omy · 05/07/2008 10:21

just sitting here weeping over the keys for you and ferdie Princess xxx Wish we could have been more practical help when you were going through all of that. Thank GOD Ferdie is alright. xxxxx

omy · 05/07/2008 10:23

just have to share some good news! Leila slept THOUGH THE NIGHT last night! - 9pm - 7am - lets hope it wasn't a one off!

princessllama · 05/07/2008 12:58

well done omy what a triumph. especially helpful with having to get up and work.

Egg · 05/07/2008 16:40

Yay good news Omy!

Still not caught up with thread properly but hope everyone is having a nice weekend. Princess hope you and DP are united again and just enjoying spending time with DD and Ferdie.

DD had a better night last night too, nothing great for a "normal" 6 month old but good for my runty one! She made it to 4am and only had 1oz at 10pm. However am sure if we didn't try the 10pm feed she would wake earlier as even though she hardly drank anything she was awake for an hour til 11pm. DS2 made it to 6pm and slept on his tummy for half the night. DS1 started sleeping better once he moved onto his tummy, although DS2 is ok at sleeping anyway, except when he has a cold.

I just ate four Mr Kipling lemon slices on after the other . Am starting healthier eating again from Monday as have less than 2 weeks til I go to Ireland for my best friend's end of PHD dinner. My first night out alone in a loooooooooooooooong time, and a night away from home, no DCs, no DH, and I can sleep for HOURS AND HOURS (but will no doubt have such a hangover I lie awake all night feeling sick).

Egg · 05/07/2008 16:42

Ugh just caught DS2 licking some orange curdled milk puke from his arm [bleurgh]. Looked like a mixture of lunch and milk...

ThursdayNext · 05/07/2008 17:06

Hurrah, Omy, even if was a one off then at least that's one really good nights sleep for you!

Four lemon slices, Egg, that's pretty impressive. I'm feeling slightly queasy on your behalf.

DD has loads of chickenpox spots today and is a bit grumpy, poor love. I'm getting grumpy staying in the house too. DP and DS have gone out though, so at least I'm not trying to entertain DS as well.

Gingermumi, chinchillas are very cute though. Could have been a rat, I suppose.

Leesmum, is your DS1 only 3? Do you think he'll be OK with a full day at nursery? DS is due to start pre-school in September, but it's just 2.5hours like Rozzy.

alkar · 05/07/2008 20:16

No time to read all posts but so glad Ferdie is getting better princess. Your story is horrific, you have been so strong through it all {{{{big hugs}}}}

bovrilsarnies · 05/07/2008 22:55

Princess - Just popping in to say how relieved I am to hear that Ferdie is on the mend!! I know from personal experience how quickly Meningitis can strike and how utterly devistating it can be. Well done you for taking Ferdie in to be checked out and Well done your GP for recognising the symptoms and acting quickly! It doesn't bear thinking about what "might have" happened!! Hopefully your bad dreams will subside on their own - but if you need support, the meningitis research foundation can be ever so helpful with dealing with all the feelings and emotions that you must be going through! and don't forget that we are all here for you too. x

LOVEMYMUM · 05/07/2008 23:05

Princess - so pleased for you all.

MIL needs to get her priorities straight!

LOVEMYMUM · 05/07/2008 23:09

Princess: Have just read your post.
DH had to do a LP on a child and he says it was horrible for the medical staff as well. So relieved that Ferdie is better.

Princess: Post as much and as often as you like about this and anything else. We read and respond (even if I don't post, i read every day or so).

Gill79 · 06/07/2008 01:44

More big kisses for Princess and F (Leesmum you set me off again this morning after your post) I bet all our LOs got extra special cuddles last night. Keep talking to us - you've got a lot to process and put behind you.

Egg I too am starting again on Monday. This week we had PIL for dinner Monday night (2 btls wine + curry), me and DP night out on Tuesday (4 bacardis), lunch out + kebabs + btl wine on Weds, I went out to gallery viewing plus dinner and drinks on Thurs, friend round for dinner and drinks on Friday and tonight another pub night with DP (got in after midnight) I will not be weighing in this week but IT'S BEEN FAB. I can't sleep after drinking either Egg- it's so annoying to be awake at 5am feeling awful and know you're not going back to sleep until 10 minutes before you need to get up. Yuck. Anyway hope you're feeling gorgeous for Ireland and can enjoy it guilt free!

Dragged DP to the local toy library meeting today. It was great and there was lots of singing. LO was the youngest there but he had a lovely time.

Well done on the sleeping through Omy - fingers xd it continues!

Thanks for the interest in the new "do" - it doesn't quite tie back but it's not as annoying as I though it would be. There's a picture at the top of my profile pics as well as a couple of our first beach trip with LO.

Good night all.

leesmum · 06/07/2008 08:17

Omy did Leila sleep through again last night? Hope so and how has it been back at work? I am back at the end of sept and it suddenly seems to be creeping up on me.

Gill love your new haircut i would love something like that but mine is naturally curly and i'm limited what i can do with it, i did try my older sis's straighteners but it took forever and i just don't have that many spare hours in the day!!!

Gill and Egg i too have gone off the rails a bit where weight loss is concerned, i haven't put any on but i'm getting bored with "being good" i need inspiration

Thursday DS1 will be 4 in Oct and he has been at nursery for 2 days a week since Jan and loved it, so i'm hoping he takes to school alright. The nursey teacher has told us that we can take however long it takes to settle them in so if that means he does half days for a couple of weeks then fair enough.

beansprout · 06/07/2008 09:22

Hi everyone, sorry I haven't been here for so long. Have been away and we were just really busy before we went what with flat being on the market and lots of other stuff.

Princess - so, so glad that F is ok, and so sorry you have been through such an ordeal. As Gill (wisely) said, please keep talking, as much as you need to. I know how much I have been affected by much less upsetting incidents. Big, big hug to you and a little kiss for your lovely F.

Ds1 has now had the all clear from the doc, but we have to go back this week for one last check.

Will now try and catch up with this thread!!

leesmum · 06/07/2008 09:31

Hi Beany great to hear from you

Good news that Ds1 has got the all clear, how is Ds2 doing? x

sallyforth · 06/07/2008 13:16

Hmmm.
I took this test on Friday and got 12
Took it today and got a 10
Both times the screen went red and told me to go see my doctor!!!

spose I'd better ring them on Monday then

omy · 06/07/2008 13:25

Beany! Hi stranger - nice to hear from you! So glad your DS1 is better.

Well last night LO woke at 3am for a feed - I tried to ignore her in the hope that she might get the hint - but I fed her in the end. Once a night I can handle and she is so good at going straight back to sleep.

My weight has got a bit out of hand too - but I was cycling to work this week and I felt so much better for it. It was a challenge finding anything to wear to work as my clothes are all so tight! Elasticated skirts rock! I refuse to buy new bigger clothes - hopefully the embarrassment of popping out will spur me into losing weight!

Gill - toy library sounds fun. And sounds like you are having fun too!!

Leesmum - it's great that your DS1 is loving nursery - I'm sure he will flourish at school too.
Work was actually quite fun - the end of term is always chilled. LO has to come up to school for a feed as she is not keen on bottles - something I will HAVE to sort out well before September! I am slack about sorting it as I love breastfeeding and bottles are such a faf. Also I don't want to have to give up breastfeeding altogether though that is probably what I will have to do.... The other 2 DDs refused to try bottles until that is all that was on offer!

omy · 06/07/2008 13:35

Sally! You must be being too hard on yourself! No harm is going to see the doc. xxx Hope that you can repeat the test real soon and get a LOW score!! Big hugs!

Egg · 06/07/2008 13:59

Sally I just did the test and scored 16 . I honestly don't think I have PND though, am struggling a bit at the mo but am fine most of the time, just have low moments esp when on my own trying to juggle all three and have DTs screaming and DS1 shouting at me and I am exhausted. Do you feel crappy all of the time? Or most of the time, or just sometimes?

However as Omy said, might be worth speaking to your HV or doc as definitely best to get it sorted if you do think there is a chance you have PND.

Gill, DS1 and I loved our local toy library. NOt sure if there is one round here. It's a great place to go as safe for little ones and so many TOYS to play with!

Egg · 06/07/2008 14:02

Welcome back Beany! SO glad you are ok and also good news about DS1 too .

Got to go and feed DD now, she has been very good today .

sallyforth · 06/07/2008 14:41

Thanks omy and egg...

To answer your question egg, I feel crappy some of the time - almost always when by myself in the house.

I don't think I have PND bad enough to need meds or anything but am EXTREMELY worried about how I will manage when going back to work in Sept. Probably connected to not wanting to go back, but needing the money...

Egg · 06/07/2008 15:55

I really only ever cry when it's just me and DCs. Although sometimes at weekends when DH drives me mad and I am tired, but usually when I feel overwhelmed. But I have always been a "crier" and cry when I am angry as well as sad etc.

As you say though, even just speaking to someone about how you feel could help you feel better. I definitely find coming on here and boring others with my crap day / night helps get it off my chest. Have not spoken to HV as never want to call her when I am feeling awful as I will sob down the phone to her, and then an hour later I feel ok and I am glad I haven't called as everything is ok anyway (if that makes sense).

When DS1 was about 5 months old I called the HV and broke down in tears to her. I had had so little sleep for so long and was tearing my hear out (not literally). But just talking to her and getting advice did make me feel a lot better.

DS2 is sobbing. I think he needs to go back to bed.

Does your DH know you feel so low sometimes? Can he try to be around more (maybe he is anyway, I only remember the 2am not in from work post!). Often do see your name on the middle of the night postings as that's when I cruise MN on my phone while feeding DD (at great cost but am justifying but telling myself it keeps me sane!).

omy · 06/07/2008 15:57

Hi Sally - I know what you mean about worrying about going back to work - what will you do with LO? As long as baby is happy where they are you will probably find you cope much better than you thought you would. Do you enjoy your job? If you don't like your job then it is much harder to leave LO. Can you do part time?

omy · 06/07/2008 16:01

Egg - you cruise MN on your phone! Am impressed! I burst into tears quite often too but I think it is just the oxytocin hormones at work! Sleep deprivation doesn't help either.

sallyforth · 06/07/2008 17:21

DH knows but he is around as much as he can - he doesnt play sport every saturday anymore, just 1 in 2. and the rest of the time he is at work. I think he is a workaholic!

Am going to put LO in nursery.

My job is ok but I find it quite stressful. Can't do part time as we need the money to pay mortgage+bills. Unless DH gets some amazing new job after his current contract expires in Nov.

Egg · 06/07/2008 18:08

Sorry forgot to comment on the work thing. I have no idea how i would be feeling if i had that to cope with as well. Am sure your DS will love nursery (mine do), just make sure you give him time to settle in a few weeks before you have to go back so you can be as relaxed as possible going back (obv this might not be possible if they don't have a place in time at the nursery).

Anyway, as others have said, keep posting here about how you are getting on, these lovely ladies always make me smile (esp leesmum, tyaca and gill who seem to have great wit!).
