Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
tyaca · 23/05/2008 16:25

cheers for update egg. sounds like your gp quick off the mark. re the guidelines ... are those the ones on side of box cause they always strike me as insane - 5 feeds a day for a 2wk old and 150 per feed for a 4 wk old? fyi - dd nowhere near that much. also was chatting to my sil whose dd drinking lots less of late and her maternity nurse (yup, the one from california who has no returned in a "supporting rather than supervisry role... so she can catch up with facials and restuarants" and " sorry, digress)... anyway, Mat Nurse says some babies feed lot less in warm weather.

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 23/05/2008 16:34

Egg- glad to hear GP will get appt for you soon- i hope all is well with DD. How are you DS's doing????

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 23/05/2008 16:35

Oh BTW meant to say i ahve added some cute pics !!!!! if anyone is interested-

OP posts:
tyaca · 23/05/2008 16:38

oooh, lovely pics sarah. what a cutie in the bumbo - think i'm getting one. lol tho' you should update your profile, currently says you not working but want to!

Egg · 23/05/2008 16:42

Yep those guidelines were always a bit odd, most babies would never be on FIVE feeds a day by age 2-4 weeks, but honestly they say for 2-4 weeks that the average baby would have 5 feeds of 4oz water and 4 scoops, which makes a feed of approx 4.5oz (130ml). She has 6 feeds a day, but usually refuses at least one of them, and never has more than 110ml. Plus the fact that she CRIES ALL BLOODY DAY AND NIGHT (well not all night, but a bit of it!).

DS2 is a PITA although a smiley happy boy. He takes an hour for each feed though, constantly knocking the bottle out of his mouth and messing about, but then cries when I stop trying. Grrr.

Am off to look at Sarah's new pics. I have added some too .

rozzyraspberry · 23/05/2008 17:26

Sounds like you're having a bit of a nightmare at the moment egg. Hopefully you'll get to see the paed soon. Have they considered lactose intolerance? As for ds2 he's probably just at a nosey stage - is he on the fast flow teats? It's probably one of these things that wouldn't be so much of a problem if you only had one baby but is a real pita when you have 2 to care for especially with your worries about dd. Gorgeous pics btw - ds1 looks very cute - trendy hairstyle!

ds3 is being very drooly and chewing everything in site at the moment. No sign of teeth though - I think he's just exploring things! Will be a nightmare when he's mobile as ds1 and ds2 play with tiny bits of lego and magnets all the time - perfect mouth size.

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 23/05/2008 17:32

Egg- they are gorge- but she is tiny comaprted to her bro- love you pushchair too!!!!

off to change profile then going to work !!!!

OP posts:
Egg · 23/05/2008 17:37

DS1's hair just grows like that! We don't style it, it just seems to stick up!

DS2 can't handle the fast flow teats. I keep trying every day or so but we have to give up as he ends up stopping after every two mouthfuls spluttering and needing to burp. He is definitely way too interested in what is going on, if I take him up to the bedroom he feeds better but even if he feeds consistently he still takes 25 mins or so and I feel bad going upstairs all the time and leaving DS1 (he can come with me but doesn't want to unless I am going to play with him).

DD has been quite sweet this pm, but not eaten. She keeps crying like she is hungry, so I offer her the bottle, then she says no thanks actually. She has managed 40ml in the last hour. I will persevere. Feeling happier now since it is only an hour til DH is home for THREE WHOLE DAYS.

beansprout · 23/05/2008 17:59

Oh lovely Egg, you sound really down and no wonder. Glad you will have the support of DH for a few days. I really hope DD picks up her feeding soon.

Rozzy - I also have a ds2 who is showing distinct signs of teething.....

Sarah - lovely pics!

Saskia - great to hear from you. Sorry for being dense, but why do you have a consultant paed if there is nothing wrong? Will you have additional check ups?

Ds1 needs my attention every 10 seconds atm, which is, ahem, a bit much!!!! Sigh. Dh up in Manc doing some blardy tv stuff so, get this ladies, I have to do double bedtime because fecking Gyles Brandreth was late today. Boy, dh owes me one....!!!!

Egg · 23/05/2008 18:06

I never liked Giles Fecking Brandreth anyway .

I am so much happier when DH is here to help with bedtime.

beansprout · 23/05/2008 18:07

Me too, on both counts!!

Egg · 23/05/2008 18:10

Oooh talking of tv stuff, did I mention I may be FAMOUS soon? Meridien tv are doing a feature on doulas and my doula has done an interview and they want to interview people she has worked with. God I will have to tidy the house!

beansprout · 23/05/2008 18:12

Ooooh fab!!!

Gill79 · 23/05/2008 18:41

Malcolm has just gone bump I let him roll off the bed . He was not very impressed. And we're at PILs so even more . Just felt so awful when I saw him on the floor. He seems ok although how can you spot concussion in someone who sleeps and vomits a lot?

Glad scan went ok Bean and Egg - really hope your DD starts to eat a bit more. Must be worrying for you, frustrating cause you can't force them.

Lucy -I had a smear a few weeks ago and it was normal.

tyaca · 23/05/2008 18:50

bean - when you have finished double-bed-timing, pls explain what giles b has to do with anything

tyaca · 23/05/2008 18:58

at "how can you spot concussion in someone who sleeps and vomits a lot?" - you ok gill?

Egg · 23/05/2008 19:36

Gill hope little Malcolm is ok. I know what you mean about spotting the concussion, but am sure he is ok if he seems fine now.

Off to drink copious amounts of beer in front of Eastenders shortly . DH is home and babies are asleep. HURRAH. Poor DD, she looks so pathetic sleeping, her hair is falling out, she is scabby, runty, she sleeps with her mouth open... Bless her, she is so cute .

beansprout · 23/05/2008 19:45

Hurrah! Both in bed!!

Gyles B should be shot. He is a twunt of the highest order. Nuff said.

Gill - sorry to hear about Malcolm. We've all done it though. I allowed ds1 to fall, wait for it, onto his face and cut his lip open, wait for it.... on our honeymoon!! Well done me!!
Am not sure what the answer is to your question but would say that if it was just bed height and he simply rolled onto the floor, he's probably fine. If he caught anything on the way down or you can see an injury to his head, it might be worth a call to NHS Direct, just to be on the safe side. Hope you are ok.

rozzyraspberry · 23/05/2008 20:10

Gill - ds1 somersaulted off our bed when he was a baby - in true slow motion style! I suppose the knock to the head might explain the naked space hoppering the other night when I was trying to get him into the bath. Ds2 had stitches when he was 18 months old (after spinning around to make himself dizzy then falling into the front door hinge). Just missed his eye but was spinning around making himself dizzy again by bedtime!! I was at work at the time so I can blame dh for that. Ds2 is incredibly clumsy though.

Beany - I've never bf a baby with teeth. DS2 got teeth just after I stopped feeding him at 6 months. Might need your advice/support when it happens as I definitely intend to keep bf for longer this time. If ds3 was a little older I would definitely say he was teething - he even has a rosy cheek! He's not even 15 weeks though so I think it'll be a bit longer. DS1 teethed at 20 weeks, ds2 at 6 months.

Egg - 25 mins for a feed isn't too bad since he's having quite a lot each feed isn't he? Having dh there will definitely ease the pressure for you - it always helps just having someone there with you doesn't it?
DH works 4 days on, 4 days off and I have to do bath/bed by myself when he's working. I love it when he's not working - it's so much nicer

Gill79 · 23/05/2008 20:25

yes I'm fine. Malcolm has cried, slept, fed, played and cried again so I'm fairly happy. Also onto wine glass number two hmm could be another formula night. (BTW am now doing 12 hours between feeds at night and my boobs are FAB in the morning - would seriously consider some surgical intervention later in life I think).

One of my friends had so many mishaps with her newborn DD the HV told her to be more careful and when we were out the other day her DS's head (15 months) went SMACK onto a metal bar on the floor IN A PUB and she wasn't the slightest bit concerned so will follow her lead and chill.

Happy weekend all.

BTW Egg hope your 15 minutes of fame will be on youtube

princessllama · 23/05/2008 21:28

having a crap time here.ferdie seems to be in pain more and more of the time. didn't get any lunch yesterday or day before because couldn't put him down as he was crying so much. meanwhile hope has becoming a real handful since tuesday am when she had her vaccination. horrible and really embarrassing as she has tantrum after tantrum and cries if her brother is being held-so you can imagine what it's like now that he's being held so much. to top it all i saw the top guy for reflux with ferd on thursday and he said quit bf him as he is allergic to breast milk. so have had to go cold turkey on bf. i am in agony. was hand expressing to relieve pain when possible but have now found out that stimulates milk production. so now sitting here pumping. first time today feel a bit more comfortable and not sick anymore. has been so bad that have wanted to scream each time the kids need to be picked up. meanwhile yesterday dh spent day arsing round crewe and partying after result til 3am (nice one, half an hour before ds woke). today he was arsing around at newmarket on a work jolly whilst i spent the day int tears at home. i really hate politics right now. he sent me some flowers. left him a vile message on his phone saying i didn't want ffing flowers wanted him to help at home.
the good news is that he has volunteered to do both feeds tonight (and i'm not feeding so don't have to) and he said he'll look after them both tomorrow at some point so i can sleep. even better news i can now eat buckets of chocolate as don't have to do bf. and dairy free.
rant over sorry v long. i'm sure things will get better once ferdie responds to new meds and my boobs go less pammie.
gill sounds like you have it under control with malcom.
glad scan went ok bean
rozzy you're hardcore-looking after all 3 on your own 4 days on.
sarah -my dh pulls that kind of trick too. not on at all.
leesmum thanks for support re bf on other thread.
tyaca big sympathies with selling flat dramas-estate agents are bs.
egg, can't imagine how tough you've got it at the moment, dealing with 1 a bit like that. i know lots of people offer advice all time, but does sound like your dd might have milk intolerance and silent reflux. kids with reflux often only want little feeds but often. and scream alot and refuse to feed because of pain and not want to be put down. also, 40% of babies with reflux have a milk intolerance. my dd had green poo with mucous in it before we took her off norm formula. other key signs are gagging and coughing, choking, arching back and screaming, crying after being left on back for a few minutes. i have loads of tips if you want them if you think it is reflux. feel like the queen of reflux after 2 in under 2 years . the top man is dr mike thompson -he has a helpful website, sorry not sure of address but can get it if you want.

sorry everyone. vvvv long post
have a great weekend.

beansprout · 23/05/2008 21:33

Oh PL, that sounds so, so hard. Really hope dh looks after you big time after the time you have had lately. Take care of yourself.

rozzyraspberry · 23/05/2008 22:22

Sounds like you've had a bit of a crap time of it PL - I think you should be really proud of yourself for bf for so long with all the problems you've had with it. It must be a relief of sorts that the decision has been taken out of your hands and you can move on without any guilt or regret. I don't think a breast pump stimulates milk production nearly as much as a baby does so pumping off a little to make yourself more comfortable won't do any harm. I think I've given a false impression of my parenting skills in my last post. When dh does his 4 days on he does 2 dayshifts (when he doesn't see the kids) then 2 nightshifts where he's out from 5pm until 9am. So although he's not there for bath/bed or breakfast time he's there for the rest of the day so I have it easy really. I'm not sure I would cope with him having a mon-fri 9-5 job because I'm used to having him here with me during the day 6 days out of 8.

Gill - 12 hour stretches at night - what's your secret? I'm lucky if I get a 4 hour stretch!!

Lucy - forgot to say earlier - good luck with the pregnancy test next week. Are you making sure you're eating enough? I always find I feel sick when I'm really hungry.

Anyway ds has just been up for his last feed so I must sleep before his next feed. Take care allxx

Haylstones · 24/05/2008 10:37

Gosh this is a busy thread! Glad that on the whole everybyody is OK. Egg, hope things pick up soon and Princessllama, hopefully you will turn a corner soon.
Ds has been a bit grizzly for a couple of days- he's definitely teething as I can see 2 teeth poking through the gum and I suspect he's also going through a growth spurt (impossible as it seems for him to get much bigger!).
rozzyraspberry, i bf dd until 18 months with lots of teeth and it never affected feeding so you'll be fine
Hope everyone has a good weekend. I'm off to swing park toamuse dd

beansprout · 24/05/2008 10:53

Rozzy - b/feeding with teeth can be daunting but it's really ok. I found the initial stages much more painful than anything that ever happened with teeth. They might give you a nip but your (quite natural reaction) of F*CKING HELL THAT HURTS ouch! will soon teach them not to do that. And of course, like everything else, the teeth don't all appear overnight so it's a gradual process. It'll be fine!!

Egg and PL - how are you both today?

Am resolving to be a better mummy today. I was a cow with ds1 yesterday, so much for worrying about him, I was just a bossy mare all day, poor sod.

Does anyone have any good plans for the BH weekend?
