Hello all,

Havnt been on for a few weeks. I thought id lost you when i couldnt find the thread.

Henley is 15w now and at his last weigh in he weight 13lb 7oz. Hes put on 7lb since birth. He had his 2nd jab a few week ago and he was fine after this one. Nothing like the first one. He's hitting his milestones. Laughing, cooing, reaching out for things and kicking his legs. He's getting so big very quickly.

Before having him i weighed roughly 12st 7lb. Went up to just over 17st whilst pregnant (i seriously pigged out and eating was the only thing that stopped me being sick). Im now down to 14st 4lb. Still very unhappy with my weight but its coming off slowly. My ideal weigh would be 11st - 11st 7oz but i ve got a long way to go before i get there.

We went to Devon again for the BH weekend. We stayed at Sandy Bay this time. It was fab!! Henley is out of routine again and last night i paid for it. He woke 3 times for his bottle. Im shattered!!

Whilst in Devon i took him swimming. At first he hated it and screamed for ages so we only stayed in for about 10 mins. We took him again the next day and he loved it. DP was even able to go under water with him and it didnt bother him at all. Im going to try and take him once a week now.

Got to dash hes been crying for 10 mins. Hes tired but fighting it. Im going to settle him to sleep and then try and get through this mountain off holiday washing.

leesmum · 27/05/2008 13:32

missnatalie its great to hear from you. It sounds lovely in Devon, it must be nice to get away You are very welcome to join the weight loss club if you fancy it? All of us have extra weight we want to shift, and it WILL come off eventually, dont worry about it. Good luck with your washing!!

Egg firstly WELL DONE on reaching your target weight, and all the other ladies that have had losses this week
It appears you will have a full house, does your sister live far from you? How is your Ds1 now? was it a bug or just "one of them things" I bet you are shattered aren't you love? i hope you manage to catch up on some sleep?

Has anyone else's lo become really unsettled? James is still having 2 bottles of formula a day and being BF the rest of the time. He used to have a pretty good routine of going about every 3hrs between feeds and waking in the night at 2am and then about 5am and this was after being asleep from 7.30pm. Well it appears to have gone right out of the window in the last week or so, he is constantly wanting the boob and can't seem to go for more than an hour, and waking up at 11,2,5 through the night, he will be 19 weeks this weekend and we sailed through the growth spurt at 16 weeks. Could this be another one?

leesmum · 27/05/2008 13:50

OOHHH ladies there is a Due Feb 09!!! thread already. wow it doen't seem that long ago since us lot first posted on the ante-natal threads xx

Haylstones · 27/05/2008 14:10

Hello all
Trying to stave off half term boredom today. Since Sat we've been swimming twice, soft play once, round to a friends and we'[ve just spent the morning meandering round the shops. Dd is now relaxing in front of cbbc before we go to a teddy bears picnic...the joys!
Ds still doing ok, teething seems to be easing off thankfully but he's still waking up twice a night . Nothing compared to you Egg . Dh is sleeping in spare room atm so if ds has been unsettled he comes in between 6 and 7 and takes him until he leaves for work at 8.30- good compromise I think! Often I wake up and ds is lying beside me in bed so obviously at some point in the night I've decided I'm too tired to put him back in his cot and so plonked him on top of the duvet. Yesterday, however, I wole up with ds, dd and 5 baby dolls beside me...seriously freaked me out a bit!
Off for extremely dirty nappy change now- yum!

rozzyraspberry · 27/05/2008 14:22

Just wrote a really long post which was lost when mumsnet were fixing a problem and the server was down!!

Basically - sorry you had a bad night beany and egg - hopefully tonight will be better. Good that your dd is eating better although unfortunate that she decided she wanted more on a night where your other 2 were up more!

Leesmum - My lo has never really followed the 'typical' times for growth spurts so I'm sure this is what's happening with you at the moment. I hope it passes quickly.

Sarah - well done to your dh for getting another job so quickly.

Missnat - nice to hear from you. Don't beat yourself up about the weight issue - you've lost a lot already and will get there eventually.

Lucyand2 · 27/05/2008 15:14

Oh Egg, I thought my night had been bad! I hope you get some sleep soon, it is awful being sleep deprived when you've got babies to look after!
DD2 refused to go to sleep until 11pm last night, usually she's great but I found myself having to put her down about 7 times before she'd drop off. Even then she woke up and whinged for a bit before nodding off.She woke at four, then at 5.30 and again at 7am before I forced myself out of bed. Usually she's awake at 2am aswell! I am determined for her to sleep in her own bed and not let her fall asleep feeding!!!
She's also eating lots and very hard to keep happy so I'm assuming it's another dreaded growth spurt.
I'm finding it hard to cope with all this and moving house but nevermind, we'll get there eventually. I just wish people would phone me back when I leave messages twice over

tyaca · 27/05/2008 15:19

rozzy, such a pain when you lose a long message. and then there's the terrifying possibilty of the internet not coming back for ageees. guarenteed to bring me out in a cold sweat. at your 25m (and impressed obvs too). think i've done something to my achilles as havent been able to run now for a fortnight. trying to be good and not start again til it's better. frustrating as have put on a pound during a v lazy week and DH bought me some fab sports headphones for my b-day on friday which am dying to use.

leesemum, bean and egg - sry you've had hard night. hopefully a v v temporary blip.

sarah - that's great news re your DH. will you still carry on working?

bessie - you sound v organised, esp with the same song every night. what song? take it it's not hey mickey ?

haylstones, only three more days of H/T after today ... and lol at finding a collection of children and dolls on your bed and no recollection of them getting there.

half term for me means DH is around - really nice to see him getting much more time with dd. he's become a master of spotting her getting tired in the daytime and whisking her off for a nap. he came with us to see health visitor today and was charged with the dressing, undresssing and weighing.... and the wiping esther down after a huge wee that practically left her swimming in the scales.

had a dif HV from normal and made me really appreciate how good my usual one is. this one tried to tell me that i should be v strictly feeding amounts as per formula instructions for her age. so that's five feeds a day which is nuts as she's gaining exact right weight week by week and doing fine. keen to get her taking more less frequently, but HV's blanket approach "it's like paracetomol, you must follow the advice on the packet re no. of feeds" seemed obtuse to say the least. then was concerned that dd couldnt turn over "not even onto her side?" ah heck, all well meaning i guess but rankled me a bit.

mitfordsisters · 27/05/2008 20:19

DH has texted to say he is back in half an hour, which is my cue to rush around the house picking up all my old socks, dirty plates and sweep everything into a cupboard. I think he hankers after a 50s housewife in a frilly pinny - ha ha - sadly he got me.

Egg,are you sleeping now - blimmin hope so.

Haylstones - i dream every night that ds is in bed with me or in my arms then wake up to see he's in his basket.

He has cried a lot today - reaction to 2nd lot of injections. But now he sleeps.

Tyaca, I've lost the Regent's Park meetup thread - could you post a link? Re husbands and childcare, my dh always says 'is he hungry?' every time ds cries, which leads me to believe either dh is not very observant or else thinks I'm trying to starve the little mite

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 27/05/2008 21:23

hi All,

Tyaca- yeah i will keep working, i am actually really enjoying it- although its a rush and a long day i am liking my job!!!

Have also lost bout 3lb in weight too!!!!

Hope everyone gets a good n ights sleep

beansprout · 28/05/2008 08:16

Mitford - "is he hungry?" is dh's code for "can you sort him out?"

leesmum · 28/05/2008 08:48

Morning Beany my Dp just comes straight out with it and says "i think you'd better take him" I just don't think some men recognise the cue's, and they start flapping just because the babys having a cry...yes that's what babies do!

Sarah well done on the weight loss, are you on a particular diet or just cutting down a bit?

Mitford how is Ds now after his injections? we have the BCG next week and then thats it till the MMr at 13months.

Tyaca don't take everything your HV says as gospel. They dont know your baby like you do, and don't worry i'm sure Esther will be rolling around all over the place soon.

Hi rozzy, yeah i'm sure james is having another growth spurt. How are you coping with yours Lucy?

Who's watching the footy tonight, i know its only a friendly but i'm missing the footbal already, and we're not in Europe

beansprout · 28/05/2008 09:25

Ds2 is nowhere near rolling and he is, er, 19 weeks?

Lucyand2 · 28/05/2008 10:03

Last feed at 10pm, up again at 2am, woken by thunder around 3am, up for another feed at 4am, up again at 6.30 for a feed then finally got woken for the day at 7.30am by both DD's and DP with a cup of tea.
I've got 2 removal firms round and a carpet cleaning company visiting today so I must stay awake (I'm off to drink more coffee now)

Lucyand2 · 28/05/2008 10:05

No rolling here either, DD2 just lies there crying in the skydiving position until I pick her up again. She's 16 weeks as far as I remember

Arhian · 28/05/2008 10:08

Hi all,
Haven't posted in a while. DD now 12wks, had her 2nd lot of injections yesterday. We thought we were ok as she seemed fine all day after them (not like the 1st lot), that was until I went to give her her 10'o'clock feed, and she was burning up. She was not happy at being stripped down to her nappy, and sicked up some of her calpol. Didn't get her back to sleep till midnight. Luckily she slept ok till 8, she still feels a bit warm, but is quite happy. She's sat playing with her bib at the moment and hiding her face with it.

What type of lotion/oil are u all using on your LO? Can't use Johnsons on DD as it caused a rash, currently using one of my body lotions on her, which she likes, but its expensive and I'm starting to run low. Just wondered what everyone else was using.

sallyforth · 28/05/2008 10:16

hello everyone!

I haven't posted for a few days as have been busy trying to exorcise my breastfeeding demons (see my Critique please thread in the breast and bottle feeding forum)

The weather here is GRIM. This is a right arse as DH has the car and so it means trekking out with brolly getting blown inside out etc if I want to get out of the house.
Trouble is, I HAVE to get out every day or I go completely crazy, since DH's idea of coming home early is after 9pm

So is it half term atm? I have no clue about these things.

On the subject of DHs and childcare, I am teaching DH to recognise his hunger cues by answering "is he hungry?" with a list of questions (Is he looking for your nipple? etc) DH is now learning that if he pre empts these questions I will take LO off his hands sooner

Princess - hope you are feeling better now

Egg - glad your DD is feeding better again. if you are wondering re reflux you could mix infant gaviscon in with her milk and see if she drinks more. am v that you have reached your target weight. I on the other hand seem to be putting weight on again Hope it is not too chaotic with your sis and kids around. Wish my sister had kids, I think it would be ace. I have to remember not to try and persuade her as I know that it is an irritating habit of new mums to assume that babies are the solution to the world's problems

Beany - your ds2 is adorable! if boys grow more like their mums as they get older, ds is in trouble... people are already saying he has my nose, poor thing

Bessie - I definitely agree with your philosophy on sleeping. "Never wake a sleeping baby" is what I say, together with "Be grateful for small mercies"!

Sarah - CONGRATS on your DHs new job. You must be very happy esp about the pay rise! Good for you for carrying on with your job as well.

Missnatalie - how cool re your DS swimming. I would like to take DS swimming but get too scared I will drown him! having had "babies can drown in 1cm of water" drummed into me from an early age by my mum! (I used to help bath my little sister)

leesmum - hello again - another growth spurt??? sounds more than likely! we're mix feeding too. what times do you give the formula bottles? I give one late morning and one early evening, still not sure I have got this quite right...

Haylstones - how funny re the baby dolls!

tyaca - what a crappy HV! its amazing what different advice you get from the different HV isn't it? I've seen 3 and now I just take the advice I agree with and ignore the rest (smiling and nodding politely of course ). Anyway DS is happy so I must be doing something right!

sallyforth · 28/05/2008 10:19

Oh hi Arhian. Have to confess I am not using any lotion on DS at all. We have the most allergic family ever so I didn't use anything for first 6 weeks as we were recommended but his skin still seems fine without anything. Saving me a small fortune!!

beansprout · 28/05/2008 11:48

No lotions here either, I don't think they need them tbh although Johnsons are happy to tell us otherwise

gingermumi · 28/05/2008 14:38

just popping in, have been v busy this last week(things like washing machine breaking down, baby monitor stopping working, dd1 wanting to buy a car (OMG) etc... all needing sorting and taking twice as long with a teething toby!), haven't had time to catch up on posts so will have a try later. Have borrowed a washing machine but it smalls odd (came from an elderly aunt's house). can't wait for new one! Covered by insurance but they don;t seem to think it's urgent! Hope all well.

gingermumi · 28/05/2008 14:42

That should be dd2! dd1 has a car already! dd2 got a car, first driving lesson tomorrow (stay off the road between 8am and 10am if you live in SE Hants!!!). Dh wont take her out to practice until after her first lesson so she is itching to get out in it! I refuse to take her, didnt take dd1 either- i would probably be arrested for murder!!

leesmum · 28/05/2008 16:20

Isn't our Sally clever, have a read if you have time, and let her know how brill she is!

Sally what a brilliant read- you wrote that so well- and definately from the heart- i chose not to bf both of my DC's as i never felt i had enough support etc but reading your article makes me rethink my decisions- (i do not regret the though just think differently)

It was so informative and will be of great benefit to all new mothers,

Well done xxxx

Hi all.

Hang in there growthspurters!! We're away next weekend and I'm crossing everything that I don't get hit with a growth spurt whilst we're away.

I generally don't use any lotions either. However ds3 had dry skin when he was born and both the midwife and hv recommended grapessed oil (this is also what we were given to use at baby massage). I think you can get baby grapeseed oil in boots but the stuff for cooking is just the same. Tesco do an organic one at £1.65 for 1 litre so a very economic option!

Ds3 also nowhere near rolling over. I thought that usually happened at around 4 months rather than 3?

We've had a good day today. Lo has been pretty grumpy for what seems like forever, but in actual fact is only 4 or 5 days, but has been really happy today! We've had lots of really slimy nappies and drooling so more signs of teething. Dh took the older 2 to nursery this morning and ds3 had a nap and I was just pottering around without the tv or radio on. Complete silence - was absolutely lovely!! Ds1 and ds2 only have one volume - LOUD, and even ds3 is giving them a run for their money on the squealing front lately!!! So it was nice to have some peace for a change even though it was short lived!

Lucy - how are you? Have you done another pregnancy test yet?

Tyaca - thats a pain that you've hurt yourself - does your gym have a pool you could use?

Ginger - I was not very popular with my parents when I was learning to drive - it didn't come naturally to me shall we say!

mitfordsisters · 28/05/2008 21:53

Leesmum, thanks for concern re. ds injections. We had a really low key day - lots of cuddles and not much else, and today he is fine.

Beansprout, lol at 'can you sort him out'. I think that's what my dh is trying to say too.

Sally, I thought the section about reflexes was interesting - I remember the head-bobbing and cycling limbs from ds' early days. I have wondered if their smiles are programmed behaviour too, to guarantee that we will love and care for them.
