agree, the longer she can stay immobile the better. But on the other hand she seems VERY pleased with herself for her new trick, which has made her a little less frustrated.

On the downside, we are having to use a dummy again. We got rid of it about 2 months ago but lately the crying every time I put her down was getting really bad. So I have bought some full on proper size dummies and they work a treat. I have also got a dummy clip to try and encourage her to find it in the night so we don't have to keep going in. Having said that she had spat it out when we went to bed last night so I put it on the side. Apart from a bit of coughing in the night, she didn't stir until 5.30am (when we got her back to sleep for another hour). After a few bad nights while we have been away staying with friends over the weekend I am very

ok the clothkit clothes (and dolls!) look gorgeous - but do you need to be able to sew well/have a sewing machine to do them?

OP posts:
fifisworld · 09/06/2008 15:55

Just a quick post to say..im doing really well with my 2 plus bf's dd, we've even managed a picnic in the garden..anyone else want to bring there lo's over??

cazzybabs · 09/06/2008 16:24

I think you probably have to have a sewing machine. My mum helped me with me (I have zero sewing ability) bit I think if you have a little sewing ability you could. You need to be able to hem, do button holes but the rest of fairly straight forward

cazzybabs · 09/06/2008 16:25

dundee - the sizes are defialty on the small size. The dress I made for dd2 only just fits and she is on the 25%.

Re: crawling - Evie can commando crawl and has strated to do 1-2 crawls forward

Amani · 09/06/2008 16:28

Afternoon all,

Hope you and your LOs are well. Things have improved marginally with DD2, instead of being awake for a 3 hr block now, it's been reduce to 1 hour. Think I'm going to start up a thread on eczema support (keep saying I will, but never get a chance) just to see how other mother cope especially in the warm weather - it's the wrap them up so they don't scratch themselves (even if they wear gloves) or let them wear whatever despite the risk of itching themselves silly.

Clara well done on your LO on crawling. How amazing.

Was going to reply to everyone, but can hear DD2 waking up...

will try to come on later and get that thread started....

BouncingTurtle · 09/06/2008 19:48

Bad mummy alert
Propped ds up on the sofa turned my back and next think I know he is on the floor screaming his head off
Luckily he is ok - more shocked than hurt. But feel so so so so so guilty. I literally took my eyes off him for a second, poor baby.
Gave him a cuddle he calmed right down, checked him over and he looks fine - he didn't fall very far, fortunately.
I was shaking though, kept thinking it could have been so much worse.

kelbel · 09/06/2008 20:30

hi all, been sooo long, still haven't got a replacement charger for laptop, so only getting on when i borrow one from my dad!

have skimmed all the posts

amani - many hugs to you, i was a eczema sufferer from 5 motnths old and looking back i hav soooo much respect for my mam. she really put everything into controlling my eczema, which was really bad, but thanks to her i have fabulous skin now and it is instilled in me to moisturise everywhere morning and night...hence no stretch marks!

BT - poor you, bet you got a shock, i've heard so many storoes like that so please dont feel bad

macdoodle · 09/06/2008 20:48

oh BT poor you - I did some terrible things to DD1 when she was a baby - am hoping am more experienced this time round ....these mobile baby's are hard work Lily was in pram in swimming not strapped in was helping DD1 get changed turned back and she had wriggled right down and was just about to slip under bar onto floor

fifisworld · 09/06/2008 20:55

BT that doesnt make you a bad mummy, its surprising how far they can roll/wriggle.
I remember with ds1, he was sitting in his bouncer chair and had managed to pull himself up and had tipped the chair and was flat to the floor with the chair on top of him

Caz10 · 09/06/2008 21:09

BT read this and feel better!!

we will all do something like that at some point i'm quite sure!

Amani · 09/06/2008 21:16

BT - babies are stronger than you think, please don't feel guilty. I remember when DD1 rolled off the bed when she was 5 months - she cried for a 2 mins and then back to her normal smiles after that.

Would anyone like to add any comments to my thread I've started re:eczema

BouncingTurtle · 10/06/2008 07:23

Thanks all, feel so much better... that thread was so useful, Caz thanks!
Ds is fine, was very unsettled last night, mainly because it was so hot, over 26 deg in our bedroom last night
Had windows open, our bedroom door open, fan going and still very hot. Going to leave the curtains and blinds shut (we have black out liners on our curtains) in the hope they'll keep the heat out. It is supposed to be getting cooler but I think it'll be another hot one.

Daniel is sooo into his baby rice though, not been making huge quantities - about half the quantity suggested on the packet because I'm struggling to express enough milk, takes me ages to express an oz!

BouncingTurtle · 10/06/2008 07:27

[Hmm] appeared to have accidentally posted before I'd finished.
Yesterday was the first day I fed him, DH was off work Thurs and Fri so he has been giving him it after our lunch. But he obviously was looking forward to it because I showed him the bowl and he grinned!!
Absolutely wolfed it down then grabbed the bowl from me and tried to eat it! He kept grinning at me between spoonfuls so he was obviously enjoying it.
Going to try him on some baby porridge later. Need to get some more veggies and fruit as well for him to try.

buzzybee · 10/06/2008 08:59

DD is basically refusing to eat puree - just lets in dribble back out of her mouth. But grabs for anything I'm eating and has a good stab at chewing on bread, cheese etc. I think we're going to end up doing baby lead weaning by default! Can't come fast enough as at the moment my 12 hour a night girl has gone to waking about every hour although I don't get up every time as she sometimes drifts back off again...feel rather exhausted today and tomorrow have to go to work so fingers crossed we have a better night tonight [hopeful emoticon]!

claraquitetirednow · 10/06/2008 10:12

Buzzy - poor you - I still don't know how you do it on your own, you must be made of strong stuff! My dd2 is quite similar - she will eat purees but MUCH prefers doing it herself. She chewed (and swallowed) quite a large piece of toast and marmite this morning. I am sure it's because she can see us all, including her big sis, feeding ourselves so she wants to as well...

Amani - your poor little dd - I do feel for her (and you). I wish I had some advice for your thread but although I had mild eczema as a child (and still do), I don't really know much about treating babies apart from the usual - which you are already doing. A friend of mine's husband has it really badly, to the extent that he is in and out of hospital a lot. Anyway when they had their daughter she breastfed for ages but also really controlled her diet to ensure there wasn't anything she was eating that was affecting her (although I don't think she suffers too badly with it - they also moved to Australia as the weather is better for it). I think they saw a dietician/specialist.

BT - glad your ds is ok but like others say, don't beat yourself up about it - these things happen! My dd2 is on her face on the floor all the time at the moment because all she wants to do is crawl. She still hasn't managed forwards so I am hoping she is going to get too frustrated by it all and give up soon!!!

Wizzska · 10/06/2008 10:24

Hello All, sorry I've not been around for a while, and haven't time to catch up on all I've missed.

Buzzy, your nights sound like ours. DS still not sleeping, waking every hour or so and has been for weeks. He's never been a good sleeper. He's eating his purees though so I don't think its food related. But only his pear and apple. He won't eat savoury food, deep sigh, trouble ahead... I have taken to mixing the savoury into the sweet to get him to eat more different foods.

I can see trouble ahead with separation anxiety too, he's always been a really sociable little thing but he's getting a little clingy to me at the moment, not something I relish.

Amani, eczema is a nightmare, I suffer, especially when stressed and then I get it all over. Luckily I've been ok for a couple of years now but I have to make sure my skin doesn't get dry. I was cured by a Chinese tea, but wouldn't recommend it for babies, goodness knows what's in it. Can't help, only sympathy.

Anyone use cot bumpers? I have a very lively baby and he tosses and turns for ages before getting off to sleep. He usually ends up upside down or sideways in his cot. Last night he got his leg stuck in the bars - big drama!

Amani · 10/06/2008 13:06

Wizzska - my DD2 is the same, turning upside and getting legs trapped and then she cries for ages as a result. I need to get the bumpers out of the attic, but am sure I've read somewhere they shouldn't be used until baby is at least 1 yr (or am I going a bit crazy??)
