tyaca · 20/05/2008 23:16

hey there jay ... was wondering where you'd got to.

Bessie123 · 21/05/2008 08:43

Good morning. It's so nice to catch up with you all again.

I am just snatching some time while LO sleeps. She woke up at 2.22 and then 3.46 and then 5.30 this morning. I really want to go and have a nap now, but if I do I know I will end up getting nothing done with the day, like yesterday when DD and I basically slept all day

Lucy - I had a pg scare about a month ago. So relieved when it was negative.

Can anyone tell me about when is safe to start weaning? I know the general advice is 4 - 6 months, but my mum seems to think I should be giving dd baby rice already (she is 3 months old) because she has largely stopped sleeping through the night. I am getting her weighed tomorrow, but I should think she is about 15lb -ish (she was 13lb 4oz 4 weeks ago)

What do you think?

leesmum · 21/05/2008 08:51

hi Jay how are you? (busy i bet!)

Bessie i would get in bed with lo if i was you, all the other jobs can wait

And as for weaning i think 3 months is a bit young yet, but all babies are different and you will know when she is ready. Talk it through with your health visitor. xxx

leesmum · 21/05/2008 08:53

And guess which silly cow went for a smear on mon only to be told i'm a year early!!!and not due for one till march next year

tyaca · 21/05/2008 09:14

hehe leesmum. did they do it anyway? i think once i'd got myself there and psyched i'd have insisted on it

hi bessie, sounds like you had a similar day to me yesterday - so tired i went to bed for aaggeesss. and it was great! i figure that once my dd has brothers// sisters i will be crazy busy from now til when they leave home, so i appreciate every moment at the moment. i know nothing of weaning. except that if you give 'em soup it should be homemade

Haylstones · 21/05/2008 09:14

Hello all, can i join you at this late stage? I've got a 4yo dd and ds was born in Feb. He's gorgeous (of course, aren't they all) and pretty big- nearly 19lb yesterday at 12 weeks . Am still exclusively breastfeeding despite lots of comments about his size and him allegedly needing solids soon - he's nowhere near ready!
Will have a scan through the posts now, expect there's lots to read!

tyaca · 21/05/2008 09:17

welcome haylstones. seeing as we have already decided that we collectively have the cutest and cleverest babies around - sounds like your ds will fit right in

Egg · 21/05/2008 09:24

Welcome haylstones .

Think I am not due a smear til next year as think I had one a few months after DS1 was born. Phew for another 12 months...

I would definitely sleep when your baby does if you can. I used to all the time with DS1 and can't now unless all three are asleep at same time for more than a few mins, which rarely happens any more.

HV coming at 10am to check out DD and weigh babies. 19lbs at 12 weeks is VERY impressive.

I will not be weaning until at least 5 months, but hoping to wait til 6. I think DD will definitely wait til 6 but not sure about DS2. He is clearly having a growth spurt at the mo (delayed 16 week one I guess as he was 3 weeks early and is now 19 weeks). He is having over 10oz (over 300ml) at each feed. DD still having about 100ml .

Haylstones · 21/05/2008 09:30

Fair play Egg, I'm amazed you cope! I find it hard enough with 2 and dd is at playgroup or preschool every day. She is out till 5pm today so I'm going to go into town and buy a new party outfit then snuggle with ds for a nap.
I'm also going to wait until 6 months if I can. We're going on hols just as he will be 6 mmonths so it's tempting to wait until we get back . Despite having done it before I've forgotten everything so I have bought 3 Annabel Karmel books in preparation so reading them is also ont he list of activities today!

tyaca · 21/05/2008 09:32

wow egg, i had not realised that the difference between how much your dt are drinking was so big.

dd (whose due date is only a week or so after yours i think? tho' dammit she held on...) does sometimes neck 180 or so but a 100-120ml feed isnt that unusual, esp in daytime as opposed to middle of night or first thing in the hnugry morning. she's tootling happily along the 9th percentile growth line, so sure its fine.

Egg · 21/05/2008 09:33

We are on hols when babies turn 5 months and I am determined they will not be having anything other than milk while there as I just can't be a**ed!

My fave (and DS1's fave) Annabel Karmel recipe is the sweetcorn chowder thing. He used to love it. It came with some bowls tho, not in a book and I have no idea where it is now or what goes into it. Cheese and potato and sweetcorn is all I remember!

Haylstones · 21/05/2008 09:36

If I come across it in my 3 AK books (plus old version of one in my cupboard ) I'll let you know.

Gill79 · 21/05/2008 09:52

What weight are yours now Egg? At least no-one's going to mistake DD for her brother!

welcome haylstones - think you might have the biggest baby!

taking a break from dealing with the worst nappy ever. Where does the orange come from? It's not like my milk is bright orange. Spending my morning cleaning poo out from between little toes and creases in the soles of his feet and swilling pooey water around the bath trying to rinse out his nappies what joy. Going swimming again today though so THANK GOD he did it now!

rozzyraspberry · 21/05/2008 13:59

Egg - how'd it go with the HV? Over 10oz at each feed - must be costing you a fortune! I took your advice and took lo's mobile back to mothercare. They took it back no problem even though we didn't have a receipt. Unfortunately they didn't have any in stock at the moment but they're having one sent out to us so we should get it early next week

Haylestones - 19lbs is a great weight. That's 6lbs heavier than my lo was at 12 weeks and I thought he was getting big!

Bessie - my understanding of the 'science' behind when to wean is that there is something that happens within a babies digestive system between 4 and 6 months. So although some babies will be ready at 4 months it's impossible to tell whether they are or not. So to avoid weaning a baby whose digestive system is not ready they advise that you wait until 6 months to start as all babies should be ready then. Milk has more calories than solids so although babies might need to feed more often as milk is more easily digested it should be enough until 6 months when their iron reserves start to diminish. Advice on when to wean has changed a lot over the years - when I was little the advice was to wean at 12 weeks. So there's a lot of differences of opinion between generations. I'm with those who are planning to what as long as possible before starting. As well as the health reasons I am lazy and hoping that more breast milk = less lardy mummy (if said lardy mummy could step away from the chocolate, cakes, ice cream, crisps............).

leesmum · 21/05/2008 16:00

No Tyaca i didn't get smear test after all! and i don't know if its just me but i had another shower just before i went and kept getting baby wipes out as well what is it about going "over the top" with cleanliness before you have a smear?

Egg your son sounds like a contender for "Worlds Strongest Baby 2008" He's really doing well, and he obviously needs it, have you thought about giving him the no.2 milk (the one with more fat in it)

Haylestones you're very welcome i think your son might be challenging Egg's for the baby title!

Gill sounds like you had a narrow escape with the poo

Jaysfinished · 21/05/2008 20:47

hi peeps.

Thought id best join in the banter following my 'wave' the other night!

Seems like everyone is enjoying their bundles! Cooper is a real joy. Always has been TBH. He eats sleeps smiles and poos....very rarely crys, just has the odd moan and grown! I do think hes a bit too laid back for his own good, and i am sure hes going to take forever to 'do' things (roll over, crawl etc etc) but i dont care. Hes my last (i think, shush dont tell DH i said that!!) so i dont care how long he stays a baby! - saying that hes no baby baby, hes up there with the rest of the fat lads, weighing in at 16lbs 3oz and a mere 10wks tomorrow!

Talking of smears.....when i went for my 8 wks check, i was told there and then i was due ( in fact i had been due when i was preg with DS1!!) - So only a year overdue... anyway, it was fine and not too bad at all. Apparently they do it slightly different, they use a different 'tool' its a 'brush' as opposed to a 'spatula' - anyway moving on.....!!!

DD is on her first night of no dummy i have posted in sleep) i feel somehow sorry for her, she loved going to bed with it, it was her comfort and i have taken it away! My poor little girl. Shes gone to bed well, although shes not asleep yet ( went down at 7) i keep hearing her get out of bed and getting a book, but she hasnt come down or cried out for it....bless her. Why do i feel so bad, i never thought i would feel this way - still she did get a trampoline out of it!

Poor DS1 has got major teething issues at the mo. Hes cutting about 5 molars altogether, hes in pain bless him, and has bright red cheeks. on top of that he had his HIB/MEN C on Tuesday which he hated!!

SIGH.... all these things that happen at once!

right off to check my FB page. Is there anyone here that is on FB, if you want to add me, i am Janet Allen. Feel free

Laters xx

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 21/05/2008 22:15

Hi ladies- sorry not been on for a couple of days but going back to work has knocked me for six!!!! i a, so tired- thouigh today i feel better- will get on gere and catch up properly tomorrow- i promise-

Welcome Haylstones-

OP posts:
tyaca · 22/05/2008 08:59

morning everyone.

jay - i remember being bribed to give up my dummy . i got the boardgame guess who - looking back all i can think about is how pleased i was to have it, dont even remember the dummy going. should've upped the stakes now i think about it, a trampoline sounds ace. glad you enjoying every moment with cooper. it's funny every day to think that this is the smallest they'll ever be.

gill -- lol, those battles not to spread the poo further. poor dh had to pin dds arms to her side with one hand while cleaning poo with his other a couple of days ago after she got poo on her hand during a mamoth one. but yes, better out than in.

all ok here. yesterday dd seemed to be training for a sleepathon and spent the best part of the day snoozing happily. we paid for it this morning tho'. she's only just got back down after waking at half four - really unlike her.

beansprout · 22/05/2008 09:04

Welcome Haylstones and hello everyone else.

Gill - oh the joy of poo!! Flailing arms and legs + poo = mini dirty protest. Ds2 is fond of puking mid change too just to keep me on my toes. Might just start leaving him in the garden and give him the occasional wash down with the hose.

Sarah - hope you are not too tired after your return to work.

I am due a smear test but am trying the tried and tested method of sticking my head in the sand and not going. I will of course (have had to have treatment on pre cancerous cells before now) but, ahem, not today!

We are at the hospital again later for ds1's scan. I will not worry. I will not worry. I will not worry. Hard not to though.

Egg · 22/05/2008 09:25

Good luck today Beany .

sarahmikeharryandrosie · 22/05/2008 09:45

Morning all-

Jays- i am on face book too- Sarah Monaghan in west mids!!!! i searched you but there are lots of Janet allens will go and have another look in at sec!!!!

Not feeling to bad today-

DH went to watch the football with some friends and left my DM and DH with the DC's til i got back from work at 9.15- i am a bit annoyed about it as he should be here to look after the DC's when i am at work- Both my parents work full time and mum comes straight here from work to watch the kids until dh gets home then has to go home and cook dinner etc-
so i think he is taking the p**s a little- i knew he was going to watch it and it wasn't a problem but the deal was for him to get them both into bed first- from what i gather he came in had shower and went out!!!!

My parents were ok and are always happy to look after thier only grandchildren, but i feel gulity enough already without this too!!!!

Sorry what a moany post!!!!!

On the plus side all well here- DD is just perfect in every way and we all adore her- however i miss the newborn tiny age already!!!!! She is growing so fast!!!!!!(maybee one more in a couple of year) dont tell dh though!!!!!

Egg · 22/05/2008 09:48

I am never having any more. These two are driving me mad. Esp poor DD. She is eating less and less and has now dropped off the weight chart completely .

Sarah I would be a bit peed off with DH for that too .

beansprout · 22/05/2008 09:50

Oh Egg, that must be worrying. What advice are you getting?

Sarah - I would definitely be peed off with that too. Going back to work must leave you feeling like you are juggling enough as it is without dh playing up too. He owes you one.

Thanks for your good wishes.

tyaca · 22/05/2008 09:54

oh egg. sorry to hear about dd's weight and eating, did your HV have anything helpful to say?

gl bean with the scan. i was due a smear before i was pg - leesmum's post yesterday got me off my ass and have one booked for next week.

dont feel guilt re your parents. it's a bit amiss of your dh, but your parents will prob be ok. my mum and dad would be over the moon to be asked for help ...i think until its proper pisstaking then that's what they're for.
