Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
VictorianSqualor · 11/06/2008 18:00

M2BR.
Alex only put 4 oz on this week as well, it's perfectly normal for them to have slower weeks, especially if they've recently had a growth spurt.
It's only an issue when they start to lose weight or fall off the centiles continuously not gaining much.

VictorianSqualor · 11/06/2008 18:03

Perfectly normal Eva.
Green like pesto, yellow like mustard and orange like tomato soup are all on the normal spectrum of BF baby poo.
Also sicking it up is probably just related to wind.

OP posts:
eva07 · 11/06/2008 18:12

thanks vs, I hoped you would be here. is there anything I can do to reduce the wind? I don't do anything else at the moment except feeding my ever hungry baby and washing clothes with milk stains

eva07 · 11/06/2008 18:14

sorry if this is a stupid question

scorpio1 · 11/06/2008 18:18

do you burp sitting up? or over your shoulder another good one.

eva07 · 11/06/2008 18:21

both. and thanks to the sitting up I guess we have to have some professional carpet cleaning. sometimes she brings up so much too quick to catch everything

VictorianSqualor · 11/06/2008 18:28

Not really much you can do.
Is your let-down quite fast? Does she gag or choke at all? That's a common reason for lots of wind, good way to help then is to express a little, by hand or with a pump, before feeds to slow it down a tad when she latches on, that way she won't gulp and take in as much air.
Possibly break the suction more often and wind during the feed.
Erm, just keep an eye on your latch, any clicking noises, white spots or sore red nipples could be a sign of thrush.
Have a look on kellymom.
Let me get you a link, hang on.

VictorianSqualor · 11/06/2008 18:31

here you go.
Read this, you'll be able to see what fits you and Nora without me asking tons of questions

OP posts:
eva07 · 11/06/2008 18:34

what precisely is a fast let-down? if the milk comes out to fast? at the beginning of the feeding or generally? is it the same as oversupply?

PeachyWontLieToYou · 11/06/2008 18:35

thanks vs

i really think the hva has an issue with me, it washer made me paranoid about his weight (friend asked if he'd gained weight and hva yelled 'no!'- may have a word with hv).

we resisted the urge to buy formula today, we did buy the tommee tippee dummies though, and they seem good. he's going longer between feeds and then feeding more- we'll see how it goes.

DH has been put on a special diet for a stomach ulcer. So i noew have each of us on a separte regime . Getting bloody silly!

Oh and VS i'm not superwoman- bt my friend who has twins last month who are in SCBU and is expressing and having to catch the bus there several times a day as her police officer Dh decided to go away on training as he wasn't needed with the twins in hospital (poor friend DOES need him!) and still amnaed to make her own birth announcements and write thank you letters for gifts..... . SHE deserves an award!

PeachyWontLieToYou · 11/06/2008 18:36

Fast let down is also known as forceful let down, makes the baby gag as it comes out so very fast. had it with ds2 (seems to have resolved now) and he would literally come off the breast spluttering.

(Eva I shall lend you my vax LOL)

eva07 · 11/06/2008 18:39

thanks for the link but it doesn't work

what's a vax, peachy?

PeachyWontLieToYou · 11/06/2008 18:41

It's like a vacuum cleaner with a shampoo cartridge for carpet washing.

very useful!

That, a slow cooker and a chest freezer rank along with cot and pram as baby essentials in my opinion!

eva07 · 11/06/2008 18:45

I was thinking about you and your slow cooker today when I was at Argos (they have one for 9,90) maybe I really need to get one

Eva - A was throwing up a lot and hv recommended that I give her less at each feed. of course, I have to feed more often now, but the vomiting has stopped. I had fast let down too. I was forcing her to drink too much too quickly.

HV noticed that A's head is always on one side and that she may need physio. In a funny way, I hope that's right cos then all this would be fixable. HV said otherwise I just have a fretful colicky baby that doesn't sleep much and that's all there is to it.

She won't take the dummy. So I guess that problem's solved for me.

Thanks for all your advice on bath etc. We don't have a bath, so DH can't fit in the baby bath . Sadly he's never home in time either. I have to admit that I'm really crap about bathing both dds as I just don't seem to have the energy for it...

PortAndLemon · 11/06/2008 19:26

Just heard from my best friend from college whose baby was due in a couple of weeks. She had her DD in an uncomplicated homebirth on Friday, but then on Saturday the baby got rushed to hospital with Group B Strep-related meningitis, into intensive care and onto antibiotics. Huge kudos to the community midwife who came out for an extra unscheduled visit on Sunday to help with getting breastfeeding established (as they'd been having problems on Saturday), and who spotted that something wasn't right.

She's off the incubator now and they think she's unlikely to die, but will be in hospital for several weeks and they won't know for some time whether there will be any long-term effects. And my friend has gone down with a cold today so can't visit (not a problem for her DD but they don't want to risk exposing all the premature babies in the NICU).

Giving DD an extra-big cuddle, and keeping everything crossed that things turn out OK.

EllieG · 11/06/2008 21:05

'Lo all!

I've missed you folks!

Have been too busy to get on 'puter but tonight, Molly has gone to sleep at a sort of normal time so thought I would catch up with you all - how are people? Babies OK?

Bugger. She's woken up.

Anyway - very quickly - hugs to your friend PAL and hello to everyone and guess what - I'm getting married on sat!

Denny185 · 11/06/2008 21:06

what a v stressful time for your friend, hope everything ok

Denny185 · 11/06/2008 21:07

Ahhhh Ellie that would explain where you've been, congratulations have a fab day.

EllieG · 11/06/2008 21:14

Hey denny how are you?

I am loving being a mummy, though last night I did want to chuck her out the window as she would not go to sleep for love nor money, even though she was knackered and was 3am. Generally not that bad though!

KnitterInTheNW · 11/06/2008 21:34

Ellie! There you are!!

Enjoy every minute on Saturday xxxx

PortAndLemon · 11/06/2008 22:00

Sal22 · 11/06/2008 23:13

PAL. Don't even know what to say, that's horrible. Will pray for your friend and her family. Great midwife.
